ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
pooraa gur pooree banat banaa-ee.
God is perfect and He has fashioned a perfect creation.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਰਚਨਾ ਭੀ ਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੨੪॥
naanak bhagat milee vadi-aa-ee. ||4||24||
O’ Nanak, His devotees receive honor here and hereafter. ||4||24||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੪॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬਨਾਵਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ॥
gur kai sabad banaavahu ih man.
By attuning to the Guru’s word, mold your mind ready to meditate on Naam.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਿਰੇ ਘੜੋ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ॥੧॥
gur kaa darsan sanchahu har Dhan. ||1||
By focusing on the Guru’s word, accumulate the wealth of God’s Name. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੋ ॥੧॥
ਊਤਮ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਉ ॥
ootam mat mayrai ridai tooN aa-o.
O’ sublime intellect, come enter into my mind,
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮਤਿ! (ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸ,
ਧਿਆਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhi-aava-o gaava-o gun govindaa at pareetam mohi laagai naa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
so that God’s Name becomes most dear to me and I may meditate upon God and sing His praises ||1||Pause||
ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਵਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥
taripat aghaavan saachai naa-ay.
Attuning to God’s Name, the worldly desires end and the mind becomes satiated.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
athsath majan sant Dhooraa-ay. ||2||
The Guru’s teaching is the ablution at all the sacred shrines. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਏਕ ॥
sabh meh jaan-o kartaa ayk.
I deem the one Creator pervading in all.
ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੩॥
saaDhsangat mil buDh bibayk. ||3||
By joining the companyof saintly persons I have acquired discerning wisdom. |3|
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦਾਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਕਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
daas sagal kaa chhod abhimaan.
Abandoning all ego I consider myself as the servant of all.
ਮੈਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੨੫॥
naanak ka-o gur deeno daan. ||4||25||
The Guru has granted this gift to Nanak. ||4||25||
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਦੀ ਅਜੇਹੀ) ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੫॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਬੁਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
buDh pargaas bha-ee mat pooree.
My mind has been enlightened and my intellect has become perfect,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਰੀ ॥੧॥
taa tay binsee durmat dooree. ||1||
because of that, my evil intellect and distance from God has been destroyed.|1|
ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿੱਥ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਅਲੇ ॥
aisee gurmat paa-ee-alay.
Such are the teachings which I have received from the Guru;
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਬੂਡਤ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
boodat ghor anDh koop meh niksi-o mayray bhaa-ee ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my brother, with the help of that I have escaped from drowning in the pitch dark well of worldly attachments. |1| ll Pause ll
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਹਾ ਅਗਾਹ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ॥
mahaa agaah agan kaa saagar.
this world is like an unfathomable sea of fire of worldly desires,
ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਬੜਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਰਤਨਾਗਰੁ ॥੨॥
gur bohith taaray ratnaagar. ||2||
The Guru, the treasure of divine wisdom, is like a ship which ferries us across this terrible ocean. ||2||
ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਣ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਇਸ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਦੁਤਰ ਅੰਧ ਬਿਖਮ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
dutar anDh bikham ih maa-i-aa.
Maya is like a dark and treacherous ocean which is difficult to cross.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
gur poorai pargat maarag dikhaa-i-aa. ||3||
The Perfect Guru has revealed the way to cross over it. ||3||
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਸਤਾ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕਛੁ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
jaap taap kachh ukat na moree.
I don’t have the merit of worship, penance, or any wisdom.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਕੋਈ ਜਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਤਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੨੬॥
gur naanak sarnaagat toree. ||4||26||
Nanak says, O’ Guru I have come to Your refuge.||4||26||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੨੬॥

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
har ras peevat sad hee raataa.
One who partakes the elixir of God’s Name always remains imbued with Naam,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
aan rasaa khin meh leh jaataa.
while the effect of other worldly relishes wear off in an instant.
ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਰਸਾਂ ਦਾ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ) ਅਸਰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
har ras kay maatay man sadaa anand.
