Raag Gauree Poorbee, Fifth Guru:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God. Realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kavan gun paraanpat mila-o mayree maa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my mother, by what virtues can I meet the Master of my life? ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਂ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਾਂ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਰੂਪ ਹੀਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਲ ਹੀਨੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਰਦੇਸਨਿ ਦੂਰ ਤੇ ਆਈ ॥੧॥
roop heen buDh bal heenee mohi pardaysan door tay aa-ee. ||1||
I am without virtues, knowledge or power; I am a stranger to this righteous way of human life which I have received after many births.||1||
ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਰੂਪ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਹਾਂ, ਅਕਲ-ਹੀਣ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਤਾਕਤ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ , ਮੈਂ ਪਰਦੇਸਣ ਹਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਇਆ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਤੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਆਈ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਹਿਨ ਦਰਬੁ ਨ ਜੋਬਨ ਮਾਤੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
naahin darab na joban maatee mohi anaath kee karahu samaa-ee. ||2||
I neither have wealth of Naam, nor the enchantment of spiritual virtues. I am helpless; please take me into Your refuge. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੋਬਨ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਲਾਰਾ ਆ ਸਕੇ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਨਾਥ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈ ॥੨॥
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਈ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਫਿਰਤ ਤਿਸਾਈ ॥੩॥
khojat khojat bha-ee bairaagan parabh darsan ka-o ha-o firat tisaa-ee. ||3||
While craving for the sight of God, I have become a recluse. ||3||
ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤਿਹਾਈ ਫਿਰ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦੀ ਲੱਭਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਕਮਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਪਈ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੧੮॥
deen dayal kirpal prabh nanak saDhsang mayree jalan bujha-ee. ||4||1||118||
O’ Nanak, the merciful God has satisfied my pangs of separation from Him through the holy congregation. ||4||1||118||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨੇ ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਬੁਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੧੮॥

Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
parabh milbay ka-o pareet man laagee.
A craving to meet my beloved God has arisen in my heart.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਇ ਲਗਉ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੋਊ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paa-ay laga-o mohi kara-o bayntee ko-oo sant milai badbhaagee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If by good fortune I happen to meet the Guru, I would humbly request him to unite me with my Beloved God. ||pause||
ਵੱਡੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਵੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ll
ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਉ ਆਗੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
man arpa-o Dhan raakha-o aagai man kee mat mohi sagal ti-aagee.
I have renounced my self-conceit; I surrender also my mind and body to Him.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿਆਂ। ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਫਿਰਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਿਛੈ ਵਿਰਾਗੀ ॥੧॥
jo parabh kee har kathaa sunaavai an-din fira-o tis pichhai viraagee. ||1||
I would always follow him like a love-lost bride who recites the praises of God. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਪੂਰਬ ਕਰਮ ਅੰਕੁਰ ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਰਸਿਕ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
poorab karam ankur jab pargatay bhayti-o purakh rasik bairaagee.
When as a result of some good past deeds my preordained destiny began to come to fruition, I realized God who is detached from Maya and still enjoys everything through us.
ਜਦ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਭਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗੂਰ ਉੱਘੜ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਮਿਲ ਪਈ।
ਮਿਟਿਓ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਮਿਲਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਗੀ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੧੯॥
miti-o anDhayr milat har naanak janam janam kee so-ee jaagee. ||2||2||119||
O’ Nanak, on realizing God the darkness of my ignorance was dispelled and I woke up from the slumber of ignorance of many births.||2||2||119||
ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਣ ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਗ ਪਈ।॥੨॥੨॥੧੧੯॥

Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:
ਨਿਕਸੁ ਰੇ ਪੰਖੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਂਖ ॥
nikas ray pankhee simar har paaNkh.
O’ soul-bird, save yourself from the bonds of Maya by using meditation as wings.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੀਅਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mil saaDhoo saran gahu pooran raam ratan hee-aray sang raakh. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By following the Guru’s teachings, seek the support of God and enshrine the precious Naam in your heart. ||pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਕੂਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਰਸ ਪੰਕਜ ਅਤਿ ਤੀਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਣ ਮੋਹ ਕੀ ਫਾਸ ॥
bharam kee koo-ee tarisnaa ras pankaj at teekh-yan moh kee faas.
The craving for worldly pleasures is like a sludge in the well of doubts and the emotional attachment is like an extremely tight noose.
ਸ਼ੱਕ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੀ ਖੂਹੀ ਹੈ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਾਨਣ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਪੱਕੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿੱਖੀ) ਫਾਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰ ਜਗਤ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥੧॥
kaatanhaar jagat gur gobid charan kamal taa kay karahu nivaas. ||1||
God-Guru is the only one capable of cutting this noose. Therefore always remain immersed in the immaculate Naaam.||1||
ਇਸ ਫਾਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਹੀ ਹੈ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ-ਕਮਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
kar kirpaa gobind parabh pareetam deenaa naath sunhu ardaas.
O’ God, the beloved Master of the meek, show mercy and listen to my prayer.
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ,
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੨੦॥
kar geh layho naanak kay su-aamee jee-o pind sabh tumree raas. ||2||3||120||
O’ God, the Master of Nanak, this body and soul is Your blessing; please give me Your support and pull me out of this pit. ||2||3||120||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਲੈ ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਖੂਹੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੨੦॥.

Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਪੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
har paykhan ka-o simrat man mayraa.
I am lovingly meditating on God to behold His sight.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨੀ ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਨੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aas pi-aasee chitva-o din rainee hai ko-ee sant milaavai nayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In my quest to behold the Almighty God, I always I think of Him; I wish I find the Guru who can unite me with Him. ||1||pause||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋਈ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚਿਤਾਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ। (ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤ (ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ) ਨੇੜੇ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਉ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਰਉ ਨਿਹੋਰਾ ॥
sayvaa kara-o daas daasan kee anik bhaaNt tis kara-o nihoraa.
Very humbly, I would plead with the Guru, follow his teachings and meditate on Naam.
(ਜੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਤਰਲੇ ਕਰਾਂ।
ਤੁਲਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਤੋਲੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸ ਸਭੋ ਹੀ ਥੋਰਾ ॥੧॥
tulaa Dhaar tolay sukh saglay bin har daras sabho hee thoraa. ||1||
I have have taken into account all the worldly comforts and pleasures; without the blessed sight of God, all these are totally inadequate. ||1||
ਤੱਕੜੀ ਉਤੇ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਤੋਲੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ- ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ (ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਹੌਲੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਨ ਸਾਗਰ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੋ ਜਾਤ ਬਹੋਰਾ ॥
sant parsaad gaa-ay gun saagar janam janam ko jaat bahoraa.
By the grace of the Guru when I sang the the ocean-full of praises of God, I was saved from the rounds of birth and death.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਜਨਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੈਂ ਮੋੜ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੋੜ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ)।
ਆਨਦ ਸੂਖ ਭੇਟਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਤਾਰਥੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੨੧॥
aanad sookh bhaytat har naanak janam kirtaarath safal savayraa. ||2||4||121||
O’ Nanak, upon having the sight of God, I have been blessed with peace and the goal of my life has been accomplished. ||2||4||121||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਨਮ ਵੇਲੇ-ਸਿਰ (ਇਸੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੨੧॥

ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥
kin biDh milai gusaa-ee mayray raam raa-ay.
O’ my sovereign God! how can I meet You, the Master of the universe?
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੇ?
ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੇਇ ਬਤਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ko-ee aisaa sant sahj sukh-daata mohi maarag day-ay bataa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I wish I find the Saint-Guru, the bestower of intuitive peace who can show me the way to realize God. ||1||Pause||
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੰਤ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰਸਤਾ ਦੱਸ ਦੇਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
