One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ਗਨੀ ॥
partipaal parabh kirpaal kavan gun ganee.
O’ the compassionate sustainer God of all, which of Your virtues may I count?
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਾਂ?
ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਬਹੁ ਤਰੰਗ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਧਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik rang baho tarang sarab ko Dhanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Like so many waves in the ocean, countless plays of the world emerge from You, and You are the Master of all. ||1||Pause||
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ, ਇਕ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋ ਉੱਠੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਧਿਆਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਜਾਪ ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ॥
anik gi-aan anik Dhi-aan anik jaap jaap taap.
Myriads of people are deliberating on divine knowledge, myriads are focusing their mind on You and many are engaged in meditation and penance.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਪ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਤਪ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਗੁਨਿਤ ਧੁਨਿਤ ਲਲਿਤ ਅਨਿਕ ਧਾਰ ਮੁਨੀ ॥੧॥
anik gunit Dhunit lalit anik Dhaar munee. ||1||
Countless are deliberating on Your virtues, many are singing Your praises in melodious tunes and innumerable are contemplating on You in silence. ||1||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਮਿਠੀਆਂ ਸੁਰਾਂ ਲਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਮੌਨ ਧਾਰੀ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਨਾਦ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਜ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਅਨਿਕ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਅਨਿਕ ਦੋਖ ਅਨਿਕ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਜਸ ਸੁਨੀ ॥
anik naad anik baaj nimakh nimakh anik savaad anik dokh anik rog miteh jas sunee.
Myriads of melodies are being sung with countless musical instruments which are creating myriads of blissful joys in an instant; Countless sorrows and afflictions get eradicated by listening to Your praises.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰਾਗ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਾਜ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਇਕ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਆਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵ ਅਪਾਰ ਦੇਵ ਤਟਹ ਖਟਹ ਬਰਤ ਪੂਜਾ ਗਵਨ ਭਵਨ ਜਾਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਸਗਲ ਫਲ ਪੁਨੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੫੭॥੮॥੨੧॥੭॥੫੭॥੯੩॥

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਦੇਸ-ਰਟਨ ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੧॥੫੭॥੮॥੨੧॥੭॥੫੭॥੯੩॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਾਮ ਮਹਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
aatam meh raam raam meh aatam cheenas gur beechaaraa.
By reflecting on the Guru’s divine word, one who realizes that God is in the soul and the soul is in God.
ਜਿਹੜਾਮਨੂੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ (ਜੀਉਂਦਾ) ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਹਉ ਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
amrit banee sabad pachhaanee dukh kaatai ha-o maaraa. ||1||
he understands the worth of the words of God’s praises through the ambrosial divine word he understands the worth of the words of God’s praises; he eliminates the melady of ego and the sorrows arising from it. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ ਬੁਰੇ ॥
naanak ha-umai rog buray.
O’ Nanak, the afflictions arising from egotism are very deadly,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਦਰੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾਂ ਤਹ ਏਕਾ ਬੇਦਨ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧੁਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jah daykhaaN tah aykaa baydan aapay bakhsai sabad Dhuray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
wherever I look, I find the same one disease, the ego; one who is preordained, God Himself spares him from ego through the divine word. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਜਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਧਰ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਪੀੜਾ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਧੁਰੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪਰਖਣਹਾਰੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਸੂਲਾਕੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
aapay parkhay parkhanhaarai bahur soolaak na ho-ee.
Those, whom God has Himself tested and accepted, are not put to any more pain of testing.
ਪਾਰਖੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖ (ਕੇ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ) ਲਿਆ , ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਛਾਨ ਬੀਨ ਦਾ) ਕਸ਼ਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਭਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
jin ka-o nadar bha-ee gur maylay parabh bhaanaa sach so-ee. ||2||
Those upon whom God has been gracious, the Guru United them with Naam; one who is pleasing to God, becomes the embodiment of the eternal God. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਰੋਗੀ ਧਰਤਿ ਸਭੋਗੀ ॥
pa-un paanee baisantar rogee rogee Dharat sabhogee.
The air, the water, and the fire are very powerful as if they are suffering from the sense of ego; even the earth has the power of producing all the necessities of life as if it is also suffering from egotism.
(ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਇਤਨਾ ਬਲੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਹਵਾ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅੱਗ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤ ਭੀ) ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਭੀ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਰਤਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਹ ਸਿ ਰੋਗੀ ਰੋਗੀ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ॥੩॥
maat pitaa maa-i-aa dayh se rogee rogee kutamb sanjogee. ||3||
Due to their family attachments, mothers, fathers, wealth and body are all afflicted with ego. ||3||
(ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ) ਪਰਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ, ਮਾਇਆ, ਸਰੀਰ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਰੋਗੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਸਰੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਰੋਗੀ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
rogee barahmaa bisan sarudraa rogee sagal sansaaraa.
Even gods like Brahma and Vishnu along with Shiva are afflicted with ego; in fact the entire world is suffering from the disease of ego.
ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਅਖਵਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਭੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਪਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਭਏ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
har pad cheen bha-ay say muktay gur kaa sabad veechaaraa. ||4||
But only those who reflected on the Guru’s word, have become free from ego by recognizing their union with God. ||4||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੪॥
ਰੋਗੀ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਨਦੀਆ ਖੰਡ ਪਤਾਲ ਸਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਭਰੇ ॥
rogee saat samund sandee-aa khand pataal se rog bharay.
The seven seas along with all the rivers are very powerful as if they are afflicted with ego; the inhabitants of all continents and the nether regions are full of the disease of ego.
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਸੱਤੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ) ਰੋਗੀ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ-ਇਹ ਭੀ (ਹਉਮੈ-) ਰੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਸਰਬੀ ਥਾਈ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੫॥
har kay lok se saach suhaylay sarbee thaa-ee nadar karay. ||5||
Those who become God’s devotee, enjoy a state of bliss by remaining attuned to the eternal God who bestows His gracious glance on them everywhere. ||5||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਰੋਗੀ ਖਟ ਦਰਸਨ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਾ ਹਠੀ ਅਨੇਕਾ ॥
rogee khat darsan bhaykh-Dhaaree naanaa hathee anaykaa.
The followers of the six sects of yogis and all those who resort to innumerable ways of self-control are diseased with ego.
ਛੇ ਹੀ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਨੀ (ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਆਦਿਕ) ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਠ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਹ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਨਹ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਇਕ ਏਕਾ ॥੬॥
bayd katayb karahi kah bapuray nah boojheh ik aykaa. ||6||
What can the Vedas and other religious scriptures do for them, if these miserable people do not recognize the one and only one God. ||6||
ਵੇਦ ਤੇ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ (ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ) ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਮਿਠ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ਸੁ ਰੋਗਿ ਭਰੀਜੈ ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
mith ras khaa-ay so rog bhareejai kand mool sukh naahee.
One who enjoys all kinds of tasty foods is diseased with ego, and the one who survives on mere root vegetables, attains no spiritual peace either.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਹਉਮੈ- ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਲਿੱਬੜਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੇ ਗਾਜਰ ਮੂਲੀ ਖਾਂਦਾਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਅਨ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਹੀ ॥੭॥
naam visaar chaleh an maarag ant kaal pachhutaahee. ||7||
All those who forsake God’s Name and adopt other paths to attain inner peace, repent at the very last moment. ||7||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਪੜਿਆ ਬਾਦੁ ਬਿਬਾਦੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
tirath bharmai rog na chhootas parhi-aa baad bibaad bha-i-aa.
The disease of ego does not go away by wandering at shrines of pilgrimage, and one who is well read, also suffers from ego in the form of arguments.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੀ (ਹਉਮੈ-) ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ, ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਝਗੜਾ-ਬਹਸ (ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ) ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਸੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਵਡੇਰਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੮॥
dubiDhaa rog so aDhik vadayraa maa-i-aa kaa muhtaaj bha-i-aa. ||8||
Duality, the love of things other than God, is a very serious ailment, one afflicted by this becomes dependent on Maya. ||8||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਦੀ ਝਾਕ ਬੜਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੁਥਾਜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
gurmukh saachaa sabad salaahai man saachaa tis rog ga-i-aa.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and sings God’s praises, God becomes manifest in his mind and his disease of egotism goes away.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ- ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਮਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੯॥੧॥
naanak har jan an-din nirmal jin ka-o karam neesaan pa-i-aa. ||9||1||
O’ Nanak, those devotees of God are always immaculate (free of egotism) on whom the insignia of His grace is bestowed. ||9||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ (ਚਮਕਾਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ) ਹੈ ॥੯॥੧॥
