ਹੀਣੌ ਨੀਚੁ ਬੁਰੌ ਬੁਰਿਆਰੁ ॥
heenou neech burou buri-aar.
he lacks spiritual life, wretched and vilest of the vile.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹੈ। ਨੀਵੇਂ ਪਾਸੇ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਮੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨੀਧਨ ਕੌ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
neeDhan kou Dhan naam pi-aar.
Love for God’s Name is the true wealth for the destitutes,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਕੰਗਾਲਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੈ,
ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
ih Dhan saar hor bikhi-aa chhaar. ||4||
this wealth is the most sublime and all other worldly wealth is like ashes. ||4||
ਇਹੀ ਧਨ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਧਨ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਆਹ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਜੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥
ustat nindaa sabad veechaar. jo dayvai tis ka-o jaikaar.
We should salute that (God) who assigns praise, slander, or the reflection on Guru’s word to human beings.
ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ, ਨਿੰਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਤੂ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
too bakhsahi jaat pat ho-ay.
O’ God, whom You bless with the gift of singing Your praises, attains higher social status and honor.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਦੀ,, ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੨॥
naanak kahai kahaavai so-ay. ||5||12||
Nanak can utter the word of God’s praises only if God Himself causes him to speak. ||5||12||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਖਵਾਏ ॥੫॥੧੨॥

Raag Prabhati,First Guru:
ਖਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਪੈਧੈ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਹਾਣਿ ॥
khaa-i-aa mail vaDhaa-i-aa paiDhai ghar kee haan.
By getting addicted to eating fancy food and fancy clothes, one increases in his mind the filth of vices leading to spiritual deterioration.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ ਅਤੇ (ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ) ਪਹਿਨਣ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਘਾਟ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਕਿ ਬਕਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
bak bak vaad chalaa-i-aa bin naavai bikh jaan. ||1||
By prattling too much, one creates strife with others: O’ mortal, understand that every thing without remembering God’s Name is poison for spiritual life. ||1||
ਬੜ ਬੜ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਬੰਦਾ ਬਖੇੜੇ ਖੜੇ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈ, ਕਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਨਿਰੀਪੁਰੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬਾਬਾ ਐਸਾ ਬਿਖਮ ਜਾਲਿ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਸਿਆ ॥
baabaa aisaa bikham jaal man vaasi-aa.
O’ brother, the mind is trapped in the treacherous web of stormy waves of Maya in the worldly ocean;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਠਿੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ) ਔਖੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਫਸਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਬਲੁ ਝਾਗਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bibal jhaag sahj pargaasi-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but (by remembering God), when it crosses these stormy waves, a state of poise manifests in the mind and it gets spiritually enlightened. ||1||Pause||
ਝਗੂਲੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਔਖਿਆਈ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨ ਟਿਕਵੀਂ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਅਪੜ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
bikh khaanaa bikh bolnaa bikh kee kaar kamaa-ay.
If one doesn’t remember God, then whatever he eats, wears, does and earns is all poison for the spiritual life.
(ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ) ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥
jam dar baaDhay maaree-ah chhootas saachai naa-ay. ||2||
Such people remain in the fear of death and endure mental torture, they are freed from it only by remembering God with adoration. ||2||
(ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ) ਜਮ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਬੱਧੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕੇਵਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਵ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਵ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਕੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
jiv aa-i-aa tiv jaa-isee kee-aa likh lai jaa-ay.
One departs from the world as empty handed as one had come, but carries with him the account of his deeds inscribed on his mind.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵ ਨੰਗਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਇਥੋਂ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
manmukh mool gavaa-i-aa dargeh milai sajaa-ay. ||3||
The self-willed person even loses his capital of previous good deeds and is awarded punishment in God’s presence. ||3||
ਮਨਮਤੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਸਲ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਭੀ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਜਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਗੁ ਖੋਟੌ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੌ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀਂ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
jag khotou sach nirmalou gur sabdeeN veechaar.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word, one comes to know that the world is polluted with the dirt of vices and the eternal God is immaculate.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ (ਦਾ ਮੋਹ) ਖੋਟਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ l
ਤੇ ਨਰ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
tay nar virlay jaanee-ahi jin antar gi-aan muraar. ||4||
Those who have knowledge about God, are known to be very rare. ||4||
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ਨੀਝਰੁ ਝਰੈ ਅਮਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਰੂਪ ॥
ajar jarai neejhar jharai amar anand saroop.
One who bears the unbearable torture of the love for Maya, continuous and everlasting bliss of God’s love starts trickling in his mind.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨਾਹ ਸਹਾਰੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੱਟ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਚਸ਼ਮਾ ਚੱਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਲ ਕੌ ਮੀਨੁ ਸੈ ਥੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੫॥੧੩॥
naanak jal kou meen sai thay bhaavai raakho pareet. ||5||13||
O’ God, just as a fish yearns for water, similarly Nanak longs for Your love; if it pleases You, keep Your love enshrined in my heart. ||5||13||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛੀ ਜਲ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂਘਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ , ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੫॥੧੩॥

ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਹਰਖ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
geet naad harakh chaturaa-ee.
The worldly songs, tunes, pleasures and cleverness,
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣੇ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ,
ਰਹਸ ਰੰਗ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ਕਾਈ ॥
rahas rang furmaa-is kaa-ee.
merry making, issuing commands,
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਚਾਉ ਮਲ੍ਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਹਕੂਮਤਾਂ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ-
ਪੈਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਣੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
painHan khaanaa cheet na paa-ee.
fine foods and fancy clothes, none of these are pleasing to my mind.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਖਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਹਿਨਣੇ- ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਉਂਦੇ।
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੧॥
saach sahj sukh naam vasaa-ee. ||1||
Because I enshrine in my heart, the everlasting spiritual poise and inner peace through lovingly remembering God’s Name. ||1||
ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ॥੧॥
ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
ki-aa jaanaaN ki-aa karai karaavai.
What do I know about what God does and what He gets done?
ਮੈਂ ਕੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੀ ਰਕਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਤਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam binaa tan kichh na sukhaavai. ||1||
rahaa-o. Except God’s Name, nothing seems pleasing to me. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋਗ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਆਨੰਦਾ ॥
jog binod savaad aanandaa.
(I am enjoying) the taste and bliss of the wonders of union with God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ) ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਦੇ ਕੌਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਤਿ ਸਤ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ॥
mat sat bhaa-ay bhagat gobindaa.
Because of my true love for God, His devotional worship is there in my mind.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਰ ਨਿਜ ਸੰਦਾ ॥
keerat karam kaar nij sandaa.
Singing God’s praises has become my daily deed and pursuit.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਤੌ ਰਾਜ ਰਵਿੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
antar ravtou raaj ravindaa. ||2||
God who provides light to the world is dwelling within me. ||2||
(ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਮ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
pari-o pari-o pareet paraym ur Dhaaree.
I always utter the Name of my beloved God and have lovingly enshrined His love within my heart.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਤ ਪੁਕਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥੁ ਪੀਉ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥
deenaa naath pee-o banvaaree.
The Master-God of the meek is the master of the world
ਉਹ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਥ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਬ੍ਰਤਕਾਰੀ ॥
an-din naam daan baratkaaree.
Lovingly remembering God’s Name at all times is my giving of charity and observing fasts.
ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਾਨ-ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤ ਰਖਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਤਰੰਗ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
taripat tarang tat beechaaree. ||3||
By reflecting on the essence of reality (God’s virtues) I have become satiated from the love for the waves of worldly desires. ||3||
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮੈਂ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ; ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਅਕਥੌ ਕਥਉ ਕਿਆ ਮੈ ਜੋਰੁ ॥
akthou katha-o ki-aa mai jor.
O’ God, what power do I have to describe Your indescribable praises?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਕੀਹ ਤਾਕਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਕਥ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਾਂ?
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਕਰਾਇਹਿ ਮੋਰ ॥
bhagat karee karaa-ihi mor.
I can perform Your devotional worship only when You inspire me to do so.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੈ ਮੋਰ ॥
antar vasai chookai mai mor.
When You manifest within me, my sense of mine-ness and egotism is finished.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ‘ਮੈਂ ਮੇਰੀ’ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।
ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰੁ ॥੪॥
kis sayvee doojaa nahee hor. ||4||
(O’ God, beside You), whose devotional worship should I perform, because there is none other like You? ||4||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂ ? ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
gur kaa sabad mahaa ras meethaa.
The Guru’s divine word is utterly sweet and sublime.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਿਠੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ।
ਐਸਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥
aisaa amrit antar deethaa.
Through such ambrosial nectar-like word of the Guru I have experienced God within me.
ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jin chaakhi-aa pooraa pad ho-ay.
One who has tasted the elixir of Guru’s divine word, has attained the perfect spiritual state.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪਿਓ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੪॥
naanak Dharaapi-o tan sukh ho-ay. ||5||14||
O’ Nanak, he gets satiated from worldly desires and inner peace prevails within him. ||5||14||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੧੪॥

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਰਾਂਗਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
antar daykh sabad man maani-aa avar na raaNganhaaraa.
By visualizing God in my heart through the Guru’s word, my mind is convinced that except for Him there is none else who can imbue us with His love.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਤੀਜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ l
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜੀਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਸਰਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
ahinis jee-aa daykh samaalay tis hee kee sarkaaraa. ||1||
God always watches over and cares for His beings and the entire universe functions under His command. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਂਗਿ ਘਣੌ ਅਤਿ ਰੂੜੌ ॥
mayraa parabh raaNg ghanou at roorhou.
My God is imbued with deep love, He is very handsome,
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੜੇ ਗੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਬੜਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ,
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨਮੋਹਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਰਸ ਲਾਲ ਸਗੂੜੌ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen da-i-aal pareetam manmohan at ras laal sagoorhou. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He is merciful to the meek, beloved captivator of hearts, extremely sweet, and is immensely full of love. ||1||Pause||
ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਗੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਊਪਰਿ ਕੂਪੁ ਗਗਨ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
oopar koop gagan panihaaree amrit peevanhaaraa.
God, the source of ambrosial nectar of Naam, is the highest of the high, only a person with supreme spiritual intellect can partake this nectar.
ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ; ਉੱਚੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
jis kee rachnaa so biDh jaanai gurmukh gi-aan veechaaraa. ||2||
The Guru’s follower has reflected on this divine wisdom that He who has created this creation alone knows the way to take care of it. ||2||
ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਿਲਾਣ ਦਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ (ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੈ। (ਉਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
