ਦਯਿ ਵਿਗੋਏ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ਫਿਟਾ ਵਤੈ ਗਲਾ ॥
da-yi vigo-ay fireh vigutay fitaa vatai galaa.
Strayed from God, they wander in disgrace, and their entire troop is ruined.
ਰੱਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ l ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਵਾ ਹੀ ਊਤਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲੇ ਸੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਰਖੈ ॥
jee-aa maar jeevaalay so-ee avar na ko-ee rakhai.
It is God alone who sustains and destroys the creatures and no one else can save life.
(ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਕਿ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਜੀਵਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਜੀਊਂਦਾ) ਰੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦਾਨਹੁ ਤੈ ਇਸਨਾਨਹੁ ਵੰਜੇ ਭਸੁ ਪਈ ਸਿਰਿ ਖੁਥੈ ॥
daanhu tai isnaanhu vanjay bhas pa-ee sir khuthai.
They go without giving any charity or any cleansing baths; they gather dust on their plucked heads.
ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਸੁਆਹ ਪਈ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਖੁੱਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਰਤਨ ਉਪੰਨੇ ਮੇਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਮਾਧਾਣੀ ॥
paanee vichahu ratan upannay mayr kee-aa maaDhaanee.
It was the water from which the jewels were obtained, by churning the ocean using the Meru mountain as a churning spindle.
(ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ) ਸੁਮੇਰ ਪਰਬਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਧਾਣੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਰਿੜਕਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੀ ਰਤਨ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਸਨ l
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇਵੀ ਥਾਪੇ ਪੁਰਬੀ ਲਗੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
athsath tirath dayvee thaapay purbee lagai banee;
The sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage were established for the angels on the banks of rivers, where the festivals are celebrated and hymns are chanted.
(ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਲਈ ਅਠਾਹਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਣਾਏ ਗਏ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪੁਰਬ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਥਾ-ਵਾਰਤਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਇ ਨਿਵਾਜਾ ਨਾਤੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਾਵਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਜਾਣੀ ॥
naa-ay nivaajaa naatai poojaa naavan sadaa sujaanee.
After bathing, the Muslims recite their prayers, and after bathing, the Hindus perform their worship. The wise always take cleansing baths.
ਨ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਨ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੁਇਆ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਸਿਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
mu-i-aa jeevdi-aa gat hovai jaaN sir paa-ee-ai paanee.
From birth to death, the human body is kept clean by taking bath or shower.
ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਅੱਛ ਹਾਲਤ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰੇ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਰਖੁਥੇ ਸੈਤਾਨੀ ਏਨਾ ਗਲ ਨ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
naanak sirkhutay saitaanee aynaa gal na bhaanee.
O Nanak, the plucked-headed ones are like devils. They do not like to hear these words to use water for bathing).
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਸਿਰ-ਖੁੱਥੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਹਨ) ਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗੀ।
ਵੁਠੈ ਹੋਇਐ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਜੀਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
vuthai ho-i-ai ho-ay bilaaval jee-aa jugat samaanee.
When it rains, there is happiness. Water is the key to all life.
ਮੀਂਹ ਪਿਆਂ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੀ (ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ l
ਵੁਠੈ ਅੰਨੁ ਕਮਾਦੁ ਕਪਾਹਾ ਸਭਸੈ ਪੜਦਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
vuthai ann kamaad kapaahaa sabhsai parh-daa hovai.
When it rains, the grains grow, the sugar cane grows (which provide food), and the cotton, which provides clothing for all.
ਮੀਂਹ ਪਿਆਂ ਅੰਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਮਾਦ ਉੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਪਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੜਦਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਵੁਠੈ ਘਾਹੁ ਚਰਹਿ ਨਿਤਿ ਸੁਰਹੀ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਦਹੀ ਵਿਲੋਵੈ ॥
vuthai ghaahu chareh nit surhee saa Dhan dahee vilovai.
When it rains, the cows always have grass to graze upon, and housewives have yogurt to churn into butter (and make Ghee- clarified butter)
ਮੀਂਹ ਪਿਆਂ ਉੱਗਿਆ ਘਾਹ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਚੁਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਦਹੀਂ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਨਾਨੀ ਰਿੜਕਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਘਿਉ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਤਿਤੁ ਘਿਇ ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਸਦ ਪੂਜਾ ਪਇਐ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
tit ghi-ay hom jag sad poojaa pa-i-ai kaaraj sohai.
With that ghee (clarified-butter), sacred feasts and worship services are performed; and all these rituals look impressive.
ਉਸ ਘਿਉ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਮ-ਜੱਗ ਪੂਜਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਘਿਉ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਾਰਜ ਸੋਭਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਨਦੀ ਸਭਿ ਸਿਖੀ ਨਾਤੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
guroo samund nadee sabh sikhee naatai jit vadi-aa-ee
The Guru is like the ocean of divine knowledge, and all His Teachings are like the rivers. Bathing within it (following the Guru’s teaching) , glory is obtained.
(ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਭੀ ਹੈ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਗੁਰ-ਸਿੱਖਿਆ) ਵਿਚ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਨ ਨਾਲ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਸਿਰਖੁਥੇ ਨਾਵਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਸਤ ਚਟੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਾਈ ॥੧॥
naanak jay sirkhutay naavan naahee taa sat chatay sir chhaa-ee. ||1||
O’ Nanak, if the plucked-headed ones do not bathe ( follow Guru’s teaching), then they are disgraced, as if seven handfuls of ashes are upon their heads.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਇਹ ਸਿਰ-ਖੁੱਥੇ (ਇਸ ‘ਨਾਮ’-ਜਲ ਵਿਚ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਤਾਂ ਨਿਰੀ ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ l

