ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
gurmukh naam samaa-ay samaavai naanak naam Dhi-aa-ee hay. ||12||
O’ Nanak, through the Guru’s teachings, the person remains immersed and absorbed in remembering God’s Name||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ) ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਭਗਤਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
bhagtaa mukh amrit hai banee.
The life giving nectar of the Guru’s teachings is constantly on the tongue of the devotees.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
gurmukh har naam aakh vakhaanee.
The Guru’s follower utters God’s Name and recites it to others.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪ) ਉਚਾਰ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
har har karat sadaa man bigsai har charnee man laa-ee hay. ||13||
By reciting God’s Name, the mind of a person constantly blooms with joy and remains attached to God’s virtues.||13||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
ham moorakh agi-aan gi-aan kichh naahee.
O’ God! we mortals are foolish and ignorant; we have no understanding of righteous life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਾਂ, ਅੰਞਾਣ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਪੜੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
satgur tay samajh parhee man maahee.
One gains this understanding in his mind from the true Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਇਹ) ਸਮਝ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
hohu da-i-aal kirpaa kar har jee-o satgur kee sayvaa laa-ee hay. ||14||
O’ God, be merciful and grant us the gift of following the Guru’s teachings. ||14||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧੪॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
jin satgur jaataa tin ayk pachhaataa.
He who becomes close to the Guru, realizes the presence of God,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ (ਇਉਂ) ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ,
ਸਰਬੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
sarbay rav rahi-aa sukh-daata.
who gives us inner peace and is present in all.
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
aatam cheen param pad paa-i-aa sayvaa surat samaa-ee hay. ||15||
Such a person receives the supreme spiritual status by searching within and remains absorbed in the devotional worship of God.||15||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਦਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jin ka-o aad milee vadi-aa-ee.
Those who are destined by God to receive spiritual greatness,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
satgur man vasi-aa liv laa-ee.
they enshrine the true Guru in their mind and remain focused on his teachings.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥
aap mili-aa jagjeevan daataa naanak ank samaa-ee hay. ||16||1||
O’ Nanak, the life giving God becomes manifest within them and they remain absorbed in His Name. ||16||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸਮਾਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੬॥੧॥

Raag Maaroo, Fourth Guru
ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥
har agam agochar sadaa abhinaasee.
God is inaccessible, unfathomable, He is eternal and indestructible.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਬੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਟ ਵਾਸੀ ॥
sarbay rav rahi-aa ghat vaasee.
He resides in all living beings and is present everywhere.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
tis bin avar na ko-ee daataa har tiseh sarayvhu paraanee hay. ||1||
There is no other benefactor but Him; always remember Him, O mortal.||1||
ਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਉਸੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ ॥੧॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਾਕਸਿ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
jaa ka-o raakhai har raakhanhaaraa. taa ka-o ko-ay na saakas maaraa.
No one can destroy that person whom God, the Protector, defends.
ਬਚਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
so aisaa har sayvhu santahu jaa kee ootam banee hay. ||2||
O’ saints, sing the praises of God whose divine word is sublime and spiritually elevating.||2||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਾ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jaa jaapai kichh kithaa-oo naahee.
When it appears that a place is empty and void,
ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥
taa kartaa bharpoor samaahee.
then recognize that God, the Creator, is present everywhere.
ਤਦੋਂ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਮਝੋ ।
ਸੂਕੇ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
sookay tay fun hari-aa keeton har Dhi-aavahu choj vidaanee hay. ||3||
God spiritually rejuvenates the person who has been spiritually deteriorated; meditate on Him and reflect on his wondrous ways and actions. ||3||
ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸੁੱਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਹਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ, ਉਹ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਜੀਆ ਕੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jo jee-aa kee vaydan jaanai.
God who knows the inner anguish of all beings
ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ॥
tis saahib kai ha-o kurbaanai.
I dedicate myself to that Master-God.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜਨ ਕਰਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਜੋ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
tis aagai jan kar baynantee jo sarab sukhaa kaa daanee hay. ||4||
O’ brother, offer your prayer to the One who is the Giver of all comforts. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਜੋ ਜੀਐ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jo jee-ai kee saar na jaanai.
The person who cannot understand the pain experienced by a fellow being,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੀਐ ਅਜਾਣੈ ॥
tis si-o kichh na kahee-ai ajaanai.
do not discuss your problem with such an ignorant person.
ਉਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਦੀ) ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ।
ਮੂਰਖ ਸਿਉ ਨਹ ਲੂਝੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
moorakh si-o nah loojh paraanee har japee-ai pad nirbaanee hay. ||5||
O, morta, do not argue with a fool, we should remember God who can grant freedom from worldly desires. ||5||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਮੂਰਖ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਝੇੜਾ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਰਤੇ ॥
naa kar chint chintaa hai kartay.
O’ mortal, do not worry, the Creator takes care of His creation.
(ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ, ਇਹ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਸਭਤੈ ॥
har dayvai jal thal jantaa sabh-tai.
God provides sustenance to all creatures living on land or water.
ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਰਿਜ਼ਕ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਚਿੰਤ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਟ ਪਖਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
achint daan day-ay parabh mayraa vich paathar keet pakhaanee hay. ||6||
God gives his gift of sustenance without being asked, even to worms and insects living in stones. ||6||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹ ਉਹ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ-ਚੇਤਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੀੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਰਿਜ਼ਕ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈ ॥
naa kar aas meet sut bhaa-ee.
Do not expect any hope from your friends and relatives.
ਮਿੱਤਰ ਦੀ, ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ, ਭਰਾ ਦੀ-ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਆਸ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ।
ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਕਿਸੈ ਸਾਹ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
naa kar aas kisai saah bi-uhaar kee paraa-ee.
Nor expect help from any rich person or another’s business
ਕਿਸੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ, ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਦੀ-ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਆਸ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਰੰਗਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
bin har naavai ko baylee naahee har japee-ai saarangpaanee hay. ||7||
Besides God’s Name, there is no support; we should meditate on God.||7||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥
an-din naam japahu banvaaree.
O’ brother, remember God’s Name at all times,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੋ,
ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਥਾਰੀ ॥
sabh aasaa mansaa poorai thaaree.
who fulfills all your hopes and desires.
ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਫੁਰਨਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੁ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
jan naanak naam japahu bhav khandan sukh sehjay rain vihaanee hay. ||8||
O’ devotee Nanak, always remember the Name of God, the destroyer of worldly fear, so that your life may pass in peace.||8||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੋ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ-ਰਾਤ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jin har sayvi-aa tin sukh paa-i-aa.
The person who has lovingly worshiped God, has received inner peace,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
sehjay hee har naam samaa-i-aa.
he intuitively remains absorbed in God’s Name.
ਉਹ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ (ਤਪ ਆਦਿਕ) ਜਤਨ ਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਾਇ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
jo saran parai tis kee pat raakhai jaa-ay poochhahu vayd puraanee hay. ||9||
God preserves the honour of those who seek His refuge; go and consult the Vedas and Puranas, the Hindu holy scriptures.
ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ (ਦੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ) ਪਾਸੋਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛ ਲਵੋ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jis har sayvaa laa-ay so-ee jan laagai.
Only he, whom God blesses with His devotional worship, engages in doing so.
ਪਰ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
gur kai sabad bharam bha-o bhaagai.
Through the Guru’s word, that person’s doubt and fear are dispelled.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਜਿਉ ਕਮਲੁ ਰਹੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
vichay garih sadaa rahai udaasee ji-o kamal rahai vich paanee hay. ||10||
Just as the lotus remains unaffected by the water it exists in, such a person remains detached from the world, while living a householder’s life. ||10||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
