ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਰਣੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਰਮ ਜਿ ਪੂਰਣਹ ॥
barahmaneh sang uDharnaN barahm karam je poornah.
A person can be emancipated in the company of a true Brahmin who is perfect in doing spiritual deeds i.e. remembering Naam with passion and love.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੀ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ) ਉੱਧਾਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਤਮ ਰਤੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਗਹੰ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਹਫਲਹ ॥੬੫॥
aatam rataN sansaar gahaN tay nar naanak nihfaleh. ||65||
But O’ Nanak, those whose minds are imbued with the love of worldly attachments, depart from this world after leading a fruitless life. ||65||
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਸਫਲ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬੫॥
ਪਰ ਦਰਬ ਹਿਰਣੰ ਬਹੁ ਵਿਘਨ ਕਰਣੰ ਉਚਰਣੰ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਕਹ ॥
par darab hirnaN baho vighan karnaN ucharnaN sarab jee-a kah.
Those who usurp other’s wealth and create all sorts of problems in other’s life, all what they preach to others is for their own livelihood.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਚੁਰਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੋੜਾ ਅਟਕਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਪਜੀਵਕਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੈ l
ਲਉ ਲਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਤਿਪਤਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਏ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਸਿ ਸੂਕਰਹ ॥੬੬॥
la-o la-ee tarisnaa atipat man maa-ay karam karat se sookrah. ||66||
The hunger for materialism is always in their mind, they have fierce desire to acquire more and more wealth and act like pigs by doing filthy deeds. ||66||
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਸਦਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਹੈ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰ ਮਾਇਆ) ਲੈ ਲਵਾਂ ਲੈ ਲਵਾਂ (ਹੀ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਸੂਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬੬॥
ਮਤੇ ਸਮੇਵ ਚਰਣੰ ਉਧਰਣੰ ਭੈ ਦੁਤਰਹ ॥
matay samayv charnaN uDharnaN bhai dutrah.
Those who remain elated with the love of God’s Name, swim across the dreadful world-ocean of vices which is difficult to cross.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਤਰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨੇਕ ਪਾਤਿਕ ਹਰਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮ ਨ ਸੰਸਯਹ ॥੬੭॥੪॥
anayk paatik harnaN naanak saaDh sangam na sansyah. ||67||4||
O’ Nanak, there is not an iota of doubt that our innumerable sins are eradicated in the company of such holy persons. ||67||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਵਿਚ (ਰਤਾ ਭੀ) ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ॥੬੭॥੪॥

Fifth Guru, Gaat’haa (God’s praises):
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਪੂਰ ਪੁਹਪ ਸੁਗੰਧਾ ਪਰਸ ਮਾਨੁਖੵ ਦੇਹੰ ਮਲੀਣੰ ॥
karpoor puhap suganDhaa paras manukh-y dayhaN maleenaN.
Camphor, flowers and perfume become filthy by coming in contact with the human body.
ਮੁਸ਼ਕ-ਕਪੂਰ, ਫੁੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਮੈਲੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਮਜਾ ਰੁਧਿਰ ਦ੍ਰੁਗੰਧਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਥਿ ਗਰਬੇਣ ਅਗੵਾਨਣੋ ॥੧॥
majaa ruDhir daruganDhaa naanak ath garbayn agyaanano. ||1||
The human body contains bone marrow, blood, and many foul smelling things, but O’ Nanak, still the ignorant man takes egotistical pride in it. ||1||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿੱਝ ਲਹੂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੁਰਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਹਨ; ਫਿਰ ਭੀ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪਰਮਾਣੋ ਪਰਜੰਤ ਆਕਾਸਹ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਸਿਖੰਡਣਹ ॥
parmaano parjant aakaaseh deep lo-a sikhandnah.