Shalok, by the Second Guru:
ਅਗੀ ਪਾਲਾ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੇਹੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
agee paalaa ke karay sooraj kayhee raat.
As fire has been given the quality of warmth by God), no amount of cold can do any harm to fire. Similarly night cannot erase the light of the sun
ਠੰਢ ਅੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਸੂਰਜ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ l
ਚੰਦ ਅਨੇਰਾ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
chand anayraa ke karay pa-un paanee ki-aa jaat.
The darkness can do no harm to the Moon. No social status (high or low) can pollute the water or the air.
ਹਨੇਰਾ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਕੋਈ ਉੱਚੀ ਨੀਵੀਂ) ਜਾਤਿ ਹਵਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਿੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ)।
ਧਰਤੀ ਚੀਜੀ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Dhartee cheejee ke karay jis vich sabh kichh ho-ay.
Nothing can affect the earth, in which everything grows.
ਜਿਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak taa pat jaanee-ai jaa pat rakhai so-ay. ||2||
Similarly O’ Nanak, when God Himself saves one’s honor, only then is one known as honorable.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਪਤਵੰਤਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਊਸ ਦੀ ਇਜਤ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖੇ।

ਤੁਧੁ ਸਚੇ ਸੁਬਹਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਲਾਣਿਆ ॥
tuDh sachay sub-haan sadaa kalaani-aa.
O’ my True God, I always praised You as Wondrous.
ਹੇ ਸੱਚੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ)! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ‘ਸੁਬਹਾਨੁ’ (ਆਖ ਆਖ ਕੇ) ਵਡਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
tooN sachaa deebaan hor aavan jaani-aa.
You alone are the eternal ruler; all others are subjected to birth and death.
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਕਮ ਹੈਂ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਜੇਹਿਆ ॥
sach je mangeh daan se tuDhai jayhi-aa.
Those who ask for the gift of Your True Name, they become like You.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੋ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਦਾਨ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥
sach tayraa furmaan sabday sohi-aa.
Through the word of the Guru, Your eternal command seems pleasing to them.
ਤੇਰਾ ਅੱਟਲ ਹੁਕਮ (ਗੁਰ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੰਨਿਐ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਤੁਧੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
mani-ai gi-aan Dhi-aan tuDhai tay paa-i-aa.
By obeying Your command, they obtain divine knowledge and higher intellect from You.
ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮਿ ਪਵੈ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥
karam pavai neesaan na chalai chalaa-i-aa.
By Your Grace, their destiny become beautiful, which cannot be erased.
ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਮਿਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਚੜਹਿ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥
tooN sachaa daataar nit dayveh charheh savaa-i-aa.
You are the True Giver; You give continually. Your Gifts continue to multiply.
ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨੬॥
naanak mangai daan jo tuDh bhaa-i-aa. ||26||
Nanak begs for that gift which is pleasing to You.
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਉਹੀ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੨ ॥

