ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਨਾ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
manmukh doojai bharam bhulaa-ay naa boojheh veechaaraa. ||7||
But the self-willed people are lost in doubt and duality and do not understand the righteous way of life. ||7||
ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਹੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ ॥੭॥
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
aapay gurmukh aapay dayvai aapay kar kar vaykhai.
On His own, God gives the gift of His Name through the Guru and He Himself creates the play of the creation and looks over it.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਰੂਪੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਥਾਇ ਪਏ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਲੇਖੈ ॥੮॥੩॥
naanak say jan thaa-ay pa-ay hai jin kee pat paavai laykhai. ||8||3||
O’ Nanak, only those people are approved in God’s presence, whose honor He Himself takes into account. ||8||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੩॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਸਾਈ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਡੀਠਾ ॥
gusaa-eeN partaap tuhaaro deethaa.
O’ God, the master of the universe, I have seen Your grandeur.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ! (ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰੀ (ਅਜਬ) ਤਾਕਤ-ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਵੇਖੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਵਨ ਸਗਲ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਬੀਠਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karan karaavan upaa-ay samaavan sagal chhatarpat beethaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You are capable of doing and getting everything done, You are the creator and the destroyer; You are the sovereign among all. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਜਗਤ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ (ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਰਾਣਾ ਰਾਉ ਰਾਜ ਭਏ ਰੰਕਾ ਉਨਿ ਝੂਠੇ ਕਹਣੁ ਕਹਾਇਓ ॥
raanaa raa-o raaj bha-ay rankaa un jhoothay kahan kahaa-i-o.
The chiefs, kings and emperors become paupers, they have falsely called themself as kings.
ਨਵਾਬ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ ਹੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਅਖਵਾਇਆ
ਹਮਰਾ ਰਾਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
hamraa raajan sadaa salaamat taa ko sagal ghataa jas gaa-i-o. ||1||
But God, my sovereign king, is eternal and all the mortals have always sung His praises. ||1||
ਸਾਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਜਸ ਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਉਪਮਾ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਕਹਤ ਜੇਤ ਪਾਹੂਚਾ ॥
upmaa sunhu raajan kee santahu kahat jayt paahoochaa.
O’ saints, listen to the praises of God, the sovereign king, all those who utter His praises reach their divine home.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੁਣੋ। ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ਵਡ ਸਾਹ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ਊਚੇ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥੨॥
baysumaar vad saah daataaraa oochay hee tay oochaa. ||2||
No one can estimate His power, He is the great king and benefactor and the highest of the high. ||2||
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪਵਨਿ ਪਰੋਇਓ ਸਗਲ ਅਕਾਰਾ ਪਾਵਕ ਕਾਸਟ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
pavan paro-i-o sagal akaaraa paavak kaasat sangay.
God has made all creatures dependent on the air they breathe, and He has kept the fire and wood together.
ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਕੜ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਨੀਰੁ ਧਰਣਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਏਕਤ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਸੰਗੇ ॥੩॥
neer Dharan kar raakhay aykat ko-ay na kis hee sangay. ||3||
He has kept both water and land together, even though none of these is a true companion of the other. ||3||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਵਖੋ ਵੱਖ ਭੀ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਪਾਣੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ॥੩॥
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਕਥਾ ਰਾਜਨ ਕੀ ਚਾਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਉਮਾਹਾ ॥
ghat ghat kathaa raajan kee chaalai ghar ghar tujheh omaahaa.
The praises of God, the sovereign king, are being sung in each and every heart: O’ God, in every heart is the zeal for union with You.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਕਰਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥੪॥
jee-a jant sabh paachhai kari-aa parathmay rijak samaahaa. ||4||
You first provide for their sustenance and after that You create the living beings. ||4||
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣਾ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਕਾਹੂ ਦੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ॥
jo kichh karnaa so aapay karnaa maslat kaahoo deenHee.
Whatever God does, He does by Himself; has anyone ever counseled Him?
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸਲਾਹ ਮਸ਼ਵਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ?
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਹ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ॥੫॥
anik jatan kar karah dikhaa-ay saachee saakhee cheenHee. ||5||
Though, we mortals make all sorts of efforts to display to others, but the truth about reality is understood through the Guru’s teachings. ||5|
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਹੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਅਪਨੇ ਦੀਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ॥
har bhagtaa kar raakhay apnay deenee naam vadaa-ee.
God protects His devotees as His own and blesses them with the glory of His Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰੀ ਅਵਗਿਆ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਤੇ ਤੈਂ ਦੀਏ ਰੁੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਈ ॥੬॥
jin jin karee avgi-aa jan kee tay taiN dee-ay rurhHaa-ee. ||6||
O’ God, whosoever has insulted the devotees, You have drowned (them in the sea of evils). ||6||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿਰਾਦਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਰੋੜ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ) ॥੬॥
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਅਵਗਨ ਸਭਿ ਪਰਹਰਿਆ ॥
mukat bha-ay saaDhsangat kar tin kay avgan sabh parhari-aa.
God destroyed all the sins of those who became free of vices by associating with the company of saints.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਦੇਖਿ ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ॥੭॥
tin ka-o daykh bha-ay kirpaalaa tin bhav saagar tari-aa. ||7||
Seeing them, God became gracious and they swam across the world ocean of vices. ||7||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ॥੭॥
ਹਮ ਨਾਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਨੀਚ ਤੁਮੇ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਡ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉਣ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
ham naanHay neech tumHay bad saahib kudrat ka-un beechaaraa.
O’ God! You are the great master and we mortals are low and insignificant; who am I to reflect on Your expanse?
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ (ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਨਿੱਕੇ ਤੇ ਨੀਵੇਂ (ਕੀੜੇ ਜਿਹੇ) ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰੀ ਕੀਹ ਤਾਕਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਲਾ ਸਕਾਂ?
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸ ਦੇਖੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
man tan seetal gur daras daykhay naanak naam aDhaaraa. ||8||1||
O’ Nanak, one’s mind and body become calm by seeing the Guru (and following his teachings), and one obtains the support of God’s Name. ||8||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਠੰਢਾ ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥

ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਅਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਅਚਰਜ ਸਭਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Astonishing is the audience of the transcendent God. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥
sadaa sadaa satgur namaskaar.
Forever and ever, humbly bow to the true Guru.
ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
gur kirpaa tay gun gaa-ay apaar.
By singing praises of the infinite God through the Guru’s grace,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ-
ਮਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
man bheetar hovai pargaas.
the mind becomes enlightened by divine knowledge,
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
gi-aan anjan agi-aan binaas. ||1||
and the divine knowledge destroys the spiritual ignorance. ||1||
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਿਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥
mit naahee jaa kaa bisthaar.
God, whose worldly expanse has no limits,
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੱਦ-ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਸੋਭਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
sobhaa taa kee apar apaar.
whose glory is infinitely infinite,
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗਨੇ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
anik rang jaa kay ganay na jaahi.
whose innumerable wonders cannot be counted,
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਚੋਜ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਹਨ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ,
ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਦੁਹਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
sog harakh duhhoo meh naahi. ||2||
That God is beyond both happiness and sorrow. ||2||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੇਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਕਰਹਿ ॥
anik barahmay jaa kay bayd Dhun karahi.
Innumerable god Brahmas are uttering melodies of Vedas in His presence,
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਮਹੇਸ ਬੈਸਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਹਿ ॥
anik mahays bais Dhi-aan Dhareh.
innumerable gods like Shivas sit and focus their mind on Him,
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
