ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਊਤਮ ਜੋ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਮ ਮਨਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੮॥
kaho naanak say-ee jan ootam jo bhaaveh su-aamee tum manaa. ||16||1||8||
O’ Nanak! say: O’ God! only those persons are exalted who are pleasing to You. ||16||1||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ,-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੮॥

Raag Maaroo, Fifth Guru:
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਮਰਥ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਦਾਨਾ ॥
parabh samrath sarab sukh daanaa.
O’ all powerful God, the benefactor of all peace and comforts,
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ!
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੋਹੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
simra-o naam hohu miharvaanaa.
please! be kind and bless me that I may keep remembering You with adoration.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਜਨੁ ਬਾਂਛੈ ਜਾਚੰਗਨਾ ॥੧॥
har daataa jee-a jant bhaykhaaree jan baaNchhai jaachangnaa. ||1||
God is the benefactor and all living beings are His beggars; becoming a beggar, His devotee begs for Naam. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਨ। (ਨਾਨਕ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਮੰਗਤਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਾਗਉ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
maaga-o jan Dhoor param gat paava-o.
I beg for the dust of the feet (humble service) of His devotees, so that I may be blessed with the supreme spiritual state,
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਮਿਟਾਵਉ ॥
janam janam kee mail mitaava-o.
and thus be able to eradicate the filth of vices of my countless births.
ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ।
ਦੀਰਘ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਰਾਪੈ ਮੰਗਨਾ ॥੨॥
deeragh rog miteh har a-ukhaDh har nirmal raapai mangnaa. ||2||
The chronic diseases (of those who remember God with full faith and devotion) are cured by the medicine of God’s Name; I too beg to be imbued with God’s immaculate Name. ||2||
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਡੇ-ਵੱਡੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਸੁਣਉ ਬਿਮਲ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
sarvanee suna-o bimal jas su-aamee.
O’ my Master-God, please bless me that I may keep listening to Your immaculate praises with my own ears,
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜਸ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
ਏਕਾ ਓਟ ਤਜਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾਮੀ ॥
aykaa ot taja-o bikh kaamee.
I may lean only on Your support, and abandon the poison of worldly desires and lust which is cause of spiritual deterioration.
ਇਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿਆਂ,
ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਪਾਇ ਲਗਉ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਗਨਾ ॥੩॥
niv niv paa-ay laga-o daas tayray kar sukarit naahee sangnaa. ||3||
I may always bow down and touch the feet of Your devotees (humbly serve Your devotees); I may never hesitate in doing this sublime deed. ||3||
ਮੈਂ ਨਿਊਂ ਨਿਊਂ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ। ਇਹ ਨੇਕ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਝਾਕਾ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗੇ ॥੩॥
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
rasnaa gun gaavai har tayray.
O’ God, bless me that my tongue may always sing Your praises,
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੀ ਰਹੇ,
ਮਿਟਹਿ ਕਮਾਤੇ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
miteh kamaatay avgun mayray.
so that the sins I have committed in the past are erased.
ਤੇ, ਮੇਰੇ (ਪਿਛਲੇ) ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਔਗੁਣ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਣ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਤਜਿ ਤੰਗਨਾ ॥੪॥
simar simar su-aamee man jeevai panch doot taj tangnaa. ||4||
O’ God! bestow mercy, that by always remembering You, my mind may remain spiritually alive by renouncing the five oppressive demon-like vices. ||4||
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ ॥੪॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਪਿ ਬੋਹਿਥਿ ਚਰੀਐ ॥
charan kamal jap bohith charee-ai.
O’ brother, we should meditate on God’s immaculate Name and board the ship of Naam,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਵਿਚ ਚੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
satsang mil saagar taree-ai.
because the worldly ocean of vices can be crossed over by joining the company of the Guru and meditating on Naam.
ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਰਚਾ ਬੰਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਮਤ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਨੰਗਨਾ ॥੫॥
archaa bandan har samat nivaasee baahurh jon na nangnaa. ||5||
The true devotional worship by offering flowers etc is to realize God pervading alike in all; this way, one is not disgraced by going through reincarnations. ||5||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ-ਸਮਾਨ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਣਾ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਰਚਾ-ਪੂਜਾ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੰਦਨਾ। (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੰਗਾ (ਬੇਪਤ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੫॥
ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਗੋੁਪਾਲਾ ॥ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
daas daasan ko kar layho gopaalaa. kirpaa niDhaan deen da-i-aalaa.
O’ the Master of the universe, the treasure of mercy and kind to the meek! make me the devotee of Your devotees.
ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ!ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।
ਸਖਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਮਿਲੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਭੰਗਨਾ ॥੬॥
sakhaa sahaa-ee pooran parmaysur mil kaday na hovee bhangnaa. ||6||
O’ all-pervading God, You are my friend and helper; meeting You, I do not experience any problem. ||6||
ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈਂ। ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਘਨ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੬॥
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਗੈ ॥
man tan arap Dharee har aagai.
