ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

O’ merciful God, bless me with a higher spiritual state. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾਪ ਨ ਤਾਪ ਨ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤਿ ॥
jaap na taap na karam keet.
O’ God, I have not practised any meditation, penance or any good deeds,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਜਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਤਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ;
ਆਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਛੂ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
aavai naahee kachhoo reet.
I do not know how to perform any religious customs either,
ਕੋਈ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰੀਤ-ਰਸਮ ਕਰਨੀ ਭੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ,
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਉ ਆਸ ਏਕ ॥
man meh raakha-o aas ayk.
but O’ God, I cherish only one hope in my mind,
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਆਸ ਰੱਖੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਤਰਉ ਟੇਕ ॥੨॥
naam tayray kee tara-o tayk. ||2||
that leaning on the support of Your Name, I will swim across this worldly ocean of vices. ||2||
ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਮੈਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
sarab kalaa parabh tumH parbeen.
O’ God, You are proficient in all skills.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੁਨਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਨਿਪੁੰਨ ਹੈਂ,
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਲਹਿ ਮੀਨ ॥
ant na paavahi jaleh meen.
just as a fish doesn’t know the extent of water in which it is swimming, similarly we can not know Your limit.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ (ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ, ਤਿਵੇਂ(ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਊਚਹ ਤੇ ਊਚ ॥
agam agam oochah tay ooch.
O’ God, You are inaccessible, unapproachable, and higher than the highest.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੀ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਉੱਚਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹਮ ਥੋਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਬਹੁਤ ਮੂਚ ॥੩॥
ham thoray tum bahut mooch. ||3||
We are very lowly, and You are really great. ||3||
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਥੋੜ-ਵਿਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੇ ਗਨੀ ॥
jin too Dhi-aa-i-aa say ganee.
O’ God, those who have remembered You are spiritually rich.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ) ਧਨਾਢ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਧਨੀ ॥
jin too paa-i-aa say Dhanee.
Spiritually prosperous are those who have realized You.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਦੌਲਤਮੰਦ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸੁਖੀ ਸੇ ॥
jin too sayvi-aa sukhee say.
One who has performed devotional worship is living blissfully.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਸੁਖੀ ਹਨ|,
ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰੇ ॥੪॥੭॥
sant saran naanak paray. ||4||7||
O’ Nanak, they remain in the refuge of Your saints. ||4||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੭॥

