ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨ ਮੋਹੀਐ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ॥
kaam karoDh na mohee-ai binsai lobh su-aan.
Lust and anger shall not seduce you, and the dog like greed shall depart.
ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਦਾ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
ਸਚੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਹਾਨੁ ॥
sachai maarag chaldi-aa ustat karay jahaan.
Those who walk on the Path of Truth shall be praised throughout the world.
ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਟੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਗਲ ਪੁੰਨ ਜੀਅ ਦਇਆ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
athsath tirath sagal punn jee-a da-i-aa parvaan.
All the poise acts like bathing at all the sacred shrines, giving of charity and compassion on the creatures are all included in the merits of remembering God.
ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰਮ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨੀ ਜੋ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਸੋਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥
jis no dayvai da-i-aa kar so-ee purakh sujaan.
That one alone is truly wise whom God in His mercy blesses with gift of meditating on God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
jinaa mili-aa parabh aapnaa naanak tin kurbaan.
O’ Nanak, I dedicate myself to those who have realized God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਮਾਘਿ ਸੁਚੇ ਸੇ ਕਾਂਢੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੧੨॥
maagh suchay say kaaNdhee-ah jin pooraa gur miharvaan. ||12||
In Magh, they alone are considered pure on whom the Perfect Guru is Merciful.
ਮਾਘ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਆਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਫਲਗੁਣਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਉਪਾਰਜਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਆਇ ॥
fulgun anand upaarjanaa har sajan pargatay aa-ay.
In the month of Phalgun, unique spiritual bliss arises in the minds of those in whose heart their dearest friend, God has come and become manifest.
ਫੱਗਣ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਜਣ-ਹਰੀ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
sant sahaa-ee raam kay kar kirpaa dee-aa milaa-ay.
The saints, the helpers of God, showing mercy, help them realize God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਹੁਣਿ ਦੁਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
sayj suhaavee sarab sukh hun dukhaa naahee jaa-ay.
Their heart is at peace, they enjoy all comforts and there is no place for any sorrow.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਸੇਜ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਫਿਰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਤੇ ਰਤਾ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਇਛ ਪੁਨੀ ਵਡਭਾਗਣੀ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
ichh punee vadbhaagnee var paa-i-aa har raa-ay.
The heart-felt desire of such fortunate souls get fulfilled when they realize their true friend, God.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖਸਮ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਹੀਆ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਵਹੀ ਗੀਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਅਲਾਇ ॥
mil sahee-aa mangal gaavhee geet govind alaa-ay.
Joining together with their friends, they recite songs in praise of God.
ਉਹ ਸਤ-ਸੰਗੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੇਹਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦਿਸਈ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਇ ॥
har jayhaa avar na dis-ee ko-ee doojaa lavai na laa-ay.
There is no one other like God, they do not see anyone equal to Him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਓਨੁ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
halat palat savaari-on nihchal ditee-an jaa-ay.
God has embellished them in this world and the world hereafter, and has given them an eternal place (at His abode).
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ-ਲੀਨਤਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਐਸੀ ਥਾਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੇ ਰਖਿਅਨੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜਨਮੈ ਧਾਇ ॥
sansaar saagar tay rakhi-an bahurh na janmai Dhaa-ay.
He has saved them from drowning in the worldly-ocean of vices and they would not have to suffer through the cycles of birth and death.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਰੱਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ ਭੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਗੁਣ ਤਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਰਣੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
jihvaa ayk anayk gun taray naanak charnee paa-ay.
O’ Nanak, we have only one tongue but Your Virtues are countless. Those who remember You with utmost humility, swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਡੀ ਇਕ ਜੀਭ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ l ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਫਲਗੁਣਿ ਨਿਤ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
fulgun nit salaahee-ai jis no til na tamaa-ay. ||13||
In Phalgun, praise Him continually; He has not even an iota of greed.
ਫੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਭੋਰਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸਰੇ ॥
jin jin naam Dhi-aa-i-aa tin kay kaaj saray.
Whosoever has meditated on Naam has accomplished all their tasks.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸੌਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਸਚਿ ਖਰੇ ॥
har gur pooraa aaraaDhi-aa dargeh sach kharay.
Those who follow the perfect Guru and lovingly worship God are judged true in God’s court.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਚਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਤਰੇ ॥
sarab sukhaa niDh charan har bha-ojal bikham taray.
