ਆਪ ਹੀ ਧਾਰਨ ਧਾਰੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਦੇਖਾਰੇ ਬਰਨੁ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਖ ਨ ਮਸਾਰੇ ॥
aap hee Dhaaran Dhaaray kudrat hai daykhaaray baran chihan naahee mukh na masaaray.
God Himself is the support for the universe and is displaying His creation; He Himself has no particular color, form, face or beard.
ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਰੰਗ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ, ਨਾ ਮੂੰਹ, ਤੇ ਨਾ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਤੁਲਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਏਕ ਜੀਹ ਕਿਆ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥
jan naanak bhagat dar tul barahm samsar ayk jeeh ki-aa bakhaanai.
Nanak, the devotee of God, has been approved in God’s presence and he is like God Himself; how can my one tongue describe his glory?
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਦਾਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਨਕ (ਹਰੀ ਦੇ) ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ (ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ) ਅਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ। (ਮੇਰੀ) ਇੱਕ ਜੀਭ (ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ) ਕੀਹ (ਗੁਣ) ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ?
ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
haaN ke bal bal bal bal sad balihaar. ||3||
I am dedicated again and again to Guru Nanak. ||3||
ਮੈਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੰ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨ ਗੵਾਨੰ ਧੵਾਨੰ ਊਚੇ ਤੇ ਊਚੌ ਜਾਨੀਜੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਥਾਨੰ ॥
sarab gun niDhaanaN keemat na ga-yaana Dha-yaana oochay tay oochou jaaneejai parabh tayro thaanaN.
O’ God, You are the treasure of all virtues, the value of knowledge about You and remembering You cannot be determined, and Your abode is known to be the highest of the high.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ) ਧਿਆਨ (ਜੋੜਨ) ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ (ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ)। ਤੇਰਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਉੱਚੇ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਸੁਣੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੰ ਏਕੈ ਸੂਤਿ ਹੈ ਜਹਾਨੰ ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਬਡੇ ਤੇ ਬਡਾਨੰ ॥
man Dhan tayro paraanaN aykai soot hai jahaanaN kavan upmaa day-o baday tay badaanaN.
O’ God, my mind, body and life-breath, all belong to You, the entire world runs by Your one law; which of Your glories may I describe, You are the greatest of the great?
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ, ਧਨ ਅਤੇਪ੍ਰਾਣ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ (ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਹਨ। ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਸੱਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਵੜਿਆਈ ਕਰਾਂ? ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਾਨੈ ਕਉਨੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਭੇਉ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ਦੇਉ ਅਕਲ ਕਲਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਧਾਨੰ ॥
jaanai ka-un tayro bhay-o alakh apaar day-o akal kalaa hai parabh sarab ko DhaanaN.
O’ unfathomable and infinite God, who can know Your mystery? Your Power is pervading equally everywhere, and You are the support of all.
ਹੇ ਅਲੱਖ, ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਭੇਦ ਕੌਣ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?ਤੇਰੀ ਸੱਤਾ (ਸਭ ਥਾਂ) ਇੱਕ-ਰਸ ਹੈ; ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਤੁਲਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਏਕ ਜੀਹ ਕਿਆ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥

ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
haaN ke bal bal bal bal sad balihaar. ||4||

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰ ਅਛਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥
nirankaar aakaar achhal pooran abhinaasee.
O’ God, You have no form, and yet are in every form; You are undeceivable, perfect, and eternal.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਰੂਪ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ ਹੈਂ; ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਛਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ,
ਹਰਖਵੰਤ ਆਨੰਤ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਿਗਾਸੀ ॥
harakhvant aanant roop nirmal bigaasee.
You are always in bliss, You have limitless forms, You are immaculate and always delightful.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਸੁੱਧ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਖਿੜਾਓ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅੰਤੁ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਸੀ ॥
gun gaavahi bay-ant ant ik til nahee paasee.
Countless are those who sing Your praises, but they cannot find even a little bit of Your limit.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੋਂਹਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੁ ਜਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਸੀ ॥
jaa ka-o hoNhi kirpaal so jan parabh tumeh milaasee.
O’ God, upon whom You bestow mercy, only that devotee unites with You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨ ਜਿਹ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਯਉ ॥
Dhan Dhan tay Dhan jan jih kirpaal har har bha-ya-o.
Blessed are those fortunate people upon whom God has become kind.
ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨ ਪਰਸਿਅਉ ਸਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਹ ਥੇ ਰਹਿਓ ॥੫॥
har gur naanak jin parsi-o se janam maran duh thay rahi-o. ||5||
Those who have met and followed the teachings of Guru Nanak, the embodiment of God, have been saved both from birth and death. ||5||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਸਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥
ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤੇ ਸਤਿ ਭਣੀਐ ॥
sat sat har sat sat satay sat bhanee-ai.
All (the sages have always been saying) that God is eternal.
ਮਹਾਤਮਾ ਲੋਕ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਹਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ;
ਦੂਸਰ ਆਨ ਨ ਅਵਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਊਰਾਤਨੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ॥
doosar aan na avar purakh pa-uraatan sunee-ai.
God is said to be the primal Being (who has existed before the beginning of time) and there is none other like Him.
ਉਹ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਣੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਹੈ,) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਉਹਦੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਮਨਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ॥
amrit har ko naam lait man sabh sukh paa-ay.
Those who have recited the ambrosial Name of God, they have received all kinds of comforts and peace of mind.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਲੱਭ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਜੇਹ ਰਸਨ ਚਾਖਿਓ ਤੇਹ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ॥
jayh rasan chaakhi-o tayh jan taripat aghaa-ay.
