ਆਸਾ ਇਤੀ ਆਸ ਕਿ ਆਸ ਪੁਰਾਈਐ ॥
aasaa itee aas ke aas puraa-ee-ai.
I am constantly yearning for realizing God, and I pray that it may get fulfilled,
(ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਇਤਨੀ ਕੁ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੀ) ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ਤ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
satgur bha-ay da-i-aal ta pooraa paa-ee-ai.
but the perfectly virtuous God is realized only when the Guru bestows mercy.
ਪਰ ਸਰਬ-ਗੁਣ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਦੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
mai tan avgan bahut ke avgan chhaa-i-aa.
My body is full of so many faults that it is entirely over-powered by vices,
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਇਤਨੇ) ਵਧੀਕ ਔਗੁਣ ਹਨ ਕਿ (ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਾ) ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਢਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ਤ ਮਨੁ ਠਹਰਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
harihaaN satgur bha-ay da-i-aal ta man thehraa-i-aa. ||5||
O’ my friend, but when the Guru bestows mercy, only then my mind becomes steady, against the vices. ||5||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ) ਡੋਲਣੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak bay-ant bay-ant Dhi-aa-i-aa.
O’ Nanak, say, one who remembered the infinite God with adoration,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਆਖ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ,
ਦੁਤਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥
dutar ih sansaar satguroo taraa-i-aa.
the Guru ferried him across this difficult world-ocean of vices,
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਿਟਿਆ ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਜਾਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
miti-aa aavaa ga-on jaaN pooraa paa-i-aa.
and his cycle of birth and death ended when he realized the perfect God.
ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ (ਭੀ) ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ।
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
harihaaN amrit har kaa naam satgur tay paa-i-aa. ||6||
O’ my friend, the ambrosial Name of God is received only through the Guru. ||6||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਮੇਰੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਪਦਮੁ ਆਗਨਿ ਸੁਖ ਬਾਸਨਾ ॥
mayrai haath padam aagan sukh baasnaa.
Now I see the auspicious sign of lotus flower in my hand indicating great fortune, and the fragrance of bliss is ever present in my heart.
(ਹੁਣ) ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ (ਦੀ ਰੇਖਾ ਬਣ ਪਈ) ਹੈ (ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ) ਮੇਰੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੇ) ਵਿਹੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ (ਖਿਲਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ) ਹੈ।
ਸਖੀ ਮੋਰੈ ਕੰਠਿ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਸਨਾ ॥
sakhee morai kanth ratann paykh dukh naasnaa.
O’ my friend, I feel as if a precious jewel-like Naam is placed around my neck, seeing which all misery has departed.
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਮੇਰੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਸਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਸਗਲ ਸੁਖ ਰਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ॥
baasa-o sang gupaal sagal sukh raas har.
I am residing in the company of God, who is the sustainer of the universe, and is the source of all the pleasures.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ (ਸਦਾ) ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਬਸਹਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਿ ॥੭॥
harihaaN riDh siDh nav niDh baseh jis sadaa kar. ||7||
O’ my friend, all the spiritual powers and the nine treasures of wealth are under God’s control. ||7||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਨੌਂ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰਾਵਣਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਤਾ ਲਾਜੀਅਹਿ ॥
par tari-a raavan jaahi say-ee taa laajee-ah.
Those men who go out to enjoy other women, are subjected to utmost shame in God’s presence,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੋਗਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਸ਼ਰਮਸਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਕਤ ਢਾਕੀਅਹਿ ॥
nitparat hireh par darab chhidar kat dhaakee-ah.
and where can those persons hide their sins, who daily steal others’ wealth?
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਚੁਰਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਹ) ਕੁਕਰਮ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਲੁਕੇ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ?
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਗਲ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰਈ ॥
har gun ramat pavitar sagal kul taar-ee.
But if a person sings God’s praises, he becomes immaculate, and all his generations are also ferried across the worldly ocean because of him.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਸੁਨਤੇ ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਈ ॥੮॥
harihaaN suntay bha-ay puneet paarbarahm beechaara-ee. ||8||
O’ friend, all those who listen and reflect on the divine words of the supreme God’s praises, their life becomes immaculate. ||8||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! (ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
ਊਪਰਿ ਬਨੈ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਤਲੈ ਧਰ ਸੋਹਤੀ ॥
oopar banai akaas talai Dhar sohtee.
