ਸਾਜਨ ਮੀਤ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਗੁਨ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
saajan meet sakhaa har mayrai gun gopaal har raa-i-aa.
God, the sovereign king and master of the earth, whose praises I sing, is my best friend and companion.
ਜਿਸ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਹ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਨਿਮਖ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
bisar na jaa-ee nimakh hirdai tay poorai guroo milaa-i-aa. ||1||
The perfect Guru has united me with God, whom I do not forget even for the blink of an eye.||1||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖੇ ਦਾਸ ਅਪਨੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਵਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥
kar kirpaa raakhay daas apnay jee-a jant vas jaa kai.
God, under whose control are all the beings and creatures, always protects His devotees by bestowing mercy on them.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਏਕਾ ਲਿਵ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥੨॥੭੩॥੯੬॥
aykaa liv pooran parmaysur bha-o nahee naanak taa kai. ||2||73||96||
O’ Nanak, one who is always in love with the all pervading supreme God, no fear remains in his mind. ||2||73||96||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ॥੨॥੭੩॥੯੬॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਬਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaa kai raam ko bal ho-ay.
O’ my friends, one who has the blessings of God’s support in his heart,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੇ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal manorath pooran taahoo kay dookh na bi-aapai ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
all his objectives get fulfilled and no grief affects him ever. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਨਿਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
jo jan bhagat daas nij parabh kaa sun jeevaaN tis so-ay.
I spiritually rejuvenate by listening to the glory of that person who becomes God’s own devotee.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਾਸ ਭਗਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਉ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਨ ਕੌ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
udam kara-o darsan paykhan kou karam paraapat ho-ay. ||1||
I make efforts to see and visit with him, but this opportunity comes along only by God’s grace. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
gur parsaadee darisat nihaara-o doosar naahee ko-ay.
By the Guru’s grace I see with my own eyes that there is no other equal to God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਚਰਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥੭੪॥੯੭॥
daan deh naanak apnay ka-o charan jeevaaN sant Dho-ay. ||2||74||97||
O’ God, grant me, Your devotee Nanak, this blessing that I may lead spiritual life by washing the feet of saints (serving them with humility). ||2||74||97||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ, ਨਾਨਕ, ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਪਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੨॥੭੪॥੯੭॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
jeevat raam kay gun gaa-ay.
One remains spiritually alive by singing the praises of God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਬੀਠੁਲੇ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karahu kirpaa gopaal beethulay bisar na kab hee jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, the master of the universe, bestow mercy on me so that I may never forget You. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਨ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
man tan Dhan sabh tumraa su-aamee aan na doojee jaa-ay.
O’ my Master-God, my mind, body, and wealth are all given by You; I have no other place to go to.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵ ਹੀ ਰਹਣਾ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਰਾ ਪੈਨੈ੍ ਖਾਇ ॥੧॥
ji-o too raakhahi tiv hee rahnaa tumHraa painHai khaa-ay. ||1||
I live as You keep me, and I eat and wear what You give me. ||1||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਓਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਤੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ॥੧॥
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜਨਮਾ ਧਾਇ ॥
saaDhsangat kai bal bal jaa-ee bahurh na janmaa Dhaa-ay.
I am always dedicated to the holy congregation; with blessings of the holy persons, one does not wander in the reincarnations.
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ) ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਇ ॥੨॥੭੫॥੯੮॥
naanak daas tayree sarnaa-ee ji-o bhaavai tivai chalaa-ay. ||2||75||98||
O’ God, Your devotee, Nanak has come to Your refuge; please guide me through life as it pleases You. ||2||75||98||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੋਰ ॥੨॥੭੫॥੯੮॥