Those who have tasted the nectar of Naam with their tongue, they have been satiated from the worldly desires.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ) ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੱਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਹੋਰ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂਘ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ)।
ਜਿਹ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੁ ਭਯੋੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਿਹ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
jih thaakur suparsan bha-yo satsangat tih pi-aar.
Those with whom the Master-God is pleased, are in love with the holy congregation.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ (ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਪਰਸਿਓ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਸਭ ਕੁਲ ਕੀਓ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
har gur naanak jinH parsi-o tinH sabh kul kee-o uDhaar. ||6||
Those who have humbly followed the teachings of Guru Nanak, the embodiment of God, have emancipated their entire lineage. ||6||
ਹਰੀ-ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਸਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਬੇੜਾ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਚੁ ਸਭਾ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਪਹਿ ਧਰਿਓ ॥
sach sabhaa deebaan sach sachay peh Dhari-o.
Eternal is God’s court and congregation; God has entrusted Himself to the true Guru (God can be realized only through the true Guru).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹੈ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂਨੇ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ-ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ; (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਸਚੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਕਰਿਓ ॥
sachai takhat nivaas sach tapaavas kari-o.
God abides on the eternal throne and administers true justice.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਸਣ ਹੈ ਤੇ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੱਚਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਿ ਸਿਰਜੵਿਉ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਆਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੁਲਉ ॥
sach sirji-ya-o sansaar aap aabhul na bhula-o.
The eternal God has created this universe, He is infallible and never makes any mistakes.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਭੁੱਲਣਹਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕਦੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਰਤਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਕੀਮ ਨਹੁ ਪਵੈ ਅਮੁਲਉ ॥
ratan naam apaar keem nahu pavai amula-o.
The Name of the infinite God is sublime, it is priceless and it’s worth cannot be established.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ, ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਿਹ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਯਉ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦੁ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਤਿਨਹੂ ਪਾਏ ॥
jih kirpaal ho-ya-o gobind sarab sukh tinhoo paa-ay.
Those on whom God, the Master of the universe, has become kind have received all comforts and inner peace.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਪਰਸਿਓ ਤੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਏ ॥੭॥
har gur naanak jinH parsi-o tay bahurh fir jon na aa-ay. ||7||
Those who have met and followed the teachings of Guru Nanak, the embodiment of God, did not enter the cycle of reincarnation ever again. ||7
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਸਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਪਰਤ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ (ਮਰਣ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਏ॥੭॥
ਕਵਨੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਗੵਾਨੁ ਧੵਾਨੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਉਸ੍ਤਤਿ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
kavan jog ka-un ga-yaan Dhayaan kavan biDh ustat karee-ai.
(I don’t know) through what kind of yoga, which knowledge, meditation, orwhich way we should utter God’s praises?
ਕਿਹੜਾ ਜੋਗ (ਦਾ ਸਾਧਨ) ਕਰੀਏ? ਕਿਹੜਾ ਗਿਆਨ (ਵਿਚਾਰੀਏ)? ਕਿਹੜਾ ਧਿਆਨ (ਧਰੀਏ)? ਉਹ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਵਰਤੀਏ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕੀਏ?
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕੋਰਿ ਤਿਰੁ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਰੀਐ ॥
siDh saaDhik taytees kor tir keem na paree-ai.
The adepts, seekers, and millions of gods have not been able to find even a tiny bit of God’s worth.
ਸਿੱਧ, ਸਾਧਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਤੀ ਕਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਭੀ) ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਿਆ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਸਨਕਾਦਿ ਸੇਖ ਗੁਣ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
barahmaadik sankaad saykh gun ant na paa-ay.
The gods like Brahma, Sanak and other sons of Brahma, and the mythical Shesh Nag (cobra) have not been able to find the limits of God’s virtues.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਵਤੇ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ) ਸਨਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕੇ।
ਅਗਹੁ ਗਹਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਪੂਰਿ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
agahu gahi-o nahee jaa-ay poor sarab rahi-o samaa-ay.
The incomprehensible God cannot be comprehended, even though He is permeating everywhere and is pervading amongst all.
ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਹ ਕਾਟੀ ਸਿਲਕ ਦਯਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸੇਇ ਜਨ ਲਗੇ ਭਗਤੇ ॥
jih kaatee silak da-yaal parabh say-ay jan lagay bhagtay.
Those devotees, whose noose of worldly attachment has been cut off by the merciful God, are attached to His devotional worship.
ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਪਰਸਿਓ ਤੇ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੇ ॥੮॥
har gur naanak jinH parsi-o tay it ut sadaa muktay. ||8||
Those who have met and have followed the teachings of Guru Nanak, the embodiment of God, are freed from the bonds of Maya forever, both here and hereafter. ||8||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਸਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਤਉ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪਰੵਿਉ ਜਾਚਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
parabh daata-o daataar pari-ya-o jaachak ik sarnaa.
O’ God, the giver and the benefactor! I, a beggar, have come to Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਦਾਤੇ! ਹੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਮੰਗਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ,
ਮਿਲੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨ ਜੇਹ ਲਗਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰਨਾ ॥
milai daan sant rayn jayh lag bha-ojal tarnaa.
I wish to receive the gift of the humble service of the saints, through which I may cross over the world-ocean of vices.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਕਿ ਇਸ ਧੂੜ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਾਂ।
ਬਿਨਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਜੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
binat kara-o ardaas sunhu jay thaakur bhaavai.
O’ God! I make this submission! if it pleases You, listen to my prayer,
ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ) ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ, ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
