ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਖੋਟਾ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
manmukh khotee raas khotaa paasaaraa.
The self-willed persons earn false (worldly) wealth and make false display of their possessions, which is not acceptable in God’s court.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਉਹੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਰੱਬੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
koorh kamaavan dukh laagai bhaaraa
By earning false worldly wealth, They are afflicted with severe sufferings.
ਉਹ ਨਿਰੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਫਿਰਨਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
bharmay bhoolay phiran din raat amar janmeh janam gavaavni-aa. ||7||
Lost in doubts, they wander day and night. They waste their human life by dying and taking birth again and again.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
sachaa saahib mai at pi-aaraa.
My eternal God is very dear to me.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
pooray gur kai sabad aDhaaraa.
The word of the Perfect Guru is my Support.
ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੦॥੧੧॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee dukh sukh sam kar jaanni-aa. ||8||10||11||
O’ Nanak, it is only through God’s Name that one achieves glory, and is able to accept pain and pleasure alike.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ) ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ

Maajh Raag, by the Third Guru:
ਤੇਰੀਆ ਖਾਣੀ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
tayree-aa khaanee tayree-aa banee.
O’ God, all the four sources of life and different species are created by You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਹਨ ਚਾਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਊਤਪਤੀ ਤੇ ਸੋਮੇ (ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ-ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਖਾਣਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਈਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ)। ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਣਤਰ (ਰਚਨਾ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥
bin naavai sabh bharam bhulaanee.
But without meditating on Your Name, they all are lost in delusion.
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
gur sayvaa tay har naam paa-i-aa bin satgur ko-ay na paavni-aa. ||1||
The Naam is realized by following the Guru’s words. No one can realize God without the True Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਸਾਈਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree har saytee chit laavani-aa.
I am totally dedicated to those who attune their mind to God.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har sachaa gur bhagtee paa-ee-ai sehjay man vasaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through devotion to the Guru, the True One is realized; He comes to dwell in the mind, with intuitive ease.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਰੱਖਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
satgur sayvay taa sabh kichh paa-ay.
One obtains everything by following the True Guru’s teachings.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇਹੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਤੇਹਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jayhee mansaa kar laagai tayhaa fal paa-ay.
With whatever expectation one comes to the Guru’s refuge, one obtains the fruit accordingly.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਵਥੂ ਕਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
satgur daataa sabhnaa vathoo kaa poorai bhaag milaavani-aa. ||2||
The true Guru is the giver of everything. Through perfect destiny God unites a person with the Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਕੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
ih man mailaa ik na Dhi-aa-ay.
This mind is polluted with the filth of vices; it does not meditate on God.
ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਲ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਏ ॥
antar mail laagee baho doojai bhaa-ay.
Deep within, one is soiled and stained by the love of duality.
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਮੈਲ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਭਵੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਵਧੇਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
tat tirath disantar bhavai ahaNkaaree hor vaDhayrai ha-umai mal laavani-aa. ||3||
The egotists may go on pilgrimages to holy rivers, sacred shrines and foreign lands, but they only gather more dirt of egotism.
ਮਗਰੂਰ ਬੰਦਾ, ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਕਿਨਾਰਿਆਂ, ਧਰਮ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਟਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਹੋਰ ਮੈਲ ਚਿਮੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
satgur sayvay taa mal jaa-ay.
By following True Guru’s word, the dirt and filth of vices goes away.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
jeevat marai har si-o chit laa-ay.
The one who attunes his mind on God, while performing his moral duties eradicates his self conceit, as if he has died while still alive,
ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
har nirmal sach mail na laagai sach laga mail gavaavni-aa. ||4||
God is eternal and immaculate; no filth sticks to Him. The one who attunes oneself to Him, gets rid of the dirt of vices.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ਼ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
baajh guroo hai anDh gubaaraa.
Without the Guru’s teaching, there is total darkness of ignorance.
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
agi-aanee anDhaa anDh anDhaaraa.
Without the Guru’s teachings one remains completely blind in the love of Maya.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਉਸ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
bistaa kay keerhay bistaa kamaaveh fir bistaa maahi pachaavani-aa. ||5||
Such a person is like worms of filth, they gather filth and are consumed in filth.
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਹੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਗੰਦ ਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ, ਗੰਦ ਖਾਣ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
muktay sayvay muktaa hovai.
The person who follows the emancipated Guru, also emancipates himself.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਮੁਕਤ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
ha-umai mamtaa sabday khovai.
Through the Guru’s word, he sheds all ego and emotional attachment to Maya.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
an-din har jee-o sachaa sayvee poorai bhaag gur paavni-aa. ||6||
Following the Guru’s word he always lovingly meditates on the eternal God. But only by perfect destiny, one meets the Guru.
ਗੁਰ-ਸਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
aapay bakhsay mayl milaa-ay.
God unites that one with the Guru, on whom He Himself becomes gracious.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
pooray gur tay naam niDh paa-ay.
That one obtains the treasure of Naam from the Perfect Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sachai naam sadaa man sachaa sach sayvay dukh gavaavni-aa. ||7||
By always attuning to God’s Name, the mind becomes free from the vices. By lovingly meditating on the eternal God one gets rid of all sorrows.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ (ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥
sadaa hajoor door na jaanhu.
He is always close at hand, do not think that He is far away.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝੋ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ॥
gur sabdee har antar pachhaanhu.
Through the Guru’s word, realize Him within yourself.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਾਓ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੧॥੧੨॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee pooray gur tay paavni-aa. ||8||11||12||
O’ Nanak, it’s only through Naam that honor and glory is obtained here and in God’s court. Naam is obtained only from the Perfect Guru.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਐਥੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਸਾਚੇ ॥
aithai saachay so aagai saachay.
Those who are true here (their mind is absorbed in the Naam), remain true hereafter as well (united with God)
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਚੇ ॥
man sachaa sachai sabad raachay.
Those who remain absorbed in the Divine word, their mind becomes free from the vices.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰਚੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sachaa sayveh sach kamaaveh sacho sach kamaavani-aa. ||1||
They lovingly meditate on God, do only righteous deeds and earn the wealth of Naam.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree sachaa naam man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who enshrine the eternal Name of God in their heart.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sachay sayveh sach samaaveh sachay kay gun gaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
They, who lovingly meditate on the eternal God, remain merged with the True One by singing His Glorious Praises.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਹਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
pandit parheh saad na paavahi.
The Pandits read and study the scriptures, but they do not relish the bliss.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ (ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ (ਤਾਂ) ਹਨ (ਪਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ l
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਭਰਮਾਵਹਿ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay maa-i-aa man bharmaaveh.
In love with duality, they mislead their mind towards Maya.
ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲ ਹੀ ਦੁੜਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਧਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
maa-i-aa mohi sabh suDh gavaa-ee kar avgan pachhotaavani-aa. ||2||
In the love of Maya, they lose their mind, committing evils they regret.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸੂਝ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਔਗੁਣ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਤਤੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
satgur milai taa tat paa-ay.
When one meets the True Guru, then he realizes the essence of Naam;
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
har kaa naam man vasaa-ay.
and enshrines God’s Name in the mind
ਅਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