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੋ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰ ॥
man ray naam ko sukh saar.
O’ my mind, the pleasure of remembrance of God’s Name with love and devotion is superior to all other pleasures.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ (ਹੋਰ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ।
ਆਨ ਕਾਮ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਗਲ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਛਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan kaam bikaar maa-i-aa sagal deeseh chhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
All other deeds for the sake of Maya, the worldly riches and power, are in vain and they all look like ashes. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਹ (ਸਮਾਨ ਹੀ) ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਪਤਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥
garihi anDh koop patit paraanee narak ghor gubaar.
One who keeps running after worldly riches is like the one who falls in the dark, blind well of the household where there is pitch darkness of hell.
(ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਨਰਕ-ਸਮਾਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ॥੧॥
anik jonee bharmat haari-o bharmat baaraN baar. ||1||
He gets tired of wandering in various incarnations again and again. ||1||
ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸੱਤਿਆ ਗਵਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਛਲ ਦੀਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰ ॥
patit paavan bhagat bachhal deen kirpaa Dhaar.
O’ purifier of sinners, O’ lover of devotional worship, O’ merciful to the meek,
ਹੇ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ!
ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੨॥੭੬॥੯੯॥
kar jorh naanak daan maaNgai saaDhsang uDhaar. ||2||76||99||
with folded hands, Nanak begs for the blessing to save me (from the bottomless pit of Maya) by keeping me in the company of saints. ||2||76||99||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੨॥੭੬॥੯੯॥

ਬਿਰਾਜਿਤ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
biraajit raam ko partaap.
One who has the power of God’s Name in his heart,
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਆ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਧਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਸਭ ਨਾਸੀ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਤੀਨੈ ਤਾਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aaDh bi-aaDh upaaDh sabh naasee binsay teenai taap. ||1|| rahaa-o.
all three afflictions related to his mental, physical and social conditions completely vanish. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਧੀ ਬਿਆਧੀ ਉਪਾਧੀ-ਇਹ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਹੀ ਤਾਪ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਚੂਕੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥
tarisnaa bujhee pooran sabh aasaa chookay sog santaap.
(One who has the power of God’s Name) all his worldly desires are quenched, his every hope is fulfilled, and his sorrows and sufferings vanish.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਗਮ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਅਚੁਤ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਆਤਮ ਧ੍ਰਾਪ ॥੧॥
gun gaavat achut abhinaasee man tan aatam Dharaap. ||1||
His mind, body and consciousness are fully satiated by singing the praises of the eternal God. ||1||
ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਖਾਪ ॥
kaam kroDh lobh mad matsar saaDhoo kai sang khaap.
O’ God, by keeping me in the company of holy persons, destroy my vices, like lust, anger, greed, ego and jealousy;
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ ਈਰਖਾ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨਾਸ ਕਰ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਭੈ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੨॥੭੭॥੧੦੦॥
bhagat vachhal bhai kaatanhaaray naanak kay maa-ee baap. ||2||77||100||
O’ the lover of devotional worship, destroyer of fear, and the father and the mother of Nanak, please accept this prayer of mine. ||2||77||100||
ਹੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਾਂ-ਪਿਉ ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ) ॥੨॥੭੭॥੧੦੦॥

(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਕੂਕਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਇਤੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਛਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taripat na hovat kookree aasaa it laago bikhi-aa chhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
it remains clinged to this ash of worldly riches and power, and its dog-like lust is never satisfied. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸ ਸੁਆਹ-ਸਮਾਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕੁੱਤੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ (ਜਗਤ ਦੀ) ਲਾਲਸਾ ਕਦੇ ਰੱਜਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪਾਇ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਓ ਜਨਮਤ ਬਾਰੋ ਬਾਰ ॥
paa-ay thag-uree aap bhulaa-i-o janmat baaro baar.
God Himself created Maya; because of their deeds, people get tricked by Maya and go astray and wander in reincarnations.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਕਰਤ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੧॥
har kaa simran nimakh na simri-o jamkankar karat khu-aar. ||1||
The human being does not remember God’s Name even for the blink of an eye, and therefore, the demon of death keeps punishing him.||1||
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਤੇਰਿਆ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
hohu kirpaal deen dukh bhanjan tayri-aa santeh kee raavaar.
O’ God, the destroyer of sorrows of the meek, bestow mercy on me, I am the dust of the feet (humble servant) of Your saints.
ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹਾਂ ।
