ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
sayvaa surat sabad chit laa-ay.
Then he focuses his mind in selfless service and the Guru’s word.
ਤਦ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
ha-umai maar sadaa sukh paa-i-aa maa-i-aa moh chukaavani-aa. ||1||
Subduing ego, he sheds love for Maya and enjoys everlasting bliss.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree satgur kai balihaarni-aa.
And he says, I am forever devoted to the Guru,
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ,
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਆ ਜੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmatee pargaas ho-aa jee an-din har gun gaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
It is through the Guru’s teachings that a person is enlightened with divine wisdom, and he always sings praises of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
tan man khojay taa naa-o paa-ay.
Only when one reflects upon the self (reflects on all his shortcomings) then one realizes Naam,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜਦਾ ਰਹੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
Dhaavat raakhai thaak rahaa-ay.
and thus restraining the wandering mind, he keeps it in check.
(ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਦੌੜਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰੋਕ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gur kee banee an-din gaavai sehjay bhagat karaavani-aa. ||2||
He always sings Gurbani (divine words) and intuitively remains engaged in God’s worship
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਸੰਖਾ ॥
is kaa-i-aa andar vasat asankhaa.
In this body dwells God, whose virtues are limitless.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵੇਖਾ ॥
gurmukh saach milai taa vaykhaa.
By the Guru-granted wisdom, When one is able to realize God dwelling within.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਉ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਦਸਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
na-o darvaajay dasvai muktaa anhad sabad vajaavani-aa. ||3||
Then, one rises beyond the apparent nine senses and realizes the tenth hidden sense, the door to liberation, and experiences the unstuck divine melody.
ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੌ ਗੋਲਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਦੁਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਭਾਵ, ਵਿਚਾਰ ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ) ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
sachaa saahib sachee naa-ee.
Eternal is the Master, and eternal is His glory.
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee man vasaa-ee.
It is through the Guru’s grace that He is enshrined in the mind.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
an-din sadaa rahai rang raataa dar sachai sojhee paavni-aa. ||4||
The person who always remains imbued with love of God, remains in God’s presence and obtains the understanding about righteous life.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
paap punn kee saar na jaanee.
The one who does not understand about sin and virtue.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ l
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥
doojai laagee bharam bhulaanee.
Attached to duality, he wanders around deluded.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
agi-aanee anDhaa mag na jaanai fir fir aavan jaavani-aa. ||5||
The ignorant blind person does not know the true path of righteous life, and is consigned to cycle of birth and death
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ) ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur sayvaa tay sadaa sukh paa-i-aa.
The person who serves and follows the Guru’s teaching, finds eternal peace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai mayraa thaak rahaa-i-aa.
He keeps his ego and worldly attachments under control.
ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
gur saakhee miti-aa anDhi-aaraa bajar kapaat khulaavani-aa. ||6||
Through the Guru’s word, the darkness of ignorance of mind is dispelled, and the heavy shutters of one’s mind are opened and one obtains divine wisdom.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਉਹ) ਕਰੜੇ ਕਿਵਾੜ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਜਕੜੀ ਪਈ ਸੀ)
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai maar man vasaa-i-aa.
Subduing the ego, he kept the Guru’s word enshrined in the mind,
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਿਆ,
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
gur charnee sadaa chit laa-i-aa.
and consciousnessly followed the Guru’s teachings.
ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
gur kirpaa tay man tan nirmal nirmal naam Dhi-aavani-aa. ||7||By the Guru’s
grace, his mind and body become pure, and he keeps meditating on the immaculate Name of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਧੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
jeevan marnaa sabh tuDhai taa-ee.
O’ God, both life and death are in Your hands.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜੀਊਣਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੌਤ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jis bakhsay tis day vadi-aa-ee.
The one who is under Your Grace, You confer on him the glory of your Naam.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥
naanak naam Dhi-aa-ay sadaa tooN jaman maran savaarni-aa. ||8||1||2||
O’ Nanak, you should always meditate on His Name, which can embellish your entire life from birth to death.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ। ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਨਮ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੌਤ ਤਕ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
mayraa parabh nirmal agam apaaraa.
My God is Immaculate, Inaccessible and Infinite.
ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਤਕੜੀ ਤੋਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
bin takrhee tolai sansaaraa.
Without any scale, He evaluates the merits and demerits of the people.
ਉਹ ਤੱਕੜੀ (ਵਰਤਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
gurmukh hovai so-ee boojhai gun kahi gunee samaavani-aa. ||1||
The one who follows the Guru’s teachings understands this. By reciting the virtues of God, he remains attuned to Him.
(ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree har kaa naam man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those, who enshrine God’s Name in their minds.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo sach laagay say an-din jaagay dar sachai sobhaa paavni-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Those who are devoted to the eternal God always remain watchful against the onslaughts of Maya and receive honor at God’s court.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣੈ ਤੈ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
aap sunai tai aapay vaykhai.
God Himself listens to prayers and takes care of everyone.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
jis no nadar karay so-ee jan laykhai.
Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, become acceptable.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਉਸਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
aapay laa-ay la-ay so laagai gurmukh sach kamaavani-aa. ||2||
Only the one whom He blesses is imbued with His love and devotion, and through the Guru, meditates on God (practices truth in life).
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਸੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਹਥੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis aap bhulaa-ay so kithai hath paa-ay.
Where can that person find any support and guidance, whom God Himself puts on the wrong path?
(ਪਰ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾ ਦੇਵੇ, ਉਹ (ਸਹੀ ਰਾਹ ਲੱਭਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
poorab likhi-aa so maytnaa na jaa-ay.
The pre-ordained destiny (based on their past deeds) cannot be erased.
ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
jin satgur mili-aa say vadbhaagee poorai karam milaavani-aa. ||3||
Those who meet the True Guru are very fortunate and blessed, through His perfect mercy God unites them with Himself.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਾਣੋ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈl
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਧਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੁਤੀ ॥
pay-ee-arhai Dhan an-din sutee.
The bride soul, who always remains engrossed in worldly pursuits in this world.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਕੰਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਤੀ ॥
kant visaaree avgan mutee.
She has forgotten her Husband-God; she is abandoned because of her demerits.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਛੁੱਟੜ ਹੋਈ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
an-din sadaa firai billaadee bin pir need na paavni-aa. ||4||
She always wanders around crying. Without the company of her Husband-God, she cannot get any spiritual peace.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਭਟਕਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ l
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
pay-ee-arhai sukh-daata jaataa.
The soul bride who realizes her Husband-God, the bestower of peace, in this world.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖੀ,
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
ha-umai maar gur sabad pachhaataa.
and by eradicating her ego, she recognizes her Husband-God through the Guru’s word .
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ,
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sayj suhaavee sadaa pir raavay sach seegaar banaavani-aa. ||5||
She bedecks herself with the ornaments of Naam, and always enjoys the company of her Husband-God in her heart.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈl
