ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਮਰੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
gurmukh jeevai marai parvaan.
The Guru’s follower is approved by God both in life and death.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਰਜਾ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
aarjaa na chheejai sabad pachhaan.
Since he realizes the Guru’s word, his life does not go waste.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gurmukh marai na kaal na khaa-ay gurmukh sach samaavani-aa. ||2||
A Guru’s follower always remains absorbed in the remembrance of God, he spiritually remains alive and he is not afraid of death.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
gurmukh har dar sobhaa paa-ay.
The Guru’s follower obtains honor in the God’s Court.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪਰਨੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
gurmukh vichahu aap gavaa-ay.
The Guru’s follower eradicates selfishness and conceit from within.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
aap tarai kul saglay taaray gurmukh janam savaarni-aa. ||3||
The Guru’s follower embellishes his life, he along with his families swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਵਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
gurmukh dukh kaday na lagai sareer.
A Guru’s follower never feels any bodily pain.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੀੜ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀl
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਪੀਰ ॥
gurmukh ha-umai chookai peer.
The Guru’s follower is freed from the pain of egotism.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
gurmukh man nirmal fir mail na laagai gurmukh sahj samaavani-aa. ||4||
The Guru’s follower remains absorbed in spiritual serenity, his mind becomes pure and the filth of ego never sticks to him again.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੰਬੜਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
gurmukh naam milai vadi-aa-ee.
The Guru’s follower obtains the glory of God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
gurmukh gun gaavai sobhaa paa-ee.
The Guru’s follower sings the Praises of God, and obtains honor.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sadaa anand rahai din raatee gurmukh sabad karaavani-aa. ||5||
A Guru’s follower remains in bliss forever, and is always inspiring others to act in accordance with the Guru’s word
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
gurmukh an-din sabday raataa.
The Guru’s follower is always imbued with the divine word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gurmukh jug chaaray hai jaataa.
The Guru’s follower is known throughout the four ages.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
gurmukh gun gaavai sadaa nirmal sabday bhagat karaavani-aa. ||6||
A Guru’s follower always sings the Praises of God, lives an immaculate life and lovingly meditates on God’s Name through the divine word.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
baajh guroo hai anDh anDhaaraa.
Without the Guru’s teachings, there is only pitch-black darkness of ignorance.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਛਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਗਰਠੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥
jamkaal garthay karahi pukaaraa.
Seized by the Messenger of Death, people cry out and scream.
(ਇਸ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਸ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਪੁਕਾਰਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਿਲੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
an-din rogee bistaa kay keerhay bistaa meh dukh paavni-aa. ||7||
They always remain afflicted with ailments arising from the vices and suffer like maggots in the filth.
ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਿੰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗੰਦ ਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਬਲ ਕੁਰਬਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
gurmukh aapay karay karaa-ay.
The Guru’s follower comes to understand that God alone is the doer and cause of causes.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਏ ॥
gurmukh hirdai vuthaa aap aa-ay.
God Himself comes to dwell in the heart of the Guru’s follower.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਆ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੫॥੨੬॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee pooray gur tay paavni-aa. ||8||25||26||
O’ Nanak, glory is obtained by meditating on God’s Name, and God’s Name is received only from the Perfect Guru.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
aykaa jot jot hai sareeraa.
One divine Light pervades in all the bodies,
ਸਭ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, (ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਿਸਚਾ)
ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
sabad dikhaa-ay satgur pooraa.
The Perfect True Guru reveals it through his teachings.
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
aapay farak keeton ghat antar aapay banat banaavani-aa. ||1||
He Himself created the Creation, and has made them different from one another.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਨਾਵਟ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ) ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਫ਼ਰਕ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ l
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree har sachay kay gun gaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who sing the Glorious Praises of God.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baajh guroo ko sahj na paa-ay gurmukh sahj samaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without the Guru’s teachings, no one attains a state of spiritual equipoise; only the Guru’s follower remains absorbed in a state of peace and poise.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਹਿ ॥
tooN aapay soheh aapay jag moheh.
You Yourself manifest Your beauty through Your creation and entice the world.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰੋਵਹਿ ॥
tooN aapay nadree jagat paroveh
Through Your gracious glance, You keep the world strung in Your command.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਕੀਤੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਦੇ ਧਾਗੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰੋਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
tooN aapay dukh sukh dayveh kartay gurmukh har daykhaavani-aa. ||2||
O’ Creator, You Yourself allocate joy and suffering to mortals, and reveal Yourself to the Guru’s followers.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aapay kartaa karay karaa-ay.
He Himself does everything, and causes others to do.
(ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
aapay sabad gur man vasaa-ay.
He Himself enshrines the Guru’s word in one’s mind.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sabday upjai amrit banee gurmukh aakh sunaavni-aa. ||3||
The Ambrosial Words for the God’s praises emanates from the Guru’s word. The Guru’s follower utters and recites it to others.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ) ਉਚਾਰ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥
aapay kartaa aapay bhugtaa.
He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
banDhan torhay sadaa hai muktaa.
He breaks the bonds of Maya of the mortals, He Himself is eternally liberated.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
sadaa mukat aapay hai sachaa aapay alakh lakhaavani-aa. ||4||
God is unaffected by Maya. The Unseen God causes Himself to be seen.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ (ਭੀ) ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੂਪ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਖਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
aapay maa-i-aa aapay chhaa-i-aa.
God Himself has created Maya and the illusory world under its influence.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
aapay moh sabh jagat upaa-i-aa.
He Himself has generated emotional attachment throughout the entire word.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
aapay gundaataa gun gaavai aapay aakh sunaavni-aa. ||5||
He Himself is the Giver of all virtues. By manifesting in the mortals, He Himself sings His praises, narrates and preaches His virtues.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਣ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣ) ਉਚਾਰ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥
aapay karay karaa-ay aapay.
He Himself does everything, and causes others to do.
(ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
aapay thaap uthaapay aapay.
He Himself creates and destroys the universe.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
tujh tay baahar kachhoo na hovai tooN aapay kaarai laavani-aa. ||6||
Without You, nothing can be done. You Yourself have engaged all in their tasks.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਵਾਏ ॥
aapay maaray aap jeevaa-ay.
God Himself causes spiritual death for some, and spiritual revival for others.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
aapay maylay mayl milaa-ay.
He Himself causes mortals to meet the Guru, and through the Guru He unites them with Himself.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sayvaa tay sadaa sukh paa-i-aa gurmukh sahj samaavani-aa. ||7||
Through selfless service, eternal peace is obtained. The Guru’s follower remains absorbed in intuitive peace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