The sky is shining with the stars above me, and below me is the earth which appears beautiful with green grass,
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਉਤਾਂਹ (ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਨਾਲ) ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਫਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇਠ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ (ਹਰਿਆਵਲ ਆਦਿਕ ਨਾਲ) ਧਰਤੀ ਸਜ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਚਮਕੈ ਬੀਜੁਲਿ ਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਜੋਹਤੀ ॥
dah dis chamkai beejul mukh ka-o johtee.
and the lightning is flashing in all of the ten directions, which is illuminating my face.
ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਚਮਕ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਮੂੰਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਾਰੇ ਮਾਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਖੋਜਤ ਫਿਰਉ ਬਿਦੇਸਿ ਪੀਉ ਕਤ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
khojat fira-o bidays pee-o kat paa-ee-ai.
But I am searching around in other places, wondering when shall I be able to find my Master-God.
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ (ਜੰਗਲ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਚ) ਢੂੰਢਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਤੇ ਲੱਭ ਪਏ।
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਭਾਗੁ ਤ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੯॥
harihaaN jay mastak hovai bhaag ta daras samaa-ee-ai. ||9||
O’ my friend, I feel if I am so blessed with good fortune upon my forehead, only then I can be absorbed in visualizing Him. ||9||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਜੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ( ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਡਿਠੇ ਸਭੇ ਥਾਵ ਨਹੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਹਿਆ ॥
dithay sabhay thaav nahee tuDh jayhi-aa.
O’ the city of God’s devotees, I have seen all holy places, but not a single one is like you.
(ਹੇ ਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਰ!) ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਥਾਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ) ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਦਿੱਸਿਆ)।
ਬਧੋਹੁ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਤਾਂ ਤੂ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥
baDhohu purakh biDhaatai taaN too sohi-aa.
You (the holy congregation) look so beautiful because the Creator-God has Himself established you.
(ਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਨੀਂਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਵਸਦੀ ਸਘਨ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਨੂਪ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਪੁਰ ॥
vasdee saghan apaar anoop raamdaas pur.
O’ the city of God’s devotees, you have an unparalleled beauty and your population is dense and prosperous.
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਰ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਵੱਸੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੰਘਣੀ ਹੈ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਬੇ-ਮਿਸਾਲ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਸਮਲ ਜਾਹਿ ਨਾਇਐ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਸਰ ॥੧੦॥
harihaaN naanak kasmal jaahi naa-i-ai raamdaas sar. ||10||
O’ Nanak, say, O my friend, all the sinful thoughts of a person vanish by bathing the mind in the holy pool (congregation) of God’s devotees. ||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ, ਰਾਮ ਦਾਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ! (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੦॥
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਚਿਤ ਸੁਚਿਤ ਸੁ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਚਾਹੀਐ ॥
chaatrik chit suchit so saajan chaahee-ai.
Just like a rain bird, we should consciously long to realize our beloved God.
ਪਪੀਹੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਸੁਚੇਤ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਚਾਇਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਉ ਆਹੀਐ ॥
jis sang laagay paraan tisai ka-o aahee-ai.
We should always long to realize Him, on whose affection our life-breaths are focused.
ਜਿਸ ਸੱਜਣ ਨਾਲ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ) ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਫਿਰਤ ਉਦਾਸ ਬੂੰਦ ਜਲ ਕਾਰਣੇ ॥
ban ban firat udaas boond jal kaarnay.
Just as for the sake of one raindrop, a rain bird wanders from forest to forest, not caring for anything else;
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਵਰਖਾ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਜੰਗਲ (ਢੂੰਡਦਾ) ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੇ ॥੧੧॥
harihaaN ti-o har jan maaNgai naam naanak balihaarnay. ||11||
similarly, O’ Nanak, that God’s devotee who seeks His Name, I am dedicated to him. ||11||
ਓਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ (ਪਪੀਹੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧੧॥
ਮਿਤ ਕਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਨੂਪੁ ਮਰੰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੀਐ ॥
mit kaa chit anoop maramm na jaanee-ai.
The heart of my friend-God is of unparalleled beauty, its mystery cannot be understood.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੱਤਿ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗਾਹਕ ਗੁਨੀ ਅਪਾਰ ਸੁ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਨੀਐ ॥
gaahak gunee apaar so tat pachhaanee-ai.
