ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੩ ॥

Sri raag, by the first Guru: third Beat.
ਅਮਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਬੀਜੁ ਸਬਦੋ ਕਰਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਆਬ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਹਿ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
amal kar Dhartee beej sabdo kar sach kee aab nit deh paanee.
Make good deeds the soil, and let the (Guru’s advice through the) Shabad be the seed; and continually irrigate it with the water of Truth.
ਨੇਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਖੇਤ ਬਣਾ ਬੀ ਤੂੰ ਬਣਾ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸਿੰਜ।
ਹੋਇ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਈਮਾਨੁ ਜੰਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਭਿਸਤੁ ਦੋਜਕੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਏਵ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
ho-ay kirsaan eemaan jammaa-ay lai bhisat dojak moorhay ayv jaanee. ||1||
O’ fool, be a true spiritual farmer, grow (strengthen) your faith. Thus you will will you know the truth about heaven (blissful life) and hell (life full of miseries).
ਕਿਸਾਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਉੱਦਮੀ) ਬਣ, ਤੇਰੀ ਇਸ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਧਾ (ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ) ਉੱਗੇਗੀ। ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝ ਆਵੇਗੀ ਕਿ ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦੋਜ਼ਖ਼ ਕੀ ਹੈ l
ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣ ਸਹਿ ਗਲੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
mat jaan seh galee paa-i-aa.
Don’t you ever think that you can attain to God by your mere words.
(ਹੇ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ!) ਇਹ ਨ ਸਮਝੀਂ ਕਿ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਰੱਬ) ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਲ ਕੈ ਮਾਣੈ ਰੂਪ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਇਤੁ ਬਿਧੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maal kai maanai roop kee sobhaa it biDhee janam gavaa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You have wasted this life in the pride of wealth and the splendor of beauty.
ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਹਮਕ-ਦਮਕ ਵਿੱਚ, ਇਸ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਐਬ ਤਨਿ ਚਿਕੜੋ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੀਡਕੋ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
aib tan chikrho ih man meedko kamal kee saar nahee mool paa-ee.
This body is filled with puddle of sins in which our mind lives like a frog who cannot appreciate the presence of the lotus flower in the same pool. Similarly, our mind cannot appreciate God in our body because it is too engrossed in vices.
ਸਰੀਰਦੇਅੰਦਰਵਿਕਾਰਾਂਦਾਚਿੱਕੜਹੈ, ਤੇਇਹਮਨ (ਉਸਚਿੱਕੜਵਿਚ) ਡੱਡੂ (ਬਣਕੇਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, (ਚਿੱਕੜਵਿਚਉੱਗੇਹੋਏ) ਕੌਲਫੁੱਲਦੀਕਦਰ (ਇਸਡੱਡੂ-ਮਨ) ਨੂੰਨਹੀਂਪੈਸਕਦੀ (ਹਿਰਦੇਵਿਚਵੱਸਦੇ
ਭਉਰੁ ਉਸਤਾਦੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਉ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਾ ਨਹ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥
bha-ur ustaad nit bhaakhi-aa bolay ki-o boojhai jaa nah bujhaa-ee. ||2||
Like frog is not influenced by the bumblebee visiting the lotus flower. Similarly our mind doesn’t understand the Guru’s teachings, unless God allow it to.
ਭੌਰਾ ਆ ਕੇ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਉਤੇ ਗੁੰਜਾਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਡੱਡੂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ l ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦਾ।
ਆਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਪਉਣ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
aakhan sunnaa pa-un kee banee ih man rataa maa-i-aa.
Because our mind is distracted by worldly desires, all the saintly teachings have no effect on our mind (just like the sound of the wind passing by).
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਧਰਮ ਵਾਰਤਾ ਹਵਾ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਹੈ,
ਖਸਮ ਕੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਦਿਲਹਿ ਪਸਿੰਦੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੩॥
khasam kee nadar dilahi pasinday jinee kar ayk Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||3||
The Grace of the Master is bestowed upon those who are pleasing to his heart as they remember the One and Only One God with love and devotion.
ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ ॥
ਤੀਹ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਪੰਜ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਾਉ ਸੈਤਾਨੁ ਮਤੁ ਕਟਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
teeh kar rakhay panj kar saathee naa-o saitaan mat kat jaa-ee.
You may observe the thirty fasts, and say the five prayers each day, but your evil thoughts can neutralize these saintly deeds .
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰੀਹ (ਰੋਜ਼ੇ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜ (ਨਮਾਜ਼ਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਖ਼ਬਰਦਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾ ਮਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਹੈ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਰਾਹਿ ਪੈ ਚਲਣਾ ਮਾਲੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਿਤ ਕੂ ਸੰਜਿਆਹੀ ੪॥੨੭॥
naanak aakhai raahi pai chalnaa maal Dhan kit koo sanji-aahee. ||4||27||
Says Nanak, since you are walking towards path of Death, so why do you only concentrate on collecting wealth and property?
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ) ਰਸਤੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਤੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ?

Sri Raag, by the first Guru: fourth Beat
ਸੋਈ ਮਉਲਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥
so-ee ma-ulaa jin jag ma-oli-aa hari-aa kee-aa sansaaro.
It is God Himself who is the real Moula (Master), who created and nurtured the universe.
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ-ਭਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਬ ਖਾਕੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਰਹਾਈ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
aab khaak jin banDh rahaa-ee Dhan sirjanhaaro. ||1||
It is He, who has bound land and sea together under His cosmic law, and kept them in harmony. Amazing is that Creator!
ਉਹ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਰਣਾ ਮੁਲਾ ਮਰਣਾ ॥
marnaa mulaa marnaa.
Remember O’Mullah, that one day death will come.
ਹੇ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ! ਮੌਤ (ਦਾ ਡਰ) ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ।
ਭੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਹੁ ਡਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhee kartaarahu darnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
So live your life under the Creator’s revered fear.
ਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਾਜਣ-ਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹੁ।
ਤਾ ਤੂ ਮੁਲਾ ਤਾ ਤੂ ਕਾਜੀ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਖੁਦਾਈ ॥
taa too mulaa taa too kaajee jaaneh naam khudaa-ee.
You are a Mullah, and you are a Qazi, only when you are drawn towards to the love of God.
ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ, ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਪੜਿਆ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਭਰੀਐ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
jay bahutayraa parhi-aa hoveh ko rahai na bharee-ai paa-ee. ||2||
You may be very educated, but you cannot escape Death at the end of your life.
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜਦ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਪੜੋਪੀ ਲਬਾਲਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਏਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਠਹਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ
ਸੋਈ ਕਾਜੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਤਜਿਆ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੀਆ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥
so-ee kaajee jin aap taji-aa ik naam kee-aa aaDhaaro.
He alone is a Qazi, who renounces selfishness and conceit, and makes God’s Name his only support in life.
ਉਹੀ ਮੁਨੱਖ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੩॥
hai bhee hosee jaa-ay na jaasee sachaa sirjanhaaro. ||3||
The Creator is present now, would always be there. He is neither born, nor dies.
ਸੱਚਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈ, ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਭੀ, ਉਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
ਪੰਜ ਵਖਤ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਹਿ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਣਾ ॥
panj vakhat nivaaj gujaareh parheh katayb kuraanaa.
You may recite your Namaz five times each day and read the Koran.
ਤੂੰ ਪੰਜੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਮਜ਼ਹਬੀ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਭੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਗੋਰ ਸਦੇਈ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੀਣਾ ਖਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੨੮॥
naanak aakhai gor saday-ee rahi-o peenaa khaanaa. ||4||28||
Nanak says, your grave (Death) is calling you, and all your worldly pleasures will soon come to an end.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਬਰ ਸਦੱਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੇਰਾ ਖਾਦਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਮੁਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਸੁਆਨੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
ayk su-aan du-ay su-aanee naal.
one male dog (greed) and two female dogs (hunger and desire) always accompany me,
ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਕੁੱਤਾ (ਲੋਭ) ਹੈ, ਦੋ ਕੁੱਤੀਆਂ (ਆਸਾ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ) ਹਨ।
ਭਲਕੇ ਭਉਕਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਬਇਆਲਿ ॥
bhalkay bha-ukahi sadaa ba-i-aal.
