ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸੰਕ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥
antar kee gat jaanee-ai gur milee-ai sank utaar.
By surrendering to the Guru with full devotion and without skepticism, we can understand the state of our innerself.
ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੰਕਾ ਉਤਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮੁਇਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
mu-i-aa jit ghar jaa-ee-ai tit jeevdi-aa mar maar.
The place or state which we want to reach after death, we should try to reach that state while living, by conquering our mind.
ਜਿਸ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਤੂੰ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਪੁਜਣਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਮੰਦ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਲੀਆਮੇਟ ਕਰ।
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
anhad sabad suhaavanay paa-ee-ai gur veechaar. ||2||
We can enjoy the pleasing unstruck divine music through the teachings of the Guru.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਪਰਬੀਨ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
anhad banee paa-ee-ai tah ha-umai ho-ay binaas.
When we are blessed with this state of enjoying the divine word (Gurbani), then the inner ego is totally destroyed.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਲਾਪਿਆਂ ਰਾਗ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਤਾਸੁ ॥
satgur sayvay aapnaa ha-o sad kurbaanai taas.
I dedicate my life for those who truly follow the teachings of their Guru.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਖੜਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਨਾਈਐ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
kharh dargeh painaa-ee-ai mukh har naam nivaas. ||3||
They always recite the praises of God and are honored in God’s court.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਕਾ ਮੇਲੁ ॥
jah daykhaa tah rav rahay siv saktee kaa mayl
Wherever I see I find humans indulging in Maya (worldly illusions)
ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਧਰ ਹੀ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਬੰਧੀ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਿ ਸੋ ਖੇਲੁ ॥
tarihu gun banDhee dayhuree jo aa-i-aa jag so khayl.
The three traits of Maya hold the human body in bondage; whoever comes into the world is subject to their play.
ਸਰੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਉਹ ਇਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਜੋਗੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਨ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੪॥
vijogee dukh vichhurhay manmukh laheh na mayl. ||4||
The self-willed (Manmukh) do not attain union with God, they remain alienated from Him and remain in misery.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ, ਉਹ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚ ਭੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
man bairaagee ghar vasai sach bhai raataa ho-ay.
When the mind imbued with loving fear of God becomes detached from worldly affairs and comes to dwell within (stops wandering),
ਵੈਰਾਗਵਾਨ ਮਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਿਆਨ ਮਹਾਰਸੁ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
gi-aan mahaaras bhogvai baahurh bhookh na ho-ay.
then it enjoys the essence of supreme spiritual wisdom; it shall never feel hunger for worldly things again.
ਉਹ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਮਹਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲੁ ਭੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੮॥
naanak ih man maar mil bhee fir dukh na ho-ay. ||5||18||
O’ Nanak, subdue your ego and unite with God, so that you shall never suffer in pain (of separation from God) anymore.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ l

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਏਹੁ ਮਨੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਲੋਭੀਆ ਲੋਭੇ ਲਗਾ ਲੋੁਭਾਨੁ ॥
ayhu mano moorakh lobhee-aa lobhay lagaa lobhaan.
O’ my foolish and greedy mind, you are attached and engrossed in greed.
ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਕਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
sabad na bheejai saaktaa durmat aavan jaan.
The faithless (sakat) is not swayed by the divine word, and his evil mind suffers in the cycle of birth and death.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰੁਚੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦੀ, ਇਸ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧੂ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
saaDhoo satgur jay milai taa paa-ee-ai gunee niDhaan. ||1||
But if he meets the True Guru, then he realizes God, the treasure of virtues.
ਜੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
man ray ha-umai chhod gumaan.
O my mind, renounce your egotistical pride.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਮੈਂ (ਸਿਆਣਾ) ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਸਿਆਣਾ) ਹਾਂ-ਇਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ,
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਤੂ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har gur sarvar sayv too paavahi dargeh maan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Follow the teachings of the Guru, who is the image of God, the pool of immortality, so that you may receive honor in God’s court.
ਤੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ-ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਪਾਵੇ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
raam naam jap dinas raat gurmukh har Dhan jaan.
O’ my mind, remember God day and night with love and devotion, and through Guru’s grace realize the spiritual value of the wealth of Naam.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ।
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sabh sukh har ras bhognay sant sabhaa mil gi-aan.
