ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੁ ॥
gur kaa sabad amrit ras chaakh.
and enjoy the bliss of the ambrosial nectar of Guru’s word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਰਿ ਜਤਨ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਉਨ ਕਾਜ ॥
avar jatan kahhu ka-un kaaj.
(forsaking God) of what use are your other efforts when,
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਆ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ?
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਲਾਜ ॥੨॥
kar kirpaa raakhai aap laaj. ||2||
showing His mercy, God Himself protects the honor of His devotee. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਿਆ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਜੋਰੁ ॥
ki-aa maanukh kahhu ki-aa jor.
Tell me, what power human beings have?
ਦੱਸੋ, ਇਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗੇ ਹਨ? ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਕੜ (ਦੀ) ਕੀਹ (ਪਾਂਇਆਂ) ਹੈ?
ਝੂਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਸੋਰੁ ॥
jhoothaa maa-i-aa kaa sabh sor.
All the tumult of Maya is false and short lived.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਫੂੰ-ਫਾਂ ਝੂਠੀ ਹੈ (ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਕਰਣ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
karan karaavanhaar su-aamee.
It is God who does and gets everything done.
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੩॥
sagal ghataa kay antarjaamee. ||3||
He knows the secrets of all hearts. ||3||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਹੁ ॥
sarab sukhaa sukh saachaa ayhu.
Of all the pleasures, the supreme and everlasting pleasure is.
ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸੁਖ, ਤੇ, ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਖ,
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥
gur updays manai meh layho.
to keep the Guru’s teachings enshrined in the heart.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
jaa ka-o raam naam liv laagee.
One who is attuned to the love of God’s Name.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਧੰਨੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੪॥੭॥੭੬॥
kaho naanak so Dhan vadbhaagee. ||4||7||76||
Nanak says, blessed is that fortunate person ||4||7||76||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਹ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥੭੬॥

Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Guru:
ਸੁਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਉਤਾਰੀ ਮੈਲੁ ॥
sun har kathaa utaaree mail.
Upon listening to God’s praises, those who became free off the filth of vices,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਲਾਹ ਲਈ,
ਮਹਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਭਏ ਸੁਖ ਸੈਲੁ ॥
mahaa puneet bha-ay sukh sail.
become immaculate and attained all the comforts and peace.
ਉਹ ਬੜੇ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ।
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ॥
vadai bhaag paa-i-aa saaDhsang.
By great good fortune, they were blessed with the company of saints.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੧॥
paarbarahm si-o laago rang. ||1||
and were imbued with love of God. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਜਨੁ ਤਾਰਿਓ ॥
har har naam japat jan taari-o.
The Guru has saved the devotee who has been meditating on God’s Name.
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
agan saagar gur paar utaari-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru has helped the devotee to swim across the ocean of the fire of worldly desires. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਮਨ ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ॥
kar keertan man seetal bha-ay.
Those whose minds became tranquil by singing praises of God,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਠੰਢੇ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਗਏ ॥
janam janam kay kilvikh ga-ay.
their sins of countless births were washed away.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਜਨਮਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪੇਖੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sarab niDhaan paykhay man maahi.
They saw and enjoyed the pleasure of all the nine treasures in their mind itself.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ,
ਅਬ ਢੂਢਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
ab dhoodhan kaahay ka-o jaahi. ||2||
therefore, why should they search anywhere else? ||2||
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਢੂੰਡਣ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਉਹ (ਹੋਰ ਕਿਤੇ) ਕਿਉਂ ਜਾਣ? ॥੨॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਬ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
parabh apunay jab bha-ay da-i-aal.
When God became kind to His devotees,
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਕ ਘਾਲ ॥
pooran ho-ee sayvak ghaal.
the service of His devotees was accomplished.
ਤਦੋਂ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ (ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਨਤ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੀਏ ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ॥
banDhan kaat kee-ay apnay daas.
Snapping their bonds of worldly attachment, He yoked them into His service.
(ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥੩॥
simar simar simar guntaas. ||3||
By continuously meditating on God, the treasure of virtues, the devotees merge in Him. ||3||
ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੩॥
ਏਕੋ ਮਨਿ ਏਕੋ ਸਭ ਠਾਇ ॥
ayko man ayko sabh thaa-ay.
He realizes that the same One is pervading his heart and everywhere else.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥
pooran poor rahi-o sabh jaa-ay.
That perfect God is permeating every place.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
gur poorai sabh bharam chukaa-i-aa.
One whose doubts have been dispelled by the Perfect Guru.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੭੭॥
har simrat naanak sukh paa-i-aa. ||4||8||77||
O’ Nanak, by meditating on God, he has attained peace. ||4||8||77||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੮॥੭੭॥
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 5.
Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Guru:
ਅਗਲੇ ਮੁਏ ਸਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੇ ॥
aglay mu-ay se paachhai paray.
Our ancestors left the worldly wealth behind and have already been forgotten.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਡੇ-ਵਡੇਰੇ ਮਰ ਚੁਕੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਇੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ),
ਜੋ ਉਬਰੇ ਸੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਲਕੁ ਖਰੇ ॥
jo ubray say banDh lak kharay.
