ਪੰਚ ਭੂਤ ਸਚਿ ਭੈ ਰਤੇ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
panch bhoot sach bhai ratay jot sachee man maahi.
His body made of five elements (ether, fire, air,water and earth ) remains imbued with revered fear of God and His light fills his mind.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਉਗਣ ਵੀਸਰੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਪਤਿ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੪॥੧੫॥
naanak a-ugan veesray gur raakhay pat taahi. ||4||15||
O’ Nanak, he forsakes all his vices all his vices and the Guru saves his honor.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ (ਤਜ) ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰਖਦੇ ਹੈਨ।

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇੜੀ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਤਰੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
naanak bayrhee sach kee taree-ai gur veechaar.
O’ Nanak, by following Guru’s teachings, if we live truthfully we can swim across this worldly- ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਈਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਜਾਵਹੀ ਪੂਰਿ ਭਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥
ik aavahi ik jaavhee poor bharay ahaNkaar.
Otherwise, multitude of egotistical are rotating in the cycles of birth and death.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਮਤੀ ਬੂਡੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੁ ਤਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
manhath matee boodee-ai gurmukh sach so taar. ||1||
Person who follows the dictate of his mind drowns in worldly ocean of vices but one who follows Guru’s teachings, God helps him swims across.
ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬੀਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur bin ki-o taree-ai sukh ho-ay.
Without the Guru’s guidance, how can anyone swim across the world-ocean of vices and find peace in life?
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh too mai avar na doojaa ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, save me in whatever way You please. Except You there is nobody else whom I can call mine.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਮੇਰੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰ। ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ l
ਆਗੈ ਦੇਖਉ ਡਉ ਜਲੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਹਰਿਓ ਅੰਗੂਰੁ ॥
aagai daykh-a-u da-o jalai paachhai hari-o angoor.
World is like a forest in which people are dying like burning trees and new children are being born like new greens sprouting.
ਜਗਤ ਇਕ ਜੰਗਲ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਅੱਗ ਵੱਡੇ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ (ਪਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ; ਤੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਕੋਮਲ ਬੂਟੇ ਉੱਗਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਿੱਛੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਕੋਮਲ ਬਾਲ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਚੁ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
jis tay upjai tis tay binsai ghat ghat sach bharpoor.
He, who creates them, is also their destroyer. The eternal God pervades each and every heart.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ (ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ) ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥
aapay mayl milaavahee saachai mahal hadoor. ||2||
O God, You unite human beings with yourself and You keep them in Your presence at Your eternal abode.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥
ਸਾਹਿ ਸਾਹਿ ਤੁਝੁ ਸੰਮਲਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰੇਉ ॥
saahi saahi tujh sammlaa kaday na vaysaara-o.
O’ God, bless me that I may remember You with love and devotion with every breath and may never forget You.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾਵਾਂ
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਸਾਹਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੇਉ ॥
ji-o ji-o saahab man vasai gurmukh amrit pay-o.
More The Master dwells within my mind, more the Nectar God’s Name I shall relish by the Guru’s grace.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਸਮੇਉ ॥੩॥
man tan tayraa too Dhanee garab nivaar samay-o. ||3||
Mind and body are Yours; You are my Master. Please rid me of my ego and let me merge with You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਤਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ। ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਾਂ l
ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਕਰਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
jin ayhu jagat upaa-i-aa taribhavan kar aakaar.
He who has created this universe in the form of three worlds (earth, sky and nether region),
ਜਿਸ (ਜੋਤਿ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
gurmukh chaanan jaanee-ai manmukh mugaDh gubaar.
can only be realized with the light of the Guru’s word, while the self-willed fools remain in the darkness of ignorance.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
ghat ghat jot nirantree boojhai gurmat saar. ||4||
One who sees that Light within each and every heart understands the Essence of the Guru’s Teachings.
ਜੋ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨੂਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਤੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕੀਚੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
gurmukh jinee jaani-aa tin keechai saabaas.
Those Guru’s followers who have realized God are commended.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਲਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥
sachay saytee ral milay sachay gun pargaas.
They meet and merge with the True One and the virtues of God manifest in them.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਘੜ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੫॥੧੬॥
naanak naam santokhee-aa jee-o pind parabh paas. ||5||16||
O Nanak, they are contented with the Naam, and they surrender their bodies and souls to God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ l

