Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥
amrit naam maneh aaDhaaro.
The ambrosial Name of God has now become the support of my mind.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ (ਬਣ ਗਿਆ) ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਦੀਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jin Dheeaa This Kai Kurabaanai Gur Poorae Namasakaaro ||1|| Rehaao ||
The perfect Guru who has blessed me with God’s Name, I am dedicated to him and I humbly bow before him. ||1||Pause||.
ਜਿਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬੂਝੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੋ ॥
boojhee tarisnaa sahj suhaylaa kaam kroDh bikh jaaro.
My yearning for materialism is quenched, I am peaceful in a state of poise; I have burnt down my lust and anger, the cause for spiritual deterioration.
ਮੇਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਸੁਖੀ (ਹੋ ਗਿਆ) ਹਾਂ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਬਸੈ ਇਹ ਠਾਹਰ ਜਹ ਆਸਨੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
aa-ay na jaa-ay basai ih thaahar jah aasan nirankaaro. ||1||
Now my mind doesn’t wander and abides in that place within me where dwells the formless God. ||1||
(ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ) ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਏਕੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਏਕੈ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਏਕੈ ਧੁੰਧੂਕਾਰੋ ॥
aykai pargat aykai guptaa aykai DhunDhookaaro.
God Himself is this visible world, He Himself is hidden as soul in living beings and He alone was there in the state of nothingness (pitch darkness).
ਇਹ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਆਤਮਾ ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਭੀ (ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ) ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੨॥੩੧॥੫੪॥
aad maDh ant parabh so-ee kaho naanak saach beechaaro. ||2||31||54||
O’ Nanak! say, the truth is that, God has been present since the beginning of creation, is present now and would be present after the end. ||2||31||54||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ, ਸਚਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਆਰੰਭ ਵਿਚ, ਹੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩੧॥੫੪॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਘਰੀ ॥
bin parabh rahan na jaa-ay gharee.
One cannot spiritually survive even for a moment without remembering God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾl
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਹਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab sookh taahoo kai pooran jaa kai sukh hai haree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
That person’s desires for all comforts are fulfilled in whose heart manifests God, the source of inner peace. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਧਨ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਨਦ ਘਨਾ ॥
mangal roop paraan jeevan Dhan simrat anad ghanaa.
God is the embodiment of bliss, the breath of life; one enjoys immense bliss by remembering Him with adoration.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਸੰਗੇ ਗੁਨ ਰਸਨਾ ਕਵਨ ਭਨਾ ॥੧॥
vad samrath sadaa sad sangay gun rasnaa kavan bhanaa. ||1||
God is very powerful, He is always with us and which of His virtues may I utter with my tongue? ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਾਂ? ॥੧॥
ਥਾਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਾਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਨਨ ਕਹਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
thaan pavitaraa maan pavitaraa pavitar sunan kehanhaaray.
O’ God, sanctified are those places where Your Name is recited, immaculate are those who believe in it and immaculate are those who listen and utter it.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਿਥੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਭਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੩੨॥੫੫॥
kaho naanak tay bhavan pavitaraa jaa meh sant tumHaaray. ||2||32||55||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ God! sacred are those houses in which Your saints reside. ||2||32||55||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਘਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੩੨॥੫੫॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪਤੀ ਤੂਹੀ ਤੂਹੀ ॥
rasnaa japtee toohee toohee.
O’ God, my tongue keeps uttering Your Name again and again.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਾਪ ਹੀ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਇਕ ਤੁਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maat garabh tum hee partipaalak mitar mandal ik tuhee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
It is You who sustains the creatures in the womb of their mother and You alone (are their sustainer) in this mortal world. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਮੀਤ ਹਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥
tumeh pitaa tum hee fun maataa tumeh meet hit bharaataa.
O’ God, You are our father and You are also our mother; You are our friend, well-wisher and sibling.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਉ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਮਾਂ ਭੀ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਿਤੂ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਭਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੁਮ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਆਧਾਰਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਦਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
tum parvaar tumeh aaDhaaraa tumeh jee-a paraan-daataa. ||1||
You are our family, You are our support and You alone are the giver of life and breaths. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਖਜੀਨਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਜਰੀਨਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਲਾਲਾ ॥
tumeh khajeenaa tumeh jareenaa tum hee maanik laalaa.
O’ God, You are the treasure for me, You are my worldly wealth, and for me You are precious like gems and jewels.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀਰੇ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੩੩॥੫੬॥
tumeh paarjaat gur tay paa-ay ta-o naanak bha-ay nihaalaa. ||2||33||56||
O’ Nanak! You are like the wish-fulfilling Elysian tree; we become delighted when You are realized through the Guru. ||2||33||56||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈਂ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩੩॥੫੬॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾਹੂ ਕਾਹੂ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
jaahoo kaahoo apuno hee chit aavai.
