ਸਸੁਰੈ ਪੇਈਐ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੰਤ ਕੀ ਵਡਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
sasurai pay-ee-ai tis kant kee vadaa jis parvaar.
In this world and in the next, the soul-bride can live only on the support of her Husband God, Who has such a vast family.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧ ਕਿਛੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
oochaa agam agaaDh boDh kichh ant na paaraavaar
He is the highest of the high and Inaccessible. His Wisdom is Unfathomable. There is no end or limit to His expanse.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਅਥਾਹ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਰਲਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
sayvaa saa tis bhaavsee santaa kee ho-ay chha.
He is the Patron of the poor, the Merciful, Luminous God and the Redeemer of sinners.
ਉਹ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ-ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦੈਆਲ ਦੇਵ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
deenaa naath dai-aal dayv patit uDhaaranhaar.
The merciful God is the patron of the poor, and the redeemer of the sinners.
ਉਹ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ-ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਰਖਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
aad jugaadee rakh-daa sach naam kartaar.
From the very beginning, and throughout the ages, the True Name of the Creator has been our Saving Grace.
ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ) ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
keemat ko-ay na jaan-ee ko naahee tolanhaar.
No one knows His worth; nobody can estimate His greatness.
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥
man tan antar vas rahay naanak nahee sumaar.
O’ Nanak, He dwells within everyone’s mind and body. His virtues are infinite.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੰਉ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥
din rain je parabh kaN-u sayvday tin kai sad balihaar. ||2||
I am forever a sacrifice to those who remember God, day and night.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸੰਤ ਅਰਾਧਨਿ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥
sant araaDhan sad sadaa sabhnaa kaa bakhsind.
The Saints always remember Him with loving devotion; He is gracious to all.
ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਰਾਧਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਿਤੀਨੁ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥
jee-o pind jin saaji-aa kar kirpaa diteen jind.
He fashioned the soul and the body, and by His Kindness, He bestowed the soul.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਸਾਜੀ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤੁ ॥
gur sabdee aaraaDhee-ai japee-ai nirmal mant.
Through the Guru’s word, we should meditate on God with loving devotion, and recite the immaculate Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ॥
keemat kahan na jaa-ee-ai parmaysur bay-ant.
He is infinite, His worth cannot be estimated and there is no limit to His virtues.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਰਾਇਣੋ ਸੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥
jis man vasai naaraa-ino so kahee-ai bhagvant.
That one, within whose mind God dwells, is said to be most fortunate.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸ ਜਾਵੇ, ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰੀਐ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੰਤੁ ॥
jee-a kee lochaa pooree-ai milai su-aamee kant.
The soul’s desires are fulfilled, upon realizing our Master-God.
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਪਤੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਰੀ ਦੋਖ ਸਭੇ ਹੀ ਹੰਤੁ ॥
naanak jeevai jap haree dokh sabhay hee hant.
Nanak lives by meditating on God; by which all his sorrows have been erased.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੰਤੁ ॥੩॥
din rain jis na visrai so hari-aa hovai jant. ||3||
One, who does not forget Him day and night, he is continually rejuvenated.
ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈl
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰਣੋ ਮੰਞੁ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਥਾਉ ॥
sarab kalaa parabh poorno manj nimaanee thaa-o.
O’ God, You are full of all the powers. You are the only support of the supportless like me.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰੇ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਉ ॥
har ot gahee man andray jap jap jeevaaN naa-o.
I have enshrined Your support within my mind, and I survive only by meditating again and again on Your Name.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਨ ਧੂੜੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh aapnee jan Dhoorhee sang samaa-o.
O’ God, please bestow mercy upon me, that I may remain humbly absorbed in the service of Your devotees.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਪੈਨਾ ਖਾਉ ॥
ji-o tooN raakhahi ti-o rahaa tayraa ditaa painaa khaa-o.
I may happily live in whatever condition You keep me, and gratefully consume whatever You give me.
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਰਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੰਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਤੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਉਦਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
udam so-ee karaa-ay parabh mil saaDhoo gun gaa-o.
O’ God, please make me do only that effort by virtue of which I may sing Your Glorious Praises in the company of the Holy Saints.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਾ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਦੂਜੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਕਿਥੈ ਕੂਕਣ ਜਾਉ ॥
doojee jaa-ay na sujh-ee kithai kookan jaa-o.
I can conceive of no other place; where could I go to relate my cries of distress.?
(ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ। ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਫਰਿਆਦ ਕਰਾਂ?
ਅਗਿਆਨ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਤਮ ਹਰਣ ਊਚੇ ਅਗਮ ਅਮਾਉ ॥
agi-aan binaasan tam haran oochay agam amaa-o.
O’ Great, Unfathomable and Unapproachable God, You are the Dispeller of ignorance of darkness.
ਹੇ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ, ਤੇ ਅਮਿੱਤ ਹਰੀ!
ਮਨੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਹੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
man vichhurhi-aa har maylee-ai naanak ayhu su-aa-o.
Please unite this separated one with Yourself; this is Nanak’s yearning.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ) ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣਾ ਤਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਰਸੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਉ ॥੪॥੧॥
sarab kali-aanaa tit din har parsee gur kay paa-o. ||4||1||
O’ God, the day I humbly surrender to the Guru, I would obtain all kind of Joys (it will be the day of my total deliverance).
ਉਹ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਸਮੁਹ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ, ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਕੜਾਗਾਂ।
ਵਾਰ ਮਾਝ ਕੀ ਤਥਾ ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਮਲਕ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਤਥਾ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਹੜਾ ਸੋਹੀਆ ਕੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਗਾਵਣੀ ॥

