ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਨਹ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਭੇਖੰ ॥
khat darsan bharamtay fireh nah milee-ai bhaykhaN.
The followers of the six orders of Yoga wander around wearing different religious robes, but God cannot be realized by adorning holy garbs.
ਛੇ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਧੂ (ਵਿਅਰਥ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਵਰਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਇਣਾ ਸੇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲੇਖੰ ॥
varat karahi chandraa-inaa say kitai na laykhaN.
Many people observe fasts related to different phases of the moon, but these too are of no help to realize God.
(ਕਈ ਬੰਦੇ) ਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਇਣ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਾ ਤਤੁ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਪੇਖੰ ॥
bayd parheh sampoornaa tat saar na paykhaN.
Those who read the Vedas in their entirety, still do not see the essence of reality.
ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਤਿਲਕੁ ਕਢਹਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਾਲੇਖੰ ॥
tilak kadheh isnaan kar antar kaalaykhaN.
Many people apply ceremonial marks to their foreheads and take cleansing baths, but within their minds is the dirt of vices.
ਕਈ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਤਿਲਕ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕਾਲਖ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ )।
ਭੇਖੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਚੀ ਸਿਖੰ ॥
bhaykhee parabhoo na labh-ee vin sachee sikhaN.
God is not realized by wearing religious robes; God is not realized without the true teachings of the Guru.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਭੂਲਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਸੋ ਪਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੰ ॥
bhoolaa maarag so pavai jis Dhur mastak laykhaN.
One who is strayed, finds righteous path in life only if he is so preordained.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਅੇਸਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਭੀ ਠੀਕ) ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਖੀ ਦੇਖੰ ॥੧੩॥
tin janam savaari-aa aapnaa jin gur akhee daykhaN. ||13||
One who has seen the Guru with his eyes and has followed his teachings, he has achieved the purpose of human life. ||13|
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ ਸਫਲਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਸੋ ਨਿਵਾਹੂ ਗਡਿ ਜੋ ਚਲਾਊ ਨ ਥੀਐ ॥
so nivaahoo gad jo chalaa-oo na thee-ai.
O’ brother, God who never abandons and stays with the one till the end, firmly enshrine Him in your heart,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਤੋੜ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ।
ਕਾਰ ਕੂੜਾਵੀ ਛਡਿ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਧਣੀ ॥੧॥
kaar koorhaavee chhad sammal sach Dhanee. ||1||
abandon your false actions (for Maya), and remember the eternal God. ||1||
ਆਪਣੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਹਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਹਭ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਘਟਾਊ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ॥
habh samaanee jot ji-o jal ghataa-oo chandarmaa.
Just as there is reflection of the moon in the pitchers of water, similarly God’s divine light permeates all beings.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਘੜਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ (ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬਿੰਬ) ਹੈ l
ਪਰਗਟੁ ਥੀਆ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ॥੨॥
pargat thee-aa aap naanak mastak likhi-aa. ||2||
O’ Nanak, God manifests Himself only in the one who is preordained. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ਲੇਖ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਹੋ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਮੁਖ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਉ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
mukh suhaavay naam cha-o aath pahar gun gaa-o.
The faces of those look beautifully radiant who always remember God and sing His praises.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਸੁੰਦਰ (ਦਿੱਸਦੇ) ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਗਹ ਮੰਨੀਅਹਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥੩॥
naanak dargeh manee-ah milee nithaavay thaa-o. ||3||
O’ Nanak, they are recognized with honor in God’s presence and even the supportless find support and honor. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਣ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥

Pauree:
ਬਾਹਰ ਭੇਖਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
baahar bhaykh na paa-ee-ai parabh antarjaamee.
God is not realized by any outwardly appearance because He is omniscient.
ਰੱਬ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਇਕਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਨਿਕਾਮੀ ॥
ikas har jee-o baahree sabh firai nikaamee.
The entire world is wandering around uselessly without remembering God.
ਇਕ ਰੱਬ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਵਿਚਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਿਉ ਨਿਤ ਗਰਬਿ ਫਿਰਾਮੀ ॥
man rataa kutamb si-o nit garab firaamee.
Those people whose minds are attached to their family, always walk around egotistically.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਫਿਰਹਿ ਗੁਮਾਨੀ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਗਰਬਹਿ ਦਾਮੀ ॥
fireh gumaanee jag meh ki-aa garbeh daamee.
The worldly wealthy people also roam around in the world arrogantly; but what are they proud of?
ਮਾਇਆ-ਧਾਰੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਕੜ ਆਕੜ ਕੇ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਚੀਜ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ?
ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਖਿਨ ਜਾਇ ਬਿਲਾਮੀ ॥
chaldi-aa naal na chal-ee khin jaa-ay bilaamee.
Because the worldly wealth does not accompany while departing from the world, and leaves one in an instant.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਖਿਨ ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਚਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਹੁਕਾਮੀ ॥
bicharday fireh sansaar meh har jee hukaamee.
According to God’s command many people are wandering around aimlessly in the world.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਮੁ ਖੁਲਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
karam khulaa gur paa-i-aa har mili-aa su-aamee.