Even if the mortal becomes tiny as an atom and rushes through the skies, continents, worlds and mountains-
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਤ ਛੋਟਾ ਅਣੂ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਤਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੀਪਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਉਪਰ ਹੋ ਆਵੇ,
ਗਛੇਣ ਨੈਣ ਭਾਰੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਨ ਸਿਧੵਤੇ ॥੨॥
gachhayn nain bhaarayn naanak binaa saaDhoo na siDh-yatai. ||2||
-in the blink of an eye, O’ Nanak even then, he cannot achieve the life’s objective without the Guru. ||2||
ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਆਵੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਜਾਣੋ ਸਤਿ ਹੋਵੰਤੋ ਮਰਣੋ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਣ ਮਿਥਿਆ ॥
jaano sat hovanto marno daristayn mithi-aa.
We should understand that death is inevitable, and whatever is visible in this world is illusary or perishable.
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਆਉਣਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਸਮਝਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਥਿ ਚਲੰਥੋ ਭਣੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ॥੩॥
keerat saath chalantho bhanant naanak saaDh sangayn. ||3||
Nanak says, only the praises of God done in the company of saints accompanies a person in the end. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਯਾ ਚਿਤ ਭਰਮੇਣ ਇਸਟ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੇਖੁ ਬਾਂਧਵਹ ॥
maa-yaa chit bharmayn isat mitraykh baaNDhvah.
May a, the worldly attachment, makes one’s mind wander in love for dear friends, and relatives.
ਮਾਇਆ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਲਬਧੵੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਅਸਥਾਨੰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਭਜਣੰ ॥੪॥
labDha-yaN saaDh sangayn naanak sukh asthaanaN gopaal bhajnaN. ||4||
O’ Nanak, the real place to find inner peace, is the holy company where God is remembered with loving devotion. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ (ਕੇਵਲ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੪॥
ਮੈਲਾਗਰ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਿੰਮੁ ਬਿਰਖ ਸਿ ਚੰਦਨਹ ॥
mailaagar sangayn nimm birakh se chandnah.
Even the very bitter Neem tree growing near the sandal tree, becomes fragrant like sandalwood,
ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਨਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬਸੰਤੋ ਬਾਂਸੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਹੰ ਬੁਧਿ ਨ ਬੋਹਤੇ ॥੫॥
nikat basanto baaNso naanak ahaN buDh na bohtay. ||5||
O’ Nanak, but a bamboo tree growing near a sandal tree does not become fragrant because of its stiffness, (similarly an egotistical person does not become humble even in the company of saints) ||5||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਚੰਦਨ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਬਾਂਸ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਕੜ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ ॥੫॥
ਗਾਥਾ ਗੁੰਫ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕਥੰ ਮਥੰ ਮਾਨ ਮਰਦਨਹ ॥
gaathaa gunf gopaal kathaN mathaN maan maradneh.
Weaving tales (singing) of God’s praises destroys a person’s egotism.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਗੁੰਦਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਤੰ ਪੰਚ ਸਤ੍ਰੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਣਹ ॥੬॥
hataN panch satrayn naanak har baanay par-haarneh. ||6||
O’ Nanak, all the five enemies (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego) are destroyed by attacking with the arrows of God’s praises. ||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦਾ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਇਆਂ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਬਚਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੁਖ ਪੰਥਾ ਲਹੰਥਾ ਬਡ ਕਰਮਣਹ ॥
bachan saaDh sukh panthaa lahanthaa bad karameh.
The Guru’s words of God’s praises are the path to inner peace, but they are attained only by good fortune.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ) ਬਚਨ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਬਚਨ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਹੰਤਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੇਨ ਰਮਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥੭॥
rahantaa janam marnayn ramnaN naanak har keeratneh. ||7||
O’ Nanak, by singing God’s praises, one’s cycle of birth and death ends. ||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਪਤ੍ਰ ਭੁਰਿਜੇਣ ਝੜੀਯੰ ਨਹ ਜੜੀਅੰ ਪੇਡ ਸੰਪਤਾ ॥
patar bhurijayn jharhee-yaN nah jarhee-aN payd sapantaa.