And these three vices start to influence me from early in the morning.
ਜੋ ਨਿੱਤ ਸਵੇਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਭੌਂਕਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਕੂੜੁ ਛੁਰਾ ਮੁਠਾ ਮੁਰਦਾਰੁ ॥
koorh chhuraa muthaa murdaar.
In my hand is the knife of falsehood with which I have amassed worldly possessions (compared to dead bodies).
(ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ) ਝੂਠ ਛੁਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਹੱਕ) ਮੁਰਦਾਰ (ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ)
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
Dhaanak roop rahaa kartaar. ||1||
O my Creator! now I keep living like a low-caste nomad huntsman,
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਂਹਸੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਪੰਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
mai pat kee pand na karnee kee kaar.
I have not heeded Your good advice, nor have I done good deeds.
ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਨਸੀਹਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਬਿਗੜੈ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥
ha-o bigrhai roop rahaa bikraal.
Therefore , I appear deformed and horribly disfigured.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਵਿਗੜੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
tayraa ayk naam taaray sansaar.
Only meditating on Your Name with loving devotion can liberate me and others like me from this world.
ਕੇਵਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈ ਏਹਾ ਆਸ ਏਹੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mai ayhaa aas ayho aaDhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You are my only hope and my only support.
ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ।
ਮੁਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਖਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
mukh nindaa aakhaa din raat.
With my mouth I speak slander, day and night.
ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨੇ ਰਾਤ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹੀ ਨੀਚ ਸਨਾਤਿ ॥
par ghar johee neech sanaat.
I spy on the houses of others; I am such a shameful person.
ਮੈਂ ਨੀਚ ਤੇ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਅਸਲੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰਾਇਆ ਘਰ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਤਨਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥
kaam kroDh tan vaseh chandaal.
In my body, reside the demons of lust and anger.
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਚੰਡਾਲ ਵੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
Dhaanak roop rahaa kartaar. ||2||
O my Creator! now I keep living like a low-caste nomad huntsman.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਂਹਸੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਫਾਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਲੂਕੀ ਵੇਸੁ ॥
faahee surat malookee vays.
I make plans to trap others, although I appear innocent.
ਦੇਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਰੀਫ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਨੀਅਤ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਾਹੁਣ ਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਠਗਵਾੜਾ ਠਗੀ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
ha-o thagvaarhaa thagee days.
I am a deceiver and I can even cheat my own country.
ਮੈਂ ਠੱਗ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਲਕ (ਦੁਨੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਠੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
kharaa si-aanaa bahutaa bhaar.
I consider myself very clever but I am very sinful.
ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਚਾਲਾਕ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਬੋਝ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੩॥
Dhaanak roop rahaa kartaar. ||3||
O my Creator! now I keep living like a low-caste nomad huntsman.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਂਹਸੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਾਂ
ਮੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰੁ ॥
mai keetaa na jaataa haraamkhor.
O God, I am an ungrateful wretch, who has not appreciated what You have done for me.I take what belongs to others.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣੀ, ਮੈਂ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਹੱਕ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਾ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਚੋਰੁ ॥
ha-o ki-aa muhu daysaa dusat chor.
How will I face You, God ( when I leave this world). I am an evil thief.
ਮੈਂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਚੋਰ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਮੂੰਹ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ?
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
naanak neech kahai beechaar.
This is what lowly Nanak says after deep reflection.
ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ,

ਏਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੇਤੇ ਹੈ ਜੀਅ ॥
aykaa surat jaytay hai jee-a.
There is one source of the consciousness amongst all created beings.
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਹਨ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੂਝ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕੀਅ ॥
surat vihoonaa ko-ay na kee-a.
None have been created without this consciousness.
ਅੰਤ੍ਰੀਵੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
