ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
mansaa maar sach samaanee.
One who, by subduing his desires, merged with the True One;
(ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਇਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਡੀਠੀ ਸਭ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
in man deethee sabh aavan jaanee.
He has realized that this entire world is subject to coming and going.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ (ਟਿਕੇ ਹੋਏ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਵੇਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ (ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਹੈ)।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
satgur sayvay sadaa man nihchal nij ghar vaasaa paavni-aa. ||3||
By following the teachings of the True Guru, his mind always remains in a state of poise, and he realizes the presence of God within himself. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
gur kai sabad ridai dikhaa-i-aa.
The Guru’s word has shown me the presence of God within my heart.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa moh sabad jalaa-i-aa.
By following the Guru’s word, I have burnt away my attachment for the worldly riches and powers.
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
sacho sachaa vaykh saalaahee gur sabdee sach paavni-aa. ||4||
Now by seeing the eternal God everywhere, I praise Him. Through the Guru’s word, I obtain the eternal God.||4||
(ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
jo sach raatay tin sachee liv laagee.
Those who are imbued with the love of the eternal God, they are truly attuned to Him.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਲਗਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
har naam samaaleh say vadbhaagee.
Those fortunates ones keep God’s Naam enshrined in their hearts.
ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sachai sabad aap milaa-ay satsangat sach gun gaavani-aa. ||5||
Through the True word of the Guru, God unites them with Himself , and in the company of saintly persons, they keep singing praises of the eternal God.||5||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥
ਲੇਖਾ ਪੜੀਐ ਜੇ ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
laykhaa parhee-ai jay laykhay vich hovai.
We might try to read God’s description (such as when He came to existence or when He created the universe ), if He were subject to any such description.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਲੇਖਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ।
ਓਹੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
oh agam agochar sabad suDh hovai.
That inaccessible and incomprehensible God can be realized only through the Guru’s word.
ਉਹ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਪਰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਅਗਾਧਤਾ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
an-din sach sabad saalaahee hor ko-ay na keemat paavni-aa. ||6||
Only the person, who always sings His praises through the Guru’s word, knows Him, no one else knows His worth. ||6||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ॥੬॥
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
parh parh thaakay saaNt na aa-ee.
People read and recite books about God until they grow weary, but they do not find mental peace.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਲੋਕ) ਥੱਕ ਗਏ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਸਕੇ, ਤੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ (ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਈ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਾਲੇ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
tarisnaa jaalay suDh na kaa-ee.
They are consumed by the fire of their worldly desires, and have no real wisdom.
ਸਗੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
ਬਿਖੁ ਬਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
bikh bihaajheh bikh moh pi-aasay koorh bol bikh khaavani-aa. ||7||
Such people simply remain absorbed in the love for the poison of worldly wealth and remain thirsty for this poison. By telling all kinds of lies they consume this poison of worldly wealth. ||7||
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ-ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹੀ ਇੱਕਠੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ) ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
gur parsaadee ayko jaanaa.
By Guru’s grace, I recognize the only One (God).
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ,
ਦੂਜਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
doojaa maar man sach samaanaa.
By subduing duality (love for anything other than God), I have merged my mind in the eternal God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੭॥੧੮॥
naanak ayko naam vartai man antar gur parsaadee paavni-aa. ||8||17||18||
O’ Nanak, one whose mind remains absorbed in God’S Name, realizes the presence of God within himself. ||8||17||18||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥੧੭॥੧੮॥

Maajh Raag, Third Guru
ਵਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
varan roop varteh sabh tayray.
All the different forms and colors, pervading in uncountable creatures of this universe are Your manifestation.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਹਨ ਇਹਨਾਂ) ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਰੂਪ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਰੰਗ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਫੇਰ ਪਵਹਿ ਘਣੇਰੇ ॥
mar mar jameh fayr paveh ghanayray.
These uncountable creatures keep dying and getting reborn again and again; they continue to make their rounds on the wheel of reincarnation.
(ਇਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਗੇੜ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤੂੰ ਏਕੋ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
tooN ayko nihchal agam apaaraa gurmatee boojh bujhaavani-aa. ||1||
You alone are immortal, incomprehensible and infinite. You impart this understanding through the Guru’s teachings.||1||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈਂ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ-ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੋਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree raam naam man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate my life to those who enshrine the God’s Name in their hearts.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਵਰਨੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis roop na raykh-i-aa varan na ko-ee gurmatee aap bujhaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God has no form, figure or color. Through the Guru’s teachings, He inspires us to understand Him.||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ ਚੱਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ॥
sabh aykaa jot jaanai jay ko-ee.
It is only One Divine Light that pervades in all His creation; but very few know this.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai pargat ho-ee.
This Divine light is revealed to the those who follow the teachings of the true Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜੋਤਿ) ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gupat pargat vartai sabh thaa-ee jotee jot milaavani-aa. ||2||
Visibly and invisibly; He pervades everywhere and it is He who ultimately merges all lights (souls) into His Light.||2||
ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਲੁਕਵੀਂ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੱਤਖ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
tisnaa agan jalai sansaaraa.
The entire world is burning and suffering in the fire of desire,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਲੋਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
lobh abhimaan bahut ahaNkaaraa.
People are overpowered by greed, arrogance and lot of ego.
(ਇਸ ਉੱਤੇ) ਲੋਭ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਏ ਅਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
mar mar janmai pat gavaa-ay apnee birthaa janam gavaavni-aa. ||3||
Afflicted with theses evils, people remain entangled in the cycles of birth and death, thus wasting the human birth in vain. ||3||
(ਇਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਗੇੜ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
gur kaa sabad ko virlaa boojhai.
Very rare (and fortunate) person understands the Guru’s Word (advise).
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ (ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
aap maaray taa taribhavan soojhai.
Only when one kills his ego, he can understand that God pervades through all the three worlds.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਦੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਫਿਰਿ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
fir oh marai na marnaa hovai sehjay sach samaavani-aa. ||4||
Then, one neither spiritually dies nor experiences such death again, but instead imperceptibly remains merged in eternal God. ||4||
(ਇਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ) ਮੁੜ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥
maa-i-aa meh fir chit na laa-ay.
Such a person no longer focuses his mind on worldly things.
(ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦਾ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad sad rahai samaa-ay.
Such a person always remains absorbed in the Guru’s word.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sach salaahay sabh ghat antar sacho sach suhaavani-aa. ||5||
He sings the praises of the True One, who is residing deep within all hearts. He is blessed and exalted by the Truest of the True (God). ||5||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰੇ ॥
sach saalaahee sadaa hajooray.
The person who praises the eternal God deems Him always very close.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਸਦਾ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥
gur kai sabad rahi-aa bharpooray.
Through the Guru’s word this person understands that God pervades everywhere.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
gur parsaadee sach nadree aavai sachay hee sukh paavni-aa. ||6||
By Guru’s grace, eternal God becomes visible to such person and from that eternal God Himself he obtains spiritual peace and joy.||6||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
sach man andar rahi-aa samaa-ay.
The eternal God abides within everyone’s heart.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧੁਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sadaa sach nihchal aavai na jaa-ay.
He (God) always is eternal and never goes into the cycle of birth and death
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਸਚੇ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sachay laagai so man nirmal gurmatee sach samaavani-aa. ||7||
Those who are attached to the True One are immaculate and pure. Through the Guru’s Teachings, they merge in the True One. ||7||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
sach saalaahee avar na ko-ee.
Sing the praises of only the eternal God, there is no one else like Him.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
jit sayvi-ai sadaa sukh ho-ee.
By meditating on whom with love and devotion, eternal spiritual peace and joy is experienced.
ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
