ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਸਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
ghat ghat vas rahi-aa jagjeevan daataa.
the Life of the world, pervading in each and every heart.
ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਕ ਥੈ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
ik thai gupat pargat hai aapay gurmukh bharam bha-o jaa-ee hay. ||15||
God dwells at places invisible and at other places as visible (in nature); through the Guru, when one becomes certain about this, his doubt and fear ends. ||15||
ਕਿਸੇ ਥਾਂ ਉਹ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਭਰਮ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫਿਰ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਵੈਰੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧੫॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gurmukh har jee-o ayko jaataa.
A Guru’s follower recognizes the revered God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
antar naam sabad pachhaataa.
God’s Name dwells within him and he realizes Him through the Guru’s word.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੪॥
jis too deh so-ee jan paa-ay naanak naam vadaa-ee hay. ||16||4||
O’ God, whom You bless with Your Name, he alone realizes it: O’ Nanak, one receives honor through Naam (both here and hereafter). ||16||4||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੪॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੈ ॥
sach saalaahee gahir gambheerai.
I praise only the eternal, profound and unfathomable God,
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਅਥਾਹ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੈ ਚੀਰੈ ॥
sabh jag hai tis hee kai cheerai.
under whose command is the entire world.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਤੁਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਸੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
sabh ghat bhogvai sadaa din raatee aapay sookh nivaasee hay. ||1||
God always enjoys all beings and He Himself dwells in a state of bliss. ||1||
ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
sachaa saahib sachee naa-ee.
Eternal is the Master-God and eternal is His glory.
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee man vasaa-ee.
God can be enshrined in the mind by the Guru’s grace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੂਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
aapay aa-ay vasi-aa ghat antar tootee jam kee faasee hay. ||2||
In whose heart, God Himself manifests, that one’s noose of death is snapped and his cycle of birth and death ends. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਤੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
kis sayvee tai kis saalaahee.
(I wonder), whom I may serve and whom should I praise?
(ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪੁੱਛੇਂ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
satgur sayvee sabad saalaahee.
I follow the true Guru’s teachings and through his divine word praise God.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
sachai sabad sadaa mat ootam antar kamal pargaasee hay. ||3||
Through the divine word of God’s praises, one’s intellect remains sublime and he feels so delighted, as if the lotus within his heart has bloomed. ||3||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਸਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੇਹੀ ਕਾਚੀ ਕਾਗਦ ਮਿਕਦਾਰਾ ॥
dayhee kaachee kaagad mikdaaraa.
The human body is perishable like paper.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਵਾਂਗ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ,
ਬੂੰਦ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਢਹਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
boond pavai binsai dhahat na laagai baaraa.
Just as paper dissolves instantaneously when drops of water fall on it, similarly it does not take any time for the body to perish.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਇਕ) ਬੂੰਦ ਪੈ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ (ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼) ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ) ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ।
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
kanchan kaa-i-aa gurmukh boojhai jis antar naam nivaasee hay. ||4||
The body of that one remains pure like God, who understands the righteous way of life through the Guru’s teachings and in whose mind God is enshrined. ||4||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਸੁੱਧ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਚਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਕਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa cha-ukaa surat kee kaaraa.
Just as a Brahmin keeps his kitchen pure by drawing lines around it and not letting any low cast person enter in it, similarly the Guru’s follower keeps his mind pure by not letting evil thoughts in it.
ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ (ਸੁੱਚਾ) ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਚੌਂਕਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਲਗਨ ਉਸ ਚੌਂਕੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਕੀਰਾਂ ਹਨ (ਜੋ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਆ ਕੇ ਚੌਂਕਾ ਭਿੱਟਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ)
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥
har naam bhojan sach aaDhaaraa.
God’s Name is his spiritual sustenance and support in life.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
sadaa taripat pavitar hai paavan jit ghat har naam nivaasee hay. ||5||
Forever satisfied and pure is that person, within whose heart is enshrined the Name of God. ||5||
ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਰੱਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
ha-o tin balihaaree jo saachai laagay.
I am dedicated to those who remain attached to the eternal God,
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
har gun gaavahi an-din jaagay.
sing praises of God, and always remain alert to the onslaught of Maya.
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਚਾ ਸੂਖੁ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
saachaa sookh sadaa tin antar rasnaa har ras raasee hay. ||6||
True peace always prevails within them and they enjoy the elixir of God’s Name by singing God’s praises with their tongue. ||6||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
har naam chaytaa avar na poojaa.