Those who are still alive are steadfastly busy in amassing worldly wealth.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਹੁਣ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜਨ ਲਈ) ਲੱਕ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਖਲੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਹ ਧੰਧੇ ਮਹਿ ਓਇ ਲਪਟਾਏ ॥
jih DhanDhay meh o-ay laptaa-ay.
The pursuit of worldly wealth in which the ancestors were engrossed,
ਜਿਸ ਧੰਧੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ (ਮਰ ਚੁਕੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵਡੇਰੇ) ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ,
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਦੁਗੁਣ ਦਿੜੀ ਉਨ ਮਾਏ ॥੧॥
un tay dugun dirhee un maa-ay. ||1||
their heirs are engrossed in the same pursuit, with double the vigor. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਪਕੜ ਉਹ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਓਹ ਬੇਲਾ ਕਛੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
oh baylaa kachh cheet na aavai.
That time doesn’t even come to the mortal’s mind when he must leave everything and depart from here, like his ancestors.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਮਾ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ (ਜਦੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ-ਵਡੇਰਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਇੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ)।
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਤਾਹੂ ਲਪਟਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
binas jaa-ay taahoo laptaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Instead, he keeps clinging to the worldly wealth which is perishable. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਉਸੇ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭਣਾ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧੀ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇਹ ॥
aasaa banDhee moorakh dayh.
The body of the foolish human being is bound down by worldly desires.
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ) ਆਸਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਕੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਅਸਨੇਹ ॥
kaam kroDh lapti-o asnayh.
He remains entangled in lust, anger and emotional attachment.
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਠਾਢੋ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥
sir oopar thaadho Dharam raa-ay.
Over one’s head stands the demon of death (one could die any moment)
ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੀਠੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
meethee kar kar bikhi-aa khaa-ay. ||2||
Believing it to be sweet, a human being keeps collecting and tasting the poison of worldly wealth. ||2||
ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਮਾਇਆ -ਜ਼ਹਰ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਜਾਣ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਉ ਬੰਧਉ ਹਉ ਸਾਧਉ ਬੈਰੁ ॥
ha-o banDha-o ha-o saaDha-o bair.
in his ego he keeps saying: “I shall tie up and settle my account with the enemy”
(ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਉਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ-ਭਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ:) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਵੈਰ (ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ) ਲਵਾਂਗਾ,
ਹਮਰੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਘਾਲੈ ਪੈਰੁ ॥
hamree bhoom ka-un ghaalai pair.
who dares to set foot upon my land?
ਮੇਰੀ ਭੁਇਂ ਉਤੇ ਕੌਣ ਪੈਰ ਧਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਹਉ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਹਉ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
ha-o pandit ha-o chatur si-aanaa.
I am learned, I am clever and wise.
ਮੈਂ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਚਤੁਰ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
karnaihaar na bujhai bigaanaa. ||3||
The ignorant does not understand the Creator. ||3||
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ (ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ) ॥੩॥
ਅਪੁਨੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
apunee gat mit aapay jaanai.
God Himself knows His state and limit.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਨੈ ॥
ki-aa ko kahai ki-aa aakh vakhaanai.
What can anyone say? How can anyone describe Him?
ਜੀਵ (ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਬਾਰੇ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਕਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਨਾ ॥
jit jit laaveh tit tit lagnaa.
One has to do (the job) which one has been assigned.
ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਧਰ ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪਨਾ ਭਲਾ ਸਭ ਕਾਹੂ ਮੰਗਨਾ ॥੪॥
apnaa bhalaa sabh kaahoo mangnaa. ||4||
O’God, everyone beg for their welfare from You. ||4||
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਲੇ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਮੰਗਣੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
sabh kichh tayraa tooN karnaihaar.
O’ God, everything is Yours, You are the Creator.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਅੰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
ant naahee kichh paaraavaar.
Your virtues and powers are limitless.
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦਾਸ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
daas apnay ka-o deejai daan.
O’ God, please bless Your humble devotee with this gift,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼,
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੫॥੯॥੭੮॥
kabhoo na visrai naanak naam. ||5||9||78||
that Nanak may never forget Naam. ||5||9||78||
ਕਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ॥੫॥੯॥੭੮॥

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਛੁਟਾਰਾ ॥
anik jatan nahee hot chhutaaraa.
By all sorts of efforts, one can not get liberated from the worldly attachments.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਆਗਲ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
bahut si-aanap aagal bhaaraa.
Too much cleverness only piles up the load of more and more sorrows.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਬਹੁਤੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ) ਬਹੁਤਾ ਭਾਰ (ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੇਤ ॥
har kee sayvaa nirmal hayt.
Through the devotional worship of God with pure love,
ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੇਤ ॥੧॥
parabh kee dargeh sobhaa sayt. ||1||
one goes to God’s court with honor. ||1||
ਜੀਵ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ-ਆਬਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।॥੧॥