One on whom the door of God’s grace opens, meets the Guru and realizes God.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ (ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ) ਖੁਲ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਾਮੀ ॥੧੪॥
jo jan har kaa sayvko har tis kee kaamee. ||14||
One who lovingly remembers God, He accomplishes that person’s affairs. ||14||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਮੁਖਹੁ ਅਲਾਏ ਹਭ ਮਰਣੁ ਪਛਾਣੰਦੋ ਕੋਇ ॥
mukhahu alaa-ay habh maran pachhaanado ko-ay.
With their mouth all talks about death, but a rare person understands this reality.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੌਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਯਕੀਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਾ ਖਾਕੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਯਕੀਨਾ ਹਿਕ ਸਿਉ ॥੧॥
naanak tinaa khaak jinaa yakeenaa hik si-o. ||1||
O, Nanak! I am like the dust of the feet of those who have faith in God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਜਾਣੁ ਵਸੰਦੋ ਮੰਝਿ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਕੋ ਹੇਕੜੋ ॥
jaan vasando manjh pachhaanoo ko haykrho.
The omniscient God dwells within all, but only a rare person understands it.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੈ ਤਨਿ ਪੜਦਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ॥੨॥
tai tan parh-daa naahi naanak jai gur bhayti-aa. ||2||
O’ Nanak!, there is no veil of spiritual darkness in the heart of that person, who has met the Guru and has followed his teachings. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਵਿੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਮਤੜੀ ਕਾਂਢਕੁ ਆਹ ਪਾਵ ਧੋਵੰਦੋ ਪੀਵਸਾ ॥
mat-rhee kaaNdhak aah paav Dhovando peevsaa.
One who could dispel the evil intellect from within me, I would dedicate to him with extreme humility that I would even drink the washings of his feet;
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤ ਨੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕੱਢ ਦੇਵੇ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪੀਵਾਂਗਾ।
ਮੂ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਅਥਾਹ ਪਸਣ ਕੂ ਸਚਾ ਧਣੀ ॥੩॥
moo tan paraym athaah pasan koo sachaa Dhanee. ||3||
because within my heart is intense longing to see the eternal God, (but the evil intellect is the obstacle in the way). ||3||
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ (ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਕ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥

Pauree:
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਚਾ ॥
nirbha-o naam visaari-aa naal maa-i-aa rachaa.
One who has forsaken the fearless God’s Name and is engrossed in the Maya,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਨਚਾ ॥
aavai jaa-ay bhavaa-ee-ai baho jonee nachaa.
he is made to go through the rounds of birth and death, and wanders in myriads of incarnations.
ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਚਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਖਿਸਕਿ ਜਾਇ ਬੋਲੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਚਾ ॥
bachan karay tai khisak jaa-ay bolay sabh kachaa.
He gives his word, but then backs out and all he says is false.
ਉਹ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਚਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਫਿਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਝੂਠੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਥੋਥਾ ਕੂੜਿਆਰੁ ਕੂੜੀ ਸਭ ਖਚਾ ॥
andrahu thothaa koorhi-aar koorhee sabh khachaa.
That liar is hollow from inside and all that person’s talk is false.
ਉਹ ਝੂਠਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ) ਝੂਠੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਗੱਪ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚਾ ॥
vair karay nirvair naal jhoothay laalchaa.
Driven by false greed he bears enmity even with one who has enmity with none.
ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਉਹ, ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਵੈਰ ਕਮਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਚਾ ॥
maari-aa sachai paatisaah vaykh Dhur karamchaa.
The eternal God, the sovereign King, has spiritually destroyed him from the very beginning because of his past deeds.
ਮੁੰਢ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਮਦੂਤੀ ਹੈ ਹੇਰਿਆ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਚਾ ॥
jamdootee hai hayri-aa dukh hee meh pachaa.
He always remains in the fear of death, and rots away in sorrows.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਜਮਦੂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਆ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਧਰਮ ਕਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ॥੧੫॥
ho-aa tapaavas Dharam kaa naanak dar sachaa. ||15||
O’ Nanak! true justice is administered in God’s presence. ||15||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ (ਹੀ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਪਰਭਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
parbhaatay parabh naam jap gur kay charan Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ brother, in the early hours of the morning, respectfully focus on the Guru’s teachings and lovingly remember God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ, ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਮਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥
janam maran mal utrai sachay kay gun gaa-ay. ||1||
The filth of vices, the cause of the cycle of birth and death, is washed off from the mind by singing praises of the eternal God. ||1||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਦੇਹ ਅੰਧਾਰੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ॥
dayh anDhaaree anDh sunjee naam vihoonee-aa.
Spiritually ignorant and devoid of spiritual life is that person who is bereft of God’s Name.
ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਰੀਰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੋਂ) ਸੱਖਣਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਫਲ ਜਨੰਮੁ ਜੈ ਘਟਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਸਚੁ ਧਣੀ ॥੨॥
naanak safal jannam jai ghat vuthaa sach Dhanee. ||2||
O’ Nanak, fruitful is the life of that person in whose heart manifests the eternal Master-God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਲੋਇਣ ਲੋਈ ਡਿਠ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਮੂ ਘਣੀ ॥
lo-in lo-ee dith pi-aas na bujhai moo ghanee.
My yearning for the Maya does not end and more I see the worldly things, it keeps increasing.
(ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਮੈਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਨਿਰੇ) ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਭਾਵ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਲਾਲਸਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
