Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru, First Beat:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲੀ ਥੀਤਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
saglee theet paas daar raakhee.
Setting aside all other lunar days, (O’ pundit, you say that),
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਲਾਂਭੇ ਰਖ ਕੇ (ਹੇ ਪੰਡਤਤੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ,
ਅਸਟਮ ਥੀਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਨਮਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
astam theet govind janmaa see. ||1||
God was born (as lord krishna) on the eighth lunar day. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ-ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਅਸ਼ਟਮੀ ਥਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਨਰ ਕਰਤ ਕਚਰਾਇਣ ॥
bharam bhoolay nar karat kachraa-in.
O’ pundit, deluded by doubt, you are astray from the righteous path and are talking about such false flimsy beliefs,
ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹੇ (ਪੰਡਤ) ! ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਕੱਚੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam maran tay rahat naaraa-in. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because God is beyond birth and death. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਿ ਪੰਜੀਰੁ ਖਵਾਇਓ ਚੋਰ ॥
kar panjeer khavaa-i-o chor.
(O’ pundit), making Panjiri, a sweet dish, you pretend to feed to lord Krishna.
ਪੰਜੀਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਲੁਕਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ-ਮੂਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਓਹੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਰੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਢੋਰ ॥੨॥
oh janam na marai ray saakat dhor. ||2||
O’ foolish faithless cynic! God neither takes birth, nor He dies. ||2||
ਹੇ ਰੱਬ ਤੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੂਰਖ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਗਲ ਪਰਾਧ ਦੇਹਿ ਲੋਰੋਨੀ ॥
sagal paraaDh deh loronee.
You sing lullabies to the idol of lord krishna and pretend that you are putting God to sleep: O’ pundit, this is the source of all the sins.
ਤੂੰ (ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ-ਮੂਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ) ਲੋਰੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਰੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ) ਸਾਰੇ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ)।
ਸੋ ਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਹਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜੋਨੀ ॥੩॥
so mukh jala-o jit kaheh thaakur jonee. ||3||
Let that mouth be burnt, which says that God goes through incarnations. ||3||
ਸੜ ਜਾਏ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਉਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
janam na marai na aavai na jaa-ay.
God neither takes birth nor he dies; He neither comes from anywhere nor He goes anywhere.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak kaa parabh rahi-o samaa-ay. ||4||1||
Nanak’s God is pervading everywhere. ||4||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru:
ਊਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥
oothat sukhee-aa baithat sukhee-aa.
One enjoys inner peace in every situation whether sitting or standing,
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਠਦਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾਂ ਐਸੇ ਬੁਝੀਆ ॥੧॥
bha-o nahee laagai jaaN aisay bujhee-aa. ||1||
and is not affected by any kind of fear, when he understands that God is the only savior of all. ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਖਾ ਏਕੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
raakhaa ayk hamaaraa su-aamee.
The Master-God is the only protector of us all,
ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਇਕ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal ghataa kaa antarjaamee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and He is omniscient. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਗਿ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
so-ay achintaa jaag achintaa.
That person sleeps without any worry and wakes up in a state of no worry,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਸਚਿੰਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੌਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਚਿੰਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਹਾ ਕਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
jahaa kahaaN parabh tooN vartantaa. ||2||
who understands and says: O God! You alone are pervading everywhere. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਘਰਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ghar sukh vasi-aa baahar sukh paa-i-aa.
One lives peacefully in his house and enjoys inner peace even while outside engaged in worldly chores,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਸੁਖੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਘਰੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਭੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥੨॥
kaho naanak gur mantar drirh-aa-i-aa. ||3||2||
within whom the Guru has implanted the Mantra of Naam, says Nanak. ||3||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਪ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੩॥੨॥

Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru:
ਵਰਤ ਨ ਰਹਉ ਨ ਮਹ ਰਮਦਾਨਾ ॥
varat na raha-o na mah ramdaanaa.
Neither I observe fasts like Hindus, nor I observe Ramadan like Muslims.
ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ (ਹਿੰਦੂ ਦੇ) ਵਰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਦੇ) ਰਮਜ਼ਾਨ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ (ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ)।
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਜੋ ਰਖੈ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
tis sayvee jo rakhai nidaanaa. ||1||
I lovingly remember only that God who protects us all in the end. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਏਕੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਅਲਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
ayk gusaa-ee alhu mayraa.
For me there is only one God, who is Gusaen of Hindus and Allah of Muslims.
ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਗੁਸਾਈਂ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ) ਅੱਲਾ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤੁਰਕ ਦੁਹਾਂ ਨੇਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hindoo turak duhaaN naybayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have released myself from the idea of being a Hindu or a Muslim. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਜਾਂ ਤੁਰਕ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਝਗੜਾ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਉ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
haj kaabai jaa-o na tirath poojaa.
I neither go on Hajj (pilgrimage to Kaaba like Muslims), nor I go and worship at any holy shrines.
ਮੈਂ ਨਾਹ ਕਾਬੇ ਦਾ ਹੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ), ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ (ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ) ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨॥
ayko sayvee avar na doojaa. ||2||
I lovingly remember God and no one else. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ (ਸਿਮਰਦਾ) ॥੨॥
ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਉ ਨ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਉ ॥
poojaa kara-o na nivaaj gujaara-o.
I neither worship like Hindus, nor I offer Nimaaz, the Muslim prayers.