In the holy company, acquire spiritual wisdom and you will enjoy all comforts and the divine pleasures.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ, ਸਾਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਨਿਤਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
nit ahinis har parabh sayvi-aa satgur dee-aa naam. ||2||
He, whom the true Guru has blessed with the gift of Naam, remembers God with love and devotion day and night.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ
ਕੂਕਰ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਨੁ ॥
kookar koorh kamaa-ee-ai gur nindaa pachai pachaan.
The one who practices falsehood is like a dog. Such a person even slanders the Guru and suffers utter disgrace.
ਜੋ ਝੁਠ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਦਖੋਈ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਖੁਲਹਾਨੁ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa dukh ghano jam maar karai khulhaan.
Doubts lead him astray, he suffers in great agony and the demon of death deals with him mercilessly .
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਮਰਾਜ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁੱਝੀ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਭੋਹ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੁਭਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
manmukh sukh na paa-ee-ai gurmukh sukh subhaan. ||3||
In this way, the self-conceited (Manmukh) find no peace, while the Guru’s followers are always wondrously joyful.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਐਥੈ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਿਟਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
aithai DhanDh pitaa-ee-ai sach likhat parvaan.
In this world, people are engrossed in false pursuits, but in the world hereafter, only the account of your true actions is accepted.
ਏਥੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਕੂੜੇ ਵਿਹਾਰਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਲਤਾਨ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਥੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
har sajan gur sayvdaa gur karnee parDhaan.
Therefore, serve the Guru (follow the Guru’s teachings), the intimate friend of God. The deeds done under the Guru’s command are supreme.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ) ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਹ ਕਾਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਨੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਚੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੧੯॥
naanak naam na veesrai karam sachai neesaan. ||4||19||
O’ Nanak, by God’s Grace, the one who receives His stamp of approval, he never forgets God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਲੇਖ ਉੱਘੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ l

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਵਡਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ik til pi-aaraa veesrai rog vadaa man maahi.
Forgetting the Beloved God, even for a moment, they feel as if their mind is suffering from some serious malady.
ਜੋ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ (ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਕਿਉ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ki-o dargeh pat paa-ee-ai jaa har na vasai man maahi.
How can honor be attained in His Court, if God does not dwell in the mind?
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਰਾਂ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਨਾਂ ਕਰੇ?
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
gur mili-ai sukh paa-ee-ai agan marai gun maahi. ||1||
Therefore Meeting with the Guru, peace is found. The fire of worldly desires is extinguished by singing His Glorious Praises.
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, (ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
man ray ahinis har gun saar.
O mind, enshrine the Praises of God, day and night.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਜਿਨ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin khin pal naam na veesrai tay jan virlay sansaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Very rare are those in this world who do not forsake the Naam even for a moment.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ (ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਖਿਨ ਪਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ l
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥
jotee jot milaa-ee-ai surtee surat sanjog.
If we merge our soul with the Supreme Soul, and our mind with the Higher mind,
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਰਲਾ ਦੇਈਏ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ,
ਹਿੰਸਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਤੁ ਗਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
hinsaa ha-umai gat ga-ay naahee sahsaa sog.
then one’s cruel and violent instincts and egotism depart, and skepticism and sorrow are taken away.
ਤਾਂ ਕਠੋਰਤਾ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਸਹਿਮ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
gurmukh jis har man vasai tis maylay gur sanjog. ||2||
One who follows the Guru’s teaching and enshrines God in his mind, Guru blesses him the chance of union with God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਟਿਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਅਵਸਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਜੇ ਕਰੀ ਭੋਗੇ ਭੋਗਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
kaa-i-aa kaaman jay karee bhogay bhoganhaar.
If I surrender myself to God, I will experiences the similar bliss of union with God; like the young bride feels when she surrenders herself to her Master-God.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਾਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਣਾਵਾਂ, ਕਾਇਆਂ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਪਰਤਾਵਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਕੀਜਈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
tis si-o nayhu na keej-ee jo deesai chalanhaar.
Such soul does not fall in love with the body which is definitely transient,
ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਤਨਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਵਹਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਜ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
gurmukh raveh sohaaganee so parabh sayj bhataar. ||3||
but is guided by the Guru, and enjoy the pleasure of union with God, Who dwells in her heart.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਸੇਜ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ l
