ਇਕਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਇਕਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ਸਭਸੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਰਣਾ ॥੩॥
ik bhookhay ik taripat aghaa-ay sabhsai tayraa paarnaa. ||3||
There are some who are hungry because of poverty, while others who are well off so they are satiated; but all of them lean on Your support. ||3||
ਕਈ ਸਦਾ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਭੁਖੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਰੱਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਾਚਾ ॥
aapay sat sat sat saachaa.
Only God Himself is truly eternal,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚਾ ॥
ot pot bhagtan sang raachaa.
He remains integrated with His devotees through and through.
ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਚਿਆ-ਮਿਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਸਾਰਣਾ ॥੪॥
aapay gupat aapay hai pargat apnaa aap pasaarnaa. ||4||
God Himself is invisible and Himself visible, and He has spread Himself in the form of this universe. ||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਹੋਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sadaa sadaa sad hovanhaaraa.
God has been there, is present now and will always be there.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
oochaa agam athaahu apaaraa.
He is the highest of the high, inaccessible, unfathomable, and infinite.
(ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਊਣੇ ਭਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਭਰਿ ਊਣੇ ਏਹਿ ਚਲਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਣਾ ॥੫॥
oonay bharay bharay bhar oonay ayhi chalat su-aamee kay kaarnaa. ||5||
He fills the empty and empties the full (He makes the poor rich, and the rich poor); all such wonders are the doings of the Master-God. ||5||
ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਕੌਤਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸੱਖਣੇ (ਭਾਂਡੇ) ਭਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹਾ ॥
mukh saalaahee sachay saahaa.
O’ my eternal God, bless me that I may always recite Your praises.
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਨੈਣੀ ਪੇਖਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥
nainee paykhaa agam athaahaa.
O’ inaccessible and unfathomable Almighty, bless me that with my eyes I may be able to behold You everywhere.
ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਮੈਂ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਾਂ l
ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਣਾ ॥੬॥
karnee sun sun man tan hari-aa mayray saahib sagal uDhaaranaa. ||6||
O’ my Master-God, the saviour of all, my mind and body may remain spiritually blossomed by always listening to Your praises with my ears. ||6||
ਹੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਨਹਾਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ!ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਲ) ਹਰਿਆ-ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੬॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ॥
kar kar vaykheh keetaa apnaa.
O’ brother, after creating His creation, God takes care of His created beings,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਪਣਾ ॥
jee-a jant so-ee hai japnaa.
all the human beings meditate on that Creator.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਨੇ ਉਸੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਣਾ ॥੭॥
apnee kudrat aapay jaanai nadree nadar nihaalanaa. ||7||
God Himself knows about His creative power; the Merciful God bestows gracious glance on all. ||7||
ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਸਭ ਵਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਜਹ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸੇ ॥
sant sabhaa jah baiseh parabh paasay.
God’s devotees sit in the congregation of saints and feel close to God,
ਜਿਸ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਹਰਿ ਚਲਤ ਤਮਾਸੇ ॥
anand mangal har chalat tamaasay.
and they enjoy the spiritually bliss by talking about God’s wonders.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੌਤਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਤਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਚਿਤਾਰਣਾ ॥੮॥
gun gaavahi anhad Dhun banee tah naanak daas chitaaranaa. ||8||
They sing God’s praises in continuous divine melody; devotee Nanak also remembers Him in the congregation of saints. ||8||
ਉਹ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸੁਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ) ਉਸ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥
aavan jaanaa sabh chalat tumaaraa.
O’ God, all this coming and going (birth and death) is the wondrous process created by You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜੰਮਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਨਾ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ (ਰਚਿਆ) ਖੇਲ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਖੇਲੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
kar kar daykhai khayl apaaraa.
O’ my friends, after creating it, the infinite God watches it Himself.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਹ ਖੇਲ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਲਣਾ ॥੯॥
aap upaa-ay upaavanhaaraa apnaa kee-aa paalnaa. ||9||
The Creator Himself creates His creation and then nurtures it. ||9||
ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ) ਨੂੰ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਸੋਇ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
sun sun jeevaa so-ay tumaaree.
O’ God, I become spiritually rejuvenated by always listening to Your glory,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
sadaa sadaa jaa-ee balihaaree.
and I am dedicated to You forever and ever.
ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਣਾ ॥੧੦॥
du-ay kar jorh simra-o din raatee mayray su-aamee agam apaaranaa. ||10||
O’ my inaccessible and infinite God, I always respectfully remember You with my both hands folded together. ||10||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮਾਲਕ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਮੈਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧੦॥
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
tuDh bin doojay kis saalaahee.