I only lovingly remember God’s Name and do not worship anybody else.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
ayko sayvee avar na doojaa.
I perform devotional worship of God and none other.
ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਾਮਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ; ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
poorai gur sabh sach dikhaa-i-aa sachai naam nivaasee hay. ||7||
The one whom the perfect Guru has revealed the eternal God pervading everywhere, that person always remains absorbed in Him. ||7||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
bharam bharam jonee fir fir aa-i-aa.
After wandering in many existences, one has come in this world as a human being.
ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ, ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਜਾ ਖਸਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
aap bhoolaa jaa khasam bhulaa-i-aa.
When the Master-God strayed one because of his deeds, then he remains astrayed,
(ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਜਦੋਂ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਭੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਚੀਨੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
har jee-o milai taa gurmukh boojhai cheenai sabad abhinaasee hay. ||8||
When one realizes dear God through the Guru’s teachings, then he understands the purpose of human life and recognizes the eternal God’s command.||8||.
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ( ਜੀਵਨ- ਲਕਸ਼) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਭਰੇ ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ॥
kaam kroDh bharay ham apraaDhee.
We, the sinners, are full of lust and anger.
ਅਸੀਂ ਪਾਪੀ ਜੀਵ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਦੇ ਚਿੱਕੜ) ਨਾਲ ਲਿੱਬੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਲੈ ਬੋਲਹ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧੀ ॥
ki-aa muhu lai bolah naa ham gun na sayvaa saaDhee.
What could we say in our defense, we have neither any virtues nor we have performed any devotional worship?
ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਨਾਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਅਸਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਡੁਬਦੇ ਪਾਥਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
dubday paathar mayl laihu tum aapay saach naam abhinaasee hay. ||9||
O’ God, we the stone hearted people are drowning in the worldly ocean of vices, please unite us with You; only Your eternal Naam is imperishable. ||9||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਾ ਲੈ। ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗਾ ॥
naa ko-ee karay na karnai jogaa.
O’ God, (without Your will), neither one does nor is able of doing anything.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਇਗਾ ॥
aapay karahi karaaveh so ho-igaa.
Whatever You do or get done, that alone would happen.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
aapay bakhas laihi sukh paa-ay sad hee naam nivaasee hay. ||10||
The one upon whom You bestow mercy, receives inner peace and remains immersed in Your Name ||10||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਜਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
ih tan Dhartee sabad beej apaaraa.
O’ brother, consider this body like farmland, sow in it the seed of the divine word of the infinite God,
(ਆਪਣੇ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਬਣਾ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਬੀਜ ਪਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਵਣਜੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
har saachay saytee vanaj vaapaaraa.
and do the trade of Naam with the eternal God.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਵਣਜ ਕਰ।
ਸਚੁ ਧਨੁ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
sach Dhan jammi-aa tot na aavai antar naam nivaasee hay. ||11||
In this way grows the everlasting wealth of Naam, which never falls short; (one who makes such effort), God’s Name remains within him forever. ||11||
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਨਾਮ-) ਧਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਕਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ। (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਵਗਣਿਆਰੇ ਨੋ ਗੁਣੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
har jee-o avgani-aaray no gun keejai.
O’ reverend God, bless the worthless sinner with divine virtues,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ,
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
aapay bakhas laihi naam deejai.
on Your own forgive and bless him with Your Name.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਇਕਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
gurmukh hovai so pat paa-ay ikat naam nivaasee hay. ||12||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, remains immersed in God’s Name and receives honor (both here and hereafter). ||12||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸਮਝ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
antar har Dhan samajh na ho-ee.
The wealth of God’s Name is within all, but one lacks understanding about it.
ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gur parsaadee boojhai ko-ee.
Only a rare person understands this mystery through the Guru’s grace.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹ ਭੇਤ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
gurmukh hovai so Dhan paa-ay sad hee naam nivaasee hay. ||13||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, finds the wealth of Naam within and remains immersed in Naam for ever. ||13||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
anal vaa-o bharam bhulaa-ee.
In the delusion of the fire of worldly desires and the wind of vices, one remains astrayed from the righteous path of life,
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ (ਬਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ), (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ) ਝੱਖੜ (ਝੁੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ), ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
