ਏਕ ਸਮੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗਹਿ ਬਾਂਧੈ ਤਉ ਫੁਨਿ ਮੋ ਪੈ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
ayk samai mo ka-o geh baaNDhai ta-o fun mo pai jabaab na ho-ay. ||1||
If at any time My devotee grabs and binds Me (in his love), then I cannot object to it. ||1||
ਜੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਇਕ ਵਾਰੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਉਜ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਮੈ ਗੁਨ ਬੰਧ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ॥
mai gun banDh sagal kee jeevan mayree jeevan mayray daas.
I am bound by the virtues of my devotees; I am the (support of the) life of all beings, but My devotees are My support.
ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ; ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ (ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ) ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ (ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ) ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਐਸੀ ਤੈਸੋ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥੨॥੩॥
naamdayv jaa kay jee-a aisee taiso taa kai paraym pargaas. ||2||3||
O’ Namdev, as is the love for Me (in the mind of a devotee), so is the enlightenment of My love in his heart. ||2||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ! ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਭੀ ਉਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੈ ਨਰ ਕਿਆ ਪੁਰਾਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
tai nar ki-aa puraan sun keenaa.
O’ mortal, what have you really gained by listening to the holy Puranas?
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ ! ਪੁਰਾਣ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਕੀ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ?
ਅਨਪਾਵਨੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਉਪਜੀ ਭੂਖੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਨ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anpaavnee bhagat nahee upjee bhookhai daan na deenaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Neither an everlasting devotional worship has welled up in you, nor you have given charity to a hungry person. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਹ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਭਗਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੁਖੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦਿਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਲੋਭੁ ਨ ਛੂਟਿਓ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
kaam na bisri-o kroDh na bisri-o lobh na chhooti-o dayvaa.
O’ brother, neither your lust, nor anger, nor greed has left you.
ਹੇ ਦੇਵ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਾਮ ਗਿਆ, ਨਾਹ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਗਿਆ, ਨਾਹ ਲੋਭ ਮੁੱਕਾ,
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਨਿਫਲ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੧॥
par nindaa mukh tay nahee chhootee nifal bha-ee sabh sayvaa. ||1||
Even your tongue has not stopped slandering others, so all your hard work (of reading Puranas) has gone to waste. ||1||
ਨਾਹ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ (ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਆਦਤ) ਹੀ ਗਈ, (ਪੁਰਾਣ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਹੀ ਐਵੇਂ ਗਈ ॥੧॥
ਬਾਟ ਪਾਰਿ ਘਰੁ ਮੂਸਿ ਬਿਰਾਨੋ ਪੇਟੁ ਭਰੈ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧੀ ॥
baat paar ghar moos biraano payt bharai apraaDhee.
Like a sinner, you kept feeding yourself by robbing people on the highway and breaking into other’s houses,
ਪਾਪੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਡਾਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਲੁੱਟ ਲੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਢਿੱਡ ਭਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ,
ਜਿਹਿ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਜਾਇ ਅਪਕੀਰਤਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਬਿਦਿਆ ਸਾਧੀ ॥੨॥
jihi parlok jaa-ay apkeerat so-ee abidi-aa saaDhee. ||2||
and kept committing the same foolish acts all your life which would bring dishonor in the world hearafter. ||2||
ਤੇ (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਉਹੀ ਮੂਰਖਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਅਗਲੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ (ਦਾ ਟਿੱਕਾ) ਹੀ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੨॥
ਹਿੰਸਾ ਤਉ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਜੀਅ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਲੀ ॥
hinsaa ta-o man tay nahee chhootee jee-a da-i-aa nahee paalee.
The cruelty of your mind has not left you and you have not dealt the living beings with compassion.
ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਰਦਇਤਾ ਨਾਹ ਗਈ, ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਮ ਦਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ l
ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਥਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਨ ਚਾਲੀ ॥੩॥੧॥੬॥
parmaanand saaDhsangat mil kathaa puneet na chaalee. ||3||1||6||
O’ Parmanand! you have also not recited the immaculate praises of God by joining the holy congregation. ||3||1||6||
ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ! ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ (ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਚਲਾਈਆਂ ॥੩॥੧॥੬॥
ਛਾਡਿ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਮੁਖਨ ਕੋ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
chhaad man har bimukhan ko sang.
