ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੯॥
aapay gurmukh day vadi-aa-ee naanak naam samaa-ay. ||4||9||19||
O’ Nanak, God blesses a Guru’s follower with the glory and unites him with His Name. ||4||9||19||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨੇਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਤਾ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਊਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੪॥੯॥੧੯॥

ਮੇਰੀ ਪਟੀਆ ਲਿਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
mayree patee-aa likhahu har govind gopaalaa.
O’ my teacher, write on my slate the Name of God, the sustainer of the universe.
(ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਤ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੇਰੀ ਪੱਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ, ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ, ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਖ ਦਿਉ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਾਥੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay faathay jam jaalaa.
Those who remain engrossed in the love for materialism, are caught in the noose of spiritual death.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
satgur karay mayree partipaalaa.
The true Guru is my savior and sustainer,
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
har sukh-daata mayrai naalaa. ||1||
and God, the provider of all comforts, is always with me. ||1||
ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਚਰੈ ॥

Following his Guru’s teachings, Prahlaad recites God’s Name,
(ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਸਨਾ ਤੇ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਗਮੁ ਨ ਕਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saasnaa tay baalak gam na karai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and the child (Prahlaad) was not terrified by the teacher’s admonition. ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਲਕ (ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ) ਊਸਤਾਦ ਦੀ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਾਤਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
maataa updaysai par-hilaad pi-aaray.
The mother counsels her beloved son, Prehlaad.
(ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਮਾਂ ਸਮਝਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ!
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥
putar raam naam chhodahu jee-o layho ubaaray.
O’ my son, forsake reciting God’s Name, and save your own life.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
par-hilaad kahai sunhu mayree maa-ay.
and Prahlaad responded: O’ my mother, listen to me;
(ਅੱਗੋਂ) ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਸੁਣ,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੨॥
raam naam na chhodaa gur dee-aa bujhaa-ay. ||2||
I will not stop reciting God’s Name; this is what my Guru has taught me. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਡਾ ਮਰਕਾ ਸਭਿ ਜਾਇ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ॥
sandaa markaa sabh jaa-ay pukaaray.
Sandaa and Markaa, Prahalad’s teachers, went to his father, the king, and complained-
ਸੰਡ ਅਮਰਕ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਕੋਲ) ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ-
ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਗੜਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਚਾਟੜੇ ਵਿਗਾੜੇ ॥
par-hilaad aap vigrhi-aa sabh chaatrhay vigaarhay.
that not only Prahlaad himself has gone astray, but he has spoiled all the other pupils also.
ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਆਪ ਵਿਗੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਭੀ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਕਾਇਆ ॥
dusat sabhaa meh mantar pakaa-i-aa.
Upon hearing this, the council of villains (ministers), resolved to kill Prehlaad.
(ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਪੱਕੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਈਏ।
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਘੁਰਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
parahlaad kaa raakhaa ho-ay raghuraa-i-aa. ||3||
But God, the king of all, became the savior of Prehlaad. ||3||
(ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਆਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਹਾਥਿ ਖੜਗੁ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਇਆ ਅਤਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥
haath kharhag kar Dhaa-i-aa at ahaNkaar.
Holding the sword in his hand, the king pounced upon Prehlaad with great egotistical pride,
(ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਬੜੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਉੱਤੇ) ਟੁੱਟ ਪਿਆ,
ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਹਾ ਤੁਝੁ ਲਏ ਉਬਾਰਿ ॥
har tayraa kahaa tujh la-ay ubaar.
and asked him, where is your God who may save you?
(ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ-ਦੱਸ) ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰੀ, ਜਿਹੜਾ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਬਚਾ ਲਏ?
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭੈਆਨ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਿਕਸਿਆ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਉਪਾੜਿ ॥
khin meh bhai-aan roop niksi-aa thamH upaarh.
In an instant, God appeared in a dreadful form (a man-lion), shattering the pillar.
(ਇਹ ਆਖਣ ਦੀ ਢਿੱਲ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਝੱਟ) ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਭਿਆਨਕ ਰੂਪ (ਧਾਰ ਕੇ) ਥੰਮ੍ਹ ਪਾੜ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਆਇਆ।
ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਨਖੀ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਲੀਆ ਉਬਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
harnaakhas nakhee bidaari-aa parahlaad lee-aa ubaar. ||4||
Harnaakhash was torn apart by His claws and Prahlaad was saved. ||4||
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਹੁੰਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤੇ, ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sant janaa kay har jee-o kaaraj savaaray.
Reverend God accomplishes all tasks of His devotees.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਇਕੀਹ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
parahlaad jan kay ikeeh kul uDhaaray.
He emancipated twenty-one of Prehlaad’s generations.
(ਵੇਖ! ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਇੱਕੀ ਕੁਲਾਂ (ਭੀ) ਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
gur kai sabad ha-umai bikh maaray.
Through the Guru’s word, God dispels the poison of egotism from His devotees.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੫॥੧੦॥੨੦॥
naanak raam naam sant nistaaray. ||5||10||20||
O’ Nanak, God ferries His saints across the world ocean of vices by uniting them with Naam. ||5||10||20||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੧੦॥੨੦॥