However we can recognize that mystery through the saints who are the seekers of the virtues of the infinite God.
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਾਹਕ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਭੇਤ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਿਤਹਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਸਮਾਇ ਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਘਨਾ ॥
chiteh chit samaa-ay ta hovai rang ghanaa.
If one’s heart is immersed in God’s love, then immense spiritual bliss wells up within him.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਚਿੱਤ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਬਹੁਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਚੰਚਲ ਚੋਰਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਤ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਧਨਾ ॥੧੨॥
harihaaN chanchal choreh maar ta paavahi sach Dhanaa. ||12||
Thus O’ my friend, if you conquer the thieves (vices) of your mercurial mind’s virtues, then you would receive the true wealth of Naam. ||12||
ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਜਦ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੁਲਬੁਨੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਤਸਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੧੨॥
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਊਭੀ ਭਈ ਗਹਿਓ ਕੀ ਨ ਅੰਚਲਾ ॥
supnai oobhee bha-ee gahi-o kee na anchlaa.
Seeing my Beloved God in the dream, I suddenly stood up, but I could not reach Him,
ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਉੱਠ ਖਲੋਤੀ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਨਾਹ ਫੜ ਸਕੀ,
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਰਾਜਿਤ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਬੰਚਲਾ ॥

perhaps seeing that handsome master-God, my mind was completely mesmerized.
ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਉਸ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਦਗ-ਦਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰਾ) ਮਨ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਹੀ ਨਾਹ ਰਹੀ)।
ਖੋਜਉ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਤ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
khoja-o taa kay charan kahhu kat paa-ee-ai.
Now I am searching His footprints: O’ my friends, tell me how can He be realized?
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਦਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਰਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਦਸੋ, ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲੇ?
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਸੋਈ ਜਤੰਨੁ ਬਤਾਇ ਸਖੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧੩॥
harihaaN so-ee jatann bataa-ay sakhee pari-o paa-ee-ai. ||13||
O’ my friend, tell me that effort by which the beloved God is realized. ||13||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਜਤਨ ਦੱਸ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ॥੧੩॥
ਨੈਣ ਨ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਿ ਨੈਣ ਬਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥
nain na daykheh saaDh se nain bihaali-aa.
The eyes, which do not see the sight of the holy company, always remain miserable.
ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਸਤ-ਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ, ਉਹ ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ) ਬੇ-ਹਾਲ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨਹੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਕਰਨ ਮੁੰਦਿ ਘਾਲਿਆ ॥
karan na sunhee naad karan mund ghaali-aa.
The ears, which do not hear the praises of God, consider them deaf as if they have been sealed shut (from listening to the divine melody).
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕੰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ, ਉਹ ਕੰਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬੰਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪੈ ਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਟੀਐ ॥
rasnaa japai na naam til til kar katee-ai.
The tongue that does not recite God’s Name, is becoming useless as if it is being cut bit by bit.
ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਭ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦੀ, ਉਹ ਜੀਭ ( ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਕੈਂਚੀ ਨਾਲ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਜਬ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਰਾਇ ਦਿਨੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਘਟੀਐ ॥੧੪॥
harihaaN jab bisrai gobid raa-ay dino din ghatee-ai. ||14||
O’ my friend, when we forsake the Master-God, then we are spiritually deteriorating day by day. ||14||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਦੋਂ ਦਿਨੋ ਦਿਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੧੪॥
ਪੰਕਜ ਫਾਥੇ ਪੰਕ ਮਹਾ ਮਦ ਗੁੰਫਿਆ ॥
pankaj faathay pank mahaa mad guNfi-aa.
When a bumblebee is captivated by the intoxicating fragrance of a lotus flower, its wings get caught in the petals of the lotus flower,
(ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ) ਤੇਜ਼ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਭੌਰੇ ਦੇ) ਖੰਭ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ (ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਖੜੀਆਂ) ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਬਿਸਰਤੇ ਸੁੰਫਿਆ ॥
ang sang urjhaa-ay bisratay suNfi-aa.
and getting entangled in those petals, the bee forgets its joyful flights from one flower to the other; similarly people caught in the love for Maya forget God.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਖੜੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਲਝ ਕੇ (ਭੌਰੇ ਨੂੰ) ਉਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਲਾਣੀਆਂ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