O’ God, except You, who else can I praise?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੀਹਦੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਰਾਂ?
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਜਪੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
ayko ayk japee man maahee.
I meditate on the one and only one Master-God in my mind.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਜਨ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਘਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੧॥
hukam boojh jan bha-ay nihaalaa ih bhagtaa kee ghaalnaa. ||11||
Your devotees remain delighted by understanding Your will, and this is the achievement of Your devotees. ||11||
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ-ਮੱਥੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਿਆਂ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਈ ॥੧੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ॥
gur updays japee-ai man saachaa.
By following the Guru’s teachings, we should meditate on Almighty in our mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਚਾ ॥
gur updays raam rang raachaa.
By following Guru’s teachings, the mind remains imbued with the love of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਤੁਟਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਇਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਰਜਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੨॥
gur updays tuteh sabh banDhan ih bharam moh parjaalanaa. ||12||
By following Guru’s teachings, all the bonds of love for Maya are broken, this doubt and the emotional worldly attachments are burnt down. ||12||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮੋਹ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਜਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖ ਥਾਨਾ ॥
jah raakhai so-ee sukh thaanaa.
One who believes that wherever God keeps us, is the most blissful place,
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
sehjay ho-ay so-ee bhal maanaa.
and accepts that whatever is naturally happening is the best for all.
ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਭਲਾਈ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਬਿਨਸੇ ਬੈਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਬੈਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੩॥
binsay bair naahee ko bairee sabh ayko hai bhaalnaa. ||13||
All the enmity disappears from his mind, he considers no one as his enemy and beholds the same God in everyone. ||13||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵੈਰ-ਵਿਰੋਧ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਡਰ ਚੂਕੇ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ॥
dar chookay binsay anDhi-aaray.
All his fears are dispelled and the darkness of spiritual ignorance is removed
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥
pargat bha-ay parabh purakh niraaray.
The all pervading God, detached from materialism, becomes manifest within him.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਘਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੪॥
aap chhod pa-ay sarnaa-ee jis kaa saa tis ghaalnaa. ||14||
Shedding self-conceit, he surrenders to the refuge of God; he dedicates himself to the remembrance of God, to whom he belongs. ||14||
ਉਹ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ-ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਐਸਾ ਕੋ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
aisaa ko vadbhaagee aa-i-aa.
Only a very rare blessed person comes into this world,
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਨਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
aath pahar jin khasam Dhi-aa-i-aa.
who always lovingly remembers the Master-God.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਧਾਰਣਾ ॥੧੫॥
tis jan kai sang tarai sabh ko-ee so parvaar saDhaaranaa. ||15||
In the company of such a devotee, everyone swims across the world-ocean of vices, and he becomes the spiritual support for his family. ||15||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥। ॥੧੫॥
ਇਹ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਖਸਮ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
ih bakhsees khasam tay paavaa.
I wish to receive this blessing from the Master-God,
(ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਹਾਸਿਲ ਕਰਾਂ,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਧਿਆਵਾ ॥
aath pahar kar jorh Dhi-aavaa.
that with folded hands I may always lovingly remember Him,
ਕਿ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਉਚਾਰਣਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੬॥
naam japee naam sahj samaavaa naam naanak milai uchaaranaa. ||16||1||6||
O’ Nanak, I may keep meditating on Naam and intuitively merge in Naam itself; also I may be blessed with the gift of reciting Naam. ||16||1||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੬॥

Raag Maaroo, Fifth Guru:
ਸੂਰਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥
soorat daykh na bhool gavaaraa.
O’ ignorant fool, do not be misled by the beauty of things.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸ਼ਕਲ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਨਾਹ ਖਾਹ।
ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹਾਰਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
mithan mohaaraa jhooth pasaaraa.
False is the love for worldly things and short lived is the expanse of the world.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਾ ॥੧॥
jag meh ko-ee rahan na paa-ay nihchal ayk naaraa-inaa. ||1||
In this world, nobody can live forever; God alone is eternal. ||1||
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਪਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
gur pooray kee pa-o sarnaa-ee.
O’ brother, stay in the refuge of the perfect Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਮੋਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
moh sog sabh bharam mitaa-ee.
The Guru dispels all the emotional attachment, sorrow, and doubt of a person who comes to his refuge.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮੋਹ ਸੋਗ ਤੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਭਰਮ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੋ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਗਾਇਣਾ ॥੨॥
ayko mantar drirh-aa-ay a-ukhaDh sach naam rid gaa-inaa. ||2||
The Guru firmly implants only one mantra, the cure for all afflictions, that one should always lovingly remember God in his heart. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਇਕੋ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਕੋ ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
