ਬਿਖਿਆਸਕਤ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਕੀਨੋ ਅਪਨੋ ਭਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bikhi-aaskat rahi-o nis baasur keeno apno bhaa-i-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Night and day, I remained engrossed in the love for Maya, the worldly riches and power, and did whatever pleased me. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਗਨ ਰਿਹਾ, ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਨਹਿ ਕਾਨਨਿ ਪਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ॥
gur updays suni-o neh kaanan par daaraa laptaa-i-o.
My ears never listened to the Guru’s teachings and I remained engrossed with lust for other’s woman.
ਮੈਂ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਾਹ ਸੁਣੀ, ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਵਤ ਸਮਝਿਓ ਨਹ ਸਮਝਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
par nindaa kaaran baho Dhaavat samjhi-o nah samjhaa-i-o. ||1||
I ran all around slandering others, I was counselled to stop but I never understood. ||1||
ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਸਮਝਾਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝਿਆ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਮਾੜਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਕਹਾ ਕਹਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਓ ॥
kahaa kaha-o mai apunee karnee jih biDh janam gavaa-i-o.
What can I say about my actions, and how I wasted this human life?
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਮੈਂ ਕਿੱਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਦੱਸਾਂ?
ਕਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਅਉਗਨ ਮੋ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਰਨਾਇਓ ॥੨॥੪॥੩॥੧੩॥੧੩੯॥੪॥੧੫੯॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
har bin ki-o jeevaa mayree maa-ee.
O’ my mother, how can I spiritually survive without realizing God?
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਜੀ ਸਕਾਂ?
ਜੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਚਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jai jagdees tayraa jas jaacha-o mai har bin rahan na jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the Master of the universe, I hail Your victory and beg for the gift of Your praise; O’ God, I cannot spiritually survive without You. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਜੈ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
har kee pi-aas pi-aasee kaaman daykh-a-u rain sabaa-ee.
Just as a young bride longs all night to meet with her husband, similarly in the yearning for union with God, I have been waiting for Him throughout my life.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਤਾਵਲੀ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰਦੀ ਚਲੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਨਾਥ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
sareeDhar naath mayraa man leenaa parabh jaanai peer paraa-ee. ||1||
My mind is focused on remembering God, the Master of the universe; God alone understands the panges of others. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੈ.ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਪੀੜ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗਣਤ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਪੀਰ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਂਈ ॥
ganat sareer peer hai har bin gur sabdee har paaN-ee.
Without remembering God, the pain of all the anxiety and worries is always there in my heart; God can only be realized through the Guru’s word.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਕਲਫ਼ਿ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
hohu da-i-aal kirpaa kar har jee-o har si-o rahaaN samaa-ee. ||2||
O’ dear God, bless me with your mercy and compassion, that I may remain absorbed in Your remembrance. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋ, ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਐਸੀ ਰਵਤ ਰਵਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
aisee ravat ravhu man mayray har charnee chit laa-ee.
O’ my mind, live in such a way that you are always focused on God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਅਜੇਹਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਫੜ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੇਂ।
ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥
bisam bha-ay gun gaa-ay manohar nirbha-o sahj samaa-ee. ||3||
Those who have become wonderstuck by singing the praises of captivating God; becoming free from worldly fear, they remain in a state of spiritual poise. ||3|
ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਡਰਾਂ-ਸਹਿਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਘਟੈ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
hirdai naam sadaa Dhun nihchal ghatai na keemat paa-ee.
If God’s Name gets enshrined in the heart and an everlasting tune of God’s love starts playing within, then it doesn’t diminish and its worth cannot be estimated.
ਜੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਜੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ) ਸਦੀਵੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਰੌ ਚੱਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਘਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥
bin naavai sabh ko-ee nirDhan satgur boojh bujhaa-ee. ||4||
Everyone is spiritually poor without the wealth of God’s Name, the true Guru has blessed me with this understanding. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਕੰਗਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਭਏ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਜਨੀ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥
pareetam paraan bha-ay sun sajnee doot mu-ay bikh khaa-ee.
Listen O’ my friend, my beloved God has become dear to me like my breaths; all my demons (vices) have vanished as if they have died eating poison.