God’s lotus feet (His devoted meditation) are the treasure of joy and peace. They who attune themselves to God cross over the dreadful worldly ocean of vices.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਔਖੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਹੀ-ਸਲਾਮਤ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਹਿ ਜਰੇ ॥
paraym bhagat tin paa-ee-aa bikhi-aa naahi jaray.
They obtain the gift of God’s loving devotion, and do not suffer in the desire for the poison of Maya (worldly riches and powers).
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੜਦੇ।
ਕੂੜ ਗਏ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨਸੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਚਿ ਭਰੇ ॥
koorh ga-ay dubiDhaa nasee pooran sach bharay.
All their falsehood has vanished, duality has been erased, and they remain totally attuned to the eternal God.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਰੇ ॥
paarbarahm parabh sayvday man andar ayk Dharay.
Enshrining God in their mind, they keep remembering Him with loving devotion.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਹ ਦਿਵਸ ਮੂਰਤ ਭਲੇ ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
maah divas moorat bhalay jis ka-o nadar karay.
All the months, the days, and the moments are auspicious, for those upon whom God casts His Glance of Grace.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ, ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਸੁਲੱਖਣੇ ਹਨ l
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਰਸ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰੇ ॥੧੪॥੧॥
naanak mangai daras daan kirpaa karahu haray. ||14||1||
O’ God, Nanak begs for the blessing of Your Vision. Please, shower Your Mercy upon me!

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God. realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਵੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੀ ਦਿਨ ਸਭਿ ਰੈਣ ॥
sayvee satgur aapnaa har simree din sabh rain.
I pray that, by following the teachings of my true Guru and meditate on God with loving devotion for all the days and nights of my life.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਵਾਂ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਰਾਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਾ l
ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਵਾਂ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੀ ਮਿਠੜੇ ਵੈਣ ॥
aap ti-aag sarnee pavaaN mukh bolee mith-rhay vain.
Renouncing selfishness and conceit, I may seek the Sanctuary of my Guru, and speak sweet words to Him,
ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ (ਹਉਮੈ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ, ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਹ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਾਂ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸਜਣੁ ਸੈਣ ॥
janam janam kaa vichhurhi-aa har maylhu sajan sain.
and request him to unite me with my closest friend, God, from whom I have been separated for many births.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਜਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਹ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਜੀਅ ਹਰਿ ਤੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਸੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਨ ਵਸਨਿ ਭੈਣ ॥
jo jee-a har tay vichhurhay say sukh na vasan bhain.
O my sister, those who remain separated from God are not able to live in peace.
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਹਰਿ ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਚੈਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਖੋਜਿ ਡਿਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਗੈਣ ॥
har pir bin chain na paa-ee-ai khoj dithay sabh gain.
Without the Husband-God, there is no peace and comfort. I have searched and seen all the realms.
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ (ਧਰਤੀ) ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਖੋਜ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਪ ਕਮਾਣੈ ਵਿਛੁੜੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਦੇਣ ॥
aap kamaanai vichhurhee dos na kaahoo dayn.
My own evil actions have kept me separate from Him; why should I accuse anyone else?
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਾਂ l ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਲਜਾਮ ਕਿਉਂ ਲਾਵਾਂ ?
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੇਣ ॥

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਖਾਕੂ ਰੂਲਣਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਥੈ ਵੈਣ ॥
har tuDh vin khaakoo roolnaa kahee-ai kithai vain.
O’ God, without You we suffer so much pain and humiliation as if we are rolling in dust. To whom else could we relate our cries of distress? .
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਲ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਇਸ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਕੀਰਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੀਏ?
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਰਜਨੁ ਦੇਖਾ ਨੈਣ ॥੧॥
naanak kee banantee-aa har surjan daykhaa nain. ||1||
This is Nanak’s prayer: that I may realize God within myself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਉਸ ਉੱਤਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਾਂ l
ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸੋ ਸੁਣੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
jee-a kee birthaa so sunay har sammrith purakh apaar.
The all powerful, infinite and all pervading God does listen to our anguish.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ-ਦਰਦ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਰਣਿ ਜੀਵਣਿ ਆਰਾਧਣਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
maran jeevan aaraaDhanaa sabhnaa kaa aaDhaar.
We ought to remember Him with loving devotion throughout our life (birth to death), because He is the sustainer of all the creatures.
ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਉਮਰ ਉਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