ਮੈਂ ਨਾਹ (ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਵੇਦ-) ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਵਾਂਗ) ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉ ॥੩॥
ayk nirankaar lay ridai namaskaara-o. ||3||
Enshrining the formless God in my heart, I bow before Him. ||3||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ) ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਨਾ ਹਮ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ॥
naa ham hindoo na musalmaan.
I am neither a Hindu, nor a Muslim.
(ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਨਾਹ ਅਸੀਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ (ਦੇ ਮੁਥਾਜ) ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਅਸੀਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ (ਦੇ ਮੁਥਾਜ) ਹਾਂ।
ਅਲਹ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੪॥
alah raam kay pind paraan. ||4||
My body and breaths belong to one God, whom the Muslims call Allah and the Hindus call Ram. ||4||
ਸਾਡੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ (ਉਸਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਅੱਲਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਰਾਮ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥
kaho kabeer ih kee-aa vakhaanaa.
Kabir says: O’ brother, I tell you this one thing,
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫॥੩॥
gur peer mil khud khasam pachhaanaa. ||5||3||
that I have realized my Master-God after meeting and following the teachings of the Guru, my spiritual teacher. ||5||3||
ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੩॥

Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru:
ਦਸ ਮਿਰਗੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਆਨੀ ॥
das mirgee sehjay banDh aanee.
By staying in the state of spiritual poise, I have brought under control all the ten sense organs, as if I have bound and brought home the ten female deers.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਦਸੇ ਹਿਰਨੀਆਂ (ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਆਂਦੀਆਂ (ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਈਆਂ)।
ਪਾਂਚ ਮਿਰਗ ਬੇਧੇ ਸਿਵ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
paaNch mirag bayDhay siv kee baanee. ||1||
I have also brought under control the five vices as if I have killed five deer with the arrows of the Guru’s divine word. ||1||
ਕਦੇ ਖ਼ਤਾ ਨਾਹ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਤੀਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪੰਜ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਹਿਰਨ (ਭੀ) ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਏ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲੇ ਚੜਿਓ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥
satsang lay charhi-o sikaar.
With the help of saints, I started efforts to control the vices as if I went out on hunting expedition with the Saints,
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਖੇਡਣ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਿਆ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਕਰ ਲਈ)।
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਹਥੀਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
marig pakray bin ghor hathee-aar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and I have gained control of the vices (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego), as if I have captured the deers without horses or weapons. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਨਾ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਉਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਹਿਰਨ ਮੈਂ ਫੜ ਲਏ (ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਏ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਖੇਰ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਇਓ ਧਾਇ ॥
aakhayr birat baahar aa-i-o Dhaa-ay.
Like a hunter, my mind used to run outside after worldly pleasures has come back within,
ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਖੇਡਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨ ਜੋ ਬਾਹਰ ਵਲ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਸੀ, ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਹੇਰਾ ਪਾਇਓ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਗਾਂਇ ॥੨॥
ahayraa paa-i-o ghar kai gaaN-ay. ||2||
because I have found that game (inner peace) within my village-like body. ||2||
ਕਿਓੁਂਕੇ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਰੂਪੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ॥੨॥
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੇ ਹਾਟਿ ॥
marig pakray ghar aanay haat.
I have controlled the five vices and kept them within, as if I have caught the five deers and brought them to my shop.
(ਪੰਜਾਂ) ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਆਂਦਾ, ਆਪਣੀ ਹੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਆਂਦਾ।
ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਲੇ ਗਏ ਬਾਂਢੇ ਬਾਟਿ ॥੩॥
chukh chukh lay ga-ay baaNdhay baat. ||3||
The saintly companions helped me to get rid of my vices (five evil impulses) bit by bit, as if they cut up those dears and took them away. ||3||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਰਤਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਦੂਰ-ਦੁਰਾਡੇ ਥਾਂ ਲੈ ਗਏ (ਭਾਵ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ) ॥੩॥
ਏਹੁ ਅਹੇਰਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
ayhu ahayraa keeno daan.
The saints gave me this hunted game (the controlled mind) as a gift.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ (ਇਹ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੪॥
naanak kai ghar kayval naam. ||4||4||
Now only the Name of God is enshrined in Nanak’s heart. ||4||4||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੁਣ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚਿ ਲੋਚਿ ਖਾਵਾਇਆ ॥ ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
jay sa-o loch loch khaavaa-i-aa. saakat har har cheet na aa-i-aa. ||1||
Even if with great affection a faithless cynic is fed hundreds of times with the divine food of God’s Name, still the thought of remembering God does not come to his mind ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ ਭੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ-ਭੋਜਨ ਖਵਾਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਤੇ ॥
sant janaa kee layho matay.
(O’ my friends), take the advice (about righteous life) from the saintly people,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ) ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲਿਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saaDhsang paavhu param gatay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and attain the supreme spiritual status in the company of saints. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਪਵਾਇਆ ॥ ਨਹ ਭੀਗੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੂਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
paathar ka-o baho neer pavaa-i-aa. nah bheegai aDhik sookaa-i-aa. ||2||
Even if lots of water is put on a stone, it does not absorb any moisture and remains extremely dry, similarly any amount of spiritual teaching given to a faithless cynic does not change him.
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਸੁਟਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ, (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭਿੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਸੁੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਹਾਲ ਹੈ ਸਾਕਤ ਦਾ) ॥੨॥