Everyone always remembers one’s own friend or relative.
ਹਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ (ਕੋਈ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ (ਪਿਆਰਾ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਯਾਦ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਚੇਰੋ ਹੋਵਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo kaahoo ko chayro hovat thaakur hee peh jaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In the time of need, a servant goes only to his Master. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਾਲਕ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ (ਲੋੜ ਪਿਆਂ) ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਪਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਦੂਖ ਅਪਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਸੂਖਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥
apnay peh dookh apnay peh sookhaa apunay hee peh birthaa.
One discloses his sorrows, shares his pleasures and narrates the state of his mind to those whom he considers his own.
ਆਪਣੇ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਕੋਲ ਦੁੱਖ ਫੋਲੀਦੇ ਹਨ , ਸੁਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਕੋਲ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੱਸੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਤਾਨਾ ਅਪਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥੧॥
apunay peh maan apunay peh taanaa apnay hee peh arthaa. ||1||
One feels proud of his own, leans on his own, and goes to his own to accomplish all one’s needs. ||1||
ਆਪਣੇ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਦੱਸੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਧਨ ਮਿਲਖਾ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਬਾਪ ਮਹਤਾਰੀ ॥
kin hee raaj joban Dhan milkhaa kin hee baap mehtaaree.
Some felt proud on account of their power, youth, wealth, or property, and some depended upon their father and mother for support .
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਦਾ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਧਨ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਕੀਤਾ, ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪਿਉ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਿਆ।
ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੩੪॥੫੭॥
sarab thok naanak gur paa-ay pooran aas hamaaree. ||2||34||57||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ Guru! I have obtained all things from you and all my desires have been fulfilled. ||2||34||57||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩੪॥੫੭

ਝੂਠੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਮਦ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jhootho maa-i-aa ko mad maan.
False is the intoxication and pride of Maya, the worldly riches and power.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ l
ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਪਾਲਹਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dharoh moh door kar bapuray sang gopaaleh jaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ ignorant one, cast away your love and deceitful deeds for Maya and know that God is always with you. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਠੱਗੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨ ਅਰੁ ਉਮਰੇ ਮੀਰ ਮਲਕ ਅਰੁ ਖਾਨ ॥
mithi-aa raaj joban ar umray meer malak ar khaan.
False and short lived are royal powers, youth, nobility, kings, rulers and aristocrats.
ਰਾਜ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ। ਅਮੀਰ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਸਭ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ ।
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕਾਪਰ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਪਾਨ ॥੧॥
mithi-aa kaapar suganDh chaturaa-ee mithi-aa bhojan paan. ||1||
False and short lived are the fine clothes, perfumes and clever tricks; false are the foods and drinks. ||1||
ਇਹ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ) ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਝੂਠਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ। ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਦੇ (ਵਧੀਆ) ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਭ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧਰੋ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਸਾਰਾਨ ॥
deen baDhro daas daasro santeh kee saaraan.
O’ God, the patron of the helpless, I am the servant of Your devotees; I seek the refuge of Your saints.
ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਹਾਂ।
ਮਾਂਗਨਿ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥੨॥੩੫॥੫੮॥
maaNgan maaNga-o ho-ay achintaa mil naanak kay har paraan. ||2||35||58||
O’ God, the life of Nanak, with full faith, I beg of You to show me Your blessed vision. ||2||35||58||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਹਰੀ! ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਮੰਗ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ ॥੨॥੩੫॥੫੮॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਅਪੁਨੀ ਇਤਨੀ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
apunee itnee kachhoo na saaree.
O’ ignorant, you have not taken even a little care of your own spiritual welfare.
ਹੇ ਗਵਾਰ! (ਜਿਹੜੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ) ਆਪਣੀ (ਬਣਨੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਕਾਜ ਅਨਿਕ ਧਾਵਰਤਾ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਆਨ ਜੰਜਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik kaaj anik Dhaavrataa urjhi-o aan janjaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You have been running after worldly tasks, and remained engrossed in other worldly entanglements. ||1||Pause||
(ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਜੰਜਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਿਉਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੇ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸੰਗੀ ਊਹਾਂ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਹ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
di-us chaar kay deeseh sangee oohaaN naahee jah bhaaree.
These friends and relatives would be your companions only for a few days, and won’t be there to help you when you are in big trouble in the end.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹ) ਸਾਥੀ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਇਹ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ)।
