ਚਾਰੇ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਮਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
chaaray agan nivaar mar gurmukh har jal paa-ay.
By following the Guru’s teachings, puts out all the four fires within your mind by pouring the water of God’s Name and remain detached from Maya.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧੁਖਦੀਆਂ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਅੱਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇ (ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੋਂ) ਮਰ ਜਾ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
antar kamal pargaasi-aa amrit bhari-aa aghaa-ay.
Then you would feel so delighted, as if your heart has blossomed forth like a lotus, and you will feels satiated and fulfilled.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਿਰਦਾ- ਕੌਲ ਖਿੜ ਪਏਗਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਭਰ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੦॥
naanak satgur meet kar sach paavahi dargeh jaa-ay. ||4||20||
Therefore, O’ Nanak make Guru your friend, so that upon reaching God’s court, you may obtain union with the eternal God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾ, ਯਕੀਨੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ॥

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਹੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਿ ॥
har har japahu pi-aari-aa gurmat lay har bol.
O’ dear, follow the instructions of the Guru, recite and remember God with loving devotion.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੋ।
ਮਨੁ ਸਚ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਈਐ ਤੁਲੀਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੋਲਿ ॥
man sach kasvatee laa-ee-ai tulee-ai poorai tol.
So that when your mind is tested on the touchstone of Truth, it comes up to its full expectation.(sincerely remembering Naam and reflecting on Guru’s word)
ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਦੀ ਘਸ-ਵੱਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਖ, ਤੇ ਦੇਖ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਵਜਨ ਦੀ ਉਤਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਲਿ ਅਮੋਲਿ ॥੧॥
keemat kinai na paa-ee-ai rid maanak mol amol. ||1||
That mind becomes like a priceless jewel, its worth cannot be estimated.
ਤਦੋਂ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਮਾਣਕ ਮੁੱਲੋਂ ਅਮੁੱਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
bhaa-ee ray har heeraa gur maahi.
O’ brother, the invaluable Naam resides in Guru’s teaching.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satsangat satgur paa-ee-ai ahinis sabad salaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
We meet True Guru in the Holy congregation. Then we realize God by praising Him day and night, through the Guru’s word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ l
ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥
sach vakhar Dhan raas lai paa-ee-ai gur pargaas.
It is with the capital of Truth that we buy the wealth of Naam. But we understand this through the enlightenment obtained from the Guru.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਧਨ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ। ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਚਾਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਜਲਿ ਪਾਇਐ ਤਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਿ ॥
ji-o agan marai jal paa-i-ai ti-o tarisnaa daasan daas.
Just as the fire is extinguished by pouring water, similarly the fire of desire is extinguished by serving the servant of God (following the teachings of the Guru).
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਿਆਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਇਉ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਤਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
jam jandaar na lag-ee i-o bha-ojal tarai taraas. ||2||
The Messenger of Death will not touch you; in this way, you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean of vices, carrying others across with you.
ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੁਹੇਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਲਵੇਗਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚ ਭਾਇ ॥
gurmukh koorh na bhaav-ee sach ratay sach bhaa-ay.
The Guru’s followers do not like falsehood. They are imbued with Truth; they love only Truth.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਾਕਤ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜੀ ਪਾਂਇ ॥
saakat sach na bhaav-ee koorhai koorhee paaN-ay.
The worshippers of power do not like the truth. they stand on foundations of falsehood.
ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ। ਕੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਭੀ ਝੂਠੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿਐ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
sach ratay gur mayli-ai sachay sach samaa-ay. ||3||
Only those who are imbued with Truth, are able to meet the true Guru, who unites them with the eternal God.
ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਹੀਰੁ ॥
man meh maanak laal naam ratan padaarath heer.
Naam is like a precious jewel, that resides within our mind.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜੋ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਮਾਣਕ ਹੈ, ਲਾਲ ਹੈ, ਰਤਨ ਹੈ, ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥
sach vakhar Dhan naam hai ghat ghat gahir gambheer.
The Naam is the true merchandise which lies deep in each and every heart.
ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਹੈ ਧਨ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੪॥੨੧॥
naanak gurmukh paa-ee-ai da-i-aa karay har heer. ||4||21||
O’ Nanak, this precious Naam is realized through the Guru’s teachings, when God showers His Grace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਭਰਮੇ ਭਾਹਿ ਨ ਵਿਝਵੈ ਜੇ ਭਵੈ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
bharmay bhaahi na vijhvai jay bhavai disantar days.
