ਪਰਪੰਚ ਵੇਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥
parpanch vaykh rahi-aa vismaad.
Looking at the expanse of the world, a devotee of God goes into ecstasy,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ‘ਵਾਹ ਵਾਹ’ ਕਰ ਉੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁ ॥੩॥
gurmukh paa-ee-ai naam parsaad. ||3||
but the gift of God’s Name is received only by following the Guru’s teachings. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥
aapay kartaa sabh ras bhog.
(By pervading all) the Creator-God Himself is rejoicing in all the delights.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਹੋਗ ॥
jo kichh karay so-ee par hog.
Whatever God does, surely comes to pass.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥
vadaa daataa til na tamaa-ay.
God alone is the greatest benefactor and has not even an iota of greed.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੬॥
naanak milee-ai sabad kamaa-ay. ||4||6||
O’ Nanak! God can be realized only by living by the Guru’s divine word. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਢਾਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

Raag Basant, Third Guru:
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
poorai bhaag sach kaar kamaavai.
O’ my friends, being blessed with the perfect destiny, one who does noble deeds,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਏਕੋ ਚੇਤੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ayko chaytai fir jon na aavai.
and lovingly remembers God alone, he does not go through reincarnations.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
safal janam is jag meh aa-i-aa.
Fruitful is the advent of that person in this world,
ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
saach naam sahj samaa-i-aa. ||1||
who in a state of spiritual poise, remains absorbed in God’s Name. ||1||
ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
gurmukh kaar karahu liv laa-ay.
O’ my friends, by following Guru’s word, perform the deed of lovingly remembering God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har naam sayvhu vichahu aap gavaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Erase self-conceit from within and lovingly remember God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ।॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
tis jan kee hai saachee banee.
O’ my friends, that person’s speech is true,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
gur kai sabad jag maahi samaanee.
and it spreads throughout the world because it is in line with the Guru’s word.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਕੂਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ, ਇਹ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਚੱਲਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਪਸਰੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
chahu jug pasree saachee so-ay.
That person’s true glory spreads throughout the four ages,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਿਲਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naam rataa jan pargat ho-ay. ||2||
imbued with the love of God’s Name, he becomes acclaimed in the world ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਇਕਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
ik saachai sabad rahay liv laa-ay.
There are many people who remain focused on the divine word of God’s praises.
ਕਈ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
say jan saachay saachai bhaa-ay.
But true are those devotees who are pleasing to God.
ਸੱਚੇ ਹਨ ਊਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
saach Dhi-aa-in daykh hajoor.
Visualizing God around them, they keep remembering Him with adoration,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਪੰਕਜ ਧੂਰਿ ॥੩॥
sant janaa kee pag pankaj Dhoor. ||3||
and consider themselves so humble as if they are the dust of the lotus-like feet of saints. ||3||
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ ਵਰਗੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੩॥
ਏਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ayko kartaa avar na ko-ay.
O’ my friends, God alone is the creator and none else,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur sabdee maylaavaa ho-ay.
and union with Him takes place by following the Guru’s word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jin sach sayvi-aa tin ras paa-i-aa.
One who has lovingly remembered God, has rejoiced in spiritual bliss.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੭॥
naanak sehjay naam samaa-i-aa. ||4||7||
O’ Nanak, in a state of spiritual poise, he remains merged in Naam. ||4||7||
ਹੇਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥

ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

O’ my friends, the devotees visualizing God around them, perform His devotional worship,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਪੰਕਜ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
sant janaa kee pag pankaj Dhoor.

har saytee sad raheh liv laa-ay.
They always keep their mind focused on God,
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੧॥
poorai satgur dee-aa bujhaa-ay. ||1||
because the true Guru has imparted this understanding to them. ||1||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਇ ॥
daasaa kaa daas virlaa ko-ee ho-ay.
Only a rare person becomes the servant of God’s devotees,
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ootam padvee paavai so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and he receives the supreme spiritual status. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ayko sayvhu avar na ko-ay.
Always lovingly remember God because there is no one other like Him,
ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jit sayvi-ai sadaa sukh ho-ay.
by remembering whom with adoration, the inner peace remains forever.
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
naa oh marai na aavai jaa-ay.
God neither dies, nor goes through the cycle of birth and death,
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਕਿਉ ਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
tis bin avar sayvee ki-o maa-ay. ||2||
O’ my mother, why should I remember anyone else except for Him? ||2||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਾਂ? ॥੨॥
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥
say jan saachay jinee saach pachhaani-aa.
True and immaculate are the lives of those who have recognized God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਉਹ ਅਟੱਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣਿਆ ॥
aap maar sehjay naam samaani-aa.
They have intuitively immersed in God’s Name by eradicating their self-conceit.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
gurmukh naam paraapat ho-ay.
God is realized by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
man nirmal nirmal sach so-ay. ||3||
(And one who realizes God,) his mind becomes immaculate and he visualizes the immaculate God everywhere. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
jin gi-aan kee-aa tis har too jaan.
O’ brother! understand God who has given you the divine knowledge,
ਹੇਭਾਈ ਜਿਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖ,
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਞਾਣੁ ॥
saach sabad parabh ayk sinjaan.
and through the Guru’s divine word, realize that one God.
ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਛਾਣ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
har ras chaakhai taaN suDh ho-ay.
When one tastes the sublime essence of God’s Name, only then he understands about the righteous living.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak naam ratay sach so-ay. ||4||8||
O’ Nanak, imbued with the love of Naam, they visualize God everywhere. ||4||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੮॥

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥
naam ratay kulaaN kaa karahi uDhaar.
People imbued with God’s Name, emancipate their generations as well.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀਆਂਕੁਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
saachee banee naam pi-aar.
They are in love with the divine words of the eternal God’s praises.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਆਏ ॥
manmukh bhoolay kaahay aa-ay.
Being astrayed, why these self-willed people even came to this world?
ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਮਨਮਤੀਏ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਹੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਹਨ?
ਨਾਮਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੧॥
naamhu bhoolay janam gavaa-ay. ||1||
Forgetting Naam, they waste their human life. ||1||
ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥
jeevat marai mar maran savaarai.
That person remains aloof from the love for Maya while taking care of his worldly responsibilities, and embellishes his death by remaining detached from the vices.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਵਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kai sabad saach ur Dhaarai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Such a person enshrines the eternal God’s Name in his heart by reflecting on the Guru’s divine word. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
gurmukh sach bhojan pavit sareeraa.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and makes God’s Name as his spiritual food, his body becomes pure (engages in good deeds)
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ|
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥
man nirmal sad gunee gaheeraa.
his mind becomes immaculate and God, the ocean of virtues, dwells within him.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ ਸਦਾ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜੰਮੈ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
jammai marai na aavai jaa-ay.
Such a person does not go through the cycle of birth and death,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur parsaadee saach samaa-ay. ||2||
and by the Guru’s grace, he remains merged in God. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
saachaa sayvhu saach pachhaanai.
O’ my friends, lovingly remember God; one who does that, he realizes the eternal God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਜੋ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥
gur kai sabad har dar neesaanai.
and by reflecting on Guru’s word, he reaches in the presence of God with honor.
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
