ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਮੂਰਖੈ ਸੁਨਾਇਆ ॥
khat saastar moorkhai sunaa-i-aa.
If the six Shaastras (the Hindu holy books) are recited to a fool,
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਨਪੜ੍ਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਜਾਣ,
ਜੈਸੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪਵਨੁ ਝੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
jaisay dah dis pavan jhulaa-i-aa. ||3||
for him it is as useless as wind blowing all around. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਉਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ (ਨਿਰੀ) ਹਵਾ ਹੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਕਣ ਖਲਹਾਨੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਗਾਹਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bin kan khalhaan jaisay gaahan paa-i-aa.
Just as nothing is gained by thrashing a crop without grain,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਨ ਦੇ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਖਲਵਾੜਾ ਗਾਹਿਆ ਜਾਏ (ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੁਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ),
ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇ ਕੋ ਨ ਬਰਾਸਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
ti-o saakat tay ko na baraasaa-i-aa. ||4||
similarly no spiritual benefit is obtained by associating with a faithless cynic. ||4||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੪॥
ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
tit hee laagaa jit ko laa-i-aa.
Everyone gets attached to the deed to which God attaches him,
ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ (ਕੰਮ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਉਹ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੫॥
kaho naanak parabh banat banaa-i-aa. ||5||5||
because this is how God has created the game of the world, says Nanak. ||5||5||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਖੇਡ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੫॥

Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru:
ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
jee-o paraan jin rachi-o sareer.
He (God) who has created the bodies of the beings by putting life and breaths in them,
ਜਿਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ (ਦੇ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਰਚੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਿਨਹਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੀਰ ॥੧॥
jineh upaa-ay tis ka-o peer. ||1||
He who has created them, understands their needs. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਦਰਦ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਕਾਮ ॥ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਦ ਛਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur gobind jee-a kai kaam. halat palat jaa kee sad chhaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Divine-Guru who is always the support of the beings both here and hereafter is capable of helping to accomplish their tasks. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ-ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
parabh aaraaDhan nirmal reet.
Remembering God with adoration is the only immaculate way of life.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੈ ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
saaDhsang binsee bipreet. ||2||
The bad habit of not remembering God vanishes in the company of saints. ||2||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਉਲਟੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮਾੜੀ ਵਾਦੀ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ॥੨॥
ਮੀਤ ਹੀਤ ਧਨੁ ਨਹ ਪਾਰਣਾ ॥ ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਾ ॥੩॥
meet heet Dhan nah paarnaa. Dhan Dhan mayray naaraa-inaa. ||3||
O’ my God! You alone are worthy of praise, because all the friends, well-wishers and worldly wealth are not the true support of life.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਹਿਤੂ, ਧਨ-ਇਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।॥੩॥
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
naanak bolai amrit banee.
O’ brother! Nanak utters these immortalizing words,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਨਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਇਹ) ਬਚਨ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਏਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੬॥
ayk binaa doojaa nahee jaanee. ||4||6||
that except God, don’t ever depend on any other support in life. ||4||6||
ਕਿ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝੀਂ ॥੪॥੬॥

Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru:
ਆਗੈ ਦਯੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥
aagai da-yu paachhai naaraa-in.
God has been the saviour in the past and will be in the future.
ਅਗਾਂਹ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੰਘ ਚੁਕੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਸੀ।
ਮਧਿ ਭਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸਾਇਣ ॥੧॥
maDh bhaag har paraym rasaa-in. ||1||
God, the benefactor of all comforts and who loves us, is with us even now. ||1||
ਹੁਣ ਭੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ) ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਉਣ ॥
parabhoo hamaarai saastar sa-un.
God’s Name for us is the best Shastra for determining auspicious omen,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ,
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭਉਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sookh sahj aanand garih bha-un. ||1|| rahaa-o.
inner peace, poise, spiritual bliss, family and house. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਖ, ਸਹਿਜ, ਆਨੰਦ, ਪਰਿਵਾਰ, ਅਤੇ ਘਰ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਨ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵੇ ॥
rasnaa naam karan sun jeevay.
Many people have become spiritually alive by reciting God’s Name with their tongue and by listening to it with their ears.
ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪ ਕੇ), ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਨਾਮ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਗਏ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਮਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਵੇ ॥੨॥
parabh simar simar amar thir theevay. ||2||
By always remembering God with adoration, many people remained spiritually stable against the vices and became free of the cycle of birth and death. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਏ, (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਬਣੇ ਰਹੇ ॥੨॥
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
janam janam kay dookh nivaaray.
Those who remembered and listened to Naam, God eradicated their sufferings of many births,
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਤੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿਤੇ ,
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਵਜੇ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
anhad sabad vajay darbaaray. ||3||
and they started enjoying such a bliss as if a nonstop divine melody is being played in their heart.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਉਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜ ਪਏ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਲੀਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਆਏ ॥੪॥੭॥
kar kirpaa parabh lee-ay milaa-ay. naanak parabh sarnaagat aa-ay. ||4||7||
O’ Nanak, those who came to God’s refuge, bestowing mercy, God has united them with Himself. ||4||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਏ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੭॥