Maajh Kee Vaar, and Shloks of the First Guru: To be sung to the tune of “Malik Mureed And Chandrahara Sohee-aa”.
ਇਹ ਮਾਝ ਦੀ ਵਾਰ ਉਸ ਧੁਨੀ (ਸੁਰ) ਵਿਚ ਗਾਉਣੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਖਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਗਾਵੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar sat naam kartaa purakh gur parsaad.
One God. Eternal. Creator, all pervading. Realized by the Guru’s Grace:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Shalok, by the First Guru:
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਿਵੈ ਘਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਤਿਹ ਲੋਇ ॥
gur daataa gur hivai ghar gur deepak tih lo-ay.
The Guru is the Giver of Naam; the Guru is the sublime source of peace. The Guru provides light (the divine knowledge) to all the three worlds.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਠੰਡ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਕੀ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਮਰ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
amar padaarath naankaa man maanee-ai sukh ho-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, everlasting wealth of Naam is obtained from the Guru. When we become believers , we obtain peace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਏ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l

Shalok, by the First Guru:
ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਿਆਰਿ ਲਗਾ ਥਣ ਦੁਧਿ ॥
pahilai pi-aar lagaa than duDh.
First, the baby loves mother’s milk;
ਪਹਿਲੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ) ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਦੂਜੈ ਮਾਇ ਬਾਪ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ॥
doojai maa-ay baap kee suDh.
second, he learns of his mother and father;
ਦੂਜੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਦੋਂ ਰਤਾ ਕੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਿਉ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤੀਜੈ ਭਯਾ ਭਾਭੀ ਬੇਬ ॥
teejai bha-yaa bhaabhee bayb.
third, his brothers, sisters-in-law and sisters;
ਤੀਜੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਅਪੜਿਆਂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਭਰਾ ਭਾਈ ਤੇ ਭੈਣ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਚਉਥੈ ਪਿਆਰਿ ਉਪੰਨੀ ਖੇਡ ॥
cha-uthai pi-aar upannee khayd.
fourth, the love of play awakens.
ਚੌਥੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵੇਲੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਖੇਡਣ ਦੀ ਰੁਚੀ) ਉਪਜਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਪੰਜਵੈ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਅਣ ਕੀ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
punjvai khaan pee-an kee Dhaat.
Fifth, he runs after food and drink;
ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਛਿਵੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
chhivai kaam na puchhai jaat.

ਛੇਵੀਂ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਅੱਪੜ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਕਾਮ (ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਜਾਤਿ ਕੁਜਾਤਿ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ।
ਸਤਵੈ ਸੰਜਿ ਕੀਆ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
satvai sanj kee-aa ghar vaas.

ਸਤਵੀਂ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵੇਲੇ (ਜੀਵ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਘਰ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਬਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਅਠਵੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਹੋਆ ਤਨ ਨਾਸੁ ॥
athvai kroDh ho-aa tan naas.

ਅਠਵੀਂ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਗੁੱਸਾ (ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਵੈ ਧਉਲੇ ਉਭੇ ਸਾਹ ॥
naavai Dha-ulay ubhay saah.
Ninth, he turns grey (becomes old), and his breathing becomes labored;
(ਉਮਰ ਦੇ) ਨਾਂਵੇਂ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੇਸ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਹ ਖਿੱਚ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਦਸਵੈ ਦਧਾ ਹੋਆ ਸੁਆਹ ॥
dasvai daDhaa ho-aa su-aah.
tenth, he dies, cremated, and turns to ashes.
ਦਸਵੇਂ ਦਰਜੇ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਏ ਸਿਗੀਤ ਪੁਕਾਰੀ ਧਾਹ ॥
ga-ay sigeet pukaaree Dhaah
His companions send him off, crying out and lamenting.
ਜੋ ਸਾਥੀ ਮਸਾਣਾਂ ਤਕ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਢਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਉਡਿਆ ਹੰਸੁ ਦਸਾਏ ਰਾਹ ॥
udi-aa hans dasaa-ay raah.
The soul flies away on an unknown path.
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ (ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ (ਅਗਾਂਹ ਦੇ) ਰਾਹ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹੈ।
