ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
nirankaar aakaar upaa-i-aa.
The formless God created this visible form of the world,
ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa moh hukam banaa-i-aa.
and then by His command, He created the love for Maya, the worldly riches and power.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
aapay khayl karay sabh kartaa sun saachaa man vasaa-idaa. ||1||
Upon listening from the Guru, one who enshrines the eternal God in his mind, develops firm belief that the Creator-God is performing plays of the world. ||1||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਸੂਤਿ ਜਮਾਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa maa-ee tarai gun parsoot jamaa-i-aa.
God created the human beings who are governed by the three modes of Maya (virtue, vice, and power) as if this Maya gave birth to them.
ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣੀ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ
ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਨੋ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
chaaray bayd barahmay no furmaa-i-aa.
God commanded the lord Brahma, to utter the four Vedas (Hindu scriptures).
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ (ਰਚਣ ਲਈ) ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਮਾਹ ਵਾਰ ਥਿਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
varHay maah vaar thitee kar is jag meh sojhee paa-idaa. ||2||
It is God who provides understanding about time by creating years, months, solar and lunar days. ||2||
ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਾਰ ਥਿੱਤਾਂ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਸਮੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰ ॥
gur sayvaa tay karnee saar.
By following the Guru’s teachings, one understands about the most sublime deed in life,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰ ॥
raam naam raakho ur Dhaar.
that Keep God’s Name enshrined in your heart.
ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖੋ।
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਇਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
gurbaanee vartee jag antar is banee tay har naam paa-idaa. ||3||
In this world, the person in whose mind the Guru’s word becomes enshrined, realizes God’s Name through this divine word of the Guru. ||3||
ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਵੇਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਵਾਦ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
vayd parhai an-din vaad samaalay.
One who only reads Vedas (scriptures) and always indulges in religious debates,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਹੀ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਧਾ ਜਮਕਾਲੇ ॥
naam na chaytai baDhaa jamkaalay.
but does not lovingly remember God, remains entangled in the worldly bonds which leads to spiritual deterioration.
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
doojai bhaa-ay sadaa dukh paa-ay tarai gun bharam bhulaa-idaa. ||4||
In the love for duality, such a person always endures misery; in the illusion of the three modes of Maya (vice, virtue, and power), he remains astray from the righteous path of life. ||4||
ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
gurmukh aykas si-o liv laa-ay.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, develops true love only for God,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
taribaDh mansaa maneh samaa-ay.
he quietens the thoughts motivated by the three impulses of Maya (vice, virtue and power) in his mind.
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
saachai sabad sadaa hai muktaa maa-i-aa moh chukaa-idaa. ||5||
Through the divine word of God’s praises, he is liberated forever from vices and abandons his love for the materialism. ||5||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੇ ਹੁਣਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
jo Dhur raatay say hun raatay.
Only those who are pre-ordained to be imbued with God’s love, are imbued with God’s love in this life.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਲਈ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਣਾ ਨੀਅਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
gur parsaadee sehjay maatay.
By the Guru’s grace, they remain elated in a state of spiritual stability.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
satgur sayv sadaa parabh paa-i-aa aapai aap milaa-idaa. ||6||
One who has realized God by always following the true Guru’s teachings; God unites that person with Himself. ||6||
ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi bharam na paa-ay.
A person entangled in doubt and the love for materialism, cannot realize God.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay lagaa dukh paa-ay.
Attached to the love of duality (other than God), one endures misery.
ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੂਹਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਇਸੁ ਜਾਦੇ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
soohaa rang din thorhay hovai is jaaday bilam na laa-idaa. ||7||
Like the bright color (of safflower), the glitter and pleasure of materialism lasts only for a few days, it does not take long to vanish. ||7||
(ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਂਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਸ਼ੋਖ਼ ਰੰਗ ਥੋੜੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥੭॥
ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗਾਏ ॥
ayhu man bhai bhaa-ay rangaa-ay.
One who imbues his mind with the revered fear of God;
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
it rang saachay maahi samaa-ay.
because of it, he merges with the eternal God.
ਉਹ ਇਸ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ (ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੋ ਇਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
poorai bhaag ko ih rang paa-ay gurmatee rang charhaa-idaa. ||8||
But a rare person with perfect destiny receives the love for God and imbues his mind with it through the Guru’s teachings. ||8||
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਰੰਗ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਚਾੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
manmukh bahut karay abhimaan.
A self-willed person indulges in too much egotistical pride,
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੜਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦਰਗਹ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
dargeh kab hee na paavai maan.
he never receives honor in God’s presence.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
doojai laagay janam gavaa-i-aa bin boojhay dukh paa-idaa. ||9||
Being attached to duality (materialism), he wastes away life; without understanding the righteous way of life, he endures misery. ||9||
ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਗੰਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
mayrai parabh andar aap lukaa-i-aa.
Even though my God has hidden Himself deep within everyone,
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਪਤ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
gur parsaadee har milai milaa-i-aa.
still that person unites with Him, whom the Guru unites through his grace.
(ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
sachaa parabh sachaa vaapaaraa naam amolak paa-idaa. ||10||
Eternal is God and eternal is the trade of Naam; one who trades in it, receives this invaluable Naam. ||10||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ; ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਇਹ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਣਮੁੱਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ॥੧੦॥
ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
is kaa-i-aa kee keemat kinai na paa-ee.
No one has truly realized the worth of this human body.
ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝੀ।
ਮੇਰੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਇਹ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
mayrai thaakur ih banat banaa-ee.
My Master-God has created this tradition,
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਹੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧੈ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
gurmukh hovai so kaa-i-aa soDhai aapeh aap milaa-idaa. ||11||
that one who follows the Guru’s teaching, purifies his body by keeping it safe from vices, and then God unites him with Himself. ||11||
ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੋਟਾ ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਾਹਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa vich totaa kaa-i-aa vich laahaa.
It is through this body that one suffers a spiritual loss or earns spiritual profit.
ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰਹੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਘਾਟਾ ਉਠਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਲਾਭ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
gurmukh khojay vayparvaahaa.
The Guru’s follower searches for the carefree God within himself.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
gurmukh vanaj sadaa sukh paa-ay sehjay sahj milaa-idaa. ||12||
The Guru’s follower receives inner peace forever through the trade of Naam; he intuitively remains in a state of spiritual poise. ||12||
ਨਾਮ-ਵਣਜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਸਚਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਚੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa mahal sachay bhandaaraa.
Eternal is God’s presence and eternal are His treasures.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਭੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
aapay dayvai dayvanhaaraa.
God, the benefactor, Himself gives the needed gifts to all.
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
gurmukh saalaahay sukh-daatay man maylay keemat paa-idaa. ||13||
A Guru’s follower always praises God, the Giver of peace; he enshrines God in his mind and understands His worth. ||13||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
kaa-i-aa vich vasat keemat nahee paa-ee.
The wealth of Naam is within the human body, but one does not understand its worth.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
gurmukh aapay day vadi-aa-ee.
God Himself grants the glorious greatness of Naam through the Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹਟੁ ਸੋਈ ਵਥੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
jis daa hat so-ee vath jaanai gurmukh day-ay na pachhotaa-idaa. ||14||
God alone knows the worth of Naam to whom this body belongs; God does not regret after bestowing Naam through the Guru. ||14||.
ਇਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ (ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ-) ਹੱਟ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਾਮ-) ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਦੀ ਕਦਰ) ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧੪॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
har jee-o sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ee.
Reverend God is pervading in all,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee paa-i-aa jaa-ee.
but He is realized only by the Guru’s grace.
(ਪਰ ਉਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
aapay mayl milaa-ay aapay sabday sahj samaa-idaa. ||15||
On His own, God unites one with Him by first uniting with the Guru; God keeps a person absorbed in a state of spiritual poise through the divine word. ||15||
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