The fire of doubt is not extinguished, even by wandering through all the holy places in the world.
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਪਿਆ ਕੱਟੇ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਹਿਮ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁਝਦੀ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥
antar mail na utrai Dharig jeevan Dharig vays.
Cursed is that life, and cursed is that garb of renunciation if inner filth of ego is not washed off.
ਭ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ ਮਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਧਾਰਮਕ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਪਲੀਤੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ।
ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥੧॥
hor kitai bhagat na hova-ee bin satgur kay updays. ||1||
There is no other way to perform devotional worship, except through the Teachings of the True Guru.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਰਸਤਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥
man ray gurmukh agan nivaar.
O mind, follow Guru’s teachings and extinguish the fire of desires from within.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਝਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kaa kahi-aa man vasai ha-umai tarisnaa maar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If the Guru’s teachings are enshrined in the mind, then the ego and the fire of worldly desire would be stilled.
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਨੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
man maanak nirmol hai raam naam pat paa-ay.
By remembering Naam with loving devotion, the mind becomes like an invaluable it obtains honor jewel and obtains honor everywhere.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਵਡ-ਮੁੱਲਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
mil satsangat har paa-ee-ai gurmukh har liv laa-ay.
By joining the true congregation and thus realizing God, a Guru’s follower always remains absorbed in love for God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
aap ga-i-aa sukh paa-i-aa mil sallai salal samaa-ay. ||2||
When one’s egoism is gone one obtains peace, and becomes one with God as if a wave has merged with another wave.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਉਂ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੁ ਅਉਗੁਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
jin har har naam na chayti-o so a-ogun aavai jaa-ay.
They who do not contemplate Naam will continue in the cycle of birth and death because of their vices.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੁ ਭਉਜਲਿ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥
jis satgur purakh na bhayti-o so bha-ojal pachai pachaa-ay.
The person who has not met with the Guru continues suffering and is consumed in the dreadful worldly-ocean of vices.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਹੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਇਉ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
ih maanak jee-o nirmol hai i-o ka-udee badlai jaa-ay. ||3||
This human soul is like a priceless jewel, but without remembering God, it is being wasted, as if it is being sold for a mere penny.
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਡ-ਮੁੱਲਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਕਉਡੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਜ਼ਾਇਆ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਜਿੰਨਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਰਸਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਜਾਣ ॥
jinna satgur ras milai say pooray purakh sujaan.
They who are blessed with the pleasure of the company of the Guru are perfectly enlightened and sagacious person.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪੂਰੇ (ਭਾਂਡੇ) ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਲੰਘੀਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
gur mil bha-ojal langhee-ai dargeh pat parvaan.
Meeting with the Guru, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean of vices. In the Court of God, they are honored and approved.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੨੨॥
naanak tay mukh ujlay Dhun upjai sabad neesaan. ||4||22||
O’ Nanak, the faces of those persons shine with honor in whose mind arises and keep playing the tune (drum) of Divine Word.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਉੱਜਲ-ਮੁੱਖ (ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ) ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਵਾਜਾ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਹੋ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
vanaj karahu vanjaariho vakhar layho samaal.
O’ merchants, (humans) deal in the true merchandise (Naam)
ਹੇ (ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਆਏ ਜੀਵੋ! (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰੋ, ਨਾਮ-ਸੌਦਾ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਵੋ।
ਤੈਸੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਵਿਸਾਹੀਐ ਜੈਸੀ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
taisee vasat visaahee-ai jaisee nibhai naal
Buy those objects (good deeds) which will go along with you in the next world.
ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਰੀਦਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੇ।
ਅਗੈ ਸਾਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਲੈਸੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
agai saahu sujaan hai laisee vasat samaal. ||1||
The Banker (God) in the next world is all wise. he will thoroughly test the commodity (your deeds) you wish to sell Him and make sure that it is genuine.
ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸਾਡੇ ਖ਼ਰੀਦੇ ਹੋਏ) ਸੌਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰੇਗਾ
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray raam kahhu chit laa-ay.
O’ brothers, utter God’s Name with sincere and focused mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਚਿੱਤ ਲਾ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੈ ਚਲਹੁ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jas vakhar lai chalhu saho daykhai patee-aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Take the capital of God’s praise from this world. so that when the Master (God) sees it He is truly pleased.
(ਇਥੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੋ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵੇਖੇਗਾ
