ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
tin kartai ik chalat upaa-i-aa.
The Creator-God has created this world as a wondrous play.
(ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥
anhad banee sabad sunaa-i-aa.
God recited the non stop melody of divine word to beings (through the Guru).
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥
manmukh bhoolay gurmukh bujhaa-i-aa.
The self-willed people remain strayed from the righteous path, but God blesses the understanding about righteous living to the Guru’s followers.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖੁੰਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
kaaran kartaa kardaa aa-i-aa. ||1||
The Creator-God has always been creating such circumstances. ||1||
ਇਹ ਸਬਬ ਕਰਤਾਰ (ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ) ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
gur kaa sabad mayrai antar Dhi-aan.
The Guru’s word is so enshrined in my inner conscience,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਉ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ha-o kabahu na chhoda-o har kaa naam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that I would never forsake God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਂ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਪੜਣ ਪਠਾਇਆ ॥
pitaa parahlaad parhan pathaa-i-aa.
Prahalad’s father sent him to school to study.
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਦੇ ਪਿਉ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਪਾਠਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਵਿਚ) ਘੱਲਿਆ।
ਲੈ ਪਾਟੀ ਪਾਧੇ ਕੈ ਆਇਆ ॥
lai paatee paaDhay kai aa-i-aa.
Prahalad took his writing tablet and approached his teacher.
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਪੱਟੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਾਂਧੇ ਕੋਲ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹ ਪੜਉ ਅਚਾਰ ॥
naam binaa nah parha-o achaar.
Prehlaad told his teacher that except for learning to remember God, I am not interested in learning any worldly ways,
(ਪਾਂਧੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਣ ਲੱਗੇ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ-) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਂਗਾ,
ਮੇਰੀ ਪਟੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
mayree patee-aa likh dayh gobind muraar. ||2||
therefore, just write God’s Name on my wooden tablet. ||2||
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੱਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਲਿਖ ਦਿਹੁ ॥੨॥
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਾਇ ॥
putar par-hilaad si-o kahi-aa maa-ay.
Prahalad’s mother said to her son Prehlaad,
ਮਾਂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ-
ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪੜਹੁ ਰਹੀ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥
parvirat na parhahu rahee samjhaa-ay.
advising him not to study about God contrary to his father’s wishes.
ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ) ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਨਾਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ (ਬਥੇਰਾ) ਸਮਝਾ ਰਹੀ।
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
nirbha-o daataa har jee-o mayrai naal.
But Prehlaad told her mother that the reverend God who has no fear and is the only benefactor is always with me.
(ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੇ ਇਹੀ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ-) ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਡਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ।ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ,
ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਛੋਡਉ ਤਉ ਕੁਲਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਗਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
jay har chhoda-o ta-o kul laagai gaal. ||3||
If I abandon God, then it would bring disgrace to our entire lineage. ||3||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਛੱਡ ਦਿਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਲ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦਾਗ਼ ਲੱਗੇਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦਿ ਸਭਿ ਚਾਟੜੇ ਵਿਗਾਰੇ ॥
parahlaad sabh chaatrhay vigaaray.
The teachers realized that Prehlaad has spoiled other students,
(ਪਾਂਧਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੇ (ਤਾਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ,
ਹਮਾਰਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
hamaaraa kahi-aa na sunai aapnay kaaraj savaaray.
he does not listen to what we say but keeps trying to fulfill his own objective of meditating on God and motivating others too,
ਸਾਡਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਇਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਠੀਕ ਕਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥
sabh nagree meh bhagat darirhaa-ee.
and he has implanted devotional worship in the people of the entire town.
ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੪॥
dusat sabhaa kaa kichh na vasaa-ee. ||4||
The wicked people could not do anything to change Prahalad’s mind. ||4||
ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੁੰਡੀ ਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਉੱਤੇ) ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ॥੪॥
ਸੰਡੈ ਮਰਕੈ ਕੀਈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥
sandai markai kee-ee pookaar.
Sanda and Marka, his teachers, explained the situation to the King.
ਸੰਡ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਅਮਰਕ ਨੇ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਪਾਸ) ਜਾ ਸ਼ਿਕੈਤ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਸਭੇ ਦੈਤ ਰਹੇ ਝਖ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
sabhay dait rahay jhakh maar.
All the wicked people associated with the king kept trying in vain.
ਸਾਰੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਾਹ ਲਾ ਥੱਕੇ (ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨ ਗਈ)।
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
bhagat janaa kee pat raakhai so-ee.
(Prehlad stuck to his belief) that God saves the honor of His devotees
ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਤੇ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥
keetay kai kahi-ai ki-aa ho-ee. ||5||
What can a wicked person do who himself is created by God? ||5||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਸੇ (ਦੋਖੀ) ਦੇ ਆਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੫॥
ਕਿਰਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਦੈਤਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥
kirat sanjogee dait raaj chalaa-i-aa.
Because of his past deeds, a demon-like king Harnakash ruled over his kingdom.
ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਦੈਂਤ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼) ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਚਲਾ ਲਿਆ,
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
har na boojhai tin aap bhulaa-i-aa.
the king got so intoxicated with power that he wouldn’t even recognize God; based on his deeds, God Himself has astrayed from the right path.
(ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਮਦ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?)ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
putar parahlaad si-o vaad rachaa-i-aa.
King Harnakash started an argument with his son Prahlaad.
(ਸੋ) ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਖੜਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਅੰਧਾ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੬॥
anDhaa na boojhai kaal nayrhai aa-i-aa. ||6||
Blinded by the power of the kingdom, he could not understand that the time of his death had dawned. ||6||
(ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਮਦ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਇਹ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਕੋਠੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਬਾਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤਾਲਾ ॥
parahlaad kothay vich raakhi-aa baar dee-aa taalaa.
Harnakash confined Prehlaad in a room and locked it from outside.
(ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਨੇ) ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਠੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਜੰਦਰਾ ਲਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਡਰਈ ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
nirbha-o baalak mool na dar-ee mayrai antar gur gopaalaa.
But the fearless child wasn’t scared at all; he said, within me is my Divine-Guru.
ਪਰ ਨਿਡਰ ਬਾਲਕ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਡਰਦਾ, (ਉਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਸੀ-) ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਰੀਕੀ ਕਰੈ ਅਨਹੋਦਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ॥
keetaa hovai sareekee karai anhodaa naa-o Dharaa-i-aa.
If the one created by God rivals God Himself, then it is like calling himself great without having any power.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜਾਣੇ ਉਹ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਡਾ ਰਖਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋੁ ਆਇ ਪਹੁਤਾ ਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
jo Dhur likhi-aa so aa-ay pahutaa jan si-o vaad rachaa-i-aa. ||7||
That which was predestined for Harnakash has come to pass, and he started an argument with the devotee of God. ||7||
ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਭਾਵੀ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਲਿਖੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਛੇੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੭॥
ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰਜ ਉਠਾਈ ॥
pitaa parahlaad si-o guraj uthaa-ee.
The father Harnakash raised the club to strike down Prahlaad,
ਪਿਉ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼) ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੁਰਜ ਚੁੱਕੀ,
ਕਹਾਂ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
kahaaN tumHaaraa jagdees gusaa-ee.
and said, where is your God, the Master of the Universe?
(ਤੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗਾ-ਦੱਸ) ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ਼? ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਗੁਸਾਈਂ? (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਬਚਾਏ)।
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
jagjeevan daataa ant sakhaa-ee.
Prehlaad replied: The life of the world, the benefactor, is the support in the end,
(ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ-) ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਅਖੀਰ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੮॥
jah daykhaa tah rahi-aa samaa-ee. ||8||
and wherever I look, I find Him pervading there. ||8||
ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਿੱਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਉਪਾੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
thamh upaarh har aap dikhaa-i-aa.
Tearing down a pillar, God revealed Himself,
(ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ) ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪਾੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਦੈਤੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥
ahaNkaaree dait maar pachaa-i-aa.
and annihilated the arrogant demon-like king Harnakash.
(ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਮਦ ਵਿਚ) ਮੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼) ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ।
ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ॥
bhagtaa man aanand vajee vaDhaa-ee.
This brought happiness in the minds of devotees and there were greetings all around.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਬਾਰਕਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ।
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੯॥
apnay sayvak ka-o day vadi-aa-ee. ||9||
God always bestows glory to His devotee. ||9||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
jaman marnaa moh upaa-i-aa.
God has created this process of birth, death and attachment,
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
aavan jaanaa kartai likh paa-i-aa.
The Creator has preordained everyone’s time of birth and death (coming into the world and going out of the world)
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਉਣਾ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਾ-ਇਹ ਲੇਖ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਿਖ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਕੈ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
parahlaad kai kaaraj har aap dikhaa-i-aa.
For the sake of accomplishing Prahalad’s task, God revealed Himself,
(ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸੰਵਾਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲੁ ਆਗੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
bhagtaa kaa bol aagai aa-i-aa. ||10||
and the word of devotees proved true (that God pervades everywhere and saves His devotees). ||10||
ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੦॥
ਦੇਵ ਕੁਲੀ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਕਉ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥
dayv kulee lakhimee ka-o karahi jaikaar.
The gods proclaimed the victory of Lakshmi,
ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਮਾਤਾ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਕਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੁ ॥
maataa narsingh kaa roop nivaar.
and said: O mother, pray and ask,O’ God, make this form of Man-lion disappear.
(ਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ-) ਹੇ ਮਾਤਾ! (ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੂਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ।
ਲਖਿਮੀ ਭਉ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
lakhimee bha-o karai na saakai jaa-ay.
But Lakhami was so afraid that she could not dare to go near God in this form.
(ਪਰ) ਲੱਛਮੀ ਭੀ ਡਰਦੀ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਭੀ (ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਸੀ।
