ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਰੇਸਟ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
soDhat soDhat tat beechaari-o bhagat saraysat pooree.
After deliberating again and again, I have concluded that God’s devotional worship is the perfect and most sublime deed of all.
ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਲੱਭੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਚੰਗੀ (ਕ੍ਰਿਆ) ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਧਿ ਊਰੀ ॥੨॥੬੨॥੮੫॥
kaho naanak ik raam naam bin avar sagal biDh ooree. ||2||62||85||
Nanak says that except for lovingly remembering God’s Name, any other way of life is incomplete. ||2||62||85||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਹਰੇਕ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਢੰਗ ਅਧੂਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੬੨॥੮੫॥

Raag Saarang, Fifth Guru:
ਸਾਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
saachay satguroo daataaraa.
O’ the eternal God, the true Guru and the bestower of bounties.
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ,
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darsan daykh sagal dukh naaseh charan kamal balihaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
all one’s sorrows vanish by experiencing Your blessed vision; I am dedicated to Your immaculate Name. ||1||Pause|
ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
sat parmaysar sat saaDh jan nihchal har kaa naa-o.
O’ brother, the supreme God is eternal, eternal are His saintly devotees and everlasting is His Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਅਟੱਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥
bhagat bhaavnee paarbarahm kee abhinaasee gun gaa-o. ||1||
Therefore, perform the devotional worship of supreme God with adoration and always sing the praises of the eternal God. ||1||
ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਓ ॥੧॥
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
agam agochar mit nahee paa-ee-ai sagal ghataa aaDhaar.
God is inaccessible and beyond comprehension; no one can find His limits and He is the mainstay of all beings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤਕ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਉਹ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਹੁ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੬੩॥੮੬॥
naanak vaahu vaahu kaho taa ka-o jaa kaa ant na paar. ||2||63||86||
O’ Nanak, hail the glory of that God, whose virtues are endless and have no limits. ||2||63||86||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥੬੩॥੮੬॥

Raag Saarang, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਬਸੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੈ ॥
gur kay charan basay man mayrai.
Ever since the Guru’s teaching is enshrined in my heart,
(ਜਦੋਂ ਦੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਹਨ,
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬਸੈ ਸਭ ਨੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
poor rahi-o thaakur sabh thaa-ee nikat basai sabh nayrai. ||1|| rahaa-o ||
I am convinced that God is pervading everywhere and is always close to us all. ||1||Pause||
(ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭਨੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
banDhan tor raam liv laa-ee satsang ban aa-ee.
Breaking my bonds to the worldly attachments, the Guru has attuned my mind to God, and now I feel happy in the company of saints.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,ਤੇ ਸਂਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਨ ਗਈ ਹੈl
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਭਇਓ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ਇਛਾ ਸਗਲ ਪੁਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
janam padaarath bha-i-o puneetaa ichhaa sagal pujaa-ee. ||1||
My precious human life has become immaculate, and the Guru has fulfilled all my desires. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
jaa ka-o kirpaa karahu parabh mayray so har kaa jas gaavai.
O’ my God, upon whom You bestow mercy, that person sings Your praises.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੬੪॥੮੭॥
aath pahar gobind gun gaavai jan naanak sad bal jaavai. ||2||64||87||
Devotee Nanak is always dedicated to the one who always sings praises of God with loving devotion. ||2||64||87||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੬੪॥੮੭॥

ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤਉ ਗਨੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਪੇਖਾ ॥
jeevan ta-o ganee-ai har paykhaa.
I would consider my life successful only if I realized God in this life time.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਇਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਅਸਲ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਜੀਵਨ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਫੋਰਿ ਭਰਮ ਕੀ ਰੇਖਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karahu kirpaa pareetam manmohan for bharam kee raykhaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my enticing beloved God, bestow mercy on me and erase the writ of doubt from my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਉਪਜਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਸਾਸ ਕਿਆ ਸੇਖਾਂ ॥
kahat sunat kichh saaNt na upjat bin bisaas ki-aa saykhaaN.
O’ my friends, one does not achieve inner peace by merely doing the rituals or listening to religious sermons, unless one has faith in God.
ਨਿਰੇ ਆਖਣ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ। ਸਰਧਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਆਖਣ ਸੁਣਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨ ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਕਾਲੇਖਾ ॥੧॥
parabhoo ti-aag aan jo chaahat taa kai mukh laagai kaalaykhaa. ||1||
Forsaking God, one who runs after the worldly desires, he is disgraced as if his face has been smeared with filth of Maya. ||1||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਤਾਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਥੇਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਲੋੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਕਾਲਖ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਾਸਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਨ ਨ ਮਾਨਤ ਭੇਖਾ ॥
jaa kai raas sarab sukh su-aamee aan na maanat bhaykhaa.
One who is blessed with the wealth of the Name of the Master-God, the bestower of all comforts, does not believe in religious rituals.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੋਰ (ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਮਗਨ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਰਥ ਬਿਸੇਖਾ ॥੨॥੬੫॥੮੮॥
naanak daras magan man mohi-o pooran arath bisaykhaa. ||2||65||88||
O’ Nanak, such a person’s mind remains immersed in God’s captivating glimpse, because by God’s grace, all of his life’s objectives remain fulfilled. ||2||65||88||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਤਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਦਰਸਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਾਲ) ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਉਚੇਚੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੬੫॥੮੮॥