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਮਿਲੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੈ ਏਹ ॥
sun man mitar pi-aari-aa mil vaylaa hai ayh.
Listen, O’ my mind , my dear friend; this is the time (human life ) to meet God.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਨ! ਮੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਸਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਹ ॥
jab lag joban saas hai tab lag ih tan dayh.
As long as we are in youth and are breathing, our body is of some use.
ਜਦ ਤਾਈ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਹ ਹੈ, ਉਦੋਂ ਤਾਈ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇ ਦੇ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਤਨੁ ਖੇਹ ॥੧॥
bin gun kaam na aavee dheh dhayree tan khayh. ||1||
Without virtue, it is useless; the body shall crumble into a pile of dust.
ਨੇਕੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ) ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਿਗ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਬਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
mayray man lai laahaa ghar jaahi.
O’ my mind earn the profit of Naam, before you return to eternal home.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਇਥੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ) ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਹ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਨਿਵਰੀ ਭਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh naam salaahee-ai ha-umai nivree bhaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s teachings, praise God’s Name with love and devotion so that the fire of egotism is extinguished.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਗੰਢਣੁ ਗੰਢੀਐ ਲਿਖਿ ਪੜਿ ਬੁਝਹਿ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
sun sun gandhan gandhee-ai likh parh bujheh bhaar.
We may listen to all kinds of scriptures and connect these mythical stories with one another. we may read, write and interpret loads of such stories,
ਅਸੀਂ ਬਾਰੰਬਾਰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਘੜਦੇ ਹਾਂ। (ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਾਂ ਇਲਮ ਦੇ) ਭਾਰੇ ਬੋਝ ਲਿਖਦੇ, ਵਾਚਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅਗਲੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
tarisnaa ahinis aglee ha-umai rog vikaar.
but still, our desires keep intensifying day and night, and we remain plagued by the disease of ego and evil passions.
ਪਰ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਦਿਨ-ਰਾਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਆਪ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਾਇਮ ਹੈ।
ਓਹੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਅਤੋਲਵਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
oh vayparvaahu atolvaa gurmat keemat saar. ||2||
The carefree God is beyond any measure and it is only through the Guru’s teachings that we can understand His real worth.
ਉਹ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਤਾਜ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਜੋਖ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਖ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਜੇ ਕਰੀ ਲਖ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਪੁ ॥
lakh si-aanap jay karee lakh si-o pareet milaap.
Even if someone has hundreds of thousands of clever thoughts, and the love and company of hundreds of thousands of people,
ਜੇਕਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਕਲਮੰਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੇ ਮੇਲ-ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਰੱਖੇ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੀਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੂਖ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥
bin sangat saaDh na Dharaapee-aa bin naavai dookh santaap.
-still, without the holy company, spiritual thirst is not quenched. Without Naam we suffer miseries and woes.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਅਰੇ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚੀਨੈ ਆਪੁ ॥੩॥
har jap jee-aray chhutee-ai gurmukh cheenai aap. ||3||
O’ my soul, let us understand ourselves through the Guru’s teaching and save ourselves from the worldly desires by remembering God with love and devotion.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਵੇਚਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਿਰੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
tan man gur peh vaychi-aa man dee-aa sir naal.
I have completely surrendered myself to the Guru’s teachings,
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਕੋਲਿ ਵੇਚ ਛੱਡੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਿਲ ਤੇ ਸੀਸ ਭੀ ਸਾਥ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਢੰਢੋਲਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥
taribhavan khoj dhandholi-aa gurmukh khoj nihaal.
as a result, by the Guru’s Grace, I have realized the God within, whom I had been searching everywhere.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਜਹਾਨਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਭਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਸਾਂ।
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੭॥
satgur mayl milaa-i-aa naanak so parabh naal. ||4||17||
O’ Nanak, God is now always with me. The true Guru has brought about this union with Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਥ ਹੈ।

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਮਰਣੈ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਨਹੀ ਆਸ ॥
marnai kee chintaa nahee jeevan kee nahee aas.
I am not worried about death, Nor do I crave for life.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਬਾਰੇ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਹੀ ਲੇਖੈ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ॥
too sarab jee-aa partipaalahee laykhai saas giraas.
You are the Cherisher of all beings; You keep the account of our breaths and morsels of food.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਰਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਵਿਚ (ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੂ ਵਸਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਿਰਜਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
antar gurmukh too vaseh ji-o bhaavai ti-o nirjaas. ||1||
You, Yourself dwell within the heart of the Guru’s follower, You decide the fate of a person, as it pleases You.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੈਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਜੀਅਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jee-aray raam japat man maan.
O’ my dear soul,by meditating on God’s Name my mind has obtained satisfaction
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਤੀਜ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਜਲਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
antar laagee jal bujhee paa-i-aa gurmukh gi-aan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By the Guru’s grace I have obtained such a divine knowledge that the fire of desire burning within me has been extinguished.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਠੰਢੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
