ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
dar saachai sach sobhaa ho-ay.
One in whose heart is enshrined the eternal God, is honored in His presence,
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
nij ghar vaasaa paavai so-ay. ||3||
and he attains a place in his own inner being. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
aap abhul sachaa sach so-ay.
O’ brother, God Himself is infallible; He is nothing but Truth.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਰਿ ਸਭਿ ਭੂਲਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
hor sabh bhooleh doojai pat kho-ay.
All others make mistakes and lose honor in the love of duality.
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੁਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦਵੈਤ ਭਾਵ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਜਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
saachaa sayvhu saachee banee.
O’ brother, lovingly remember God by following the Guru’s word,
ਸੱਚੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak naamay saach samaanee. ||4||9||
O’ Nanak, by remembering Naam with adoration, one’s mind remains absorbed in God. ||4||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ , ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥

Raag Basant, Third Guru:
ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
bin karmaa sabh bharam bhulaa-ee.
Without God’s grace, the entire world is lost in illusion,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੀ (ਲੋਕਾਈ) ਨੂੰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਨੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi bahut dukh paa-ee.
and it endures great misery by getting captivated by worldly attachments.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕਾਈ) ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
manmukh anDhay tha-ur na paa-ee.
The spiritually ignorant self-willed person finds no place for the peace of mind.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਆਪ ਹੁਦਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
bistaa kaa keerhaa bistaa maahi samaa-ee. ||1||
He remains engrossed in vices like a worm of filth. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਗੰਦ ਦਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
hukam mannay so jan parvaan.
One who happily accepts God’s will, is approved in His presence,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kai sabad naam neesaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because he receives the insignia of Naam through the Guru’s word. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ , ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਨੀਸ਼ਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
saach ratay jinHaa Dhur likh paa-i-aa.
Those who have such preordained destiny, remain imbued with God’s love.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
har kaa naam sadaa man bhaa-i-aa.
God’s Name is always pleasing to their mind.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
satgur kee banee sadaa sukh ho-ay.
By reflecting on the true Guru’s divine word, they always enjoy inner peace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
jotee jot milaa-ay so-ay. ||2||
The Guru’s divine word unites their light (soul) with the Divine light. ||2||
ਬਾਣੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
ayk naam taaray sansaar.
Only God’s Name can ferry the entire world through the world-ocean of vices,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ-ਭਰੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gur parsaadee naam pi-aar.
but the love for God’s Name wells up only by the Guru’s grace.
ਪਰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
bin naamai mukat kinai na paa-ee.
No one has ever achieved freedom from vices without God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
pooray gur tay naam palai paa-ee. ||3||
The gift of Naam is received only from the perfect Guru. ||3||
ਨਾਮ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
so boojhai jis aap bujhaa-ay.
He alone understands the righteous way of living, whom God Himself makes to understand.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਏ ॥
satgur sayvaa naam darirh-aa-ay.
God instills Naam in him by engaging him to follow the Guru’s teachings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jin ik jaataa say jan parvaan.
Those who have realized God, are approved in God’s presence.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
naanak naam ratay dar neesaan. ||4||10||
O’ Nanak, those who were imbued with the love of Naam, received honor in God’s presence. ||4||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਗਏ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Basant, Third Guru:
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
kirpaa karay satguroo milaa-ay.
One upon whom God bestows mercy, He unites that person with the true Guru,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
aapay aap vasai man aa-ay.
and then on His own, He Himself manifests in that person’s mind.
(ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਧੀਰ ॥
nihchal mat sadaa man Dheer.
The intellect of that person becomes stable against the onslaught of vices, there is always contentment in his mind,
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਧੀਰਜ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰ ॥੧॥
har gun gaavai gunee gaheer. ||1||
and he keeps singing praises of God of infinite virtues. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਮਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਮਰਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
naamhu bhoolay mareh bikh khaa-ay.
People strayed from Naam, deteriorate spiritually by remaining engrossed in the love for materialism, the poison for spiritual life.
ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ|
ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baritha janam fir aavahi jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Their life goes in vain and they fall in the cycle of birth and death. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਅਵਾਗਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਹੁ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
baho bhaykh karahi man saaNt na ho-ay.
Those who merely resort to many religious garbs and rituals, their mind never achieve tranquility,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੇ) ਕਈ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਬਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
baho abhimaan apnee pat kho-ay.
and lose their honor because of the excessive egotistical pride (of these garbs).
(ਭੇਖ ਦੇ) ਬਹੁਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥
say vadbhaagee jin sabad pachhaani-aa.
Very fortunate are those who have understood the Guru’s word,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਦਾ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
baahar jaadaa ghar meh aani-aa. ||2||
and have brought their wandering mind under control. ||2||
ਤੇ, ਬਾਹਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਲ ਮੋੜ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
ghar meh vasat agam apaaraa.
The wealth of the Name of the incomprehensible and infinite God is present right within the heart.
ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
gurmat khojeh sabad beechaaraa.
Those who search for the wealth of Naam by reflecting on the divine word of God’s praises through the Guru’s teachings,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
naam nav niDh paa-ee ghar hee maahi.
they have found Naam, the treasures of the world, within their Heart.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ) ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ।
ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
sadaa rang raatay sach samaahi. ||3||
They always remain imbued with God’s love and merge with Him. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ॥੩॥
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
aap karay kichh karan na jaa-ay.
God Himself does everything, nobody else can do anything by himself.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ) ਕੁਝ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
aapay bhaavai la-ay milaa-ay.
When it pleases God, He unites a person with Himself.
ਜਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਊਦਾ ਹੈ, ਊਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
tis tay nayrhai naahee ko door.
Neither one is near him, nor one is away from Him.
ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
naanak naam rahi-aa bharpoor. ||4||11||
O’ Nanak! one who remains absorbed in remembering God’s Name, visualizes Him pervading everywhere. ||4||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

Raag Basant, Third Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
gur sabdee har chayt subhaa-ay.
By lovingly remembering God through the Guru’s divine word,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਰਹੈ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
raam naam ras rahai aghaa-ay.
one remains satiated with the bliss of God’s Name.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਟ ਕੋਟੰਤਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
kot kotantar kay paap jal jaahi.
The sins of millions of lifetimes of those people are burnt down,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
jeevat mareh har naam samaahi. ||1||
who remain free from the love for worldly desires while still performing their worldly responsibilities (as if they are dead while still alive) and remain absorbed in God’s Name. ||1||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
har kee daat har jee-o jaanai.
Only God knows to whom He has to give the gift of Naam.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kai sabad ih man ma-oli-aa har gundaataa naam vakhaanai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One whose mind is blossomed through the Guru’s word, utters the Name of God, the bestower of virtues. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਬਦ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਬਖਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
ਭਗਵੈ ਵੇਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhagvai vays bharam mukat na ho-ay.
Freedom from vices is not received by wearing saffron colored garbs and wandering around.
ਭਗਵੇ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਭੇਖ ਨਾਲ (ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ) ਭੌਂ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਬਹੁ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
baho sanjam saaNt na paavai ko-ay.
No one can find tranquility of mind by strict self-penance.
ਕਠਨ ਤਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
gurmat naam paraapat ho-ay.
Naam is received only by following the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
vadbhaagee har paavai so-ay. ||2||
and fortunate is that person who realizes God. ||2||
ਭਾਰੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kal meh raam naam vadi-aa-ee.
The honor in the world (kalyug) is achieved by remembering God’s Name,
ਇਸ ਬਖੇੜਿਆਂ-ਭਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
