ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
in biDh ih man hari-aa ho-ay.
The way by which a person’s mind spiritually rejuvenate is,
ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har naam japai din raatee gurmukh ha-umai kadhai Dho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that he always remembers God’s Name through the Guru’s teachings, and drives out the dirt of ego from within. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
satgur banee sabad sunaa-ay.
The true Guru’s word recites the divine message,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥੨॥
ih jag hari-aa satgur bhaa-ay. ||2||
and imbued with the love of the true Guru, this world spiritually blooms. ||2||
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਾ-ਭਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਫਲ ਫੂਲ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਾਂ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
fal fool laagay jaaN aapay laa-ay.
One’s life flourishes with virtues and bliss only when God Himself blesses.
ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਫਲ (ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੂਲਿ ਲਗੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
mool lagai taaN satgur paa-ay. ||3||
When one is focused on God, creator of the universe, then he meets with the true Guru. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪਿ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਵਾੜੀ ॥
aap basant jagat sabh vaarhee.
God Himself is Basant, the spring season, and the entire world is like his garden.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਬਗੀਚੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ-ਭਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਬਸੰਤ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੭॥
naanak poorai bhaag bhagat niraalee. ||4||5||17||
O’ Nanak, only the one with perfect destiny is blessed with the unique devotional worship of God. ||4||5||17||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਦੁਤੀ ਹਰਿ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੫॥੧੭॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
gur kee banee vitahu vaari-aa bhaa-ee gur sabad vitahu bal jaa-ee.
O’ brother, I am dedicated to the Guru’s divine word and his teachings.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦ ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥
gur saalaahee sad apnaa bhaa-ee gur charnee chit laa-ee. ||1||
O’ brother, I always praise my Guru and I keep my mind focused on his immaculate words. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
mayray man raam naam chit laa-ay.
O’ my mind, focus your attention on God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ l
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਇਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man tan tayraa hari-aa hovai ik har naamaa fal paa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Your mind and body would spiritually bloom in happiness by receiving the fruit of God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਪਏਗਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਨ ਖਿੜ ਪਏਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਇ ॥
gur raakhay say ubray bhaa-ee har ras amrit pee-aa-ay.
O’ brother, whom the Guru protected by giving the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name, they got liberated from the love for Maya.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਉਠਿ ਗਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਵੁਠਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
vichahu ha-umai dukh uth ga-i-aa bhaa-ee sukh vuthaa man aa-ay. ||2||
O’ brother, the agony of ego has vanished from within and celestial peace has come to abide in their mind. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਧੁਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੋ ਬਖਸਿਓਨੁ ਭਾਈ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Dhur aapay jinHaa no bakhsi-on bhaa-ee sabday la-i-an milaa-ay.
O’ brother, those who were preordained with divine grace, God has united them with Himself through the Guru’s word.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਕੀ ਅਘੁਲੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
Dhoorh tinHaa kee aghulee-ai bhaa-ee satsangat mayl milaa-ay. ||3||
O’ brother, we get emancipated by the dust of their feet; those on whom God bestows grace, unites them with Himself by uniting with holy congregation. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਲ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
aap karaa-ay karay aap bhaa-ee jin hari-aa kee-aa sabh ko-ay.
O’ brother, God who has bestowed (spiritual) prosperity to all, He Himself does and gets everything done.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਭਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਦ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੮॥੧੨॥੧੮॥੩੦॥
naanak man tan sukh sad vasai bhaa-ee sabad milaavaa ho-ay. ||4||1||18||12||18||30||
O’ Nanak, one whose union with God takes place through the Guru’s word, his mind and body blossom in peace. ||4||1||18||12||18||30||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੮॥੧੨॥੧੮॥੩੦॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਪਸਰੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਜੋਤਿ ॥
ji-o pasree sooraj kiran jot.
Just as the light of the sun’s ray is spread everywhere,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਣ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਖਿਲਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਉ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ॥੧॥
ti-o ghat ghat rama-ee-aa ot pot. ||1||
similarly the all pervading God is permeating through and through in each and every heart. ||1||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰਾਮ ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਏਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਥਾਇ ॥
ayko har ravi-aa sarab thaa-ay.
Even though the same one God is pervading everywhere,
(ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur sabdee milee-ai mayree maa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
still, O’ my mother, He can be realized only through the Guru’s word. ||1||Pause||
(ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
ghat ghat antar ayko har so-ay.
Although, the same one God dwells in each and every heart,
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਇਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
gur mili-ai ik pargat ho-ay. ||2||
still, He manifests only by meeting the Guru and following his teachings. ||2||
ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
ayko ayk rahi-aa bharpoor.
The one and only one God is pervading everywhere,
ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਲੋਭੀ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੩॥
saakat nar lobhee jaaneh door. ||3||
but the greedy faithless-cynics think that He is far off. ||3||
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਇ ॥
ayko ayk vartai har lo-ay.
The one and only one God pervades the entire world,
ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak har ayko karay so ho-ay. ||4||1||
O’ Nanak, whatever God does, that alone comes to pass. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Basant, Fourth Guru:
ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਦੇ ਪਏ ॥
rain dinas du-ay saday pa-ay.
Each passing night and day is sending a call for death to the mortal.
ਰਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਉਮਰ ਬੀਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮੌਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ)।
ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਖਿ ਲਏ ॥੧॥
man har simrahu ant sadaa rakh la-ay. ||1||
O’ my mind, lovingly remember God who always protects in the end. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
har har chayt sadaa man mayray.
O’ my mind, always lovingly remember God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਸਭੁ ਆਲਸੁ ਦੂਖ ਭੰਜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabh aalas dookh bhanj parabh paa-i-aa gurmat gaavhu gun parabh kayray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God, the destroyer of laziness and all suffering, is realized by remembering Him; therefore, sing praises of God by following the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਲਸ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਏ ॥
manmukh fir fir ha-umai mu-ay.
The self-willed persons die (spiritually deteriorate) again and again because of their ego.
