ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ॥
samrath su-aamee kaaran karan.
O’ the all-powerful God, the Creator of the universe,
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਰਚਣਹਾਰ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ!
ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣ ॥
mohi anaath parabh tayree saran.
I am without a master and seek Your refuge.
ਮੈਂ ਅਨਾਥ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਧਾਰਿ ॥
jee-a jant tayray aaDhaar.
O’ God, all creatures and beings depend upon Your support;
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੇਹਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
kar kirpaa parabh layhi nistaar. ||2||
bestow mercy and ferry them across the world ocean of vices. ||2||
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ ॥੨॥
ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸ ਦੇਵ ॥
bhav khandan dukh naas dayv.
God is the destroyer of the cycle of birth and death and suffering,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੋ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਕੱਟਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
sur nar mun jan taa kee sayv.
the angels and the sages perform His devotional worship.
ਦੈਵੀ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਧਰਣਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Dharan akaas jaa kee kalaa maahi.
God, by whose power are standing the earth and sky,
ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਜਿਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਭਿ ਜੰਤ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
tayraa dee-aa sabh jant khaahi. ||3||
all beings survive by eating what He bestows. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਅੰਨ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
antarjaamee parabh da-i-aal.
O’ the merciful and the omniscient God,
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
ਅਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥
apnay daas ka-o nadar nihaal.
bless Your devotee with Your gracious glance.
ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
kar kirpaa mohi dayh daan.
Bestow mercy and bless me with this benefaction,
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ,
ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
jap jeevai naanak tayro naam. ||4||10||
that Your devotee Nanak may remain spiritually rejuvenated by remembering Your Name with adoration. ||4||10||
ਕਿ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥

Raag Basant, Fifth Guru:
ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਭ ਗਏ ਪਾਪ ॥
raam rang sabh ga-ay paap.
All sins are washed off by being imbued with the love of God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਿਆਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
ਰਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਕਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥
raam japat kachh nahee santaap.
One suffers no grief by remembering God with loving devotion.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ ।
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜਪਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਅੰਧੇਰ ॥
gobind japat sabh mitay anDhayr.
The darkness of ignorance is dispelled by remembering God with adoration.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਫੇਰ ॥੧॥
har simrat kachh naahi fayr. ||1||
The cycle of birth and death ends by lovingly remembering God. ||1||
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
basant hamaarai raam rang.
O’ brother, the love for God is the season of spring (spiritual bloom) for me,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਬਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਰੁੱਤ ਹੈ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਹੈ),
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਸਿਉ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sant janaa si-o sadaa sang. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that is why I am always in the company of the saints. ||1||Pause||
ਏਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰਾ) ਸਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨੀ ਕੀਆ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥
sant janee kee-aa updays.
The saints have taught me,
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਹ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋ ਧੰਨਿ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
jah gobind bhagat so Dhan days.
that, blessed is the place where resides the devotee of God.
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦੇਸ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਨ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
har bhagtiheen udi-aan thaan.
and the place devoid of God’s devotional worship is really deserted.
ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਥਾਂ ਉਜਾੜ (ਬਰਾਬਰ) ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
gur parsaad ghat ghat pachhaan. ||2||
O’ mortal, through the Guru’s grace, recognize God in each and every heart. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ), ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
har keertan ras bhog rang.
Consider singing God’s praises is above the enjoyment of all the worldly pleasures:
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਜ-ਬਹਾਰ ਸਮਝ,
ਮਨ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਤ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
man paap karat too sadaa sang.
O’ my mind, always restrain yourself from committing sins.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਝਿਜਕਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਪੇਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ॥
nikat paykh parabh karanhaar.
Visualize God, the Creator, abiding near you,
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖ,
ਈਤ ਊਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਾਰ ॥੩॥
eet oot parabh kaaraj saar. ||3||
Who accomplishes all the tasks, both here and hereafter. ||3||
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸੰਵਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਗੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
charan kamal si-o lago Dhi-aan.
The mind of that person got attuned to the immaculate Name of God,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਗਈ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh keeno daan.
bestowing mercy, whom God blessed with the gift of Naam.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਤੇਰਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਛਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
tayri-aa sant janaa kee baachha-o Dhoor.