Imbued with the essence of God’s Name, the mind is forever in bliss.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੇ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੧॥
aan rasaa meh vi-aapai chind. ||1||
Anxiety befalls by indulging in the taste of worldly relishes. ||1||
ਪਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਆ ਦਬਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਅਲਮਸਤੁ ਮਤਵਾਰਾ ॥
har ras peevai almasat matvaaraa.
One who partakes the elixir of God’s Name, is totally absorbed and is captivated by it.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਛੇ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan rasaa sabh hochhay ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
To him, all other worldly relishes seem worthless (1-pause).
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸ (ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਤੁੱਛ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
har ras kee keemat kahee na jaa-ay.
The worth of the elixir of God’s Name cannot be described.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਾਟਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
har ras saaDhoo haat samaa-ay.
The relish of God’s Name is always there in the Guru’s holy congregation.
ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੱਟ ਵਿਚ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਕੇਹ ॥
laakh karoree milai na kayh.
The elixir of God’s Name cannot be obtained by anyone even for vast riches.
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਿੱਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਦੇਹਿ ॥੨॥
jisahi paraapat tis hee deh. ||2||
God bestows this gift only to the one, who is so pre-ordained. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਖਿ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥
naanak chaakh bha-ay bismaad.
O’ Nanak, he who has tasted this elixir has become wonder-struck.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ( ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ) ਚੱਖ ਕੇ (ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਦ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ) ਹੈਰਾਨ ਪਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
naanak gur tay aa-i-aa saad.
O’ Nanak, it is only through the Guru that one is able to realize its taste.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕਤ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
eet oot kat chhod na jaa-ay.
Here and hereafter, he does not leave the elixir of Naam.
ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੀਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੩॥੨੭॥
naanak geeDhaa har ras maahi. ||3||27||
O’ Nanak, he remains charmed with the relish of God’s Name. ||3||27||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨੭॥

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
kaam kroDh lobh moh mitaavai chhutkai durmat apunee Dhaaree.
O’ mortal, the Guru’s advice shall eradicate your lust, anger, greed, and worldly attachment, and your self-acquired evil intellect shall finish.
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ, ਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਇਗੀ।
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥
ho-ay nimaanee sayv kamaaveh taa pareetam hoveh man pi-aaree. ||1||
Becoming humble, if you would meditate on God’s Name, then you would become pleasing to your beloved-God. ||1|
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇਂਗੀ, ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗੇਂਗੀ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥
sun sundar saaDhoo bachan uDhaaree.
Listen to the Guru’s word and save yourself from drowning in the world ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ।
ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਮਿਟੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖਮਨਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dookh bhookh mitai tayro sahsaa sukh paavahi tooN sukhman naaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ peace desiring mortal, your sorrow, desire for Maya and doubt shall vanish, and you shall enjoy peace. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ,(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਇਗੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣੇਂਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਚਰਣ ਪਖਾਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਿਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
charan pakhaar kara-o gur sayvaa aatam suDh bikh ti-aas nivaaree.
Becoming most humble and following the Guru’s teachings, your soul would become pure and your desires for Maya would be quenched.
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਿਆ, ਤੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਇਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ।
ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਿ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਤਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੀ ॥੨॥
daasan kee ho-ay daas daasree taa paavahi sobhaa har du-aaree. ||2||
If you become a humble servant of the devotees of God you would obtain honor in God’s court.||2||
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਏਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ-ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੇਂਗੀ ॥੨॥
ਇਹੀ ਅਚਾਰ ਇਹੀ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥
ihee achaar ihee bi-uhaaraa aagi-aa maan bhagat ho-ay tumHaaree.
This should be your conduct and lifestyle, by obeying the command of God you will be doing the true devotional worship.
ਇਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ ਇਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ।
ਜੋ ਇਹੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੩॥੨੮॥
jo ih mantar kamaavai naanak so bha-ojal paar utaaree. ||3||28||
O’ Nanak, one who practices this Mantra, swims across the terrifying world-ocean of vices. ||3||28||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨੮॥