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਆਵਹਿ ਹਾਥ ॥
kot manorath aavahi haath.
(One who meditates on Naam), millions of his desires are fulfilled,
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗ ਕੈ ਸੰਗੀ ਪਾਂਥ ॥੧॥
jam maarag kai sangee paaNth. ||1||
and Naam becomes his companion after death. ||1||
ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੰਗਾ ਜਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ॥
gangaa jal gur gobind naam.
The Divine-Guru and Naam is like the true holy water of Ganges,
ਗੁਰ-ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ ਅਸਲ) ਗੰਗਾ-ਜਲ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੀਵਤ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo simrai tis kee gat hovai peevat bahurh na jon bharmaam. ||1|| rahaa-o ||
whoever lovingly remembers it attains the supreme spiritual state; one who drinks this holy water (Naam), does not go inreincarnations. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ (ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਗੰਗਾ-ਜਲ ਨੂੰ) ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੂਜਾ ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥
poojaa jaap taap isnaan.
Remembering God with adoration is like doing all kinds of worship, meditation, penance and ablution.
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਦੇਵ-) ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਪ-ਤਪ ਹੈ, ਤਾਪ ਹੀ ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ॥੨॥
simrat naam bha-ay nihkaam. ||2||
People become free of the love of worldly desires while remembering God’s Name with loving devotion. ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਰਾਜ ਮਾਲ ਸਾਦਨ ਦਰਬਾਰ ॥ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਚਾਰ ॥੩॥
raaj maal saadan darbaar. simrat naam pooran aachaar. ||3||
By remembering God’s Name, one’s character becomes pure and he attains all comforts and pleasures which one attains from worldly power, possessions and glory. ||3||
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਸੁੱਚਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ, ਮਾਲ, ਮਹਲ-ਮਾੜੀਆਂ, ਦਰਬਾਰ ਲਾਉਣੇ (ਜੋ ਸੁਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)॥੩॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
naanak daas ih kee-aa beechaar.
After due deliberation, devotee Nanak has come to this conclusion;
ਯੋਗ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਤੇ ਪੁੱਜਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸਭ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੮॥
bin har naam mithi-aa sabh chhaar. ||4||8||
that without God’s Name, all else is false and useless like ashes.||4||8||
ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਹ (ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ) ਹੈ ॥੪॥੮॥

ਲੇਪੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੋ ਤਿਲ ਕਾ ਮੂਲਿ ॥
layp na laago til kaa mool.
The evil intentions of (the Brahmin to kill child Hargobind) did not have even the slightest ill-effect on the child,
ਬਾਲਕ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਉੱਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਦਾ) ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਮਾੜਾ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ,
ਦੁਸਟੁ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਮੂਆ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਸੂਲ ॥੧॥
dusat baraahman moo-aa ho-ay kai sool. ||1||
Instead the villainous Brahmin himself died of severe pain in his stomach.||1||
(ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ) ਚੰਦਰਾ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ (ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ) ਸੂਲ ਉੱਠਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਆਪਿ ॥
har jan raakhay paarbarahm aap.
The Supreme God Himself saved His devotees,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਚਾਅ ਲਏ,
ਪਾਪੀ ਮੂਆ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਤਾਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paapee moo-aa gur partaap. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and the sinner died through the Guru’s divine power. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਪਣਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਜਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
apnaa khasam jan aap Dhi-aa-i-aa.
The devotee has himself lovingly remembered his Master-God,
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਆਣਾ ਪਾਪੀ ਓਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
i-aanaa paapee oh aap pachaa-i-aa. ||2||
and God Himself destroyed the ignorant sinner. ||2||
ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਅਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
parabh maat pitaa apnay daas kaa rakhvaalaa.
Just like the mother and the father, God is the protector of His devotee.
ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ (ਵਾਂਗ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਪ ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਾ ਮਾਥਾ ਈਹਾਂ ਊਹਾ ਕਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
nindak kaa maathaa eehaaN oohaa kaalaa. ||3||
The slanderer is put to shame both here and hereafter. ||3||
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
jan naanak kee parmaysar sunee ardaas.
O’ Nanak! the supreme God listened to the prayer of His devotee,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਸੁਣੀ ,
ਮਲੇਛੁ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਚਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ॥੪॥੯॥
malaychh paapee pachi-aa bha-i-aa niraas. ||4||9||
and becoming disappointed, the wicked sinner died.||4||9||
ਅਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਪਾਪੀ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ ਹੇ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ॥੪॥੯॥

ਖੂਬੁ ਖੂਬੁ ਖੂਬੁ ਖੂਬੁ ਖੂਬੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
khoob khoob khoob khoob khoob tayro naam.
O’ God, the most wonderful and extremely beauteous is Your Name,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ।
ਝੂਠੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਦੁਨੀ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jhooth jhooth jhooth jhooth dunee gumaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but totally false and very short lived is the pride of worldly things. ||1||pause||
ਪਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ, ਛੇਤੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਗਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
nagaj tayray banday deedaar apaar.
O’ God, beauteous are those who engage in Your devotional worship, and beyond limit is the worth of their blessed vision.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ (ਅਮੋਲਕ) ਹੈ।