ਸਿਮਰਨ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮ ॥
simran raam ko ik naam.
O’ my friends, if one only remembers God with adoration,
ਜੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ,
ਕਲਮਲ ਦਗਧ ਹੋਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਦਾਨ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kalmal dagaDh hohi khin antar kot daan isnaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
all his vices and sins are burnt off in an instant, as if he has done millions of charities and ablutions at the holy places. ||1||Pause||
ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਦਾਨ ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ (ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਨ ਜੰਜਾਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਘਾਲਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਫੋਕਟ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
aan janjaar baritha saram ghaalat bin har fokat gi-aan.
All worldly entanglements in which one keeps putting in hard labor are useless and all talks of spiritual wisdom without remembering God are useless.
(ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੀ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਜੰਜਾਲਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਭੱਜ-ਦੌੜ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ, ਤਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਨਿਰੀਆਂ) ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸਭ ਫੋਕੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਸੰਕਟ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਭਜਨ ਸੁਖ ਧਿਆਨ ॥੧॥
janam maran sankat tay chhootai jagdees bhajan sukh Dhi-aan. ||1||
When one focuses his mind on the bliss of remembering God of the universe, then he is freed from the anguish of the cycle of birth and death. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਜਨ ਦੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦੇ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨ ॥
tayree saran pooran sukh saagar kar kirpaa dayvhu daan.
O’ the perfect God, the ocean of bliss, I have come to Your refuge, bestow mercy and bless me with the gift of Your Name.
ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਹ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਵੈ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ॥੨॥੬੬॥੮੯॥
simar simar naanak parabh jeevai binas jaa-ay abhimaan. ||2||66||89||
O’ God! Nanak remains spiritually alive and his ego vanishes by always remembering You with loving devotion.||2||66||89||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੬੬॥੮੯॥

ਧੂਰਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਿ ਧੁਰ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
Dhoorat so-ee je Dhur ka-o laagai.
O’ my friend, that person alone is truly intelligent who always remains attached to the primal God’s Name
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਸਲ) ਚਤੁਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋਈ ਧੁਰੰਧਰੁ ਸੋਈ ਬਸੁੰਧਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਏਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਪਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so-ee DhuranDhar so-ee basunDhar har ayk paraym ras paagai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
That person alone is a true leader and wealthy who remains elated only in the love of God. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁਖੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧਨੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਲਬੰਚ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਲਾਭੈ ਸੋ ਧੂਰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ॥
balbanch karai na jaanai laabhai so Dhoorat nahee moorhHaa.
One who keeps on deceiving others and does not understand his true (spiritual) gain, he is not clever, but is a fool.
ਪਰ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਠੱਗੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਲ) ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਉਹ ਚਤੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਆਰਥੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਅਸਾਰਥਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰੂੜਾ ॥੧॥
su-aarath ti-aag asaarath rachi-o nah simrai parabh roorhaa. ||1||
Forsaking the real objective, he doesn’t meditate on the beauteous God and is involved in a useless pursuit. ||1||
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਸਲ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਘਾਟੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਸੋਈ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਸੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਸੋ ਦਾਨਾਂ ॥
so-ee chatur si-aanaa pandit so sooraa so daanaaN.
Only that human being is clever, intellegent, a pandit, a warrior, and wise,
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚਤੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਤੇ ਦਾਨਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੨॥੬੭॥੯੦॥
saaDhsang jin har har japi-o naanak so parvaanaa. ||2||67||90||
who sits in the company of saints and meditates on Naam: O’ Nanak, he alone is accepted in God’s presence. ||2||67||90||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੬੭॥੯੦॥