Basant, Fifth Mehla:
ਤਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਕੀਆ ॥
tis too sayv jin too kee-aa.
O’ mortal, remember God with loving devotion who created You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ, ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਆ ॥
tis araaDh jin jee-o dee-aa.
Remember Him, who has blessed you with this soul.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਚਾਕਰੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਡਾਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
tis kaa chaakar hohi fir daan na laagai.
If you become His devotee, then you will not be subjected to any punishment (by the demon of death).
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਜਮ ਵਲੋਂ) ਡੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਪੋਤਦਾਰੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
tis kee kar potdaaree fir dookh na laagai. ||1||
If you become treasurer of God’s Name, then no sorrow would afflict you. ||1||
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਖਜਾਨਚੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੁ ਫਿਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪੇਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਏਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਹਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
ayvad bhaag hohi jis paraanee.
One who is blessed with good fortune,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਣ,
ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਇਹੁ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so paa-ay ih pad nirbaanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
attains a supreme spiritual state, where worldly desires have no effect. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੂਜੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥
doojee sayvaa jeevan birthaa.
By meditating anyone other than God, the life goes to waste,
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤ ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਰਥਾ ॥
kachhoo na ho-ee hai pooran arthaa.
and none of the life’s objectives are fulfilled.
ਤੇ, ਲੋੜ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਪੂਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਮਾਣਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਖਰੀ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ॥
maanas sayvaa kharee duhaylee.
The serving anyone other than the Guru is very difficult and does not yield any spiritual benefit,
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ॥੨॥
saaDh kee sayvaa sadaa suhaylee. ||2||
but there is everlasting bliss in following the Guru’s teachings. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
jay lorheh sadaa sukh bhaa-ee.
O’ my brother, if you are longing for the everlasting inner peace,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹੇ,
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਬਤਾਈ ॥
saaDhoo sangat gureh bataa-ee.
then follow the Guru’s teachings and join the company of saints.
ਤਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਊਹਾ ਜਪੀਐ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥
oohaa japee-ai kayval naam.
Over there (in the holy congregation) only God’s Name is lovingly remembered,
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮ ॥੩॥
saaDhoo sangat paargraam. ||3||
and we become able to cross over the worldly ocean of vices by remaining in the company of saints. ||3||
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਗਲ ਤਤ ਮਹਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sagal tat meh tat gi-aan.
Amongst all realities, the highest is the spiritual wisdom,
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਸਭ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਬ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
sarab Dhi-aan meh ayk Dhi-aan.
amongst all type of meditation, remembering God with adoration is the supreme.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਹੈ l
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਊਤਮ ਧੁਨਾ ॥
har keertan meh ootam Dhunaa.
The best amongst all the melodies is the singing of God’s praises.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਰਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨਾ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak gur mil gaa-ay gunaa. ||4||8||
O’ Nanak, follow the Guru’s teachings and keep singing God’s praises. ||4||8||
ਹੇਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ ॥੪॥੮॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Basant, Fifth Guru:
ਜਿਸੁ ਬੋਲਤ ਮੁਖੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jis bolat mukh pavit ho-ay.
O’ brother, always utter God’s Name, by uttering which one’s mouth is rendered immaculate.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਕਰ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
jis simrat nirmal hai so-ay.
by remembering whom one’s reputation becomes immaculate.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਬੇ-ਦਾਗ਼ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥
jis araaDhay jam kichh na kahai.
by meditating whom, the demon of death doesn’t bother at all,
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਰਾਧਦਿਆਂ ਜਮ-ਰਾਜ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਦਾ (ਡਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ),
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥
jis kee sayvaa sabh kichh lahai. ||1||
and by whose devotional worship one receives every desirable thing. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਹਰੇਕ (ਲੋੜੀਂਦੀ) ਚੀਜ਼ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ॥
raam raam bol raam raam.
O’ brother, always recite God’s Name,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਦਾ (ਉਸ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ti-aagahu man kay sagal kaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and renounce your mind’s cravings for worldly things. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਧਰਣਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ॥
jis kay Dhaaray Dharan akaas.
(O’ mortal, lovingly remember God), whose support is upholding the earth and the sky,
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ) ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਟਿਕਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
ghat ghat jis kaa hai pargaas.
whose light is pervading in each and every heart,
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨੂਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਹੋਇ ॥
jis simrat patit puneet ho-ay.
remembering whom, even a sinner is rendered immaculate,
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਭੀ) ਸੁੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥
ant kaal fir fir na ro-ay. ||2||
and because of which, one doesn’t cry in repentance in the end. ||2||
(ਤੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੋਂਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਊਤਮ ਧਰਮ ॥
sagal Dharam meh ootam Dharam.
Remembering God with adoration is the ultimate religious act amongst all,
ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਕੈ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰਮ ॥
karam kartoot kai oopar karam.
which is the righteous deed amongst all the religious rituals.
ਇਹੀ ਕਰਮ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਹੈ l
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵ ॥
jis ka-o chaaheh sur nar dayv.
That God, to realize whom all the angels and gods crave:
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ) ਦੈਵੀ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭੀ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕੀ ਲਗਹੁ ਸੇਵ ॥੩॥
sant sabhaa kee lagahu sayv. ||3||
to realize Him, engage yourself to the service of the holy congregation. ||3||
ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਗ ਜਾ ॥੩॥
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੀਆ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
aad purakh jis kee-aa daan.
Upon whom God, the Primal Being, has bestowed grace,
ਸਭ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
tis ka-o mili-aa har niDhaan.
he alone has received the treasure of God’s Name,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tis kee gat mit kahee na jaa-ay.
the spiritual state and worth of such a person cannot be described.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਬਤ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੪॥੯॥

Raag Basant, Fifth Guru:
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
man tan bheetar laagee pi-aas.
Within my mind and body is a longing for God’s Name.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਲਗਨ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥
gur da-i-aal pooree mayree aas.
The merciful Guru has fulfilled this desire of mine.
ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥
kilvikh kaatay saaDhsang.
All my sins have vanished by staying in the company of the Guru,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੧॥
naam japi-o har naam rang. ||1||
and being imbued with the God’s love, I am remembering His Name. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਬਨਾ ॥
gur parsaad basant banaa.
By the Guru’s grace, I am spiritually delighted, as if the season of spring has blossomed within me,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਬਸੰਤ (ਰੁੱਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਖਿੜਾਉ) ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan kamal hirdai ur Dhaaray sadaa sadaa har jas sunaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because I have enshrined God’s immaculate Name within my heart, and now I am always listening to His praises. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ। ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