O’ my mind, abandon the company of the non-believers in God.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਮੁਖ ਹਨ।

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਬਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਕ ॥
har kay sang basay har lok.
Those who lovingly remember God abide with God forever;
(ਹੇ ਸੂਰਦਾਸ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪਿਓ ਅਨਦ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਝੋਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan man arap sarbas sabh arpi-o anad sahj Dhun jhok. ||1|| rahaa-o.
dedicating their mind and body, they surrender themselves entirely to God and start rejoicing the bliss and poise of divine melody. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ (ਇਸ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਹੁਲਾਰੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਹਿਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ ਤਾਰ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਬਿਖਈ ਪਾਏ ਹੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਥੋਕ ॥
darsan paykh bha-ay nirbikha-ee paa-ay hai saglay thok.
Experiencing the blessed vision of God, the devotees become free of vices and feel as if they have attained all worldly things.
ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਆਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਾਜੁ ਨ ਕਛੂਐ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਦਨ ਅਲੋਕ ॥੧॥
aan basat si-o kaaj na kachhoo-ai sundar badan alok. ||1||
Upon visualizing God’s beauteous face, they don’t care for anything else. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਸਿਆਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤਜਿ ਆਨ ਜੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਜਿਉ ਕੁਸਟੀ ਤਨਿ ਜੋਕ ॥
si-aam sundar taj aan jo chaahat ji-o kustee tan jok.
Those who forsake the beauteous God and crave for anything else, are like a leech that only sucks the dirty blood from the body of a leper.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸਾਂਵਲੇ ਸੱਜਣ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਜੋਕ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੋਹੜੀ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ (ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਗੰਦ ਹੀ ਚੂਸਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਸੂਰਦਾਸ ਮਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਹਥਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਦੀਨੋ ਇਹੁ ਪਰਲੋਕ ॥੨॥੧॥੮॥
soordaas man parabh hath leeno deeno ih parlok. ||2||1||8||
O’ SoorDas, those people whose mind God has taken under His control, He has blessed them with the comforts of both this and the next world. ||2||1||8||
ਹੇ ਸੂਰਦਾਸ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੋਹੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੨॥੧॥੮॥

ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਕੌਣ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਹੈ?
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਸਭ ਫਨ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maat pitaa bhaa-ee sut banitaa hit laago sabh fan kaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
All this love for the mother, father, siblings, children, or spouse is nothing but an illusion. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਂ, ਪਿਉ, ਭਰਾ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਵਹੁਟੀ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਮੋਹ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਛਲ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੋਹ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ| ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਗੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਬਾਂਧਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ਧਨ ਕਾ ॥
aagay ka-o kichh tulhaa baaNDhahu ki-aa bharvaasaa Dhan kaa.
You cannot rely on worldly wealth, therefore build for yourself a raft of God’s Name to help you sail across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਇਤਬਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਦਾ) ਬੇੜਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੋ।
ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਸਾ ਇਸ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਕਾ ਇਤਨਕੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਠਨਕਾ ॥੧॥
kahaa bisaasaa is bhaaNday kaa itnak laagai thankaa. ||1||
What is the reliability of this body? It breaks down with the slightest stroke. ||1||
ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਕੀ ਭਰੋਸਾ ? , ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਕੁ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਠੋਕਰ ਲੱਗੇ (ਤਾਂ ਢਹਿ-ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਪੁੰਨ ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਧੂਰਿ ਬਾਂਛਹੁ ਸਭ ਜਨ ਕਾ ॥
sagal Dharam punn fal paavhu Dhoor baaNchhahu sabh jan kaa.
O’ saints, seek the dust from the feet (humble service) of God’s devotees, and you would be blessed with the merits of all the righteous deeds.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗੋ, (ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੁੰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਣਗੇ,
ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਉਡਨ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਬਨ ਕਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੯॥
kahai kabeer sunhu ray santahu ih man udan pankhayroo ban kaa. ||2||1||9||
Kabir says! listen, O’ saints, this mind is like a bird flying in the forest; to control it, bring it in the holy congregation. ||2||1||9||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ! ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ, ਇਹ ਮਨ ਇਉਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੰਗਲ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਉਡਾਰੂ ਪੰਛੀ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਉ) ॥੨॥੧॥੯॥
