ਮਾਂਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
maaNjh mehlaa 5.
Raag Maajh, by the Fifth Guru:
ਝੂਠਾ ਮੰਗਣੁ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਗੈ ॥
jhoothaa mangan jay ko-ee maagai.
If someone asks for short-lived, worldly things,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹੇ (ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਮੰਗੇ),
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਮਰਤੇ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
tis ka-o martay gharhee na laagai.
it takes one no time to die a spiritual death.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜੋ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕਹਣਾ ॥੧॥
paarbarahm jo sad hee sayvai so gur mil nihchal kahnaa. ||1||
But the one who always remembers God, by meeting the Guru becomes unaffected by worldly riches or power.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
paraym bhagat jis kai man laagee.
The person who is imbued with God’s loving devotion,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਰ-ਭਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਦੀ ਲਿਵ) ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਤਿ ਜਾਗੀ ॥
gun gaavai an-din nit jaagee.
He always sings God’s praises and always remains aware to the pitfalls of worldly attachments,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਸਦਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਲੈ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਹਣਾ ॥੨॥
baah pakarh tis su-aamee maylai jis kai mastak lahnaa. ||2||
The person who is destined to receive this wealth of Name,holding by the hand, God unites such a person with Himself.
(ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੋਵੇ l
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠੇ ॥
charan kamal bhagtaaN man vuthay.
The minds of the devotees are lovingly attuned to the immaculate word of God.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ (ਸਦਾ) ਵੱਸਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਵਿਣੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਸਗਲੇ ਮੁਠੇ ॥
vin parmaysar saglay muthay.
Those Who do not remember God are all deceived by their inner malicious impulses.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੱਥੀਂ) ਲੁੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਨਿਤ ਬਾਂਛਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੇ ਕਾ ਗਹਣਾ ॥੩॥
sant janaaN kee Dhoorh nit baaNchheh naam sachay kaa gahnaa. ||3||
But the devotees of God every day seek the humble association of the saints, and for them the eternal Naam is their real wealth.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਸਦਾ ਲੋੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
oothat baithat har har gaa-ee-ai.
In all states we should sing the praises of God,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਬਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਵਰੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
jis simrat var nihchal paa-ee-ai.
By contemplating and remembering him, we obtain union with that immortal God.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸਹਣਾ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੫੦॥
naanak ka-o parabh ho-ay da-i-aalaa tayraa keetaa sahnaa. ||4||43||50||
O’ God, please be merciful to Nanak and bless him so that he may gladly accept Your Will, and bear all Your doings
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਉਹ ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਬੈਠਦਿਆਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲਗਦੀ ਹੈ l

Raag Maajh, by the First Guru: Ashtapadis: First beat.
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God. realized by the grace Of The Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
sabad rangaa-ay hukam sabaa-ay.
All those who are imbued in the Guru’s word and live by His command,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥
sachee dargeh mahal bulaa-ay
are invited to the court of the eternal (God).
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਦ ਲਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sachay deen da-i-aal mayray saahibaa sachay man patee-aavani-aa. ||1||
O’ my Creator and Master, Merciful to the oppressed, their mind is appeased by the eternal Truth.
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਿਕ! ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਝਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ l
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree sabad suhaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who, being imbued in Naam have made their life spiritually beautiful.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
amrit naam sadaa sukh-daata gurmatee man vasaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By following the Guru’s teachings, they have enshrined in their mind the nectar like God’s Name, which brings everlasting peace.
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ॥
naa ko mayraa ha-o kis kayraa.
In the world, none belong to me forever and I belong to none forever,
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਚਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
saachaa thaakur taribhavan mayraa.
Only eternal God is mine, who is pervading in the three words.
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਘਣੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
ha-umai kar kar jaa-ay ghanayree kar avgan pachhotaavani-aa. ||2||
Acting in egotism, so very many have died. After committing sins, they later repent and regret. ||2||
‘ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਾਂ’-ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲੋਕਾਈ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਤੁਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੀ ਭੀ ਹੈ l
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
hukam pachhaanai so har gun vakhaanai.
Those who recognize the God’s Command, contemplate and remember him.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਮਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥
gur kai sabad naam neesaanai.
By lovingly meditating on Naam through the Guru’s word, they depart from here with the stamp of approval.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਸਮੇਤ (ਇਥੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਸਚੈ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sabhnaa kaa dar laykhaa sachai chhootas naam suhaavani-aa. ||3
Everyone’s account is kept in the God’s Court. Only they who are embellished with the Naam are liberated.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲੇਖੇ ਤੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਠਉਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
manmukh bhoolaa tha-ur na paa-ay.
The self-willed egocentrics are deluded; they find no place of spiritual solace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੇਖੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਏ ॥
jam dar baDhaa chotaa khaa-ay.
Due to the evil deeds done, he suffers at the door of the demon of death.
ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
bin naavai ko sang na saathee muktay naam Dhi-aavani-aa. ||4||
Without the Naam, there are no companions or friends. Liberation comes only by lovingly meditating on the Naam.
(ਆਤਮਕ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੂੜੇ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
saakat koorhay sach na bhaavai.
The faithless cynic engrossed in Maya, does not like the Truth.
ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ।
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬਾਧਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
dubiDhaa baaDhaa aavai jaavai.
In ego Bound by duality, they come and go in cycle of life and death.
ਉਹ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
likhi-aa laykh na maytai ko-ee gurmukh mukat karaavani-aa. ||5||
Nobody can erase the writ of destiny of past actions. However, one can also be emancipated by the Guru’s grace.
(ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਾ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਇਸ ਲੇਖ ਤੋਂ) ਉਹੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਤੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
pay-ee-arhai pir jaato naahee.
In this world which is like her parent’s house, the young soul bride does not try to form relationship with her Husband-God.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ।
ਝੂਠਿ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਰੋਵੈ ਧਾਹੀ ॥
jhooth vichhunnee rovai Dhaahee.
Through ego she has been separated from God, and her soul is crying to meet Him.
ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਹ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਧਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਅਵਗਣ ਗੁਣਿ ਬਖਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
avgan muthee mahal na paa-ay avgan gun bakhsaavani-aa. ||6||
Entrapped Egocentric is not able to have union with God. Only God can forgive her if she imbues herself with the divine virtues.
ਜਿਸ (ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਨੂੰ ਪਾਪ (-ਸੁਭਾਵ) ਨੇ ਲੁੱਟ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਹਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਔਗਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
pay-ee-arhai jin jaataa pi-aaraa.
The soul Bride that created the relationship with her beloved God while living in this world,
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
gurmukh boojhai tat beechaaraa.
through the Guru, she realizes and reflects on the essence of divine wisdom.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
aavan jaanaa thaak rahaa-ay sachai naam samaavani-aa. ||7||
Those who are absorbed in Naam, their cycle of birth and death cease and they merge with Him.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਰੋਕ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh boojhai akath kahaavai.
The Gurus Follower understands the virtues of the Almighty and inspires others to follow the path of understanding God ‘s virtues.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਾਚੋ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
sachay thaakur saacho bhaavai.
Ever Present Almighty only likes Truth and Truthful Living.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਕਰਮ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak sach kahai baynantee sach milai gun gaavani-aa. ||8||1||
Nanak makes this submission: that the true God is realized only by singing His praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈਆਂ (ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l

ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
karam hovai satguroo milaa-ay.
When God showers His grace on someone, He unites that person with the true Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
