ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਆਪੁ ਜਣਾਵਹਿ ॥
bhagat karahi moorakh aap janaaveh.
The fools perform devotional worship to show themselves off.
ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਕ ਰਾਸਾਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਚਿ ਨਚਿ ਟਪਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
nach nach tapeh bahut dukh paavahi.
They dance and jump again and again, and endure great misery.
ਉਹ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਨੱਚ ਨੱਚ ਕੇ ਟੱਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਘਣੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਚਿਐ ਟਪਿਐ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
nachi-ai tapi-ai bhagat na ho-ay.
By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed.
ਨੱਚਣ ਟੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
sabad marai bhagat paa-ay jan so-ay. ||3||
One, who through the Guru’s word completely loses one’s self-conceit is blessed with the true devotional worship. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਵਲੋਂ, ਹਉਮੈ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhagat vachhal bhagat karaa-ay so-ay.
God, the lover of His devotees; inspires them to perform His devotional worship.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
sachee bhagat vichahu aap kho-ay.
The self-conceit is eliminated from within by the true devotional worship.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
mayraa parabh saachaa sabh biDh jaanai.
My eternal God knows all ways of the mortals, whether they are performing true worship or just the rituals.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਢੰਗ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਪਖੰਡ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੨੪॥
naanak bakhsay naam pachhaanai. ||4||4||24||
O’ Nanak, the one on whom God showers His Grace realizes Naam. ||4||4||24||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 3.
Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Guru:
ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਧਾਤੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
man maaray Dhaat mar jaa-ay.
When one subdues his mind, his wandering for Maya ceases.
ਜਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਮੂਏ ਕੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
bin moo-ay kaisay har paa-ay.
Without controlling the mind, how can one realize God?
ਮਨ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਆਦਮੀ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਦਾਰੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
man marai daaroo jaanai ko-ay.
Only a few know the medicine to control the mind.
ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
man sabad marai boojhai jan so-ay. ||1||
The person who knows that the mind is brought under control through the Guru’s word is a true devotee. ||1||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jis no bakhsay day vadi-aa-ee.
The person upon whom God becomes gracious is given this honor,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaad har vasai man aa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and by the Guru’s Grace, God comes to dwell in his heart. ||1||Pause||
(ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh karnee kaar kamaavai.
When one conducts oneself according to the Guru’s teachings,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਬਣਾਣ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
taa is man kee sojhee paavai.
then one obtains understanding about the nature of mind,
ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਨ (ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ) ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੁ ਮੈ ਮਤੁ ਮੈਗਲ ਮਿਕਦਾਰਾ ॥
man mai mat maigal mikdaaraa.
Like an intoxicated elephant, the mind is full of ego.
ਕਿ ਮਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਹਾਥੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
gur ankas maar jeevaalanhaaraa. ||2||
It is only the Guru who is capable to rejuvenate a spiritually dead mind with his teachings. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਅੰਕੁਸ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ
ਮਨੁ ਅਸਾਧੁ ਸਾਧੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
man asaaDh saaDhai jan ko-ay.
The mind is uncontrollable;only a rare person subdues it.
ਮਨ ਸੌਖੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
achar charai taa nirmal ho-ay.
When one eradicates the self-conceit, then his mind becomes immaculate.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅਮੋੜ-ਪੁਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਇਆ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh ih man la-i-aa savaar.
The Guru’s follower has embellished this mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਤਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
ha-umai vichahu tajay vikaar. ||3||
He has eradicated egotism and other vices from within. ||3||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮੰਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਕਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਅਨੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jo Dhur raakhi-an mayl milaa-ay.
They who have been preordained to be saved, have been united with the Guru.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
kaday na vichhurheh sabad samaa-ay.
They remain merged in the Guru’s word, and are never separated from God.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਦੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
aapnee kalaa aapay hee jaanai.
God Himself knows His own Power.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਹ ਗੁਝੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੨੫॥
naanak gurmukh naam pachhaanai. ||4||5||25||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s follower realizes Naam. ||4||5||25||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l

Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Guru:
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ॥
ha-umai vich sabh jag ba-uraanaa.
The entire world has gone insane in egotism.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਝੱਲਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay bharam bhulaanaa.
In the love of duality, it wanders deluded by doubt.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
baho chintaa chitvai aap na pachhaanaa.
One worries too much, but does not recognize one’s true self.
ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕਈ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ,
ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਵਿਹਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
DhanDhaa karti-aa an-din vihaanaa. ||1||
Occupied with the worldly affairs, their entire life is passing away. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਹਰੇਕ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਮਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
hirdai raam ramhu mayray bhaa-ee.
O’ my brothers, lovingly meditate on God’s Name in your heart.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh rasnaa har rasan rasaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s teachings, make your tongue sweet with the elixir of God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਰਸੀਲੀ ਬਣਾ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
gurmukh hirdai jin raam pachhaataa.
Through the Guru’s teachings, one who has realized God in his heart,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾ ਲਈ,
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
jagjeevan sayv jug chaaray jaataa.
has become known forever by meditating on God.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
ha-umai maar gur sabad pachhaataa.
Eradicating egotism, one realizes God through the Guru’s word,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
kirpaa karay parabh karam biDhaataa. ||2||
on whom God, the architect of destiny, showers His mercy. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ (ਕੀਤੇ) ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
say jan sachay jo gur sabad milaa-ay.
The mortals whom God unites with the Guru’s word.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਧਾਵਤ ਵਰਜੇ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
Dhaavat varjay thaak rahaa-ay.
whom He stops and restrains from running after Maya,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਦੌੜਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
naam nav niDh gur tay paa-ay.
They receive Naam which is like all the treasure of the world, from the Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ) ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥੩॥
har kirpaa tay har vasai man aa-ay. ||3||
By His own grace, God comes to dwell in their hearts, ||3||
ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
raam raam karti-aa sukh saaNt sareer.
By lovingly meditating on God’s Name, the body becomes peaceful and tranquil.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਮ ਪੀਰ ॥
antar vasai na laagai jam peer.
The person within whom dwells God, is not afflicted by the fear of death.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ) ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਜੀਰ ॥
aapay saahib aap vajeer.
God Himself is the Master of the universe and He Himself the Counselor.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰ ॥੪॥੬॥੨੬॥
naanak sayv sadaa har gunee gaheer. ||4||6||26||
O Nanak, always worship God who is unfathomable ocean of virtues. ||4||6||26||
ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ l
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Guru:
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥
so ki-o visrai jis kay jee-a paraanaa.
Why forget Him, unto whom the soul and the breath of life belong?
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਈਏ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ-ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਹਨ,
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
so ki-o visrai sabh maahi samaanaa.
Why forget Him, who is all-pervading?
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਈਏ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ?
ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
jit sayvi-ai dargeh pat parvaanaa. ||1||
Meditating on whom, one is accepted and honored in God’s Court. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
har kay naam vitahu bal jaa-o.
I dedicate myself to God’s Name.
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਤਦਿ ਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tooN visrahi tad hee mar jaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, I spiritually die the moment I forsake You. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ!
ਤਿਨ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
tin tooN visrahi je tuDh aap bhulaa-ay.
O’ God, You are forgotten by those who went astray from You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
