ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur sabad beechaareh aap jaa-ay.
If you reflect on the word of the Guru, your ego will depart,
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ,
ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥
saach jog man vasai aa-ay. ||8||
and the eternal God would manifest in your mind. ||8||
ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸੇਗਾ ॥੮॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jin jee-o pind ditaa tis cheeteh naahi.
You do not remember God, who gave you this body and soul.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ,
ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥
marhee masaanee moorhay jog naahi. ||9||
O’ fool, union with God is not attained by visiting cemeteries. ||9||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਮੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਮਸਾਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੯॥
ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥
gun naanak bolai bhalee baan.
Nanak chants the sublime divine words of God’s praises.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਮ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਖੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੧੦॥੫॥
tum hohu sujaakhay layho pachhaan. ||10||5||
With your spiritually enlightened eyes, recognize God pervading everywhere. ||10||5||
ਤੂੰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆ ਅਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈ ॥੧੦॥੫॥

Raag Basant, First Guru:
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਧੁਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
dubiDhaa durmat aDhulee kaar.
Because of evil intellect one becomes double minded about love for worldly wealth instead of God and does bad deeds.
ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਦੀ ਝਾਕ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੀ ਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥
manmukh bharmai majh gubaar. ||1||
And a self-willed person wanders lost in the darkness of spiritual ignorance. ||1||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
man anDhulaa anDhulee mat laagai.
The spiritually ignorant mind follows the intellect blinded by materialism,
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੱਤ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur karnee bin bharam na bhaagai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and this doubt of the mind does not go away without doing deeds according to the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
manmukh anDhulay gurmat na bhaa-ee.
The spiritually ignorant mind of a self-willed persons does not like the teachings of the Guru.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦਿੱਤੀ) ਮੱਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
pasoo bha-ay abhimaan na jaa-ee. ||2||
They become like beast, whose arrogance does not go away. ||2||
(ਉਹ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਸ਼ੂ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਕੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh jant upaa-ay.
God created many million species of beings.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ,
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
mayray thaakur bhaanay siraj samaa-ay. ||3||
My Master, by the pleasure of His will, creates and destroys them. ||3||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
saglee bhoolai nahee sabad achaar.
The entire world has gone astray because people do not live righteously in accordance with the Guru’s divine word,
ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਕੋ ਲੋਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ,
ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
so samjhai jis gur kartaar. ||4||
but he alone understands this thing who is blessed by the Divine-Guru. ||4||
ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਹਬਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
gur kay chaakar thaakur bhaanay.
Those who follow the Guru’s teachings are pleasing to the Master-God.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥
bakhas lee-ay naahee jam kaanay. ||5||
They no longer fear the demons (evil thoughts) because God has bestowed grace on them. ||5||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
jin kai hirdai ayko bhaa-i-aa.
Those in whose heart only God is pleasing,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
aapay maylay bharam chukaa-i-aa. ||6||
God Himself dispels their doubts and unites them with Himself. ||6||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
baymuhtaaj bay-ant apaaraa.
God is not dependent on any one, He is infinite and limitless.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੇ-ਮੁਥਾਜ ਹੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
sach pateejai karnaihaaraa. ||7||
The Creator of the universe is pleased only by truthful living. ||7||
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
naanak bhoolay gur samjhaavai.
O’ Nanak, one who has gone astray in the love for Maya, the Guru puts him on the righteous path,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ) ਸਮਝਾਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥
ayk dikhaavai saach tikaavai. ||8||6||
implants truthful living within him and causes him to experience God. ||8||6||
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੱਚ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥੮॥੬॥

Raag Basant, First Guru:
ਆਪੇ ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲ ਬੇਲਿ ॥
aapay bhavraa fool bayl.
God Himself is the bumblebee, Himself the flower and Himself the vine.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਭੌਰਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੇਲ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੇਲਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਉੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਫੁੱਲ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੀਤ ਮੇਲਿ ॥੧॥
aapay sangat meet mayl. ||1||
God Himself is the holy congregation and He Himself brings the congregant friends together. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਤ ਸੰਗੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਭਵਰਾ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇ ॥
aisee bhavraa baas lay.
As a bumble bee, God Himself so enjoys their fragrance,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭੋਰਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਐਸੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਰਵਰ ਫੂਲੇ ਬਨ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tarvar foolay ban haray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that all trees and forests seem blossoming. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਹਰੇ ਤੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
aapay kavlaa kant aap.