Just as the withered leaves fall from the tree, and cannot be attached again to the branches of that tree,
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰੁਖ ਦੇ) ਪੱਤ੍ਰ ਭੁਰ ਭੁਰ ਕੇ (ਰੁੱਖ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਝੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਰੁੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਬਿਖਮਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਹੰਤਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਬਾਸਰੋ ਰੈਣੀ ॥੮॥
naam bihoon bikhmataa naanak bahant jon baasro rainee. ||8||
O’ Nanak, similarly people bereft of Naam always endure misery and wander through many incarnations. ||8||
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
ਭਾਵਨੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਲਭੰਤੰ ਬਡ ਭਾਗਣਹ ॥
bhaavnee saaDh sangayn labhaNtaN bad bhaagnah.
The faith in God’s Name is attained by joining the holy company through good fortune only.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ) ਸਰਧਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਹ ਬਿਆਪਣਹ ॥੯॥
har naam gun ramnaN naanak sansaar saagar nah bi-aapneh. ||9||
O’ Nanak, by remembering God’s Name and singing His praises with adoration, a person is not affected by the sufferings of the worldly ocean of vices. ||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਦੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪ ਸਕਦੇ| ॥੯॥
ਗਾਥਾ ਗੂੜ ਅਪਾਰੰ ਸਮਝਣੰ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਜਨਹ ॥
gaathaa goorh apaaraN samjhanaN birlaa janah.
Singing the praises of the infinite God is profound and deep, and only a rare person understands it.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਇਕ ਡੂੰਘੀ (ਰਮਜ਼ ਵਾਲਾ) ਕੰਮ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕਾਮ ਤਜਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਮਣੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮਹ ॥੧੦॥
sansaar kaam tajnaN naanak gobind ramnaN saaDh sangmah. ||10||
O’ Nanak, the yearning for the worldly desires can be renounced by singing God’s praises in the holy congregation. ||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਨਾਂ ਤਿਆਗੀਆਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧੦॥
ਸੁਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਧ ਬਚਨਾ ਕੋਟਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨਹ ॥
sumantar saaDh bachnaa kot dokh binaasneh.
The Guru’s words are such sublime mantras that they destroy millions of sins.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ (ਐਸੇ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ (ਜੋ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਧੵਾਨੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਧਾਰਣਹ ॥੧੧॥
har charan kamal Dha-yaana naanak kul samooh uDhaarneh. ||11||
O’ Nanak, all the generations of a person are emancipated by focusing on God’s immaculate Name. ||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਉੱਧਾਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਸੈਣਹ ਜੇਣ ਮਧੵ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥
sundar mandar sainah jayn maDh-y har keeratneh.
It is really pleasant to live in those houses, where God’s praises are sung.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਰਮਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਬਧੵੰ ਬਡ ਭਾਗਣਹ ॥੧੨॥
muktay raman gobindah naanak labDha-yaN bad bhaagnah. ||12||
O’ Nanak, those who remember God with adoration are emancipated, but this gift of remembering God is received only through good fortune. ||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ,(ਇਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਲਬਧੋ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਮਿਤੋ ॥
har labDho mitar sumito.
I have realized God, my best friend,
ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਦਾਰਣ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚਿਤੋ ॥
bidaaran kaday na chito.
who never breaks my heart,
ਜੋ ਕਦੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਦਿਲ-ਸ਼ਿਕਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ,
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਅਸਥਲੁ ਤੋਲੁ ਅਮਿਤੋ ॥
jaa kaa asthal tol amito.
and the worth of whose abode is beyond estimation,
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਅਮਿਣਵੇਂ ਤੋਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋੁਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਖਾ ਜੀਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਤੋ ॥੧੩॥
so-ee naanak sakhaa jee-a sang kito. ||13||
O’ Nanak, I have made Him as the companion of my soul. ||13||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਅਪਜਸੰ ਮਿਟੰਤ ਸਤ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਹ ॥
apjasaN mitant sat putreh.
The bad reputation of a family is eradicated with the birth of a worthy son,
ਚੰਗਾ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਜੰਮ ਪੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਲ ਦੀ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਕੋਈ) ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਧੁਪ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਿਮਰਤਬੵ ਰਿਦੈ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਣਹ ॥
simartab-y ridai gur mantarneh.
because he keeps the Guru’s teaching enshrined in his heart.
ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ l
