ਏਕੋ ਅਮਰੁ ਏਕਾ ਪਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
ayko amar aykaa patisaahee jug jug sir kaar banaa-ee hay. ||1||
Throughout the entire universe there is only one reign and one command of God; age after age God has been assigning everyone to their tasks. ||1||
ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਰਾਜ ਹੈ। ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕਾਰ ਮੁਕਰਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
so jan nirmal jin aap pachhaataa.
That human being is immaculate, who has understood himself (his spiritual life).
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ l
ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
aapay aa-ay mili-aa sukh-daata.
God, the giver of peace, Himself manifests in him.
ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
rasnaa sabad ratee gun gaavai dar saachai pat paa-ee hay. ||2||
Imbued with the divine word, his tongue sings the praises of God and he receives honor in God’s presence. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਾਮਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
gurmukh naam milai vadi-aa-ee.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, earns glory by meditating on God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾਮਣਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
manmukh nindak pat gavaa-ee.
The self-willed slanderer loses his honor.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਆਪਣੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
naam ratay param hans bairaagee nij ghar taarhee laa-ee hay. ||3||
Those imbued with the love of God’s Name are like sublime swans; detached from worldly love, they remain focused on God within their inner-self. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਹਨ, ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
sabad marai so-ee jan pooraa.
One who eradicates his ego through the Guru’s divine word, is a perfect person,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਤੋ ਮਰ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਸੂਰਾ ॥
satgur aakh sunaa-ay sooraa.
this is what the brave true Guru proclaims.
(ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸੂਰਮੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਖ ਕੇ (ਹਰੇਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
kaa-i-aa andar amrit sar saachaa man peevai bhaa-ay subhaa-ee hay. ||4||
Deep within the body is the pool of ambrosial nectar of God’s Name; the mind drinks it with great love and joy. ||4||
ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਦਾ ਚਸ਼ਮਾ ਹੈ ,ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮਨ ਬੜੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਮਝਾਏ ॥
parh pandit avraa samjhaa-ay.
A Pandit reads religious books and instructs others,
ਪੰਡਿਤ (ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਘਰ ਜਲਤੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
ghar jaltay kee khabar na paa-ay.
but he does not realize that his own mind is burning in the fire of worldly desires.
ਪਰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-) ਘਰ ਸੜ ਰਹੇ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
bin satgur sayvay naam na paa-ee-ai parh thaakay saaNt na aa-ee hay. ||5||
Naam is not realized without following the true Guru’s teachings; people exhausted themselves reading books but inner peace did not well-up. ||5||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥
ਇਕਿ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
ik bhasam lagaa-ay fireh bhaykh-Dhaaree.
There are many people who smear their bodies with ashes, and wander around in religious disguises,
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਾਣਾ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਪਿੰਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਸੁਆਹ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨਿ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
bin sabdai ha-umai kin maaree.
but without reflecting on the Guru’s word, who has ever subdued egotism?
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ?
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੇਖਿ ਭਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
an-din jalat raheh din raatee bharam bhaykh bharmaa-ee hay. ||6||
They always keep burning in the fire of worldly desires, and remain lost in the illusion and their religious costumes. ||6||
ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਖ ਦੇ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਇਕਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਮਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
ik garih kutamb meh sadaa udaasee.
There are many people, even in the midst of their household and family are always detached from the worldly allurements.
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਹਨ,
ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥
sabad mu-ay har naam nivaasee.
By reflecting on the Guru’s divine word, they live as if they are dead to the love for materialism and they always remain immersed in God’s Name.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
an-din sadaa raheh rang raatay bhai bhaa-ay bhagat chit laa-ee hay. ||7||
Always and forever, they remain imbued with God’s love; with revered fear of God, they keep their mind focussed on His devotional worship. ||7||
ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅਦਬ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ ॥
manmukh nindaa kar kar vigutaa.
