ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਾ ॥
dukh sukh hamraa tis hee paas
and we pray to Him only to enable us to bear the sorrow and pleasure.
ਦੁੱਖ (ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ, ਤੇ) ਸੁਖ (ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਈ) ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ (ਸਦਾ ਅਰਦਾਸ) ਹੈ।
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਪੜਦਾ ॥
raakh leeno sabh jan kaa parh-daa.
God, who has protected the honor of all His devotees,
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੩੨॥
naanak tis kee ustat kardaa. ||4||19||32||
Nanak always sings His Praises. ||4||19||32||
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਹੀ ਸਦਾ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੩੨॥

Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru:
ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੀ ਰੋਜੁ ਬਨਾਇਆ ॥
rovanhaaree roj banaa-i-aa.
The crying woman has made it her routine to whine every day,
ਰੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਰੋਣ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨੇਮ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਬਲਨ ਬਰਤਨ ਕਉ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
balan bartan ka-o san-banDh chit aa-i-aa.
because the bonds she had with the deceased keep coming to her mind.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ) ਵਰਤਣ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਚੇਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੂਝਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
boojh bairaag karay jay ko-ay.
If one becomes detached from these bonds through understanding the death,
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮੋਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਰਮੋਹਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਲਏ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਫਿਰਿ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
janam maran fir sog na ho-ay. ||1||
then no sorrow would afflict him from births to deaths. ||1||
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਤੋ ਮਰਨ ਤਕ ਦਾ ਗ਼ਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ॥੧
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥
bikhi-aa kaa sabh DhanDh pasaar.
All these worldly relationships are nothing but the expanse of the Maya.
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਧੰਧਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕੀਨੋ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
virlai keeno naam aDhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Only a rare person, (instead of worldly relations) has made God’s Name as his support in life. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਹੀ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥
taribaDh maa-i-aa rahee bi-aap.
The Maya, through its three prongs (vice, virtue or power), is afflicting all beings.
ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਲਪਟਾਨੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੂਖ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥
jo laptaano tis dookh santaap.
Whoever clings to it, endures pain and sorrow.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ) ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
sukh naahee bin naam Dhi-aa-ay.
There cannot be any inner peace without lovingly remembering God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥
naam niDhaan badbhaagee paa-ay. ||2||
Only a rare person with good fortune receives the treasure of Naam. ||2||
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸ੍ਵਾਂਗੀ ਸਿਉ ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਰੀਝਾਵੈ ॥
savaaNgee si-o jo man reejhaavai.
One who loves with an imitator,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਾਂਗ-ਧਾਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸ੍ਵਾਗਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ॥
savaag utaari-ai fir pachhutaavai.
regrets when the actor takes off his costume after finishing his act.
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਂਗ ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ (ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਘ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਰਤਨਹਾਰ ॥
maygh kee chhaa-i-aa jaisay bartanhaar.
Just as the shadow of a cloud is transitory,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬੱਦਲ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਆਰਜੀ ਹੈ,
ਤੈਸੋ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
taiso parpanch moh bikaar. ||3||
similar is this worldly expanse, emotional attachment and joy from evils. ||3||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਪਸਾਰਾ,ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਵਾਂਗੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਰੀਝਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀ ॥੩॥
ਏਕ ਵਸਤੁ ਜੇ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
ayk vasat jay paavai ko-ay.
If someone receives the wealth of God’s Name,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ,
ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਜੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
pooran kaaj taahee kaa ho-ay.
only that person’s mission of life is accomplished.
ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ) ਕੰਮ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
gur parsaad jin paa-i-aa naam.
One who has received Naam by the Guru’s grace
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੩੩॥
naanak aa-i-aa so parvaan. ||4||20||33||
O’ Nanak, the advent of only that person is approved. ||4||20||33||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੩੩॥

ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਵਨਾ ॥
sant kee nindaa jonee bhavnaa.
For slandering a God loving saint, one wanders in reincarnation.
ਕਿਸੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਉਤੇ ਅਣਹੋਏ ਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਲਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਈ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਰੋਗੀ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
sant kee nindaa rogee karnaa.
For slandering a saint, one is afflicted with afflictions.
ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਬਦਖੋਈ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੂਖ ਸਹਾਮ ॥
sant kee nindaa dookh sahaam.
For slandering a saint, one is afflicted with all kinds of misery.
ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਕਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ.
ਡਾਨੁ ਦੈਤ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਉ ਜਾਮ ॥੧॥
daan dait nindak ka-o jaam. ||1||
The demon of death inflicts punishment on the slanderer. ||1||
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੂੰ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਭੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੋ ਬਾਦੁ ॥
satsang karahi jo baad.
Those who argue and fight with the God’s saints,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਖੜਾ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tin nindak naahee kichh saad. ||1|| rahaa-o.
those slanderers do not enjoy any inner peace in their lives. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੰਧੁ ਛੇਦਾਵੈ ॥
bhagat kee nindaa kanDh chhaydaavai.
By slandering God’s devotees, the slanderer’s own body deterorate
ਕਿਸੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੀ ਬਦਖਈ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੀ ਦੇਹ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਰਕੁ ਭੁੰਚਾਵੈ ॥
bhagat kee nindaa narak bhunchaavai.
One suffers like living in hell by slandering a devotee,
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ (ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ) ਨਰਕ (ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ) ਭੋਗਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਗਲੈ ॥
bhagat kee nindaa garabh meh galai.
By slandering a devotee, one spiritually deteriorates through repeated births.
ਉਸ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਲਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਟਲੈ ॥੨॥
bhagat kee nindaa raaj tay talai. ||2||
By slandering a devotee, one loses his higher spiritual status. ||2||
ਤੇ, ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਪਦਵੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
nindak kee gat kathoo naahi.
A slanderer never attains a supreme spiritual state,
ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦੀ,
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
aap beej aapay hee khaahi.
he eats only that which he has sowed (endures the consequences of his deeds).
(ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਾੜਾ ਬੀਜ) ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚੋਰ ਜਾਰ ਜੂਆਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਰਾ ॥
chor jaar joo-aar tay buraa.
He (a slanderer) is worse than a thief, a lecher or a gambler.
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੋਰ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਭਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਜੂਆਰੀਏ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਭੈੜਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਭਾਰੁ ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਰਾ ॥੩॥
anhodaa bhaar nindak sir Dharaa. ||3||
A slanderer carries an unbearable burden of sins upon his head. ||3||
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ ॥੩॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ॥
paarbarahm kay bhagat nirvair.
The devotees of the supreme God are beyond vengeance.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੇ।
ਸੋ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਪੂਜੈ ਪੈਰ ॥
so nistarai jo poojai pair.
Whoever worships their feet (follows their footsteps), is ferried across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਭੋਲਾਇਆ ॥
aad purakh nindak bholaa-i-aa.
Because of his deeds, a slanderer has been strayed from the righteous path by the all pervading God Himself,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੂੰ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੩੪॥
naanak kirat na jaa-ay mitaa-i-aa. ||4||21||34||
O’ Nanak, the record of one’s past actions cannot be erased. ||4||21||34||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਿਛਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਢੇਰ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੩੪॥

ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਬੇਦ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਦ ॥
naam hamaarai bayd ar naad.
Naam is my study of Vedas, and blowing of yogis’ horn.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਵੇਦ (ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੈ) ਅਤੇ (ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਆਦਿਕ) ਵਜਾਣਾ ਹੋ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾਜ ॥
naam hamaarai pooray kaaj.
Naam accomplishes all my tasks.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੇਵ ॥
naam hamaarai poojaa dayv.
Naam is my worship of deities.
ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥
naam hamaarai gur kee sayv. ||1||
for me, to follow the Guru’s teachings is meditating on God’s Name. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
gur poorai darirha-o har naam.
The Perfect Guru has implanted Naam within me.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਟਿਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabh tay ootam har har kaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Meditation on Naam is the most sublime deed. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਭਨਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
naam hamaarai majan isnaan.
Remembering God’s Name for me is the ablutions at holy places.
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਪੁਰਬਾਂ ਸਮੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
naam hamaarai pooran daan.
Remembering God’s Name for me is giving charity to brahmins at religious places,
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ (ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ (ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦਾਨ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਤੇ ਸਗਲ ਪਵੀਤ ॥
naam lait tay sagal paveet.
Those who lovingly remember God become totally immaculate.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥
naam japat mayray bhaa-ee meet. ||2||
Those who meditate on Naam are dear to me like my brothers and friends. ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਰਾ ਹਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸਉਣ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥
naam hamaarai sa-un sanjog.
Naam is my auspicious omen and good fortune.
ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਸੁਲੱਖਣਾ ਸ਼ਗਨ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੁਭੋਗ ॥
naam hamaarai taripat subhog.
Naam is the sublime spiritual food which satisfies me.
ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਭੋਜਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਆਚਾਰ ॥
naam hamaarai sagal aachaar.
God’s Name for me is all the good deeds.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥੩॥
naam hamaarai nirmal bi-uhaar. ||3||
Remembering God’s Name for me is the most immaculate occupation. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ॥
jaa kai man vasi-aa parabh ayk.
(Fortunate is the one) in whose mind manifests God.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ)।
ਸਗਲ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ॥
sagal janaa kee har har tayk.
God is the support of all.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
man tan naanak har gun gaa-o.
O’ Nanak, only that person sings praises of God with true dedication of mind and body,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੩੫॥
saaDhsang jis dayvai naa-o. ||4||22||35||
whom God blesses with the gift of His Name in the holy congregation. ||4||22||35||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੩੫॥