God Himself is Lakshmi (the goddess of wealth), Himself her husband (Vishnu).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੱਛਮੀ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥੨॥
aapay raavay sabad thaap. ||2||
God Himself creates everything by His command and Himself enjoys them. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਆਪੇ ਬਛਰੂ ਗਊ ਖੀਰੁ ॥
aapay bachhroo ga-oo kheer.
God Himself is the calf, the cow and the milk.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੱਛਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗਾਂ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਧ ਹੈ l
ਆਪੇ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩॥
aapay mandar thamh sareer. ||3||
God Himself is the support (soul) of the temple (body). ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਥੰਮ੍ਹ ਹੈ, (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਰੀਰ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
aapay karnee karanhaar.
God Himself is doer and the deed (which is worth doing).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ l
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
aapay gurmukh kar beechaar. ||4||
God Himself follows the Guru’s teachings and reflects upon His own virtues. ||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
too kar kar daykheh karanhaar.
O’ God, after creating (everything), You look after it.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਜੋਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਅਸੰਖ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
jot jee-a asaNkh day-ay aDhaar. ||5||
O’ God! You give life and sustenance to infinite number of creatures. ||5||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ॥੫॥
ਤੂ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥
too sar saagar gun gaheer.
O’ God! You are an unfathomable ocean of Virtue.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੬॥
too akul niranjan param heer. ||6||
O’ God! You are without any linage, You are immaculate because you are not affected by the Maya and You are like the most sublime jewel. ||6||
ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੬॥
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
too aapay kartaa karan jog.
O’ God, You Yourself are the Creator who can do anything.
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੭॥
nihkayval raajan sukhee log. ||7||
O’ God! You are the Sovereign king, and people under Your jurisdiction enjoy inner peace. ||7||
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਤੂੰ ਸੁੰਤਤਰ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਦਿ ॥
naanak Dharaapay har naam su-aad.
O’ Nanak, one who is satiated with the taste of the elixir of God’s Name,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੮॥੭॥
bin har gur pareetam janam baad. ||8||7||
(believes that) without the beloved Divine-Guru, this life goes in vain. ||8||7||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੭॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਉ ਸਤ ਚਉਦਹ ਤੀਨਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਹਲਤਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਹਾਲੀ ॥
na-o sat cha-odah teen chaar kar mahlat chaar bahaalee.
O’ God, after creating nine regions, seven continents, fourteen worlds, three modes of Maya and four yugas, You populated these with creation from the four sources of life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨੌ ਖੰਡ, ਸੱਤ ਦੀਪ, ਚੌਦਾਂ ਭਵਨ, ਤਿੰਨ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਜੁਗ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਸ ਸ਼੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ- ਹਵੇਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਚਾਰੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਦੀਏ ਏਕਾ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
chaaray deevay chahu hath dee-ay aykaa aykaa vaaree. ||1||
You gave four Vedas as lamps of knowledge, one in each of the four Yugas. ||1||
ਤੂੰ (ਚਾਰ ਵੇਦ-ਰੂਪ) ਚਾਰ ਦੀਵੇ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਫੜਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੧॥
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮਾਧੌ ਐਸੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
miharvaan maDhusoodan maaDhou aisee sakat tumHaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ merciful God, the destroyer of demons, the master of the goddess of wealth, such is Your great Power (that we are amazed). ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥
ghar ghar laskar paavak tayraa Dharam karay sikdaaree.
In each and every body is present Your light, and all these beings are like Your army, upon them the judge of righteousness has the sovereignty.
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ) ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਸਰਦਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕ ਵੇਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Dhartee dayg milai ik vayraa bhaag tayraa bhandaaree. ||2||
This earth is like the big cauldron, from which everyone gets the inexhaustible sustenance, but everyone gets their share according to his destiny. ||2||
ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ -ਰੂਪ ਦੇਗ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕੋ ਵਾਰੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਅਖੁੱਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ਵਰਤਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
naa saaboor hovai fir mangai naarad karay khu-aaree.
The uncontented mercurial mind of a person keeps asking for more and lands him into trouble.
ਨਾਰਦ (ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਚੰਚਲ ਮਨ) ਬੇ-ਸਬਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਮੁੜ ਯਾਂਚਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