Raag Bhairao, Third Guru:
ਆਪੇ ਦੈਤ ਲਾਇ ਦਿਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aapay dait laa-ay ditay sant janaa ka-o aapay raakhaa so-ee.
God Himself let loose the demons after the saintly people, but then He Himself becomes their savior.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੈਂਤ ਚੰਬੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
jo tayree sadaa sarnaa-ee tin man dukh na ho-ee. ||1||
O’ God, those who always remain in Your refuge, do not feel any misery or pain in their mind. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥
jug jug bhagtaa kee rakh-daa aa-i-aa.
Age after age, God has been protecting the honor of His devotees.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ (ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਦੈਤ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਰਪਣੁ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dait putar parahlaad gaa-itaree tarpan kichhoo na jaanai sabday mayl milaa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Prehlaad, the son of a demon, did not know even the Gayatri Mantra, or Tarpan, the ritual of offering water to the ancestors; but by attuning him to the Guru’s word, God united him (Prehlaad) with Himself. ||1||Pause||
(ਵੇਖੋ) ਦੈਂਤ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼) ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ (ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਨਾ; ਪਿਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪੂਜਾ-ਅਰਚਾ (ਕਰਨੀ-) ਇਹ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ। (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ॥
an-din bhagat karahi din raatee dubiDhaa sabday kho-ee.
Those who always remember God with adoration, eradicate their duality through the Guru’s word.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
sadaa nirmal hai jo sach raatay sach vasi-aa man so-ee. ||2||
Those who are imbued with the love of God are always immaculate, and the eternal God abides within their minds. ||2||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮੂਰਖ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਹਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
moorakh dubiDhaa parheh mool na pachhaaneh birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa.
The self-conceited fools read about duality, do not realize God and waste their life in vain.
ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਕ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਹੀ ਨਿੱਤ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਦੈਤੁ ਚਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
sant janaa kee nindaa karahi dusat dait chirhaa-i-aa. ||3||
Those who slander the saintly devotees, endure misery as if they have infuriate the demon (Harnashak) against them. ||3||
ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੜਕਾਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨ ਪੜੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਡਰੈ ਨ ਕਿਸੈ ਦਾ ਡਰਾਇਆ ॥
parahlaad dubiDhaa na parhai har naam na chhodai darai na kisai daa daraa-i-aa.
But Prehlaad refused to read the lessons about duality; he did not abandon meditating on God’s Name and would not be frightened by anyone.
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਡਰਾਇਆ ਡਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਾ ਦੈਤੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥
sant janaa kaa har jee-o raakhaa daitai kaal nayrhaa aa-i-aa. ||4||
God Himself is the savior of His devotees, and the death of the demon, Harnakash, drew even closer. ||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਆਪ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਡਾ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼) ਦੈਂਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਲ ਸਗੋਂ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ॥੪॥
ਆਪਣੀ ਪੈਜ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

(ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਹੈ। ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਪ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੇ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਨਖੀ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਆ ਅੰਧੈ ਦਰ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੨੧॥
naanak harnaakhas nakhee bidaari-aa anDhai dar kee khabar na paa-ee. ||5||11||21||
O’ Nanak, God tore apart Harnakash with His nails, because that ignorant demon did not understand divine justice. ||5||11||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ) ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਨਹੁੰਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। (ਤਾਕਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੇ (ਹਰਨਾਖਸ) ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝਿਆ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੨੧॥

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਗਿ ਲਾਇਣੁ ॥

O’ brother, bestowing mercy, God Himself attaches a person to the humble service of His saints,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