A self-willed person keeps ruining himself by repeatedly slandering others,
ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਉਕੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੁਤਾ ॥
antar lobh bha-ukai jis kutaa.
he is so overwhelmed by greed as if a dog always keeps barking within him.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੁੱਤਾ (ਨਿੱਤ) ਭੌਂਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
jamkaal tis kaday na chhodai ant ga-i-aa pachhutaa-ee hay. ||8||
The fear of death never leaves him and in the end he leaves from here regretting. ||8||
ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਝੂਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
sachai sabad sachee pat ho-ee.
True honor is received only through the divine word of God’s praises,
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
bin naavai mukat na paavai ko-ee.
and nobody can obtain liberation from vices without meditating on God’s Name.
ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਲੋਭ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਐਸੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
bin satgur ko naa-o na paa-ay parabh aisee banat banaa-ee hay. ||9||
God has designed such a tradition that Naam cannot be realized without following the true Guru’s teachings. ||9||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੯॥
ਇਕਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
ik siDh saaDhik bahut veechaaree.
There are many adepts, seekers and great thinkers.
ਕਈ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ (ਅਖਵਾਂਦੇ) ਹਨ, ਕਈ (ਅਜੇ) ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਕਈ ਚਰਚਾ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
ik ahinis naam ratay nirankaaree.
There are many who always remain focused on God’s Name.
ਕਈ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
jis no aap milaa-ay so boojhai bhagat bhaa-ay bha-o jaa-ee hay. ||10||
The one whom God unites with Himself, understands the righteous way of life; his fear of all kind goes away through loving devotional worship of God. ||10||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ॥
isnaan daan karahi nahee boojheh.
Many people bathe at holy places and give to charities, but do not understand the righteous way of living.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਇਕਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝਹਿ ॥
ik manoo-aa maar manai si-o loojheh.
There are many who struggle with their mind and ultimately control it.
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੰਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
saachai sabad ratay ik rangee saachai sabad milaa-ee hay. ||11||
Those who are imbued with the love of God, remain focused on the divine word of God’s praises; they merge with God through the Guru’s divine word. ||11||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੧॥
ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
aapay sirjay day vadi-aa-ee.
God Himself creates and bestows glorious greatness on the living beings.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਆਪੇ ਭਾਣੈ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
aapay bhaanai day-ay milaa-ee.
By His will, God unites human beings with Himself.
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਇਉ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
aapay nadar karay man vasi-aa mayrai parabh i-o furmaa-ee hay. ||12||
God Himself bestows gracious glance and manifests in the mind of a person; this is what God has proclaimed. ||12||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ॥
satgur sayveh say jan saachay.
Those who follow the true Guru’s teachings, become spiritually stable.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਮੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਟਿਕਵੇਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥
manmukh sayv na jaanan kaachay.
The self-willed people do not know how to follow the Guru’s teachings and remain spiritually vulnerable.
ਪਰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਮੱਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ, ਉਹ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
aapay kartaa kar kar vaykhai ji-o bhaavai ti-o laa-ee hay. ||13||
The Creator Himself creates and takes care of all and as it pleases Him, He attaches them to different tasks. ||13||
ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਰਚ ਕੇ, ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਰੇ ਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
jug jug saachaa ayko daataa.
Throughout all ages there has always been only one eternal benefactor.
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਯੁੱਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੇਵਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
poorai bhaag gur sabad pachhaataa.
With perfect destiny one realizes God through the Guru’s divine word.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
sabad milay say vichhurhay naahee nadree sahj milaa-ee hay. ||14||
Those who get united with God through the Guru’s word, do not get separated from Him; with His gracious glance, God keeps them united with Him. ||14||
ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਵਿਛੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ। ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਹਰੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai maa-i-aa mail kamaa-i-aa.
Those who gather the dirt of vices because of the ego of their worldly wealth;
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
mar mar jameh doojaa bhaa-i-aa.
due to the love of duality (things other than God), they remain in the cycle of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਾਸਾ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
bin satgur sayvay mukat na ho-ee man daykhhu liv laa-ee hay. ||15||
You may reflect in your mind and see for yourself that liberation from the vices is not achieved without following the true Guru’s teachings. ||15||
ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧੫॥
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so-ee karsee.
Whatever pleases God, He would do that.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
