ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨੇੜੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥
sad hee nayrhai door na jaanhu
God is always close to us; never feel that He is far.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਸਾਡੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝੋ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਜੀਕਿ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ॥
gur kai sabad najeek pachhaanhu.
Through the Guru’s teachings, recognize that He is near.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖੋ।
ਬਿਗਸੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
bigsai kamal kiran pargaasai pargat kar daykhaa-i-aa. ||15||
He, who realizes that God resides within him, will feel his heart bloom like the lotus; the ray of divine light illuminates it; the Guru reveals God’s presence to that person.||15||
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ) ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੀ) ਕਿਰਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਪਰਤੱਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਖਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aapay kartaa sachaa so-ee.
God, the Creator, alone is eternal.
ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
aapay maar jeevaalay avar na ko-ee.
He alone destroys and restores life; there is no one else who has that power.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਵਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਰਦਾ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪੈਦਾ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ)।ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਇਸ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੨੪॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee aap gavaa-ay sukh paa-i-aa. ||16||2||24||
O’ Nanak, it is through reciting God’s Name, that one receives glory in God’s presence; by renouncing one’s ego, one finds spiritual peace.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੨੪॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa aap savaaranhaaraa.
God Himself is capable of making his devotee’s life pleasing,
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਵਰ ਨ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਬੀਜੀ ਕਾਰਾ ॥
avar na soojhas beejee kaaraa.
other than God’s remembrance, he does not consider any other tasks spiritually gratifying.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
gurmukh sach vasai ghat antar sehjay sach samaa-ee hay. ||1||
One who comes to the Guru’s refuge, God manifests in his heart and that person remains in spiritual poise.||1||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਪਰ,
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
sabhnaa sach vasai man maahee.
The eternal God resides within every heart.
(ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥
gur parsaadee sahj samaahee.
but only by the Guru’s grace, some attain spiritual poise and become one with Him.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ) ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
gur gur karat sadaa sukh paa-i-aa gur charnee chit laa-ee hay. ||2||
By remembering the Guru, one finds eternal peace and remains humbly focussed on following the teachings of the Guru.||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੈ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
satgur hai gi-aan satgur hai poojaa.
The Guru gives us divine wisdom and teaches us how to worship God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਭਗਤੀ (ਸਿਖਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
satgur sayvee avar na doojaa.
I only follow the teachings of the true Guru and none other.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ (ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ)।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
satgur tay naam ratan Dhan paa-i-aa satgur kee sayvaa bhaa-ee hay. ||3||
I have received the valuable wealth of Naam from the true Guru; the Guru’s teachings are pleasing to me.||3||
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੋ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
bin satgur jo doojai laagay.
Those who forsake the true Guru and follow others,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
aavahi jaahi bharam mareh abhaagay.
Those unfortunate souls wander in doubt, spiritually deteriorate and continue to suffer in the cycle of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
naanak tin kee fir gat hovai je gurmukh raheh sarnaa-ee hay. ||4||
O’ Nanak, they can still achieve a high spiritual state if they seek and then remain in the Guru’s refuge.||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਫਿਰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੀ ॥
gurmukh pareet sadaa hai saachee.
The Guru’s disciple’s love for God is genuine and permanent.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪੱਕੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਗਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਜਾਚੀ ॥
satgur tay maaga-o naam ajaachee.
He begs the Guru for the invaluable gift of God’s Name.
(ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਉ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ-) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਅਮੋਲਕ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
hohu da-i-aal kirpaa kar har jee-o rakh layvhu gur sarnaa-ee hay. ||5||
O’ God! Be merciful and kind! Keep me in the shelter of the Guru. ||5||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ॥੫॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਚੁਆਇਆ ॥
amrit ras satguroo chu-aa-i-aa.
When the true Guru gives his devotee the life giving nectar of God’s name.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ਆਇਆ ॥
dasvai du-aar pargat ho-ay aa-i-aa.
then God manifests within that person’s spiritually awakened mind.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਹ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਵਜਹਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
tah anhad sabad vajeh Dhun banee sehjay sahj samaa-ee hay. ||6||
In that state, the person remains absorbed in meditation of God and feels as if beautiful divine music is playing in his mind. ||6||
ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਇਉਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਉਥੇ) ਪੰਜ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ਼ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਤੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jin ka-o kartai Dhur likh paa-ee.
Those in whose destiny the Creator has so written,
ਪਰ, (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹੋਂ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਈ ॥
an-din gur gur karat vihaa-ee.
recite the Guru’s Name, day and night.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਸੀਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
bin satgur ko seejhai naahee gur charnee chit laa-ee hay. ||7||
Without the Guru, no one succeeds in fulfilling their life’s purpose; therefore, remain humbly devoted to the Guru’s service.||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ ॥੭॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
jis bhaavai tis aapay day-ay.
God gives the gift of Naam to the one who pleases Him.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲੇਇ ॥
gurmukh naam padaarath lay-ay.
That person receives the gift of God’s Name by following the teachings of the Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
aapay kirpaa karay naam dayvai naanak naam samaa-ee hay. ||8||
O’ Nanak, whom God bestows His grace and gives the gift of Naam, remains absorbed in Naam.||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
gi-aan ratan man pargat bha-i-aa.
The person within whose mind, the gem like divine wisdom becomes manifest,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸੂਝ ਉੱਘੜ ਪਈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਲਇਆ ॥
naam padaarath sehjay la-i-aa.
that person intuitively finds the treasure of God’s Name.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ।
ਏਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
ayh vadi-aa-ee gur tay paa-ee satgur ka-o sadbal jaa-ee hay. ||9||
This greatness is obtained from the Guru; I always dedicate my life to the true Guru.||9||
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੯॥
ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਸੂਰੁ ਨਿਸਿ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥
pargati-aa soor nis miti-aa anDhi-aaraa.
When the sun rises, the darkness of the night departs,
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਦੋਂ) ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ) ਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਰਤਨਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
agi-aan miti-aa gur ratan apaaraa.
Similarly, spiritual ignorance is dispelled by the priceless gem like Guru’s wisdom.
(ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਗਿਆਨ-ਰਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਅਗਿਆਨ-ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
satgur gi-aan ratan at bhaaree karam milai sukh paa-ee hay. ||10||
The Guru’s divine wisdom is like an invaluable jewel; he, who is blessed with it through God’s Grace, finds spiritual peace.||10||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ (ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ‘ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨ’ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
gurmukh naam pargatee hai so-ay.
He, who realizes God’s Name through the Guru, his fame travels afar;
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਖਿੱਲਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਛਾ ਲੋਇ ॥
chahu jug nirmal hachhaa lo-ay.
and he is always considered to be pure and virtuous in this world.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੱਛਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
naamay naam ratay sukh paa-i-aa naam rahi-aa liv laa-ee hay. ||11||
Filled with love for God’s Name, he enjoys spiritual peace and remains totally focussed on Naam. ||11||
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ||
gurmukh naam paraapat hovai.
He, who realizes God’s Name through the teachings of the Guru,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ||
ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾਗੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
sehjay jaagai sehjay sovai.
remains at peace, while awake and while asleep.
ਉਹ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
