ga-orhee mehlaa 5.
Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਪੀਰ ॥
jaa ka-o bisrai raam naam taahoo ka-o peer.
One who forgets God’s Name is afflicted with grief.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਆ ਘੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saaDhsangat mil har raveh say gunee gaheer. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Those who join the saintly congregation and meditate on God become virtuous. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਬੁਧਿ ॥
jaa ka-o gurmukh ridai buDh.
The Guru’s follower who develops the intellect to meditate,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ॥੧॥
taa kai kar tal nav niDh siDh. ||1||
controls all kinds of treasures and miraculous powers. ||1||.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਲੀਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ (ਆ ਟਿਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥
ਜੋ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਨੀ ॥
jo jaaneh har parabh Dhanee.
Those who realize God, the master of all the treasures,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਭ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਮਾਲਕ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਕਮੀ ॥੨॥
kichh naahee taa kai kamee. ||2||
do not lack anything. ||2 ll
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਥੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
karnaihaar pachhaani-aa.
One who realizes the Creator,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ,
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sarab sookh rang maani-aa. ||3||
enjoys the pleasure of peace and bliss. ||3||.
ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਵਸੈ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਸੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੪੭॥
har Dhan jaa kai garihi vasai. kaho nanak tin sang dukh nasai. ||4||9||147||
“All sorrow flees away in the company of those, in whose heart dwells the precious Name of God”, says Nanak ||4||9||147||.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੪੭॥

Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:
ਗਰਬੁ ਬਡੋ ਮੂਲੁ ਇਤਨੋ ॥
garab bado mool itno.
You take great pride in yourself but in reality you are very insignificant.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਿਤ ਥੋੜਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਰਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਗਹੁ ਕਿਤਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rahan nahee gahu kitno. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You are not going to remain in this world forever no matter how much you hold onto it. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਠਹਿਰਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜ ਲੈ। ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬੇਬਰਜਤ ਬੇਦ ਸੰਤਨਾ ਉਆਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਰੇ ਹਿਤਨੋ ॥
baybarjat bayd santnaa u-aahoo si-o ray hitno.
You love those very things which the holy books and saints forbid.
ਜਿਸ ਵਲੋਂ ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਵਰਜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਵਰਜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਾਰ ਜੂਆਰ ਜੂਆ ਬਿਧੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਸਿ ਲੈ ਜਿਤਨੋ ॥੧॥
haar joo-aar joo-aa biDhay indree vas lai jitno. ||1||
Under the control of sensory pleasures you are losing the game of life like a gambler. ||1||.
ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ (ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ) ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਨ ਭਰਨ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਾ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਿਤਨੋ ॥
haran bharan sampoornaa charan kamal rang ritno.
You are devoid of the love of God who is All-powerful to destroy and sustain all the creatures.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਣ) ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੈ ਦਿਤਨੋ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੧੪੮॥
naanak uDhray saaDhsang kirpaa niDh mai ditno. ||2||10||148||
O’ Nanak, the treasure of mercy has blessed me the company of the holy and with their help I have crossed the world-ocean of vices. ||2||10||148||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ॥੨॥੧੦॥੧੪੮॥

Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:
ਮੋਹਿ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੋ ॥
mohi daasro thaakur ko.
I am but a humble devotee of the Master.
ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ,
ਧਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਖਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhaan parabh kaa khaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I consume whatever God gives me. ||1||Pause||.
ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਅੰਨ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਐਸੋ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
aiso hai ray khasam hamara.
My Master-God is such,
ਮੇਰਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
khin meh saaj savaaranhaaraa. ||1||
that He creates and embellishes his creation in an instant. ||1||
ਕਿ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਾਮੁ ਕਰੀ ਜੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਵਾ ॥
kaam karee jay thaakur bhaavaa.
I wish I do only those deeds by which I become pleasing to God,
ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਾਂ।
ਗੀਤ ਚਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਾ ॥੨॥
geet charit parabh kay gun gaavaa. ||2||
and sing the songs of His virtues and wondrous plays. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਜੱਸ ਅਤੇ ਅਦਭੁਤ ਕਉਤਕਾ ਦੇ ਗਾਉਣ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ॥੨॥
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਵਜੀਰਾ ॥
saran pari-o thaakur vajeeraa.
I have come in the refuge of God’s saints;
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਠਾਕੁਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ,
ਤਿਨਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੩॥
tinaa daykh mayraa man Dheeraa. ||3||
beholding them my mind is comforted and consoled. ||3||.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਬਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਏਕ ਟੇਕ ਏਕੋ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥
ayk tayk ayko aaDhaaraa.
“God alone is my strength and mainstay,
ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਓਟ ਤੇ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਕਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੪੯॥
jan naanak har kee laagaa kaaraa. ||4||11||149||
and I am engaged in the devotional worship of God”, says Nanak ||4||11||149||
ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੪੯॥

ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਰੈ ॥
hai ko-ee aisaa ha-umai torai.
Is there any one out there who will shatter my ego,
ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ , ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ,
ਇਸੁ ਮੀਠੀ ਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
is meethee tay ih man horai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and turn my mind away from this seemingly sweet Maya? ||1||Pause||.
ਅਤੇ ਜੋ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਿੱਠੀ (ਲੱਗਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਸਕੇ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਾਨੁਖੁ ਭਇਆ ਜੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੋ ਲੋਰੈ ॥
agi-aanee maanukh bha-i-aa jo naahee so lorai.
One who is spiritually ignorant seeks what does not accompany in the end.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਗਵਾ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜੇਹੜੀ (ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਲਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧਾਰੀ ਕਾਰੀਆ ਕਵਨ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੋਰੈ ॥੧॥
rain anDhaaree kaaree-aa kavan jugat jit bhorai. ||1||
The mind is stuck in the pitch darkness of ignorance. Is there any way this mind can be spiritually enlightened? ||1||.
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਕਾਲੀ ਹਨੇਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਏ? ॥੧॥
ਭ੍ਰਮਤੋ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੋ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਧੀ ਕਰਿ ਟੋਰੈ ॥
bharmato bharmato haari-aa anik biDhee kar torai.
Wandering around I got tired of looking for one who could sway my mind away from Maya.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੋਰੈ ॥੨॥੧੨॥੧੫੦॥
kaho naanak kirpaa bha-ee saaDhsangat niDh morai. ||2||12||150||
Nanak says, “God has bestowed mercy and now the company of saints is my treasure of all virtues”. ||2||12||150||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ (ਹੁਣ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ॥੨॥੧੨॥੧੫੦॥

ਚਿੰਤਾਮਣਿ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chintaaman karunaa ma-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the merciful God, You are the wish-fulfilling Crown-Jewel. ||1||Pause||.
ਹੇ ਤਰਸ-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਐਸਾ ਰਤਨ ਹੈਂ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਿਤਵੀਆਂ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥
deen da-i-aalaa paarbarahm.
O’ the all-pervading God, You are the merciful Master of the meek.
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਸੁਖ ਭਏ ॥੧॥
jaa kai simran sukh bha-ay. ||1||
By meditating on You, peace is attained. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧ ॥
akaal purakh agaaDh boDh.
O’ eternal God, You are beyond comprehension.
ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈl
ਸੁਨਤ ਜਸੋ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਘ ਖਏ ॥੨॥
sunat jaso kot agh kha-ay. ||2||
By listening to Your praises millions of sins vanish. ||2||
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
kirpaa niDh parabh ma-i-aa Dhaar.
O’ God, the treasure of mercy, show Your kindness,
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਲਏ ॥੩॥੧੩॥੧੫੧॥
naanak har har naam la-ay. ||3||13||151||
so that Nanak is always meditating on your Name. ||3||13||151||
ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੩॥੧੩॥੧੫੧॥

ga-orhee poorbee mehlaa 5.
Raag Gauree Poorbee, Fifth Guru:
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ॥
mayray man saran parabhoo sukh paa-ay.
O’ my mind, peace is only attained in the refuge of God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਦਿਨਿ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਤ ਅਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa din bisrai paraan sukh-daata so din jaat ajaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
That day passes in vain when God, the Giver of life is forgotten. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏਕ ਰੈਣ ਕੇ ਪਾਹੁਨ ਤੁਮ ਆਏ ਬਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਆਸ ਬਧਾਏ ॥
ayk rain kay paahun tum aa-ay baho jug aas baDhaa-ay.
You have come in this world as a guest for a short while and yet you hope to stay here for ages.
ਤੁਸੀ ਇਕ ਰਾਤ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ)ਆਏ ਹੋ ਪਰ ਇਥੇ ਕਈ ਜੁਗ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ।
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮੰਦਰ ਸੰਪੈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਏ ॥੧॥
garih mandar sampai jo deesai ji-o tarvar kee chhaa-ay. ||1||
All these mansions and worldly wealth which you see are temporary like the shade of a tree. ||1||
ਇਹ ਘਰ ਮਹਲ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ-ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਰੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ (ਸਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਬਾਹੁੰਦਾ) ॥੧॥
ਤਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੰਪੈ ਸਭ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਗ ਮਿਲਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਏ ॥
tan mayraa sampai sabh mayree baag milakh sabh jaa-ay.
You think that this body, the land, the gardens and all the possessions are yours forever.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਾਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਬਾਗ਼ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਥਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਨ.
ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰਾ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਏ ॥੨॥
dayvanhaaraa bisri-o thaakur khin meh hot paraa-ay. ||2||
You have forgotten God, the benefactor of all; in an instant these shall belong to somebody else. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਛਡਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ।॥੨॥