Shalok, by the Second Guru:
ਦੀਖਿਆ ਆਖਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮੇਉ ॥
deekhi-aa aakh bujhaa-i-aa siftee sach samay-o.
They, whom the Guru through his teachings has made to understand the Truth and has united them with God’s name through singing His Praises,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਆ ਉਪਦੇਸੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਉ ॥੧॥
tin ka-o ki-aa updaysee-ai jin gur naanak day-o. ||1||
What more teachings can be imparted to them who have Guru Nanak as their Guru?
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਬ-ਰੂਪ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੈ।

mehlaa 1.
Shalok, by the First Guru:
ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
aap bujhaa-ay so-ee boojhai.
He alone knows (the way of God’s praise), to whom God reveals Himself.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
jis aap sujhaa-ay tis sabh kichh soojhai.
He alone knows everything, unto whom God Himself gives knowledge.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਥਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
kahi kahi kathnaa maa-i-aa loojhai.
The one who merely talks without divine knowledge, is still consumed by Maya.
ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਸੂਝ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਕਰੇ ਆਕਾਰ ॥
hukmee sagal karay aakaar.
God creates all beings according to His Will,
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ-ਜੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
aapay jaanai sarab veechaar.
He Himself knows about all the needs of creatures.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਖਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਖਿਓ ਆਪਿ ॥
akhar naanak akhi-o aap.
O’ Nanak, whatever word I have uttered, is what God Himself has said.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਹੈ ਭਰਾਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
lahai bharaat hovai jis daat. ||2||
Doubt departs from one who receives this gift of Divine knowledge.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ‘ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ’ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ

ਹਉ ਢਾਢੀ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
ha-o dhaadhee vaykaar kaarai la
I was an idle minstrel, when God took me into His service.
ਮੈਂ ਵੇਹਲਾ ਸਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਢਾਢੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਅਸਲ) ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਹੈ ਕੈ ਵਾਰ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
raat dihai kai vaar Dharahu furmaa-i-aa.
It was the divine command that whether it is day or night, I should go out and sing His praises.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਰਾਤ ਹੋਵੇ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਦਿਨ ਜਸ ਕਰੋ।
ਢਾਢੀ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਖਸਮਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
dhaadhee sachai mahal khasam bulaa-i-aa.
(When I did this), The Master summoned me to His True Court.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਢਾਢੀ ਨੂੰ (ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਦਿਆ।
ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਪੜਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sachee sifat saalaah kaprhaa paa-i-aa.
He honored me with the robes of His True Praise and Glory.
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸੱਚੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ-ਰੂਪ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਰੋਪਾਉ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਸਚਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
sachaa amrit naam bhojan aa-i-aa.
I received from Him the Ambrosial Nectar of True Naam as my spiritual food.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਤਮਕ ਭੋਜਨ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਖਾਧਾ ਰਜਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gurmatee khaaDhaa raj tin sukh paa-i-aa.
Following the Guru’s teachings, whosoever has partaken of this food (Nectar of Naam), has obtained peace.
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ (ਇਹ ‘ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨ’) ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਖਾਧਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਢਾਢੀ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥
dhaadhee karay pasaa-o sabad vajaa-i-aa.
I am enjoying the bliss of Naam (received as a blessed gift from him) by singing His praises.
ਮੈਂ ਢਾਢੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲੇ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਛਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨੭॥ ਸੁਧੁ
naanak sach saalaahi pooraa paa-i-aa. ||27|| suDhu
O’ Nanak, the perfect God is realized by singing His praises .
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