One who surrenders his mind and body before God,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
janam janam kaa so-i-aa jaagai.
awakens from a spiritual slumber of many births.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਭੀ) ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕੁ ਹਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੰਤਨਾ ॥੭॥
jis kaa saa so-ee partipaalak hat ti-aagee ha-umai hantnaa. ||7||
God who created him, becomes his savior; that person then eradicates and renounces his ego, the cause of spiritual deterioration ||7||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਉਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
jal thal pooran antarjaamee.
The omniscient God is pervading the water and the land.
ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ|
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਅਛਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
ghat ghat ravi-aa achhal su-aamee.
The undeceivable Master-God is pervading each and every heart.
ਨਾਹ ਛਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ|
ਭਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਖੋਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਏਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਰਬੰਗਨਾ ॥੮॥
bharam bheet kho-ee gur poorai ayk ravi-aa sarbangnaa. ||8||
A person from whose mind, the perfect Guru has removed the wall of doubt (which separates him from God), experiences God pervading in all. ||8||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ॥
jat kat paykha-o parabh sukh saagar.
Wherever I look, there I experience God, the ocean of peace.
ਮੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਪਾਸੇ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਤਨਾਗਰ ॥
har tot bhandaar naahee ratnaagar.
God is like a treasure of jewels of Name in which there is never any shortage.
ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਣ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਕਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਅਗਹ ਅਗਾਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪੰਗਨਾ ॥੯॥
agah agaah kichh mit nahee paa-ee-ai so boojhai jis kirpangnaa. ||9||
God is inaccessible and unfathomable, His limit cannot be found and only that person understands it on whom He bestows grace. ||9||
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੱਦ-ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਜੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਜਕੜ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।ਪਰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੯॥
ਛਾਤੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਠੰਢਾ ॥
chhaatee seetal man tan thandhaa.
The hearts of those people (who are blessed by God) is soothed, their minds and bodies are calmed,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ , ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕੀ ਮਿਟਵੀ ਡੰਝਾ ॥
janam maran kee mitvee danjhaa.
their burning fear of birth and death is removed,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੜਨ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ,
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਅਮਿਓ ਧਾਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੰਗਨਾ ॥੧੦॥
kar geh kaadh lee-ay parabh apunai ami-o Dhaar daristangnaa. ||10||
upon whom God bestowed ambrosial glance of grace and pulled them out of the worldly ocean of vices by holding their hands.||10||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆ ॥੧੦॥
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ॥
ayko ayk ravi-aa sabh thaa-ee.
The person who is blessed by God, envisions the one and only one God pervading everywhere,
ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭਨੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
tis bin doojaa ko-ee naahee.
and realizes that except for Him there is none other.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ l
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝੀ ਭਰਮੰਗਨਾ ॥੧੧॥
aad maDh ant parabh ravi-aa tarisan bujhee bharmangnaa. ||11||
He realizes that God has been there since the beginning, is present now, and will be till the end; therefore, his worldly desire and doubt comes to an end. ||11||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਹੀ ਹੁਣ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।॥੧੧॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥

The Guru is the embodiment of the supreme God, the master of the universe.
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ
ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਦ ਬਖਸੰਦੁ ॥
gur kartaa gur sad bakhsand.
The Guru is the embodiment of the Creator and is always gracious.
ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਤਾਰ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਿ ਜਪਤ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਨਾ ॥੧੨॥
gur jap jaap japat fal paa-i-aa gi-aan deepak sant sangnaa. ||12||
This is understood by that person, in whose mind the lamp of divine wisdom lights up by meditating on God’s Name in the company of saintly people. ||12||
ਇਹ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਜੋ ਪੇਖਾ ਸੋ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jo paykhaa so sabh kichh su-aamee.
Whatever I see in this world, all that is embodiment of the Master-God,
(ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਮੈਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
jo sunnaa so parabh kee baanee.
and whatever I hear seems as if God Himself is speaking.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਆਪ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਕੀਨੋ ਸੋ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਕਰਾਇਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਸੰਤਹ ਤਨਾ ॥੧੩॥
jo keeno so tumeh karaa-i-o saran sahaa-ee santeh tanaa. ||13||
O’ God, whatever people do, it is You who makes them do; You help those who seek Your refuge and You are the support of the saints. ||13||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਸਰਨ-ਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੩॥
ਜਾਚਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਅਰਾਧੈ ॥
jaachak jaachai tumeh araaDhai.
Your devotee seeks everything only from You and lovingly remembers You alone.
(ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ) ਮੰਗਤਾ (ਦਾਸ) ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਧੈ ॥
patit paavan pooran parabh saaDhai.
O’ the purifier of sinners, the superbly perfect God,
ਹੇ ਪਤਿਤ-ਪਾਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਾਧ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
ਏਕੋ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਨ ਮੰਗਨ ਨਿਹਕਿੰਚਨਾ ॥੧੪॥
ayko daan sarab sukh gun niDh aan mangan nihkinchnaa. ||14||
O’ the treasure of all bliss and virtues, Your devotee begs for one and only one gift of Naam, because asking for other things is useless. ||14||
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਮੰਗਣੀਆਂ ਨਿਕੰਮੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧੪॥
