ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ) ਦੇ ਮੁਖਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਵਯੇ।
ਬਲਿਓ ਚਰਾਗੁ ਅੰਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਸਭ ਕਲਿ ਉਧਰੀ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਧਰਮ ॥
bali-o charaag anDh-yaar meh sabh kal uDhree ik naam Dharam.
(Guru Nanak), the lamp of divine knowledge has been lit in spiritual darkness, and the entire world is being saved through his teachings of faith in Naam.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥
kaam kroDh mad matsar tarisnaa binas jaahi har naam uchaaree.
Lust, anger, egotism, jealousy and worldly desire vanish by lovingly remembering God’s Name.
ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਈਰਖਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਰੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਲੇ ਤਰਿਓ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ॥
sarisat sagal uDhree naam lay tari-o nirantar.
Guru Nanak has saved himself by always lovingly remembering God’s Name, and has also saved the entire universe (by imparting his teachings).
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਆਪ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਤਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
naam avkhaDh naam aaDhaar ar naam samaaDh sukh sadaa naam neesaan sohai.
God’s Name is the panacea, His Name is the support of all, and God’s Name is the bliss of deep trance; the flag of God’s Name always looks beautiful.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੀ) ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ (ਸਭ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ; ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਝੰਡਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਭ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਸਚਉ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਲੵ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰ ਧੵਾਇਅਉ ॥
mastak neesaan sacha-o karam kal-y jorh kar Dhayaa-i-a-o.
On His forehead is the true insignia of the Lord’s Mercy; with his palms pressed together, KALL meditates on Him. On his head is the sign of (God’s) true grace. Joining his hands, (poet) Kall has meditated on (Guru Amar Das) and says that,
(ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸੱਚੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਕਲ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਕਵੀ! ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਭੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹਰਿ ਅਟਲੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਨੇਜਾ ਗਡਿਓ ॥
bhai nirbha-o har atal man sabad gur nayjaa gadi-o.
Guru Amardas is fearless due to God’s revered fear and by virtues of the true Guru’s word, he has enshrined the eternal God in his mind as if he has planted a spear in the battle against vices;
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭਉ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ) ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਨੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ-ਇਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਨੋ), ਨੇਜਾ ਗੱਡਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ;
ਅਜੋਨੀਉ ਭਲੵੁ ਅਮਲੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
ajonee-o bhalyu amal satgur sang nivaas.
Guru Ramdas is free from reincarnations,
he is virtuous and immaculate and he abides with the true Guru Amardas.
ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜਨਮ (ਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਭਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੱਧ-ਆਤਮਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾਰਣ ਤਰਣ ਸਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਬਦ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੇਰੇ ॥
taaran taran samrath kalijug sunat samaaDh sabad jis kayray.
listening to whose word, we become absorbed in meditation; that Guru is like a ship in the age of kalyug, capable of ferrying us across the world-ocean of vices.
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਾਗਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ।
ਅਬ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਦਾਸ ਭਾਟ ਕੀ ਲਾਜ ॥
ab raakho daas bhaat kee laaj.
O’ Guru Ji, now please save the honor of your devotee, bard Nallh,