O’ God, I beg for the dust of the feet (the most humble service) of your saints,
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਦ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
jap naanak su-aamee sad hajoor. ||4||11||
O’ Nanak, lovingly remember God, considering Him with you at all the time ||4||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਜਪਦਾ ਰੁਹ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Basant, Fifth Guru:
ਸਚੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਵਾ ॥
sach parmaysar nit navaa.
The supreme God is eternal and He is always youthful.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਵਾਂ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਿਤ ਚਵਾ ॥
gur kirpaa tay nit chavaa.
By the Guru’s grace, I always recite His Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥
parabh rakhvaalay maa-ee baap.
God is my protector like mother and father,
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਸਦਾ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਰਾਖੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥੧॥
jaa kai simran nahee santaap. ||1||
by remembering whom with adoration, I am not afflicted by any suffering. ||1||
(ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਭਾਇ ॥
khasam Dhi-aa-ee ik man ik bhaa-ay.
I lovingly remember my Master-God with love and full concentration of mind.
(ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਇਕਾਗ੍ਰ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾ,
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur pooray kee sadaa sarnaa-ee saachai saahib rakhi-aa kanth laa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I always remain in the refuge of my perfect Guru and the eternal Master-God has kept me in His presence. ||1||Pause||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਪਣੇ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਖੇ ॥
apnay jan parabh aap rakhay.
God has Himself always protected His devotees.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਸਟ ਦੂਤ ਸਭਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਥਕੇ ॥
dusat doot sabh bharam thakay.
All the evil enemies of the devotees have grown weary of struggling with them.
(ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਭੈੜੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin gur saachay nahee jaa-ay.
The devotees do not depend on anyone other than the true Guru.
(ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਧਾਇ ॥੨॥
dukh days disantar rahay Dhaa-ay. ||2||
Those who run around at other places ultimately get tired of misery. ||2||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ (ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਓਨ੍ਹਾ ਕਾ ਮਿਟਸਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
kirat onHaa kaa mitas naahi.
The record of the past deeds of (evil persons) cannot be erased.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ (ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਵੈਰਿਆਂ) ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਿਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਓਇ ਅਪਣਾ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
o-ay apnaa beeji-aa aap khaahi.
They eat what they have planted (they bear the consequence of their deeds).
ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
jan kaa rakhvaalaa aap so-ay.
God Himself is the protector of His humble devotees.
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਕਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
jan ka-o pahuch na sakas ko-ay. ||3||
No one can equal the devotees of God. ||3||
ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ (ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦਾ) ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦਾਸ ਰਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਜਤਨੁ ਆਪਿ ॥ ਅਖੰਡ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ॥
parabh daas rakhay kar jatan aap.akhand pooran jaa ko partaap.
God, whose glory is endless and perfect, has always protected His devotees by making special efforts,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਤੁੱਟ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਚੇਚਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਪ ਰਾਖੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਗਾਇ ॥
gun gobind nit rasan gaa-ay.
God’s devoeee always sings His praises.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੪॥੧੨॥
naanak jeevai har charan Dhi-aa-ay. ||4||12||
Nanak remains spiritually alive by remembering God’s Name. ||4||12||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਭੀ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੨॥

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਸਰੇਵਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
gur charan sarayvat dukh ga-i-aa.
By following the Guru’s teachings, all the sufferings of that person vanished,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰੀ ਮਇਆ ॥
paarbarahm parabh karee ma-i-aa.
upon whom the supreme God bestowed mercy.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਸਰਬ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥
sarab manorath pooran kaam.
All his affairs are accomplished and his objectives are fulfilled.
ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
jap jeevai naanak raam naam. ||1||
Nanak remains spiritually alive by lovingly remembering God’s Name. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਾ ਰੁਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
saa rut suhaavee jit har chit aavai.
That season alone is delightful in which God manifests in one’s mind.
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹ ਰੁੱਤ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀਸੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਂਤੀ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin satgur deesai billaaNtee saakat fir fir aavai jaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The world seems to be wailing without following the true Guru’s teachings; the faithless cynic keeps going through the cycle of birth and death. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਲੁਕਾਈ) ਵਿਲਕਦੀ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਟੁੱਟਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
