ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਕਤਹੁ ਬਾਤਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪਰਤੀ ਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pooran hot na katahu baateh ant partee haar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
the desires do not get quenched in any way and in the end fall down defeated. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ) ਰੱਜਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਤਕ) ਇਹ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਵਧਦੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੂਖ ਨ ਸਹਜੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਇਹੈ ਇਸੁ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਿ ॥
saaNt sookh na sahj upjai ihai is bi-uhaar.
It does not bring inner peace, happiness, and it does not produce spiritual stability; this always is the behavior of worldly desires.
(ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਪਜਦੀ। ਬੱਸ! ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਇਹੀ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ
ਆਪ ਪਰ ਕਾ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਹਿ ਜਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
aap par kaa kachh na jaanai kaam kroDheh jaar. ||1||
With lust and anger, these desires burn the inside of the human beings and do not care for anyone. ||1||
ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ) ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਲਿਹਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਦੁਖਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਦਾਸ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਤਾਰਿ ॥
sansaar saagar dukh bi-aapi-o daas layvhu taa
The world-ocean is filled with sorrows: O’ God, ferry your devotees across it.
ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲਵੋ
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣਾਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ॥੨॥੮੪॥੧੦੭॥
charan kamal sarnaa-ay naanak sad sadaa balihaar. ||2||84||107||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ God! I have sought the refuge of Your immaculate Name and I am always dedicated to You. ||2||84||107||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥੮੪॥੧੦੭॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਰੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੈ ਕਵਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੀਨ ॥
ray paapee tai kavan kee mat leen.
O sinner, whose intellect have you acquired?
ਹੇ ਪਾਪੀ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ (ਭੈੜੀ) ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਲਈ ਹੈ?
ਨਿਮਖ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੀਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nimakh gharee na simar su-aamee jee-o pind jin deen. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You do not remember the Master-God even for a moment or for the blink of an eye who blessed you with this body and this life. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਘੜੀ ਭਰ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਖਾਤ ਪੀਵਤ ਸਵੰਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਖੀਨ ॥
khaat peevat savant sukhee-aa naam simrat kheen.
You are happy while eating, drinking and sleeping, but become lazy while remembering God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਪਾਪੀ! ਖਾਂਦਾ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਸੌਂਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਲਸੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਗਰਭ ਉਦਰ ਬਿਲਲਾਟ ਕਰਤਾ ਤਹਾਂ ਹੋਵਤ ਦੀਨ ॥੧॥
garabh udar billaat kartaa tahaaN hovat deen. ||1||
While in the mother’s womb, you used to cry and remained helpless. ||1||
ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਲਕਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਗਰੀਬੜਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
ਮਹਾ ਮਾਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਾਧਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੀਨ ॥
mahaa maad bikaar baaDhaa anik jon bharmeen.
O’ sinner, engrossed in the extreme intoxication of vices, you have been wandering through countless reincarnations.
ਹੇ ਪਾਪੀ! ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੱੜੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਬਿਸਰੇ ਕਵਨ ਦੁਖ ਗਨੀਅਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਦ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ ॥੨॥੮੫॥੧੦੮॥
gobind bisray kavan dukh ganee-ah sukh naanak har pad cheenH. ||2||85||108||
Which of the sufferings may I count that afflict a person by forgetting God? O’ Nanak, inner peace is realized only by realizing God’s Name. ||2||85||108||
ਮੈਂ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਗਿਣਾ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਾਪਰਦੇ ਹਨ? ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੮੫॥੧੦੮॥

ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਚਰਨਹ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ॥
maa-ee ree charnah ot gahee.
O’ my mother, since the time I grasped the support of God’s Name,
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਬਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darsan paykh mayraa man mohi-o durmat jaat bahee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
my mind has been captivated by experiencing His blessed vision and my bad intellect has vanished. ||1||Pause||
(ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਰੁੜ੍ਹ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਗਹ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਊਚ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹੀ ॥
agah agaaDh ooch abhinaasee keemat jaat na kahee.
God is unfathomable, infinitely deep, exalted and eternal, and His worth cannot be stated.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸਿਓ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਮਹੀ ॥੧॥
jal thal paykh paykh man bigsi-o poor rahi-o sarab mahee. ||1||
God is pervading the entire universe; visualizing Him everywhere, in the waters and in the lands my mind has blossomed. ||1||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਹ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਹੀ ॥
deen da-i-aal pareetam manmohan mil saaDhah keeno sahee.
The beloved God is merciful to the meek and enticer of the hearts, I have realized Him upon meeting the saints.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਭੀਰ ਨ ਫਹੀ ॥੨॥੮੬॥੧੦੯॥
simar simar jeevat har naanak jam kee bheer na fahee. ||2||86||109||
O’ Nanak, by lovingly remembering God, one attains spiritual life and does not get entangled in the crowd of demons of death. ||2||86||109||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੀੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸੀਦਾ ॥੨॥੮੬॥੧੦੯॥

ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਤਵਾਰੋ ॥
maa-ee ree man mayro matvaaro.
O’ my mother, my mind is elated,
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਪੇਖਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਅਨਦ ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਪਿਓ ਖੁਮਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paykh da-i-aal anad sukh pooran har ras rapi-o khumaaro. ||1|| rahaa-o.
by visualizing the merciful God; yes by being imbued with God’s love, my mind is elated and is enjoying the bliss of complete inner peace. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਸੁਖ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਸਤ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਊਜਲ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਾਰੋ ॥
nirmal bha-ay oojal jas gaavat bahur na hovat kaaro.
The human being whose mind becomes immaculate and radiant by singing God’s praises, does not become filthy with vices ever again.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਉੱਜਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਕਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਡੋਰੀ ਰਾਚੀ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
charan kamal si-o doree raachee bhayti-o purakh apaaro. ||1||
That human being whose mind remains focused on God’s immaculate Name, realizes the all pervading infinite God. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਡੋਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਦੀਨੇ ਦੀਪਕ ਭਇਓ ਉਜਾਰੋ ॥
kar geh leenay sarbas deenay deepak bha-i-o ujaaro.
By extending help to whom God accepts His own, He blesses that person with everything and his mind becomes enlightened with Naam, the Divine lamp.
ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਨਾਮ ਦੇ) ਦੀਵੇ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਸਿਕ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕੁਲਹ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਤਾਰੋ ॥੨॥੮੭॥੧੧੦॥
naanak naam rasik bairaagee kulah samoohaaN taaro. ||2||87||110||
O’ Nanak, one who is imbued with the love of God’s Name, is detached from Maya and helps all his lineages across the world-ocean of vices. ||2||87||110||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੮੭॥੧੧੦॥

ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਆਨ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥
maa-ee ree aan simar mar jaaNhi.
O’ my mother, those who remember someone other than God, goes through spiritual deterioration,
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ti-aag gobid jee-an ko daataa maa-i-aa sang laptaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
they forsake God, the benefactor to all, and remain clinging to Maya, the worldly riches and power. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਅਨ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
naam bisaar chaleh an maarag narak ghor meh paahi.
Those who forget God’s Name and follow the ritualistic way of life, endure so much misery as if they are in terrible hell.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਸਜਾਂਈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਗਰਭੈ ਗਰਭਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
anik sajaaN-ee ganat na aavai garbhai garabh bharmaahi. ||1||
They suffer so many punishments which cannot be counted and they keep wandering from birt to birth. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਤਨੀਆਂ ਸਜ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੂਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਸੇ ਪਤਿਵੰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
say Dhanvantay say pativantay har kee saran samaahi.
Those who remain in God’s refuge are truly wealthy and honorable.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਧਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤਿਓ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੨॥੮੮॥੧੧੧॥
gur parsaad naanak jag jeeti-o bahur na aavahi jaaNhi. ||2||88||111||
O’ Nanak, by Guru’s grace, they have conquered the love for worldly attachments and they do not fall in the cycle of birth and death ever again. ||2||88||111||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੮੮॥੧੧੧॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਕਾਟੀ ਕੁਟਿਲਤਾ ਕੁਠਾਰਿ ॥
har kaatee kutiltaa kuthaar.
A human being from whose mind God has driven out wickedness as if He has cut it off with an axe,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਖੋਟ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੁਹਾੜੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਬਨ ਦਹਨ ਭਏ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bharam ban dahan bha-ay khin bheetar raam naam parhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
all his doubts are driven out instantly, as if all the forests of doubts within him have been burnt down with a single strike of God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਚੋਟ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਹੀ ਸੜ (ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ) ਗਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਰਹਰੀਆ ਕਾਢੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
kaam kroDh nindaa parharee-aa kaadhay saaDhoo kai sang maar.
By staying in the company of the Guru, one who eradicates his lust, anger and slander by beating them out.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਕਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