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਸੁਣ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀ ਮਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਖਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਜਬ ਕੀ ਉਪਜੀ ਤਬ ਕੀ ਤੈਸੀ ਰੰਗੁਲ ਭਈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥੫॥
jab kee upjee tab kee taisee rangul bha-ee man bhaa-ee. ||5||
Since the time the love for God has welled up in me, it is still unchanged; being imbued with God’s love, I have become pleasing to His mind. ||5||
ਜਦ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਉਦੋਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲਗਣ ਲਗ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ।॥੫॥
ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥
sahj samaaDh sadaa liv har si-o jeevaaN har gun gaa-ee.
I always remain focused on God in a state of spiritual poise and I spiritually rejuvenate by singing His praises.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਲਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ॥੬॥
gur kai sabad rataa bairaagee nij ghar taarhee laa-ee. ||6||
Imbued with His love through the Guru’s Divine word I have become detached from worldly affairs, and remain focused on my own inner self. ||6||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਵੈਰਾਗਵਾਨ ਹੋ, ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੬॥
ਸੁਧ ਰਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਗੁਸਾਂਈਂ ॥
suDh ras naam mahaa ras meethaa nij ghar tat gusaaN-eeN.
O’ God, the Master of the universe and the essence of reality, I have realized You in my own heart; the immaculate elixir of Your Name is immensely sweet.
ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੇ ਪੁੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਰਸ ਬੜਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ l
ਤਹ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਜਹ ਹੀ ਤੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
tah hee man jah hee tai raakhi-aa aisee gurmat paa-ee. ||7||
O’ God, I have received such teachings from the Guru, that my mind is focused on Your Name where You have kept it attuned. ||7||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਮੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਸਨਕ ਸਨਾਦਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
sanak sanaad barahmaad indraadik bhagat ratay ban aa-ee.
When the gods like Indra, Brahma and his sons Sanak and Sanandan got imbued with the devotional worship of God, they developed love for God.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਵਰਗੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸਨਕ ਵਰਗੇ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਗਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣ ਗਈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak har bin gharee na jeevaaN har kaa naam vadaa-ee. ||8||1||
O Nanak, I cannot spiritually survive without God even for a moment and God’s Name is the greatest honor for me. ||8||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ, ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਜੀਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ । ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ-ਮਾਣ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
har bin ki-o Dheerai man mayraa.
How can my mind be comforted without God?
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਧੀਰਜ ਫੜ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਲਪ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kot kalap kay dookh binaasan saach drirh-aa-ay nibayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The sins of millions of ages vanish and one is emancipated by firmly enshiring the eternal God in the mind. ||1||Pause||
ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਬੰਦ ਖਲਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਜਲੇ ਹਉ ਮਮਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਉ ਰੰਗੀ ॥
kroDh nivaar jalay ha-o mamtaa paraym sadaa na-o rangee.
One who has relinquished his anger, his ego and emotional attachment, burns away, and he becomes imbued with the ever fresh love of God,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਦਿਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਨਿੱਤ ਨਵਾਂ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਅਨਭਉ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਗਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਚਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਸੰਗੀ ॥੧॥
anbha-o bisar ga-ay parabh jaachi-aa har nirmaa-il sangee. ||1||
One who has begged for the gift of Naam from God, all his fears of others go away and the immaculate God becomes his companion. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ) ਮੰਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ-ਸਹਿਮ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਵਿੱਤ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਚੰਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
chanchal mat ti-aag bha-o bhanjan paa-i-aa ayk sabad liv laagee.
One who has focused his mind on the divine word of God’s praises, he has renounced his fickle intellect, and has realized God, the destroyer of all fears.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਚੰਚਲ ਮੱਤ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੨॥
har ras chaakh tarikhaa nivaaree har mayl la-ay badbhaagee. ||2||
He has quenched his thirst for Maya by tasting the sublime elixir of God’s Name, and God has united that fortunate one with Himself. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅਭਰਤ ਸਿੰਚਿ ਭਏ ਸੁਭਰ ਸਰ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥
abhrat sinch bha-ay subhar sar gurmat saach nihaalaa.
One who has visualized God by following the Guru’s teachings, his insatiable sense organs have become satiated.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਸਿੰਜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਨਕਾਨਕ ਭਰ ਗਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।
