ਆਪੇ ਊਚਾ ਊਚੋ ਹੋਈ ॥
aapay oochaa oocho ho-ee.
He Himself is the Highest of the High.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨਾਲ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ) ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਖਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jis aap vikhaalay so vaykhai ko-ee.
Only that rare person is able to have His vision, whom He reveals Himself.
ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਇਹ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਵਿਖਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਵੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਖਾਲਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੬॥੨੭॥
naanak naam vasai ghat antar aapay vaykh vikhaalani-aa. ||8||26||27||
O’ Nanak, when God’s Name comes to abide in some one’s heart, that person himself realizes God, and reveals Him to others
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ॥
mayraa parabh bharpoor rahi-aa sabh thaa-ee.
My God is pervading everywhere.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee ghar hee meh paa-ee.
By Guru’s Grace, I have found Him within my own heart.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਰੇਵੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sadaa sarayvee ik man Dhi-aa-ee gurmukh sach samaavani-aa. ||1||
I always remember and worship Him with single-minded concentration. By the Guru’s grace I remain absorbed in the eternal God.
ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਾ ਇਕਾਗਰ ਮਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree jagjeevan man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who enshrine God, the Life of the universe, in their minds.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jagjeevan nirbha-o daataa gurmat sahj samaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s teachings, I merge with intuitive ease in God, the Life of the World, the Fearless One and the Great Giver.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲੁ ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ॥
ghar meh Dhartee Dha-ul paataalaa.
God who supports this earth, (the mythical Bull), and the nether-regions of the world, resides within the heart of the mortals
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
ghar hee meh pareetam sadaa hai baalaa.
Within every heart dwells the Eternally Young Beloved God.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਜਵਾਨ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
sadaa anand rahai sukh-daata gurmat sahj samaavani-aa. ||2||
The Giver of peace is eternally blissful. Through the Guru’s teachings, we are absorbed in intuitive peace.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa andar ha-umai mayraa.
When one’s body is filled ego and emotional attachment,
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੈ,
ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥
jaman maran na chookai fayraa.
Then his cycle of birth and death does not end.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ-ਰੂਪ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
gurmukh hovai so ha-umai maaray sacho sach Dhi-aavani-aa. ||3||
One who becomes Guru’s follower, subdues egotism, and meditates on the eternal God alone.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥
kaa-i-aa andar paap punn du-ay bhaa-ee.
Within this body are the two brothers, sin and virtue.
(ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਭਰਾ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੁਹੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
duhee mil kai sarisat upaa-ee.
When the two joined together, they created the mortals on the earth.
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੋਵੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
dovai maar jaa-ay ikat ghar aavai gurmat sahj samaavani-aa. ||4||
The person who under the Guru’s guidance rises above both, remains in God’s presence absorbed in intuitive peace.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਕੋ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਨੇਰਾ ॥
ghar hee maahi doojai bhaa-ay anayraa.
Because of the love of duality, the human mind is always filled with the darkness of ignorance.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਛੋਡੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
chaanan hovai chhodai ha-umai mayraa.
When one sheds one’s sense of ego and emotional attachment, then the divine light dawns.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।l
ਪਰਗਟੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
pargat sabad hai sukh-daata an-din naam Dhi-aavani-aa. ||5||
The Giver of peace is revealed through the divine word of His praises and then that person always lovingly meditates on God’s Name
ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉੱਘੜ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
antar jot pargat paasaaraa.
The one whose mind is illuminated with the divine light, which radiates throughout the expanse,
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੋਤਿ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ-ਪਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥
gur saakhee miti-aa anDhi-aaraa.
through the Guru’s teachings, the darkness of ignorance is dispelled from his mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kamal bigaas sadaa sukh paa-i-aa jotee jot milaavani-aa. ||6||
His heart blossoms like a lotus, and eternal peace is obtained, as one’s light merges into the Supreme Light.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕਮਲਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲ ਰਤਨੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
andar mahal ratnee bharay bhandaaraa.
The human body is like a treasure-house filled with precious divine virtues.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ-ਰੂਪ) ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
gurmukh paa-ay naam apaaraa.
The Guru’s follower who realizes the infinite Naam, obtains these divine virtues.
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
gurmukh vanjay sadaa vaapaaree laahaa naam sad paavni-aa. ||7||
The Guru’s follower, always meditates solely on these precious divine virtues and always earns the wealth of God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਵਪਾਰੀ (ਬਣ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਵਥੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
aapay vath raakhai aapay day-ay.
God Himself enshrines this wealth of Naam in the hearts of the mortals, and He Himself makes them realize about it.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥
gurmukh vanjahi kay-ee kay-ay.
Following the Guru’s teachings many fortunate people earn the wealth of Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ-ਵੱਖਰ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੭॥੨੮॥
naanak jis nadar karay so paa-ay kar kirpaa man vasaavani-aa. ||8||27||28||
O’ Nanak, only the one upon whom God casts His glance of grace obtains this wealth of Naam. Showing His mercy, God enshrines His Name within one’s mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l

Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
har aapay maylay sayv karaa-ay.
God Himself leads us to merge with Him and remember Him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad bhaa-o doojaa jaa-ay.
Through the Guru’s word, the love of duality is eradicated.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
har nirmal sadaa gundaataa har gun meh aap samaavani-aa. ||1||
The Immaculate God is the Bestower of eternal virtues. He Himself leads us to merge in His Virtues. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪ) ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਲੀਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree sach sachaa hirdai vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself, to those who enshrine the eternal God within their hearts.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sachaa naam sadaa hai nirmal gur sabdee man vasaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Ever immaculate is the eternal Name of God, through the Guru’s word, they enshrine it in their minds.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
aapay gur daataa karam biDhaataa.
God Himself is the Guru, and the Giver and the architect of human destiny.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ) ਕਰਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
sayvak sayveh gurmukh har jaataa.
The devotees, who by the Guru’s grace meditate upon Him, come to know Him.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
amrit naam sadaa jan soheh gurmat har ras paavni-aa. ||2||
By meditating on the Ambrosial Naam, they look beautiful. Through the Guru’s teachings, they receive the sublime essence of God’s Name.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਇਸੁ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥ ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
is gufaa meh ik thaan suhaa-i-aa. poorai gur ha-umai bharam chukaa-i-aa.
Within the cave of this body, there is one beautiful place. When ego and doubt are dispelled through the Guru, then God’s presence is revealed in the heart, which becomes a beautiful place in the body-cave.
(ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।ਉਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਪਿਆ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਥਾਂ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
an-din naam salaahan rang raatay gur kirpaa tay paavni-aa. ||3||
They who are imbued with God’s love and always sing His praises, by the Guru’s grace they unite with Him.
(ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
